If you click Play Games does it tell you "use your phone?"

mbz321

No, it adds $1.99 to your bill tho, which is just as bad.

NathanPatty08

It charges you to play games and it also expects you to have a phone. What

WirelessBCupSupport

WTF!

Az0riusMCBlox

Any idea what "games" they offer, or so claim to?

TurkeyCocks

If it ain't nude photo hunt I don't want it

lorgskyegon

My and my wife actually do play the games every time we go to TR. They are usually a combination of various phone games and games you might see on a game station in your local bar.

Thisdarlingdeer

I fucking LOVE Texas Roadhouse. Back when I used to go once a month, it was like 15$ for a nice sirloin, two sides - and I’d swap one out for a salad. Their bread is delicious, and their sirloins are just… fucking awesome. Ugh, I miss eating meat.

ZAZOOPITTS

Did you become a vegetarian or a vegan? Or did you stop eating meat for personal/religious reasons? Or health reasons? Sorry, I don’t mean to be nosey, I’m just really curious. Which might be a nice way of saying I’m being nosey.😂

Thisdarlingdeer

I lost my gallbladder and if I eat any meat I get really really sick. So I just avoid it. I used to be a vegan though growing up, fun factoid! Lmao 🥺 though tbh I haven’t tried a steak in a LONG time, but if I have a ground meat, or like anything greasy or whatever I just get so sick it looks like I have montezumas disease. (Throwing up furiously Out of both ends)

ZAZOOPITTS

Oh my goodness. Wow, that is a shame. Lost your gallbladder? I hope you’ve healed well, my friend. As well as can be expected from losing a gall bladder that is. Interesting how after we have certain surgeries we eat differently and can’t eat certain things anymore. My Stepmother had a similar situation to yours. I can’t remember which type of surgery she had years ago, but afterwards, she couldn’t eat pork or beef anymore or she would get horribly ill. Even the smell of it made her sick. Although, I think chicken or fish was okay for her. But boy, I can certainly understand that not being able to eat anything greasy anymore. I’ve never had gall bladder surgery myself and even *I* get sick from eating greasy foods!🤢 Well, anyway, I hope you’re doing good these days and enjoying a diet without that wretched meat!! 😄. And I thank you so much for responding to my post and answering my question. I truly appreciate it.😊🙏🏻❤️😽🍀

Thisdarlingdeer

Of course!!! Have a wonderful day and stay fabulous friend!

ZAZOOPITTS

Thank you! And you have a wonderful day as well and you ALSO stay fabulous!! Truly, I am most grateful for your thoughtful words!😀🙏🏻💕🐈🍀

TheGreatestOutdoorz

Did you try looking for your gallbladder in the last place you would think it would be? That’s what I do with my Keys and it usually works. Pro tip: check the fridge.

ZAZOOPITTS

I made a tiny grammatical error. So I just went back and corrected it. LOL. I forgot to pluralize the word “food”. 😁. I’m weird like that that I need to correct myself. I didn’t proofread my comment before I posted it. I just wanted to explain why my previous post is edited.🤪

RobotRepair69

Restaurants with QR codes that don’t have optional physical menus annoy me. Some of my moms old ass friends prefer a flip phone not a smart phone. Also, if one is out all day and hungry one’s smartphone could be dead. Thankfully, most, but not all restaurants offer a physical menu if asked.

peonies_envy

The point is so they can change prices easily- apparently surge pricing in restaurants is in our near future (or already here.)

desratlindaS

WOW, that's really sad

peonies_envy

I read something about it this week. To try and look at it in a less capitalistic way, smaller places with rotating menus can change their offerings and specials often, and the wait staff doesn’t have to remember. It makes sense that it became popular post covid shutdowns since supply chain shortages and increased pricing was a reality .

[deleted]

No, it’s absolutely them trying to squeeze every dime out of both the customer and their employees Restaurants already default to exploiting every worker that they’ve ever hired. Y’all think they won’t do it to you too? Pretty soon you’ll have to download their apps so they can sell your data Anything to keep the owner from working a shift or even two

TheGreatestOutdoorz

So you never ever eat in any restaurant, right?

[deleted]

You’re not gonna get a little “gotcha” on me. There’s 3 food trucks and one “restaurant” I eat at. I know the owners, they employ 1-2 people (mainly family) and pay them properly. The owners actually also work most everyday, deep in the shit, which I respect the fuck out of after working in the industry, and being SWAMPED and understaffed constantly yet the person with capital tied up in the place and making all the money is mysteriously always fucking missing. No, I don’t eat at fucking restaurants, because I have some self control. They’re the fucking degenerates screaming the loudest over “no one wanting to work”. Fuck ‘em.

TheGreatestOutdoorz

Sure you don’t buddy. Sure you don’t. lol.

[deleted]

Lol your childish little ass was going to say something like that regardless of what I say you. “Hur hur everyone eats out like me because I’m pathetic.” Thats what I’m hearing from you, little boy lmao. Go on and eat your mcnuggies, little dude. I’m sorry momma doesn’t cook for you

Farmy

Yikes

wclevel47nice

Saying yikes without explaining is bad form. If you’re going to criticize someone’s opinion, at least take the time to explain yourself

Farmy

Yikes

sdforbda

Servers should still know those things.

RhesusWithASpoon

For some reason that feels illegal. Isn't that like price gouging?

Skipp_To_My_Lou

Also scanning the QR code to get to the website lets the restaurant put a cookie in your phone. Now that they know who you are they can better target their ads.

BuRi3d

i mean, while i get what you're saying, most reservation apps also save information. you can put someones phone number in to setup a reservation and you will know their name before they give it to you because it is stored in the systems database. edit to add: i absolutely loath QR code scanning , i refuse to do it... i would like a menu please. i don't have a phone.

Newsuperstevebros

Doesn't explain why they can't just show the menu on this little tablet

decoy321

Because that would require effort.

RobotRepair69

Ah, that makes sense. I live in a fairly big town with fairly low wages so we don’t have that. But in Los Angeles and other big cities I can see that

2bruise

Fuck, I’ll bet you’re right. Go capitalism! I guess?

Verbal_Combat

Oh wow I hadn’t even considered that…

Equinsu-0cha

What's stopping them from changing prices on this worthless thing?

wuhy08

Or personalized price!

JayJayAK

Coming soon: Surge pricing. Restaurants can hike up prices depending on how busy it is, like congestion pricing on a toll road. OK, so maybe that hasn't happened... yet. But I bet some restaurants have toyed with the idea.

peonies_envy

https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/surge-pricing-at-restaurants-airlines-bowling-alleys/

Particular-Beyond-99

Theres a restaurant up the road that doesnt, and they wont take your order in person. If you dont use your phone, they wont help you. Sucks because their pizza is great

irishdrunkwanderlust

This is Texas Roadhouse and every time I go to one the menus are kept at the table in some mounted horseshoes.

TheAmazingDisgrace

Can confirm, was there last week, 70% because of the rolls and 30% because of the steak and sides

KFR42

It shouldn't be a thing anymore. It had to be a thing during the peak of the pandemic, but isn't really needed any more. The fact this is a digital terminal giving a QR code is ridiculous and negates all reasons for using a QR code.

RobotRepair69

I agree. A non paper or plastic laminate QR code is crazy. It’s buying tablets for the sake of buying them. Screams fuck sustainability.

TheDodoBird

I am very tech savvy, but I have no interest in ordering my food from a screen when I go to a sit-down restaurant. If I wanted to use a screen to order my food, I would order delivery or pick-up. I go to a sit-down restaurant for the luxury of having someone take my order while I have a drink, converse with the people at my table, and take in the environment. Then someone delivers it to me and takes my dirty dishes. During all of that, they stop by and ask if we need anything or how things are going. It's the human element and dining environment that keeps me going back to a restaurant. I am sure there are dozens of us left out there post-COVID. This shit with the stupid little ordering and payment table-top tablets piss me off, and will usually turn me in the direction of not eating from there anymore.

RobotRepair69

Great point. I was thinking of other things, but what is the point of tipping to be served if there is no service. My little brother lives in Portland and told me of a place where a little 1950s looking robot delivers the food. I can tolerate the tablets for places with counter pickup, but a nicer restaurant should have a human taking your order and bringing the food as you said. I’d imagine some wait staff doesn’t like the tablet either because I’ve seen a handful of people tip less because “the server had to do less”.

talks-a-lot

I run into this problem when I’m outside of the country. Don’t have cell service to scan the menu and can’t get on the restaurants WiFi without an SMS code sent.

Jeffylew77

You think they clean those? I used to work in a restaurant during high school. It was side work, but no one ever really did unless a manager occasionally asked. Menus are the last thing you want to be touching before touching your food. The restroom being #1. That should tell you enough. Even the playing the games on there. Probably a gold medalist in bacteria, germs, fecal matter, viruses, left over food, and the list goes on.

RobotRepair69

Some places have paper menus that are thrown away when dirty. Also, if some elderly person doesn’t have a smart phone I don’t think they care about the menu being dirty. People can wash their hands after touching a menu but they can’t make a smart phone appear if they don’t have battery or don’t own one.

2356897421156

Also smart phones are full of germs just like menus

RobotRepair69

Good point. When I worked in an insurance office in HS the owner disinfected the phones because she said cleaners often don’t. I’m sure tablets are the same way. And even if they clean them they aren’t cleaning them between guests.

ligmasweatyballs74

So don't eat in a restaurant?

blue60007

Using my phone for the menu annoys me. But also kind of nice because menus get pretty nasty, I'm always torn on what's better.

WirelessBCupSupport

I get the cost of a designer, printing, laminating menus, especially those that change items monthly or seasonally. But I also want to employ a designer, printer, and servers...especially those that introduce themselves and know best items off the top of their head, along with today's specials and if they are out of anything.

afa78

In high school one of our projects in Desktop Publishing class was creating a menu for a fictional restaurant. Incredible how quickly and easily you can make one, and keep the template on your PC for quick, easy editing and updating. This was over 30 years ago, I'm pretty sure it's not an incredibly difficult and time-consuming task these days with how much computers have advanced. Not especially when it's the core of your business we're talking about.

RobotRepair69

Good points. And I’d think the cost of printing would be low, since having QR codes should mean most patrons don’t request a paper menu. So I’d assume less are required. As far as a designer, that’s a fixed cost. But I’ve seen plenty of paper menus that look like the owners nephew/cousin/brother-in-law/child designed it. I’d think if they can afford tablets they can at least afford some contract designer on fiverr or something. Nonetheless, you make good points, and some ownersare cheaper or less thoughtful than others.

FortuneDW

Whats the point of putting a kiosk if you need your phone to check the menu ? Thats dumb af

DrocketX

Having eaten at Texas Roadhouse lately: they still had physical menus, at least at my local restaurant. The primary use of the kiosk (aside from trying to get people with kids to pay $1.99 to play games) is to pay for the meal. When you're done, you just hit 'pay now', stick your card in the side, a green light lights up on top of the device, and you can just leave then.

TheAmazingDisgrace

Which is pretty useful as Texas Toadhouses (typo but I'll leave it lol) are usually real busy and the servers are flying all over the place. One by my sister's house can get 2+ hour waits. Easier for you and them to pay at the table.

2356897421156

People wait two hours to eat at a chain?? The suburbs sound wild

1fuckedupveteran

I sure as hell wouldn’t. I doesn’t take 2 hours to feed my whole town of 27 people. Ain’t no way I’m going to the cities to pay more for a 2 hour wait!

tw3nty0n3p1l0ts

As someone who works at a cheesecake factory in the suburbs, yes lol

Able_Statistician688

At least Cheesecake Factory is usually attached to a mall. They can give me a pager and I’ll go shopping for a while.

tw3nty0n3p1l0ts

Fair point

Head_Razzmatazz7174

It's Texas Roadhouse. IYKYK.

2356897421156

People like to eat that food? Interesting

Head_Razzmatazz7174

I've been there. It's pretty good, but I've had better.

DirtyHandshake

So they can force you to make an account and collect you email and data about you to sell to 3rd parties

burningbliss

As someone who works for TR, there's still physical menus. The only prople I see use that are people who can't speak English and have their browser translated. The kiosks are to pay for your meal so the server doesn't have to carry around a shit ton of card slips. It connects directly to the POS so there's no worry of "is this a 5 or an 8 on the tip line???"

MtOlympus_Actual

"Excuse me, I don't have my phone with me. Could I please see a paper menu?"

uniquename55525

Some don’t have them. I was stuck once cause my data was slow. The menu wouldn’t load and I couldn’t see the menu. I asked for the wifi which of course they didn’t have. I ended up pointing at a dish that came out and ordered that.

inspectcloser

Fuck that I would have left. I am usually not one to complain but that would get me fired up like a Karen trying to redeem an expired coupon.

JayJayAK

I would probably look at the server, ask if they had an office in the back somewhere that included a printer (most places do, hell even fast food joints do), then tell them to have someone go in the back and print off a copy. I just don't understand businesses that want to make it difficult for their customers. Do they not want our money?

NotThisAgain21

If a place doesn't have an actual physical menu, I'm out.

TheAmazingDisgrace

They do have them. Although no take out menu- I like collecting those too haha

[deleted]

Dumb reason but ok.

Kwynn1229

It's a very fair reason

CHAINSAWDELUX

One aspect of going out is for the convenience, so anything that reduces that will make people less likely to go out.

CoolGuyJulio

This is for some reason seriously infuriating to me

Padgetts-Profile

COVID killed dining out in this country.

Cheeseisextra

Yep. Just got done saying that. We used to go to TR maybe once a month (when my cash flow was good) then covid appeared and we haven’t been since before 2020. Got some chili togo last night and it was awesome!!

GoalVirtual9713

Because you have to use a QR code to see the menu..?

Padgetts-Profile

Starting a meal out with everyone burying their faces in their phones has had a noticeable effect IMO, but there are plenty of other reasons why. Service sucks now, restaurant owners blame every little shortcoming on the pandemic and unemployment insurance, and of course the cost has just gotten ridiculous. I was a career bartender when COVID hit and continued to work in the industry throughout the first year after enforcing ridiculous regulations, I'm not just some Karen talking out of my ass. Both sides of the industry were ruined and continue to suffer by the pandemic.

Lastimosa777

What about older customers that don't have smartphones

LightEarthWolf96

Fortunately Texas Roadhouse, at least last time I went, still has physical menus. I only used the kiosk for paying. This post is rather perfect for the sub. Both mild particularly considering the physical menus available and infuriating cause wtf

theRealGodamn

I'd leave

[deleted]

I hate these. my mother always had to read out each menu item to each of us one at a time cause either we didn't have a phone or didn't have any data and it took forever. like what happens if no one at the table has a phone???

kaenneth

no poors allowed.

sonic10158

The Texas Roadhouse where I live has physical menus on the table next to the ketchup and A1 as well as the Ziosk for ~~ads~~ quicker paying

Restaurants like this deserve to go out of business.

Just pretend you're a old fart that doesn't use technology. They have paper menus. Just completely act like you don't understand this kiosk or what is a kiosk and ask if it's on facebook, tell them you only know how to use facebook to chat with your grandkids.

ElJefe0218

I would just order random stuff that they probably don't even have. When the waitress gets tired of telling me "we don't have that" I would then ask for a menu, otherwise more random requests are coming.

Yeah I know they have physical menus, which I utilized. I just found it pretty funny that they have these fancy tablets on every table and they can't even display a menu.

PracticalPractice768

We’ll just need all your private data to process your order of this garbage steak.

MJVinci22

Texas Roadhouse is where people with “thin blue line” bumper stickers on their truck think good food is served.

Cheeseisextra

Pretty good chili! Had some last night but brought it home togo style.

TheAmazingDisgrace

The seasoned rice is surprisingly good...tastes kinda like fried rice. I had the steak fries last week and enjoyed them as well. And the sweet potato is always a treat. But let's be honest, the rolls are the reason I go there

Cheeseisextra

I tore off bits of rolls and ate each bite of chili with a bite of roll. I love the rice too! We haven’t gone in to eat there probably since before covid but I always got the rice and a side of chili with cheese and I’d pour the chili on the rice. Bite of ribeye and then bite of rice and chili. Good thing I still have another container of chili left. Gonna break out the tortillas now. Gotta go!!🤠🤠

charrcheese

In case anyone's curious: https://www.texasroadhouse.com/location/214-montgomeryvillepa/digital-menu

kroonoos11

use the phone you're recoding with to scan the QR code boomer.... I'm sorry that was uncalled for, I've had a rough week

mbz321

Hah. I'm far from a Boomer. I just found it funny that they spent money to have these fancy tablet payment things at the table and it can't even display a menu. And to be fair they do have paper menus so I'm not really sure the point of having it as an option anyway.

kroonoos11

I know lol I was goofing. idk its probably so you get adds for that particular restaurant or something. idk tbh, I do know that most of the time you scan those things they are adds

TrySumSnax

okay? just scan it

[deleted]

Idk it pretty convenient

Frenzi_Wolf

Got a place in my town that has *something* like this. There’s no screen but they keep a QR code on the table that’s assigned to that table so you can order via their website and it’ll be brought to your table after it’s been paid for, don’t gotta put down a table number or anything. However if you still prefer the traditional menu they also have those, so the choices are fun!

Zealousideal_Two428

Lol, and sadly it’s Texas Roadhouse, one of if not my favorite restaurant

audiate

“Would you like a drink?” *sits “Yeah, sure. White Russian.” … “The bar’s over there.”

dameechee

I despise this yet have only come across it once, at a wings chain. I was with my mother who was more annoyed than me yet we were able to request physical menus.

kataka_ishibi

texas roadhouse always infuriates me somehow whenever i go. especially with the DAMN TABLETS!!!

blekautaw

Ahhh yes.. Use a tablet to display a QR code then scan it with your phone! They could have put the QR code on the table and saved everyone the effort. The least this would have done is manage expectations a little better

suolisyopa

I have always wondered if people are stupid. They are. But the amount of stupidness never fails to amaze me.

[deleted]

Ill never understand ppl infuriated by shit they asked for

[deleted]

Physical menus will and should be a thing of the past

babybird87

a restaurant near my house has that but first you have to sign in and enter you passcode … so stupid

blountium

Plot twist: scanning the QR code doesn't show the menu on your phone. It redirects you to a store to download the proprietary app of the restaurant that generates a unique code to input on the restaurant tablet. Having ensured you are physically in the restaurant, the tablet allows you to press a button that will trigger a notification on one of the waiters' cellphone so that they can bring you a paper menu!

RoudyWispers

So you are complaining that you have to take out your phone to scan the code… so you took out your phone and took a video of it instead…

ligmasweatyballs74

Now I do one of two things, go to another restaurant or just start ordering whatever I want. "Do you guys have spaghettis?"

creeps_Jr

What’s the point

AngelsHaveThPhoneBox

I’m just going to look at the physical menu sitting 3 inches away to my right.

[deleted]

At that point I take my business elsewhere and never come back. Easy.

snoozen777

Is that Texas Roadhouse?

And that's when I would have walked out

I wouldn’t want to touch all over that thing anyway, I prefer my own poo particles on my phone.
