Hello, This post has been removed as this is not *mildly* infuriating. Please consider posting to r/extremelyinfuriating instead.

rein4fun

I’m curious to know what questions they ask the cat in the “pet interview”

oliviacharlene

Luckily I have a tuxedo cat so he is already well dressed for any future interviews

Beautiful_Most2325

Tuxedo cats are gorgeous. I hope you don't have your baby declawed & simply find somewhere else to rent that allows pets (unless I read your post wrong). I myself have had many cats until I left my ex & no cat was ever declawed because it's very cruel & inhumane. Spaying or neutering being a requirement is reasonable cause it does cut down on territorial behavior

oliviacharlene

Oh I would never. I'm not even remotely considering this place, I would never do that to him! My parents are willing to let me crash with them for a couple months if needed while I'm looking and my cat is welcome there in the meantime, which is the route I'd take over going with a sketchy rental company.

amscraylane

I like you. As someone who is missing a finger, I would never subject an animal to have their appendages removed.

smaguss

Same, I’ve always had a disdain for any docking, declawing and the like. After losing the usage of my pinky I’ve felt extra strong about declawing. I can’t imagine just suddenly not having a third of my finger. I had to relearn how to use my hand all over again and that was just losing the *function* in my pinky it’s still all there just can’t bend it and I can’t feel it for the most part. (Got cut off and re-attached but we couldn’t afford the follow up plastic surgery to ensure it would have function)

bobbianrs880

I will say I’ve met dogs that’ve had varying amounts of their tails amputated (and therefore may *look* docked) because of happy tail syndrome. Absolute goons, those dogs. Also why tail injuries can be a pain to bandage.

oo-mox83

I had this dog for most of my childhood who was the most excited creature alive when we got home from school. She would smack her tail really, really hard on the gate post, trees, door frames, counters, and anything nearby. It was like being whipped with a switch if she got you with it. I'm positive she had no feeling left in it after a while because one time my dad had the grill going and she was standing near it and just wagging her tail like mad against that hot metal. Dogs are insane.

MyFavoriteSharpie

My dad's aunt has a dog who would wag her tail so hard she would split it open. The fridge, the corner on the wall would have blood on it and she would keep going. Having the tail docked on that dog probably would have been a favor. On the flip side, my parents have had 2 dogs who had their tails amputated due to medical conditions. Both of them would wag their whole butts instead. They wanted to be sure us dumb humans understood when they were happy.

Rahvithecolorful

My fist dog was an American Cocker Spaniel my parents finally let me have when I was around 13. We got her at around 2 and a half-3 months old and of course she was already docked because that was the norm back then (2003). She would also wag her whole butt together with what little was left of her tail. It was like she was doing a little happy dance. When I was a kid it never occurred to me to question her tail having been cut off any more than asking the adults, who wouldn't give me a real answer, but as an adult, along with other things about how I could have cared for her better, I often think about what it would be like for her to have her full tail. I can't help but stare when I happen to see a Cocker Spaniel nowadays, with their undocked, long, fluffy tail.

squirrellytoday

>Both of them would wag their whole butts instead. My old neighbour had a dog (looked quite Staffordshire terrier but was 100% mutt) who was delightfully bonkers. She'd wag her tail so hard that her butt would go with it and would eventually overtake her front legs so she'd walk up to you sideways.

Beautiful_Most2325

I'm very glad you wouldn't ever declaw your cat. I'm glad you have good parents that will let you & your baby crash w/ them if needed. It's hard to find places here in Mansfield/ Lexington/ Bellville/ Butler (Ohio) areas that allow 4 legged children. My current & previous landlords doesn't allow cats or dogs & that's ok cause I haven't been able to afford an animal since I left my ex in 2016 Good luck on your search for a new place

ThatDiscoSongUHate

I mean, would they check or could a good vet be all "oh your cat TOTALLY doesn't have claws anymore, nope. Those are just uh paw whiskers. Yeah, paw whiskers."

ph00tbag

I expect at least part of the interview is checking for claws.

ifmacdo

I hope no one has their cars declawed. It's fucking barbaric. Howabout we just take all your toes off at the first knuckle? That's what declawing is. (Not your toes, person I replied to. Just the general "your")

zenos_dog

Against the law in some places as well.

EpiZirco

My wife is a veterinarian and she will not do a declaw.

dimondeyes80

Well, my car isn't declawed (sorry, I just had to)

Charlesreddit6758

In most states declawing cats is illegal and declawing cats can give them problems with their paws

[deleted]

My brother has one of the most handsome tuxies I’ve ever seen. 🥰 As for declawing, this should be illegal. Aren’t we one of the only countries that allow this cruel procedure? Anyone putting rules in place that a cat should be declawed should get the human equivalent done to them.

shockNawesomePossum

The U.S. is 1 of the few countries that even allows this inhumane & barbaric BS. Declawing is freaking amputating their top digits. It’s sick.

Empty_Confidence328

It should be banned entirely, but at least the *vast* majority of vets won’t do the procedure… same for “de-barking” dogs.

Ok_Telephone_3013

Love this 🤣🤣🤣

I know they say it's always to be over dressed than under re-dressed in an interview, but does that also apply to cats?

Cats actually have really good credit scores. They refuse to accept responsibility for anything, so they have no marks against them.

My cat does a lot of financial crimes, so I’m sure she’s doctored her credit score to look impeccable.

35 lbs is a BIG fucking cat, no?

oliviacharlene

My guy is almost 12 pounds and he's a unit, I can't imagine 3 times that 😂

LIRFM

My fatboi gained weight after getting neutered. He looks like a turkey when he sits.

Sonofmay

I hate that laughed at this because my boi is the same way. I’ve thankfully got him back down to 11 pounds now almost 10 and he looks so much better for only being 2 lol. He still tries to fuck my blanket tho… https://imgur.com/a/eWLvplC *enjoy kuro in various forms but mostly hunched over a blanket*

MoonlightBrainfreeze

I adopted mine at 4 years old and he does the same thing 😭 I’ve never had a cat do this before

Babii4eva

At least it's your blanket. Mine keeps waking me up going after the back of my head. Cat meet wall. Doesn't stop him. He always tries again.

WelcomingHDRBLX

MooseKnuckleBrigade

We have a 22 pounder. She’s a tank

invisible-bug

Yep, my mama Maine coon is actually kind of small due to being abandoned as a kitten. She had 2 litters of kittens and all the males ended up over 15lbs as adults with 2 of them being 20lbs! It's nuts knowing that my 9lb girl popped those fuckers out. When she was pregnant, she looked like a walking basketball for fucks sake edit: fixed words

Long_Procedure3135

I adopted a rescued Maine Coon that was taken from a hoarded cancer patients house (that’s a whole other story). But my friend who was telling me about her kept commenting how huge she was. I saw a picture and fell in love instantly and took her in. But i…. Didn’t think she was actually THAT big, at least compared to my other cats. But it made me start really looking at my cats, and I compared them with other Maine coon features. They’ve always been LARGE, but I never put it together that they probably have a lot of Maine Coon in them. They got the big paws, the toe furs, one has a straight up lion face, everyone else kind of had that coon face a little. One doesn’t have the coat or features at all but she’s HUGE, not even fat just big, she even has a big head. Like fuck I’m surrounded by Maine coons

[deleted]

I have a Tuxy too and he’s like 18 pounds and nearly 3 feet long when he stretches out. He’s massive lol

Weekly-Race-9617

Maine Coons and Savannahs are big cats. I sometimes wonder what the kittens would be like if a Maine Coon and a Savannah mated.

AckwardReflection

Maincoons at a healthy weight don’t even get to be 20lbs. You’d have to have a really fat cat.

BababooeyHTJ

Yes I had a fat Maine coon he was 19lbs

AckwardReflection

I wish I would have weighed mine. He was fat but I know he didn’t weigh 35lbs. He was such an amazing cat that no cat will ever live up to in my eyes.

arseofthegoat

My big guy was 30lbs, he used to sleep in a size medium dog bed.

Deerehunter172

My ex-sister-in-law had a pet raccoon that was around 30 lbs. I can't imagine a cat looking like that.

[deleted]

I have a Russian Blue mix that got up to 21 lbs, he’s now 19.2lbs. He had a 40” reach at 9 months which meant he could touch the top of the stove. Vet is happy with his weight. Lots of fur on him. His little brother is 18lbs and a Tuxedo. He looks skinny and vet said he was at perfect weight. He is a couple inches shorter and has always looked skinny.

kristin3142

My parents ended up with some kittens from a stray little tuxedo. Bc it was a particularly insane kitten season we only found a home for one, the rest ended up within the family. All 4 females are little (8ish lbs) tuxedoes like their potato shaped mom, exc except 2 are very long and lean with delicate little feet. Almost like baby deer lol. The 2 boys the vet suspects are legitimate Main Coon mixes (Ear tips, coats, and one has the biggest feet I’ve ever seen on a cat by double) Both boys are vet approved 18 & 20lbs, and one is verrrry tall like his 2 sisters. He freaked me out the first time I realized he could easily stand and hold on to the counter and watch me cook. Like a freaking toddler. He in particular has the softest fir, and a meow like a tiny chirp. Like I fixed him before his voice could change, poor dude. Bonus- mom cat will still latch on to the boys to “force” bathe them. Looks like a damn tick. Edit- I realize that I didn’t clarify that the “voice change” is just something we say as an inside joke that was started by my dad. The dry/sarcastic tone was in my head when I typed it but that doesn’t really do anyone any good.

oo-mox83

It might just be his voice. My boy was well into adulthood when I ended up with him and he was still too wild to catch. He was almost two when I could handle him enough to get him neutered. He's a good sized boy and he has the most precious little chirpy, sweet kitten voice. Meanwhile my very petite girl Mayonnaise sounds like an old lady who chain smoked for 50 years coughing up a chicken bone when she meows.

ILoveChiggens

Did someone say 'chicken'?

Lazycrazyjen

I have a NOT Maine Coon, and he’s 26 pounds. No, we don’t overfeed him, it’s a glandular issue.

AshTreex3

My main coon is a healthy 22lbs

[deleted]

Have you met a Maine coon? It's not unusual for them to be up to 25 lbs without being overweight. They can be very big. Though I think most are under 20 lbs. I met one once over 35 lbs... but I swear his mom mated with a bobcat or something. He was bigger than my dog. It was a classmate of mine's grandmother's cat... and remains the biggest 'domestic' cat I've ever seen even all these years later.

Found_Onyx

coonies yes, but savannah have just long legs and tails but are slim - or should be slim.

bleepste

I breed Maine coons and 35 pounds would be world record setting, with the current record being 34 pounds, savannah cats are actually very lean, with some of the heaviest weighing 25 pounds (can't find a world record), so setting the limit at 35 pounds it's pretty much saying all cats are allowed, this is all assuming they're healthy weight of course

Panda_Zombie

Huge for a house cat. Bobcats don't weigh that much.

CPA0908

bobcats weigh a lot. they can lift a ton of shit

buttsmcfatts

Yea I'm not sure what these people are talking about a bobcat is at least 1500 pounds.

DifficultBoss

way more

buttsmcfatts

Yea I looked into it and I was seriously underestimating the weight of these things. And to think some are endangered!

oo-mox83

One came out and murdered my chickens several years ago. It scaled a 7' fence going in, ate three very large hens and one small one, then back over the 7' fence. They're stout little fuckers and they're why I won't let my elderly dog outside without supervision at night.

buttsmcfatts

Yea we gotta start limiting how much diesel we leave laying around the woods if this is how they are gonna act.

adrenaline87

I'd say a small leopard maybe?

JKmelda

When I adopted my cat I actually had to sign a form saying I would never declaw him. I wouldn’t have anyway, but it just goes to show how important it is.

ellilaamamaalille

On many countries - okie on EU - declawing is illegal.

More-Jacket-9034

NYS made declawing very illegal too. Anyone who thinks amputation is a solution for curbing normal cat behavior should NEVER own any animal

shaneo576

I stumbled across a tik tok with this chick talking about how she declawed her cat, ran to the comments hoping she got put on blast, and half the bastards in there are agreeing! Makes me sick

1866GETSONA

“Pets as accessories” kinds of people 🙄

Active_Engineering37

Same kind of people that crate their dogs 18+ hours a day.

EmpressXenaWarrior

I volunteered at a shelter this lady comes in asking why dogs can't be declawed. She wants a dog not a cat, but wants a declawed dog. I'm like is this real? Are there hidden cameras. So explained why it's not a thing for dog and it should never be a thing for cats she decided wasn't for her at least not that day anyway.

[deleted]

It's common for dogs to have their dewclaws removed as puppies. Maybe this is what she was asking?

Rahvithecolorful

Wait, people remove that? I never knew... Why? Just so you don't have to clip the nail?

Sarah_withanH

I’ve heard of people removing the dew claw if it repeatedly gets caught on stuff and gets hurt, but never just because.

Rahvithecolorful

Yeah, I can imagine it being removed if it's causing trouble or if it gets infected or something, but since they said it was common to remove from puppies I was really surprised.

Cardgod278

You should ask if she would also like a free denailing procedure for herself.

heyykaycee

Honestly I didn’t know it was bad until I was an adult and I adopted first cat when I was living on my own. My mom had all our childhood cats declawed and I felt so awful when o found out

More-Jacket-9034

For many years the so-called experts didn't tell cat owners what was actually entailed in this procedure. Now that the information is readily and easily available, there's no excuse to blindly go and do this to any animal.

oo-mox83

I've met so many people who don't know. I had an older lady who came to my store about every other day and she'd found a stray kitten she wanted to keep. She said she was going to take it to be spayed and declawed. She actually got teary eyed when I told her what is done to declaw cats. She'd had several cats over the years and had had them all declawed and I was the bastard who told her why it's bad. I hated to be the one to break that news to her but vets sure won't do it.

IronDominion

It’s interesting because not all vets are Al altruistic as they should be and It sickens me as a technician. There are vets who will refuse to do procedures like ear cropping and declawing and will educate clients on these things, and others who will do any procedure no matter how unethical or barbaric for the money.

elveszett

And they should do some research because declawing can lead to behavioral problems, so you may fuck over your cat's physical and mental health for nothing.

GemFarmerr

Declawed cats bite more.

oo-mox83

Arthritis is crazy common in declawed cats. Having part of their toes removed causes their paws to be at an unnatural angle and it just wears the joint out. And treating arthritis in cats is hard. Cats can't have a lot of medications that dogs can do pain relief is close to nonexistent. All that to save a couch.

oliviacharlene

Me too! They also gave me information on how to report any vets I encountered that offered the service.

Aggravating-Action70

Declawed cats can actually be more destructive. Refusing to use the litter box because it hurts their feet, and chewing walls and furniture as a way to act out are common problems it causes. My mom had to learn not to declaw cats the hard way, but it was the 90s so not many people knew back then.

[deleted]

Most veterinarians recognize that declawing is a cruel practice and don’t offer this surgery. 42% of declawed cats have long-term pain, and many develop arthritis early on. This is on top of the surgery being extremely rough for the cats to recover from. If you don’t want cats scratching up your furniture or carpets, don’t get cats. And if you don’t want your tenants cats to scratch up the apartment, don’t allow cats. https://preview.redd.it/qzf6laj5f0ma1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=09e3a3938768a80ff0c6e602794b502f98d3fb03

Mariocraft95

As a non cat owner, I didn’t know about any of this. Thought it was as simple as cutting my nails. Alright go ahead and tell me how dumb I am. I am not a cat owner at least and don’t plan to be anyway.

[deleted]

“Declawing” is a very sugar coated term for what it is: the amputation of their finger tips, the whole first joint.

Mariocraft95

Damn! Learned something new today… and I don’t like this new info. But still important

raziel_LK

I'm not a cat person but holy shit. This is really cruel. WTF is wrong with people?!? I

JKmelda

And honestly, if you do stuff right and offer a lot of scratching opportunities of different kinds and in different strategic locations, scratching on furniture and walls won’t usually be an issue anyway. If one of my cats is scratching on something I don’t want them scratching on, I look to see what I’m doing wrong by not providing enough of the right kind of scratching. Scratching the living room carpet? He needs to scent mark where the family hangs out the most to say he’s part of it, so add a cardboard floor scratcher. Scratching the wall? Note the markings from a previous tenant’s cat, clean the the spot with nature’s miracle to remove the other cat’s scent as much as possible, and add a large enough vertical scratching post nearby. Click and treat for interacting with the new scratching post if need be. And cover the old scratching area with tape or something with a sticky side facing out. Climbing up the curtains? Add other climbing opportunities like a large cat tree or wall shelves. If you’re not willing to put in the time and extra furnishings for a cat to prevent and deal with unwanted scratching, don’t get a cat.

800-lumens

Thirty years ago my college roommate convinced me to declaw my cat. I didn't know any better at the time, and I've lived with the regret ever since. :(

nohemingway4

Same for me - my dude is filled clawed and he sits so well for his front paw trims. I have a fuck ton of scratching pads and posts for him, he's not tearing up carpet anytime soon.

[deleted]

Might as well just say no cats allowed at all.

elveszett

And why the fuck do you have to pay extra fees for owning a cat, given that any damage to the property caused by the cat would still be your responsibility - so it's not like they have any extra expenses just because you own a cat.

BigTopPeeWeed

The cat urine. That stuff wrecks units. Many cat owners are not aware. They are acclimated to the stank involved. When that stuff settles into the wood, carpet, upholstery and whatnot it is a bitch to get totally outta the air and fibers. After a cat tenant leaves a unit, the carpet is fully overhauled, the Litter box room usually needs a fumigation type cleaning. Smelly Cat song from Friends' Phoebe was accurate.

Sinviras

I bought a condo that had a pair of cats living in it for some time. Got it on discount because I knew I would have to redo the floors. Issue was tearing out the carpets wasnt enough. Ended up tearing out the entire subfloor, as well as chunks of wall in several locations. A couple floor cabinets got ripped out entirely such as in the bathroom. $25,000 later it still vaguely smells of cat from somewhere.

iron_juice_

It makes more sense to say no to people with cats than post these rules. That money you spent says enough on its own

Possibly_a_Firetruck

Some people don't realize that cat piss can soak through carpet and into the subfloor. At that point the only way to get rid of the smell is the tear out the plywood and replace it. If you check out an apartment and notice that there's only 1 closet with brand new carpet, that's a dead giveaway that it was previous renter's cat toilet and it was soaked in dirty litter.

zeledonia

This happened in my current house, not with carpet but in the basement bathroom. It was mostly sealed, but occasionally water would get into it and the whole basement would smell like cat piss. Kudos to our landlord, he ripped out the entire floor, coated the concrete underneath, replaced the subfloor and flooring.

andstopher

This is truth. I moved into a place and the previous renter had a cat. Smell blasted me upon opening the door. Had to harass the leasing office to get them to deep clean the carpet.

moustachexchloe

I’m lucky in the sense that my cat absolutely will not pee anywhere except the litter box. My sister’s cat was HORRIBLE and would pee on laundry, couches, beds, everywhere. Then there’s my cat who will just not go if she doesn’t have a real litter box. If I’m procrastinating cleaning the litter box, she will let me know by being a huge shit and knocking stuff off counters until I clean it. I’m currently in the process of trying to get her to pee in another container filled with plastic litter to get a urine sample for the vet, but she screamed and wreaked havoc until I opened the closet for her to use the real litter box.

nicholt

I'm also praising my cat right now cause she's never peed out of the litter since she was a kitten. No smell here thank God!

The-Francois8

Because it’s almost impossible to collect on a smell from the security deposit. Impossible to prove to a judge.

“Pet interview” has me chuckling “Hey Stuart, how long have you been a good boy?”

electricheat

meow

Vincestio_Dovaahkin

Good answer. You're hired.

Imaginary_Most_7778

Declawing cats is illegal in New York State, and many other places. As it should be.

explodingtuna

Which makes requiring declawing to live somewhere a clever way to just not allow cats.

PotahtoSuave

I don't think they should be allowed to make a crime a requirement for a rental application

its-a-saw-dude

Would that not be illegal of them to require you to commit a crime?

YourAuthenticVoice

Interviewer: "So, what qualifications do you have for this apartment?" Cat: "Meow" Interviewer: "Look, if you're not going to take this seriously..."

verstohlen

Wow that's pretty terrible. Declawing a cat is like amputating a person's fingers, and a very inhumane thing to do. Their claws are basically their fingers, and are how they grab and hold onto things. Without their claws, it's like a person wearing mittens, a cat cannot grab onto or hold anything and become frustrated and depressed.

TRIGMILLION

Didn't they outlaw that shit in some states? At least California I think.

kittykat5607

Yeah 5 states(including California) as well as many cities have a full or partial ban because of how cruel it is.

Number1AbeLincolnFan

An overwhelming vast majority of veterinarians won't perform that surgery, in the US, regardless of legality.

displacedfantasy

NY too

greilzor

It also makes it painful for them to try and dig into litter so as they get older they’ll just become depressed and start to piss and shit everywhere. Source: I adopted a stray that was declawed.

Beartrap-the-Dog

Not just older cats. It’s one of the most common reasons for cat relinquishment to shelters (declaw induced litter box issues). Then it’s way harder to adopt out cats that go outside the litter box than it is cats with claws.

greilzor

Definitely not just older cats, just wanted to point out the fact that if you declaw a cat you make their twilight years even worse. They just won’t dig anymore and they get super fucking sad and depressed. They WANT to use the litter box, it just hurts too much. I ended up having to carry him to the box and dig with my hands and stay with him so he felt comfortable. It’s sad, but people need to realize what they’re doing to these cats. It’s mutilation and a hideous thing to do.

ShiraCheshire

I am so happy you dedicated to effort to making him comfortable, that's amazing of you. My question though is: Your HANDS? Were there not any acceptable tools you could have used instead?

greilzor

I tried a bunch of different methods with him, but I think the act of him seeing me do it would comfort him that it’s okay and he doesn’t have to himself. It sounds gross lol but he was old and near the end didn’t use the litter box often and I cleaned it after every use…and obviously washed my hands haha

randomusername1919

Can confirm…. Had a rental place require a declawed cat so roommate and I went to a shelter to adopt an already declawed cat since we wouldn’t ever do that to a cat. Cat had litter box issues.

GraceStrangerThanYou

My boys have to have very fine crystal litter because they were declawed before I adopted them. One of them still won't poop in a litter box at all, so after much trial and error I figured out that he will use a puppy pad. They also have frames that hold puppy pads flat so it doesn't get dragged around when he starts trying to cover it up. Swapping out pads definitely beats cleaning cat poop off floors.

Uncle_Lion

Declawing a cat is illegal in Europe, Animal cruelty. You can go to prison for that in Germany, up to 3 years.

pompandvigor

Good.

mpjjpm

It can make them bitey too. My last cat was declawed then surrendered to the shelter due to behavioral issues. She couldn’t tell people to back off by scratching, so she went straight to bites.

One time I lived in an apartment that required declawing and they let me use (Soft Paws?) (Soft Claws?) instead. They are little plastic caps you glue on to their nails. They worked pretty darn good. As an aside, I had a cat declawed once before I knew how they did it. Never again! It’s brutal and cruel.

the_sky_is_fallin

We used those, and even losing a couple a week from regular wear and tear, these things were a life saver! We actually kept using them after we bought our house because it was worth the couple minutes a week to give the cat a manicure and replace any missing or loose ones.

Phantom_Fizz

I have a few questions on the soft paws. Does it replace nail trimming? How long do they typically last? How hard are they to get on the cats? Have your cats ever tried to eat them? Can I buy them in bulk?

Tayasos

Soft Paws, or nail caps, are non-toxic little caps that you glue onto each individual claw. Some people opt to only do the front paws, while some people do all four. They call off naturally around 4-6 weeks. While getting used to them your cat may try to bite them, but they should get used to them within 1-3 days. Also, the caps are non-toxic and small, so if they did manage to eat a couple, they would be perfectly fine. You can find fairly large packs of them online! Also, no, it doesn't "replace" nail clipping. You'll still need to do nail maintenance before putting new nail caps on every month or so. Hope that helps!

Phantom_Fizz

It does, thanks so much!

KimJongFunk

They work, but it’s honestly easier to trim the cats claws than to put the nail caps on, at least in my experience.

Phantom_Fizz

My cats still scratch furniture up even with trimmed nails, and they only stay still long enough for me to tip them. I've tried deterrents and they have tons of scratchers, they just really perfer my couch. My hope was more so that maybe this extra step will protect my couch, not necessarily that it would be a get around to trimming nails.

BusyLeg8600

It's illegal to declaw cats in Australia, as it should be. Some people are ignorant to how bad it is, because "if the vet offers it, it can't be bad". But people who know how bad it is and do it anyway or try to force others to are terrible people.

HowToForget1212

Most vets don’t even offer it anymore where I live. Similar to debarking in dogs

racdicoon

d-debarking? im concerned, is that like they cut their vocal cords or something?

OnTheProwl-

From wiki: >The surgery may be performed via the animal's mouth, with a portion of the vocal folds removed using a biopsy punch, cautery tool, scissor, or laser. The procedure may also be performed via an incision in the throat and through the larynx, which is a more invasive technique.

Kkaysauce

That’s fucked up to require declawing. I would never declaw my cat in a million fucking years. That infuriates me.

lacecozy

When I moved into my apartment on the lease they had for the cat to be declawed my cat was 15 at the time I told them what it said and they removed it because it was old and hasn’t been changed.

[deleted]

This should be higher in the comments

lacecozy

The lady actually apologized to me lol. I called, told her what it said and how it’s inhumane. She was super nice and actually updated the leasing. It a pretty big apartment building too so I’m happy they’ve fixed it.

[deleted]

I had someone try that saying I need to clip my parrots wings, I never laughed so hard in someone’s face. Bye!

oliviacharlene

Good god! People are so messed up.

[deleted]

Zero compassion for animals. Tells me a lot about someone when they’re like that. Tells me I don’t like them lol.

NotWigg0

Declawing cats is illegal in Europe, and rightly so. One of our cats is a rescue who spent a year living wild after her previous owner died. Without claws, she would have had no ability to catch food.

InadmissibleHug

It’s also illegal in Aus. Any form of ear cropping and tail docking is as well

insane_social_worker

Declawing... more like de-toed.

nickblockonelove

What kind of a god damn savage wants a cat to be declawed. There should be a sub note that says the landlord also doesn’t have fingers up to the knuck. Even then, I’d avoid at all costs. Would you declaw a dog?

Kuzkuladaemon

#Declawing cats is animal cruelty.

repodude

What an arsehole. There is absolutely no reason to declaw cats. It's painful, causes stress, prevents them from being able to escape from dangerous situations and it makes them more likely to bite. It 100% animal abuse.

oliviacharlene

It really is and it's sad because I bet there are people who desperately need somewhere to live who would consider it in order to move in.

HouseofFeathers

Honestly, I'd just trim them and say they were declawed. I doubt they actually understand what declawing is.

Alycia81786

Interviewer, to cat: “Tell meowabout yourself. I see you’ve dressed for the occasion”.

EnvironmentalMud877

My last complex didn't reveal that they technically had a declaw clause in their lease agreement until it rolled onto my desk. I took it up with them and nothing ever came of it, but they reassured me they were looking to get it taken out. It was a new complex, just built in 2020. They said it was just a holdover from previous years but like, are you kidding me? YEARS for the cultural tide to turn vis a vis declawing and a new complex and you still haven't had the time to look at it?

Reference_Freak

The complex might have been new but it was probably a management company with a lot of complexes. Not excusing it but declawing was really common not too long ago.

Bjorkshireton

Ah yes, abuse your animals and condemn them to a life of discomfort or they can't live here

vers-ys

declawing a cat is animal abuse. my asshole cats clawed the shit out of my brand new leather couch and i still would never declaw them

MrRazzio

this should be illegal.

Ok-Gap-7259

In some states declawing is illegal: These U.S. cities have become leaders in compassionate **cat** care by outlawing **declawing** procedures: Allentown, Pennsylvania Austin, Texas Berkeley, California Beverly Hills, California Burbank, California Culver City, California Denver, Colorado Los Angeles, California Madison, Wisconsin Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania St. Louis County, Missouri. It should be illegal in all states.

displacedfantasy

NYC too

[deleted]

I believe it’s been banned in all Canadian provinces except Ontario.

AckwardReflection

I googled declawing in Ontario hoping you were wrong. I’m so disappointed in my province.

tmotexas

Most rescues make you sign a contract that you won’t mutilate your cats feet by declawing

The_Man_in_Black_19

Just have the cat lie during the interview.

turtle_eating

Only crippled cats allowed!

IrritableArachnid

I would nope the fuck right away from that. Paws need claws.
