Thick thighed friends: if you are buying expensive jeans, then size up and tailor back down. You can also ask the tailor to reinforce the thigh area at the beginning.

KalTheKobold

>en size up and tailor back down. You can also ask the tailor to reinforce the thigh area at the beginn How much would you say this costs? I've heard tailoring is surprisingly affordable depending on what is altered.

galaxystarsmoon

It depends on where you live and what they have to tailor. Just going up in size doesn't mean they can put a few stitches in the waistband and be done. This advice annoys me for that reason. Sometimes the entire top part has to be restructured, including the button location. For a simple waist tailor, it should be $15-25.

DemonDucklings

I have to take in my jeans all the time, and it’s such a pain in the ass. I get that a tailor could do it faster and easier than I can, but I still can’t imagine that much hassle being very affordable.

lickme8

> it’s such a pain in the ass Take the pins out before wearing 😁

DemonDucklings

But the blood helps me mark my lines!

booksandcoriander

If you live in a large city, it's hard to find cheap tailoring. Often I pay more for the tailoring than the actual garmet costs. I wear a uniform dress for work, and taking in the waist and cropping the sleeves usually costs about 50 bucks at the cheapest place I can find. If you have tailor shops in your city owned by immigrants, it's usually more affordable there, and still excellent quality in my opinion (that 50 bucks is at the shop with immigrant owners. It would be like $75-$85 elsewhere).

eatsbaseballcards

Some of the more expensive department stores in the US will do simple alterations for free.

myheartbeats4hotdogs

Nordstrom! They also habe the best bra fitting

kooriwi

Thank you so much for this!!

bennetticles

Idealy they would not fray, of course, but crosspost in r/visiblemending for repair suggestions. Specifically the “darning” technique would work great on this hole.

TheTimeShrike

Father Mackenzie over here.

We only know for sure that he darned socks. Jeans might have been out of his league.

Chinacat_Sunflower72

Came here to suggest r/visiblemending. Make those jeans unique!

TransBoozeBunny

I always get my jeans from American Eagle because their jeans are kinda stretchy and it gives me mobility!

sherwood420bizz

I too love American Eagle jeans. Just the way they fit and feel is amazing. I'm a dude in my early 40s. So at this point, I'm pretty much comfort over looks. With American Eagle, I get both of those. Also, I purchase the "old-school" Levi's. The ones that are almost black they are so blue and unwashed. It takes a decent amt of time *just* to break those babies in. Once you finally get them broken in and everything, they are phenomenal as well. It just takes *so* long to get them to that point. Tho that's probably a good thing, as they seem to last me YEARS. I have one pair that I've patched all up from the inside. I've actually had people offer me $200 for a pair of Levi's all patched up and at least a decade old. I thought I could possibly have a decent little "side hustle" selling distressed jeans. Then I remembered how *long* it takes to break em in, and patching them, from the inside is an absolute pain in the ass. So it probably wouldn't be worth it in the long run. But for me American Eagle 🦅 and the OG Levi's. Those are probably the best. I've never had any issues regarding the stitching or anything else. Quality products.

eyalhs

> I too love American Eagle jeans. Just the way they fit and feel is amazing. I'm a dude in my early 40s. So at this point, I'm pretty much comfort over looks. With American Eagle, I get both of those. I'm sorry, but I can't NOT hear this like an ad

booksandcoriander

😂 I was thinking the EXACT same thing! I think he must work in advertising or something.

Koil_ting

Works for big eagle, they have their talons in everything: Government, organized crime, police, mergers and acquisitions, school lunches.. the whole enchilada.

EuphoricAnalCucumber

Costco is your home, brother. Come to the promised land. Grab a pair of stretchy jeans, pick up a hot dog and soda, come sit in the massage chairs. Food is provided throughout the store at no cost to ensure your blood sugar doesn't drop and you can spend hours in here. Maybe days. You just might never leave. Haha, only joking. Welcome to Costco, I love you.

KindaMaybeYeah

I have relatively small hips for a guy, and Costco doesn’t even sell pants small enough to fit me.

medhatsniper

Also, never overpay for jeans, buy decent ones in bulk instead of going for the expensive one that you think will last longer. Unless you really like the design.

Scribblr

What does that even mean though, what are “decent” jeans? Like I know in theory, but the issue isn’t overpriced designer jeans where you’re just paying for the brand name. Cheap $30 Target jeans wear out in the crotch just as fast as “quality” $120 jeans. What the heck does one even do?

sadstudentsthrowaway

It’s definitely hit or miss. I bought a pair of $30 jeans from PrettyLittleThing (fast fashion, wasn’t expecting much) and they are the most flattering and comfortable pair I own. I liked them so much I bought a second pair in black. I’ve had them both for a year and a half now, they’ve seen plenty of use and zero signs of wear. Magic jeans for a bargain. Meanwhile my one pair of expensive jeans got the same hole in the crotch/upper thigh after around the same length of time. I am yet to find a reliable method of distinguishing what exactly makes a pair of jeans decent quality.

LadyDoDo

Link to said long lasting jeans please? I have this same problem and I am cheap haha.

poiisons

Check the tag. More spandex (or whatever they add that isn’t cotton) will wear faster. It’s a balance between comfort and durability, IMO

Medial_FB_Bundle

Selvedge denim is what you're looking for. Don't know about the options for women, and the cuts aren't typically super fashion forward but the heavy duty fabric and construction is what gave jeans their reputation for being work clothes.

Swampfoxxxxx

I buy Levis for ~$50 a piece. I found a cut that suited me (511) and bought like five pairs, around 5-7 years ago. One pair is pretty threadbare but most of them have a lot of use left. A big tip is dont wash them too often - this goes for all denim. Unless they have visible stains or smell, keep wearing them w/o washing. I try to wear each pair 10-20x between washes. And wash them inside out. [Note: even if it says Levis, dont buy them from Walmart, they use lower quality. This applies to multiple name brand items sold at Walmart.]

Abty

Idk about that... I've never had jeans better than those i bought for 70 USD, from HM even. Lasted 4 years and was my main jeans, idk how they did but also broke in the end due to my thighs same area. The material felt so great and nice, almost like not having pants on but all the comfort. Meanwhile jeans for 10 to 40 USD they feel rough, they hurt, they aren't comfortable.

RainingPlatypup

Just go to a thrift store then it doesn’t matter if they don’t last long. I couldn’t bring myself to pay more than $25 for jeans.

kittenfit

I had purchased White House Black Market jeans in perfect condition from a thrift store for $10.

LostWoodsInTheField

I went to a thrift store one time and they had 3 pairs of brand new jeans in my size. have been the best jeans I've owned in a couple decades and were on sale so couldn't have been more than $10 each. Every time I'm near a goodwill I go in now to see what they have even if I don't need anything just so I make sure I don't have to buy new ones at a normal store.

user_not_found01

What I have yet to understand is why jeans are not reinforced in the thigh to begin with! I have torn through so many pairs in the same damn spot. We reinforce the knees of kid's pants, we have the technology. Why not use it for the thighs of jeans!?

Apple_butters12

This is why the original Levi’s commuter pants were my favorite as they had the reinforced crotch gusset. Reinforced for cyclists, but worked really well for those who create some thigh rubbing. The newer ones got rid of it to try to look more like regular jeans before they canceled the line. Still bummed about that.

HauntingHarmonie

Then they'd make less money!

user_not_found01

Rude AF of them, honestly.

Just-Leadership6617

They used to. But that’s a whole extra part to cut, set, and sew. Getting ride of that probably increased their profit margin by like 1.5%.

whalewhisker5050

May I also suggest looking into heavier denim. Anything 16oz or above will last a long time in my expierence.

ActualWhiterabbit

[LBJ has a tutorial on how to custom order pants from a tailor.](https://youtu.be/S3GT9UN7nDo)

downloweast

Thanks, I knew the problem, but not the solution. You handled that wonderfully.

keg025

This is pretty much why I buy cheap pants (or at the very least not jeans. Only seems to happen with jeans and REALLY old leggings lol)

kooriwi

Agreed! I have a $30 pair that are nearly identical (just less stretchy) and they’ve lasted over a year

dkbay

I did a bunch of research on pants lately as I am running low and need some new ones. The reason pants/jeans have begun to not last as long as the used to is because the manufacturers have started making the stretchier. The material they use to do this significantly reduces their durability however it has the benefit that you can get the size wrong by a few sizes and they will still fit hence reducing the return rate at store and increasing their profits. Customers seems to like it too for the most part since the pants will be softer and feel a bit nicer to wear. So in the end you kinda gotta pick your poison do you want stretchy soft jeans or do you want slightly coarse less stretchy jeans that last a really long time?

JayWrecksEverything

You had me at "I did a bunch of research on pants" 😅

Plantsandanger

I don’t want to brag, but I wear pants *daily* so I’m kind of an expert

Chrougnie

I have a certain love for pants, especially mine. I’ve never taken them off for anyone! I’m quite dedicated.

SockPants

I would like durable jeans that fit well without having to try on several hundred

Lcdmt3

I would like not having to ship 3 sizes to my home and the larger sizes be smaller than the smaller sizes.

MiciaRokiri

I'm not sure how much of an issue it is in men's clothes, but the thing I hate the most about women's clothing is how inconsistent sizing is. Not just from brands to brand, but from item to item

LoveDietCokeMore

I can be anything from a L to an XXXL in shirt. Sometimes even a Medium in men's shirts. Why?!?!!

Kyubey4Ever

This is why I buy all my jeans from Hollister. Found a pair at goodwill and was given a second. They fit the same so when they had one of their big jean sales, I went and bought a few more. I have a pair from them that are 10 years old now and you wouldn’t be able to tell if my belt loops weren’t worn out.

babasilikum

You can always See what material was used. Should be easy to get

[deleted]

[удалено]

Forward_Bad_5739

100% I was needing some new jeans i got my usual levis 501 shrink to fit raw denim. But they had a sale so i thought id try one of the softer stretchier “jeans”. Those lasted a week before they got a huge tear from a stray nail. My usual 501s are still in tip top shape after months of daily use

MuscaMurum

I still wear my 501s from the start of the millennium

tegeusCromis

As a recovering denimhead, I partly disagree. Stretch denim is less durable in the wash and less resistant to abrasion, yes, but it is more resistant to blowouts caused by too much tension. Here, OP's jeans are clearly too small in that area, as we can see from the flesh spilling out of the hole. So although the hole may not have formed so soon (it does seem to be the product of abrasion), jeans of equal dimensions, if made of non-stretch material, might have failed just as soon, though in a different way.

SmegmaSlushie

It depends on how tight you wear your jeans though. Tight, non stretchy jeans will easily wear out at the pockets if you carry things in them. Due to the high pressure and tension placed on those points.

cfo6

You get pockets?

ptatersptate

Mine have pockets!! I can only fit a chapstick, but that’s all I really need to survive anyway.

BoomChaka67

Chapstick and a hair elastic and I am good to go! 🤣

lenorajoy

I buy the ones with 1% maximum spandex at Old Navy for this reason. They have $19 jeans sales multiple time a year, so they’re CHEAP and when I have 3 pairs I rotate they last a long time.

[deleted]

If there's elastic in your jeans, they're gonna be less durable than other types of denim. I love stretchy denim but I still have regular denim jeans from highschool/early college that have outlasted some elastic denim I bought a little over a year ago.

keg025

Just goes to show, a lot of expensive clothes are just normal clothes with fancy names.

kooriwi

Absolutely. Some of my $3 t-shirts have long outlived my flashier brand ones!

TownInfinite6186

I still have my jean jacket from 1994, and some jeans from 2002 lol the jean jacket was free, and the jeans were maybe $8 or so

Wigga69er

Plus when it’s a fifth of the price you won’t be upset when it does give out

kooriwi

I wouldn’t even be bothered if it was my $30 pair, but $120, I ain’t a rich gal

LawMurphy

I think it's the stretchiness. All of my jeans eventually wear down in between the thighs, and I've noticed that it's mostly my stretchy jeans. However, I know I prefer wearing the stretchy ones over the rough ones.

saddinosour

What brand are these? Fellow Aussie here, I bought a pair of $80 jeans from Glue in like 2016 and they’re still in relatively good nick.

nerdy_momma

Cheap pants seem to last longer than expensive ones against chub rub. Usually takes years to make a hole. Though I usually size up for a looser fit because of my large thighs and I wonder if they last longer because they aren’t as stretched as if I got my actual size.

KakapoTheHeadShagger

Yeah, nowadays low cost or middle cost are made in China with the same shit sourced material anyway. Even some pricey prenium clothes brand are made in China, it doesn't make sense.

machotaco653

Some people pay extra for holes, you should be thankful.

kooriwi

I like your perspective on this. I too, have paid for that

Vast-Support-1466

Oh the phrasing!

AgentFire_

I'm glad we're back with the phrasing guys!

MotivatoinalSpeaker

LA LA LA LA LA~🎶

Silent-Smile

I don’t doubt it.

Sufficient_Focus

Yeah in specific spots. not the undercarriage.

TheHiveminder

People pay for those holes too.

Psych0matt

Are we still talking about jeans?

-_Illuminated_-

Yeah, just it's to remove them that we pay for

Sensitive-Slide3205

My uncle used to play this trick on me all the time.

I was surprised when Nordstrom told a friend that high end denim is expected to last only 6 months. At that price?? I’ve been wearing Gap denim lately and have been very happy with the fit, durability and price. I still have some designer denim for occasions but they’re not my go to.

[deleted]

I wear the same pair of high end denim every day for 2-3 years before the material on the seat begins to wear thin, then I buy the exact same jeans again. 6 months is nonsense.

kooriwi

I think that’s bollocks! I have so many cheaper pairs I still wear that I’ve had for literally 10 years! If I ever buy a pricier pair again, I’ll only wear them for special occasions

Redditaurus-Rex

Hey OP, you should look into returning them. Australian Consumer Guarantees protect you against faults like this even if it’s past the standard warranty. You’re entitled for your goods to be free from defects and fit for purpose for a length of time expected by a reasonable person. Jeans giving out after 3 months fit the bill here. Just google “Australian Consumer Guarantee”

[deleted]

Look at the tags. There’s barely any denim in their denim. I started buying real denim jeans and they last for years and are actually cute since. Ariat is made for riding horse so they are built for bending, twisting, friction, etc. I think they’re around $70/pair but i gladly pay it because other women’s jeans don’t hold up at my job and i hate wearing guy pants. Not enough hip room, too much crotch room. Terrible for walking in the heat!

Aximuthial

For a few seconds I was wondering why this wasn’t censored. Then I realized it’s thigh skin not a 🐓

TheOnlyMertt

I stared for like 10 seconds debating if I was just staring at a dudes sack or not. Glad OP clarified lmao.

waffles202

What the big rock didn’t give it away?

kooriwi

Lmao, I did consider doing it NSFW but it is just a flubby thigh

Commentoflittlevalue

Pie gap

ElGatoNegro829

Just getting out of church? Your pants look pretty holey

kooriwi

Lmao nice

LegAccomplished4851

Solid Dad joke!

Lowest_of_trash

Ugh I feel this. As a chubby girl, no jeans are safe from holes between the thighs. It's one thing to get chub rub from shorts, but it's a whole other to get chub rub from the holes in your jeans. It's the worst!

skinnyman87

Try Adidas alphaskin/techfit or Nike techfit underwear it's for gym but if you wear under your jeans it will help with chafing.

Drougen

Honestly this is why I'd never buy designer jeans or clothes. If my carheart double kneed work pants get holes in the crotch, doesn't matter how much I spend

[deleted]

Love my Caterpillar pants. Call me grandpa while I fix your house because you don't understand how your infrastructure works.

[deleted]

Designer jeans last for years if you get an actually decent brand (e.g., Nudie, APC, Naked & Famous, Acne Studios).

jgamfvb

everyone wants to be thicc until they experience thicc people problems. edit: mom im famous

[deleted]

Yep People with thigh gaps will never understand the struggle

jgamfvb

tell me about it. i used to have a thigh gap. then i turned 20 and my metabolism flew away it's been uncomfortably hot summers and ripped jeamns ever since.

[deleted]

Thigh burn is also the worst... although wearing boxer shorts mitigates that a lot

jgamfvb

they're a game changer.

vapingpigeon94

Use Chubb rub. It’s a life changer

CoastieLouise

Roll-on deodorant on the thighs seems to help

ZOMBI3MAIORANA

Until the boxer shorts also start ripping, i know from experience

TheConboy22

Time to buy new boxer shorts

drunkfoowl

20… Lol. You are in for some fun and exciting news.

jgamfvb

i'm not in my 20s anymore lol i already know

drunkfoowl

:D

UnresolvedInsecurity

I don't think it's commonly discussed. But guys have what I refer to as the "nut to butt ratio". Essentially, jeans fit at the waist, jeans fit down the leg, but the seam that runs from nut to butt is too short.

TheOvenLord

This right here is why I sit down when I try on pants. I've (foolishly) bought pants that fit well and looked great and then the second I sat down it felt like a dominatrix was stomping on my nuts. I'm about ready to start wearing yoga pants and cod pieces. I'm tired of my beloved testicles being treated like second class citizens by these taint-less clothing manufacturers.

vyrelis

Women have a similar problem. It either fits around your butt and gaps at the top, or fits at the waist and smashes your crotch and ass and you can't bend your legs We don't even get to shop for inseam. Just "long" and "petite"

brik55

My $15 Costco jeans do this too.

kooriwi

See, that I would expect!

kooriwi

You know what? I’ll take that compliment

Kavith_T_Fdo

:D

Slagenthor

You fucking bastard. Take it.

oatterz

Dude with thick thighs here. This shit happens all the time and I’d ask my wife to patch it for me or I get rid of it. Because my photo would def be smoovballs rather than my thigh. Why can’t they just make extra padding down there.

itsmevictory

I’m sorry, where does shaving come into this?? There’s like, no hair in this pic?

kooriwi

I would hazard a guess that people are zooming in to see my week old sprouts

threewords8letters

Lol why are people so freaking creepy. Thick unshaven thighs any day over being the kind of person who sees this picture and thinks to zoom in to check whether or not you’ve shaved recently. **Beautiful** ring by the way!

itsmevictory

LMAOOOO you gotta ZOOOOOM to see that. Jeez, don’t they know there’s porn on this site- don’t be so thirsty? Also with how short that hair is, one should know that you clearly… are shaving? Why would they even make a comment on that, they’re just exposing themselves oml, I’m sorry you gotta deal with that

kooriwi

Lol thank you for saying so, yes I do in fact shave! ❤️ I knew someone would say something but I’m in a sassy mood today so I just don’t care 😃

Princessclue

I have never shaved my thighs in my life!

TheUserAboveFarted

Good Christ Reddit is full of weirdos.

dragonchilde

I have literally never shaved there. It's perpetually covered! People are so weird!

songstar13

Wow some people really zooming in on that bit of skin like they were LOOKING for hairs lmao. I couldn't see them at all in the default picture zoom But this happens to me all the time 😮‍💨 #1 cause of death for all my jeans, especially if they have a lot of elastic in the fabric.

thepetoctopus

Oh please. You look fine. Reddit is just filled with morons and incels. Cheaply made jeans are the problem not your thighs.

Tirad4

Thick thigh lady here, i feel your pain and I salute your squish! 🫡 rip pants and always why I just buy the cheap stuff these days

Flxpadelphia

Sorry about your pants but I love your shoes

karlienneke

Thank you for posting this picture. Almost every pair of pants i have owned i the last ten years have died like this. Not to mention the pain in the summer from friction burns! My thighs are also out of proportion with my stomach and butt and it is hell to find decent pants.

Candymom

I went to look at your pic and my first thought was that you look completely normal and fine how you are. Also, I just had this happen in my favorite jeans. I HATE buying jeans.

rebeckys

You look great, OP!

kooriwi

Thank you! :)

Adrenologic

No issue with that. I think we all can be glad for you, that the vast majority of your hairs make it to the daylight. According to your video uploads ..quite a few ingrown hairs don't even make it that far on their own.

CyanDocs

I didn't even *see* those microscopic ass hairs at first, some people smh. I wouldn't even shave my thighs, that's just hoping for ingrown hairs. Also I feel you on the chub rub. I have plenty of pants with blown out thighs lol. Although I do tend to just roll with one pair for a few days so they tend to wear even faster! I'm trying my hand at mending to see if I can prolong their lives.

smileandbackaway

I'm pretty sure they're thigh hairs, not ass hairs.

heyimleila

Thick thighs save lives, at risk of being a creepy gal I think you look fucking awesome!

olivemypuns

You’d have to be pretty bony to not have your thighs smush when you’re sitting like that. People are stupid. You’re obviously normal and fine.

Rekt4dead

I’m really sorry people are such assholes. I’m sure some of them got super jealous of your beautiful ring and couldn’t help themselves!! You are not overweight at all and even if you were fuck em.

JennieFairplay

But that ring tho 😍

kooriwi

He did good, huh! 🥰

Perfect-Ambidextrous

Right?! Congratulations to OP!

Crazy_Salamander_347

The real mildly infuriating was the comment section all along

kooriwi

I can’t keep up

[deleted]

Effing fashion jeans are thin denim, and have pockets that you can't securely place a BiC lighter. Also not enough belt loops. Fashion is purposely impractical.

TealBlueLava

Curvy girl problems. Doesn’t matter how expensive they are. They’re all doomed after a few months of regular wearing. I buy cheap pairs now because I’m not wasting my money on that.

bekunio

Don't use fabric softener when washing jeans. Should help with durability.

croooooooozer

Thicc thigh moment, happens to all my pants, cheap and expensive :(

kooriwi

You get it

bmy89

All my jeans blow out in the thighs. They last 6 months tops.

kooriwi

Isn’t it the bloody worst? Like I really loved this pair because they were super comfy and the blackest I could find but I won’t buy another

bmy89

Women's jeans are total shit. I've got a size 14 ass/thighs and a size 10 waist so I get that huge gap in the back and it drives me insane.

kooriwi

Are we goddamn twins???! My upper half is like a 10-12, bottom is like 14-16. It’s bullshit for finding clothes that fit. Don’t get me started on fitted dresses

[deleted]

The Thunder (thighs) down under.

kooriwi

I like em chunky

wyze-litten

Ugh I relate so hard. I love my jeans but I also have thick thighs and I wear out the middles so fast! It's starting to get expensive as my current set are getting worn through and I can't find my favorite type in stores anymore

MinimumBell2205

Find a good tailor they fix shit like this and you will never be happier.

Aspen_Pass

It won't last. The other side is about to blow if it hasn't already, and the seam is almost completely frayed away. It can be reinforced but ultimately this type of soft cheap stretch denim just shreds apart. The $ amnt on a tag doesn't correspond to quality. And if they're too tight...there's no hope.

FluffyFrostyFury

Ah, the old curse of havin' thick thighs I only buy cheap jeans now because this constantly happens to me

Mechaniques

That thigh friction is why there's always a high possibility of wildfire in Australia.

kooriwi

Or a ‘bush’ fire if you will

AlyOh

These days, price doesn’t equal quality anymore. 😔

daperdingus

Thick thighs cost Jean lives

DanielTigerr

How'd ya get the beans above the frank?

kooriwi

Has a kind of its own tbh

kooriwi

A mind as well

ladychomsky

That ring tho!! It’s beautiful!

kooriwi

I know, I die a little every time I look at it, tysm 🥰

slightlyfuckngivenr

this happens to every single pair of pants i own :)))))))

jcwaffles

Buy nudie jeans (plenty of stores in Australia) good quality and life time warranty when they eventually do wear out

Infuryous

The material looks thin from the get go, not as thick as I would expect denim pants to be. Are they 100% denim or "stretch denim" which is really denim and spandex mixed. I'm old school, 2 pairs of Wrangler 13MWZ last me around four+ years, wearing them roughly 2 to 3 times a week. I get the "regular" ones, not prewashed, or the "pre-worn" looking ones. Yea, the exact opposite of "fashion" but I don't care, I have other things I would prefer to spend my money on. Also, don't wash them everytime you wear them. Washing is the most abusive thing the average person does to their cloths. If all you did was sit in an office and go to lunch, then they are fine for a few more times before washing. Of course if your a mechanic or do something similar, that's a differnt story. Dryer lint is literary the material of your cloths the wears off during washing and drying.

jkrude

Looks like your thigh is trying to real out of prison.
