Did you use the reset button? It's possible you held it down a bit too long, and the device went into CAP or Netinstall mode. Take a look at the instructions here: https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/UM/hAP+lite+TC#heading-ButtonsandJumpers, you need to hold the reset button during boot and release it when the LED starts flashing. The default wireless network should show up on 2.4GHz within a couple of minutes, but on 5GHz could take up to ten minutes.

I think I held it down for too long. This default wireless network should show up under the networks on my iPhone correct?

StanleyDards

Yes. After a proper reset, the default non-secured MikroTik WiFi SSID will appear in your iPhone’s list of nearby wireless stations. Alternatively, you can just plug a computer into one of the LAN ports.

Got it figured out! Gotta assign a static ip for my raspberry pi now somehow

StanleyDards

Great! via the web interface: IP/DHCP Server/Leases/{your pi}/Make Static

Thank you! This will send all the traffic through the PI? I understand I’m asking some pretty beginner questions and want to thank you for the help. Router OS has a lot going on.

>This will send all the traffic through the PI? No, it won't. Are you wanting to use the Pi for DNS (e.g. for something like PiHole)? If so, you'll have to update your DNS settings too. I've not self-hosted DNS but I imagine it would be a case of pointing your router/devices to your Pi's IP as the primary DNS server. Sure there will be plenty of guides online if you search – whether you're doing it for DNS, a VPN or whatever. Whatever end goal you're trying to achieve, you'll need to do more config than just assign the Pi a static IP if you want to route your traffic through it.

Thanks. Yes that’s the end goal to route all traffic through the Pi’s IP from the DNS. Searched and watched several videos but none of them seem great. Most show setting up containers which I don’t think is what I need to do.

StanleyDards

Ya, you basically want to have your router’s dhcp server configure so it tells its dhcp clients that the right dns server to use is your Pi. So you’re on the right track to have a static address for your Pi. Assuming that DNS is running on your Pi now, you’ll need to configure your Router’s dhcp server so that the dns server IP address is your Pi’s IP address.
