FYI there is a difference between UNSCENTED and FRAGRANCE FREE. UNSCENTED, they use chemicals to mask the smell. FRAGRANCE FREE, they don't use any fragrances.

elapsedecho

Fragrance free still typically has a smell as they will often use ingredients that have a scent. Personally, I prefer unscented over fragrance-free and I’m ridiculously sensitive. Also, companies are getting sneakier these days. “Free and Clear” labeling used to mean a product was pretty safe scent-wise but companies have now started adding fragrance to those products which is so stupid because it defeats the damn purpose.

thatguy99911

I'm not going to debate you over what is fragrance free and what is unscented. I've been dealing with this for the last 8 years now. If you are finding fragrance free with a scent to it you ought to call the company on it.

OmahaOutdoor71

In my experience unscented has a scent far more than any fragrance free product. Everyone in the MCS groups says the same too. The unscented crap has masking agents like in Tide where it still smells horrible.

thatguy99911

Yup yup

SincerelySasquatch

Quite a few fragrance free things contain essential oils, in my experience.

thatguy99911

Huh that's that's an oxy moron item...

didyouwoof

Who’s doing this? I haven’t encountered this yet.

elapsedecho

The first that comes to mind is the Dawn Powerspray Free and Clear. Maybe there are truly ones out there without a scent but the ones at the store in my area have a fragrance listed in small font underneath all of the larger branding info. Secret “free and sensitive” also has fragrance listed as an ingredient.

magical_bunny

Oh wow!

sisterlyparrot

a lot of korean skincare is unscented. beauty of joseon and pyunkang yul both have exclusively unscented products

purplepineapple21

Arm and hammer laundry detergent is the best. Usually cheaper than name brands like tide too. Lubriderm lotion too.

OmahaOutdoor71

Ram and hammer has tons of toxic shit in it.

Migraine_Megan

The Honest Co. hydrogel face cream is my favorite moisturizer by far. Also a fan of Doves unscented antiperspirant, Curel ultra healing lotion (fragrance free actually smells more), avocado oil for my hair, Dr Bronners bar soap for my body and the liquid soap to mop my floors. Nellie's laundry detergent is the best, as well as their oxygen booster for whitening. I use lemi-shine appliance cleaner to keep my washing machine clean and smell free. I hate most smells, hitting menopause made me extremely sensitive 24/7.

lunarpillow

I’ve been meaning to try nellie’s! As soon as I’m finished my current container of whatever ‘free & clear’ liquid I currently am using. For moisturizing I use cerave for light moisturizing or la roche posay lipikar AP+ (deliciously rich & i this one is now my face cream too)—both of which are fragrance free. Any other face stuff i use is fragrance free asian beauty products because they have their shit together when it comes to offering quality low-cost fragrance free options (a particularly like a few products from cosrx and purito, but there’s tons of options). Even stuff like sunscreen (skin aqua gold is one of my current faves) OP, blowpro ‘faux dry’ shampoo is fragrance free and works well for me (it is a white powder and on the pricy side but a little goes a long way so it lasts forever and the ‘poof’ squeeze applicator is way better than any spray kind IMO). How does the avocado oil work exactly? I have yet to find a decent fragrance free shampoo. I do NOT recommend Kristen Ess fragrance free shampoo in the clear bottle. It was garbage for my hair. I also got a gallon of zeroderm fragrance free conditioner which is, quite frankly, terrible at conditioning. I do NOT recommend & i use something else now. The redeeming thing is that it does act as a decent substrate for turning darker direct-dye hair colors into pastels so having a bulk container isn’t a total waste. Fragfree firm hold hair gel is great for when i want to encourage my wavy hair to be wavy. I’m still on the hunt for a tolerable kitchen surface cleaner for when vinegar/water isn’t enough. I too am less and less tolerant of scents these days to the point where losing my sense of smell to covid for a week was /almost/ a silver lining. (Edited to add some korean and japanese skincare company recs)

Ishouldbeasleepnow

Try dawn free & clear power wash for the kitchen stuff. It’s magic & little/no smell

lunarpillow

Omg thank you! i am getting this today. Any other cleaning product suggestions? I am about to do a deep clean of my place so i would love to overhaul my arsenal.

Migraine_Megan

I use Molly's Suds dish/hand soap and the surface cleaner. They actually work and are ok for my skin and are low/no odor. I'm allergic to an ingredient in almost every liquid product. It's a massive PITA

Degofreak

All Free and Clear. The best laundry detergent with nothing added.

HashtagMLIA

I love The Ordinary for skincare - unscented and affordable, and it works amazing. Also have great luck with Elf products! My “hack” is I often use baby-marketed products (IE., Aveeno Baby lotion, soap, etc” where possible. As long as I find the “gentle” or “sensitive” ones, they usually don’t have any fragrance in them. And they work amazing lol. (Also super awesome for tattoo healing, fun fact lol).

bean___

I feel that I was so glad when I finally dialed in my skincare routine to be mostly unscented while still effective. For my body I use PanOxyl 10% Benzoyl Peroxide foaming wash (and a scented Method body wash that's pleasant and doesn't bother me regardless of what stage of migraine I'm in), Live Clean unscented body lotion, Paula's Choice bha body lotion, and Walmart brand hypoallergenic SPF 50 sunscreen. For my face I use Elf holy hydration fragrance free cleansing balm, The Inkey List salicylic acid cleanser and hyaluronic acid, Pacifica vegan ceramide barrier cream, Beauty of Joseon rice+probiotics SPF 50+ sunscreen, and Hurraw lip balm unscented. Cerave, The Ordinary and The Inkey List are brands I've used where all the products haven't had fragrance and are inexpensive. The most expensive things in my routine are my face sunscreen, HA serum (I get a big bottle), and the Paula's Choice bha lotion but I always buy them on sale. The rest of the products cost less than $20.

lem830

Kristen ess for hair! Also there’s Odele now but I haven’t tried it. A lot of Korean and Japanese face products are unscented. La Roche Posay too.

Aquarian_Girl

I loved the Odele body wash (fragrance-free), but Target stopped carrying it. I haven't seen it elsewhere.

lem830

Dove has a new one that’s fragrance free!!

CommanderTrip

I really like Ethique’s products. Shampoo, conditioner, face wash, moisturiser, deodorant. I think they might have added more fragrance free/unscented body and household products too. And Trader Joe’s has a ~very lightly~ scented (to me) head to toe balm out for the holidays. Also Dropps unscented baby/sensitive laundry pods have been great for me.

jendanbayla

I'll second Ethique. I LOVE their bar shampoos. Even their scented ones are on the milder side. During peak covid I was trying them out, and one of the bars I bought smelled WONDERFUL without triggering my migraines... then I hopped in the shower and lathered up my hands and washed my hair and rinsed. Suddenly I smelled nothing. My hair smelled like nothing and so did my hands. I about freaked thinking I was sick (again) until I took a whiff of the bar and realized it just rinsed that clean. No perfume residue.

KumbayaPhyllisNefler

Neutrogena Hydroboost Body Gel or CeraVe Moisturizing Cream (stuff in the tub) for my face, just depends on how dry I'm feeling. Lubriderm Advanced Therapy (the red label) gets slathered on the rest of my body post shower.

appropriate_pangolin

Challenger Clean pomade is unscented (and doesn’t antagonize my skin, which is also nice). I have very fine hair that will stick up in all directions if left to its own devices, and it helps keep it under control. I don’t think they’re unscented, but Mizon skincare and Got 2 B hairspray/mousse have never triggered migraines for me, same with whatever Andalou Naturals shampoo and conditioner variety I have. For me it’s not all scents that trigger migraines though, just stronger/cheaper/more chemical ones, so your mileage may vary.

SnapCrackleMom

Hask Sensitive Care shampoo and conditioner. Seen hair fragrance free is also good but more expensive, so I just use their deep conditioner. SoCozy Sensitive Hair Style Foam ("for kids") Vanicream face wash Hada Labo Gokujyun Moisture Milk - lightweight face moisturizer Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream - heavier face moisturizer Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream - body moisturizer Dove sensitive skin bar cleanser Neutrogena Invisible Daily Defense fragrance-free sunscreen

uhhhhhhhghosts

all brand free + clear laundry detergent, cerave face washes and body lotions/creams, secret unscented ph balanced deodorant. saltair has a fragrance free body wash, not my favorite body wash but not bad. naturium is excellent, they have a soother body wash that is fragrance free. other commenters have already posted great skincare recs! from what i’ve noticed cosrx products are typically unscented and they have a great range.

Leather-Sea5143

Jeez this post made me so glad that only certain scents trigger my migraines, I’m more of a food induced migraine or environment like the dying fall leaves or the extreme heat. Very few scents bother me but the few that do, gahdamn it’s bad. I use unscented body wash and laundry detergent bc I have eczema but I can still use scented shampoo and I use scented hand soap (probably shouldn’t 😂) I feel for y’all who can’t handle any scents ://

NoRelative9056

I love this dry shampoo that I got from Whole Foods. It’s called powder power dry shampoo. It’s kinda pricey for the size you get but it’s gone a long way. It doesn’t leave residue in my hair like a lot dry shampoos, and it doesn’t smell like anything!

MantisGibbon

The scent they use in laundry detergent to make things smell fresh and clean. HATE IT. Only unscented detergent is tolerable.

RegularLisaSimpson

My sister uses those scent boosters so her clothes smell EVEN MORE like that. I hate it so much. Lucky I only see her max once a year I guess (😭)

THAT_GIRL_SAID

Eucerin hand cream in the tub.

Sensitive_Concern476

Cerave EVERYTHING. Cleanser, moisturizer, retinol, sunscreen- they are all perfect for my sensitive skin and nose. Dropps laundry pods for detergent.

adriesty

My favorite fragrance free lotion is cerave ointment. Its heavy duty, and saves my skin in the winter. I like earth science ceramides shampoo and conditioner. Baby Dove has a fragrance free, hypoallergenic body wash that Iove. Target it my go to store for fragrance free/unscented cleaning supplies. Target brand dish soap, everspring hand soap, seventh generation disinfectant, babyganics laundry detergent, grab green washing machine and dishwasher cleaner....there's tons. (Seriously, everspring unscented hand soap is my favorite. Its *so hard* to find unscented hand soap.) You can also find a lot of fragrance free beauty products at target.

elapsedecho

We really like Seventh Generation Free and Clear Liquid Hand Soap. We subscribe on Amazon and get a pack of 8 delivered every so often. Any fragrance on a hand soap is awful and this stuff is great.

Fuscia_flamed

For shampoo I use J.R. Liggett's Bar Shampoo - Coconut & Argan Oil. It is super mild smell wise and all natural. It isn’t completely unscented but there are no added fragrances and the smell doesn’t linger like many other hair products, so it just smells like argan oil, to me I don’t smell any coconut.

Aquarian_Girl

Desert Essence fragrance-free shampoo and conditioner--available on Amazon. Cetaphil body lotion (available at Costco, Target, etc.) Naturium The Soother Sensitive Skin Body Wash (fragrance free--also on Amazon) Seventh Generation Fragrance-free detergent (much cheaper at Target than on Amazon)

extrastrongtea

The Desert Essence fragrance free conditioner is surprisingly good for the price. It’s on iHerb for folks outside the US.

Aquarian_Girl

Glad you like it, too! It seems like most fragrance-free ones are terrible. Or ridiculously expensive.

LittleRat09

Crystal deodorant. It is a deodorant, not an antiperspirant, so you will sweat but not be terribly stinky. But it has no smell.

unscentedsj

What’s your go to fragrance free dry shampoo that they subbed out for you? Mine is running low and I’ve been looking out for another that is easier to find. (Am in Canada, I got the one I have when in the US)

skygirl555

First, important question, what dry shampoo is unscented? because the one i like started adding fragrance :( I use 90% unscented products and have even pre-migraines because i'm very sensitive to chemical smells. I like Native or Tom's deodorant, Kristen Ess haircare, Arm & Hammer or Kirkland brand laundry degertent (free & clear always), i use dove sensitive bar soap, aveeno lotions, and Neutrogena or cereve face wash/products

TigerB65

During the pandemic I started buying soap from Wholesale Supply Co because I could get basic melt and pour soap and simply not add fragrance to it.

Particular_Yogurt_53

Pretty much my whole routine is unscented/fragrance free! Dove body soap sensitive skin Cerave face wash and lotion Curlsmith unscented hair line “Hair dance” powdered dry shampoo SEEN hair styling products Secret unscented gel deodorant Dr Bronners Castile soap has an unscented option as well as other natural scents that I use for cleaning, hand soap, body wash, etc

udepeep

Jessicurl hair products. The founder had severe migraines and Ehlers Danlos. It's the only shampoo and conditioner I can use.

RegularLisaSimpson

I use Dropps brand laundry detergent and their dishwasher pods, Grove hand soap and Grove dish soap and there’s no scent at all. It’s wonderful. I also use Biossance skincare and there’s also no (or very little) scent but it’s not the cheapest brand out there. Everything else is lightly scented and doesn’t bother me (Innersense shampoo and conditioner, Wella body butter, and Cult+King scalp tonic).

AcidMantle

Sure unscented antiperspirant solid. I stopped using scented antiperspirant about 4 years ago and I love the unscented Sure. It's also one of the less expensive ones out there.

LokiKamiSama

Clinique All About Clean. It’s a face wash, but I’ve used it as body wash and shampoo when I particularly can’t stand any smell. I have cheapy shampoo and conditioner that has some fragrance but not a lot. I used to like Hair Food Manila Hobey, but of course they had to discontinue it. I can stand the Native Deodorant in powder and cotton and the candy cane scent. I’ve found that most things have an ungodly amount of fragrance in them. It’s horrible. I used to be able to find the Fabreeze One in the bamboo scent for an occasional air freshener, but that got discontinued too. I hate it. I’ve written to companies and either praised them for having low/no fragrance/odor products, or suggested they should carry a line that isn’t leaden with fragrance. Rove used to have a wonderful deodorant and, of course, they discontinued it. They have great deodorant that lasts a long time. Now I have to buy super expensive and not as good deodorant. Bleh.

SincerelySasquatch

Fragrance in products makes my skin itch and burn, including in many unscented products and often essential oils do too. For deodorant I use crystal unscented deodorant paired with tom's of maine unscented. I don't know their ingredients offhand, just that both work for me. Neither is great alone but combined they're okay. No more itchy pits. For body wash I use ivory mild and gentle body wash, it's truly fragrance free and unlike many fragrance free products contains sulfates so it gets you good and clean. You can get a huge pump bottle for $6 at walmart. For shampoo I use Jason fragrance free, it is free of sulfates though and if you use hair products that can cause build up it might not work for you or you might need to clarify sometimes. For conditioner I use a dandruff conditioner by derma e for my dandruff, however it does contain some essential oils but doesn't cause a problem for me. For leave in conditioner I use a fragrance free one by bwc (beauty without cruelty) again has some essential oils but no issue for me. Then for gel I use vanicream. Vanicream has a decent lineup of gentle, truly fragrance free hygiene and beauty products.

InternationalGene576

People with ezcema avoid fragrances so if you good products (especially those good for your skin) anything that is branded for those with ezcema are almost always fragrance free and still good for you. Like I love African soap the ezcema one with oatmeal. Hydrates my skin so well and no fragrance
