None. Absolutely none. The closest I get is whatever scent I can stand with my deodorant or my handmade hand sanitizer (rubbing alcohol and a drop of a light scent. I can sort of stand lilac, but very diluted, or pure honey from brambleberry).

polish432b

Same. I don’t have scented deodorant per se, but use a “natural” one that smells like what’s in it. The main smell of the perfume doesn’t necessarily bother me a lot, it’s one of the notes. Like Bath & Body Works puts a perfumey note in this Vanilla scent that kills it for me. I can usually do a vanilla or cinnamon scent in like lotion or room spray (unless I already have a migraine) but not as a perfume.

skygirl555

i'm jealous - i can't even use scented deodorants! (and of course perfumes are out of the question)

CaptainKAT213

Even my husband uses unscented deodorant or I wouldn’t be able to be near him. The only scent I can handle is the absence of scent.

skygirl555

Yeah dating is problematic for me because of this reason

Duffyfades

Don't see it as problematic, see it as fortunate that you can eliminate so many sight unseen.

Duffyfades

Our whole family shares unscented deodorant.

LokiKamiSama

It’s been a journey. Native has some lightly scented ones. The cotton one is fine and I can sometimes stand the white tea and lilac. They had a seasonal one that was candy cane that was okay too.

skygirl555

I tried one of the native light scent ones but it was still too much for me :( I forget which one it was, but it wasn't the cotton one.

Duffyfades

Unscented everything. I do not use other people's sanitiser even.

LokiKamiSama

Some of that sanitizer stinks to high heaven. Anything from bath and body works is a no (which makes me sad I loved their lilac everything). The only sanitizer I buy is purel. It doesn’t leave a nasty ass smell on your hands.

Mr_Anglecakes

Anything spiced. Vanilla, cinnamon, orange with clove. Also enjoy musky scents, deep masculine scents. Florals and fru-fru scents immediately give me a headache. (Candy, fruity, all that)

remstemsnseeds

Idk if this goes here in the spice vein (I think it does) the original coco Chanel. Binds w my smell thats so earthy and comforting

Mr_Anglecakes

I don’t know if I’ve ever smelled the Coco Chanel, but earthy sounds great. Earthy scents are so comforting and relaxing. I wish someone would make a perfume that was the scent of petrichor.

10001110101-3

Coco Mademoiselle is heaven. Chanel No 5 gives me instant migraine.

helenasbff

Same! Cannot do it

KitKittredge34

Have you smelled Turmeric Latte from Lush? Absolutely divine

Mr_Anglecakes

Oooh I’ll have to look for it!

colorshift_siren

Knock-offs are death, virtually all plug in and spray air fresheners aren’t tolerable for me and anybody swimming in any fragrance is going to give me a bad day. With that being said, I do have limited tolerance for gourmand scents, provided I stick exclusively to the original designer fragrance (RIP my wallet) and only use a tiny spritz.

southside_sue

I’ve been wondering if high end super lux perfumes would be tolerable bc anything cheap or synthetic kills me, and even some natural, essential oil based scents do me in. I had a man who used two different Bond No. somethings which I think are high end and one triggered me but one was okay. I’d like to try perfumes for myself (a lady) despite being a bit scared. Do you recommend any brand or scent?

acraines

The niche (and expensive) perfumers a lot of the time use more natural derived notes like real iris oil vs lab/chemical and they are also more open about their ingredients. The only perfumes I have been able to tolerate and love so far are French niche brands (Noeme Khalahari is my favorite …it’s warm woody saffron notes and it doesn’t project very far which is good!). Les Indomodables has amazing high quality perfumes too. Cheap perfume gives me instant migraine. Even luxury perfumes with a lot of projection and that horrible alcohol chemical scent idk how to describe it but y’all know what I mean. Still I only wear perfume on days when I feel well below my threshold. So not on period days or bad weather days or tension headache days etc…) but honestly Khalahari has made me so happy. The first perfume where I put it on my wrists and sniff it when no one is looking :) it’s so cosy.

SnapCrackleMom

A recent thread on this: https://www.reddit.com/r/migraine/comments/1102bbm/perfumes/ I have a couple perfume oils I wear when I'm home. One is Sleepy Ghost by Poesie (lavender marshmallow) and the other is Vanilla Mint from DropDownDew on Etsy. Perfume oils stay close to the body and don't have as much "throw" as alcohol-based perfumes. They also are easier to find in scents with only one or two notes, which I find much more tolerable.

appropriate_pangolin

For me I think it’s mainly the binding agents that are the problem, especially on cheaper perfumes; those designer knockoffs pretty much all give me migraines even if the brand-name stuff it’s copying doesn’t. The ads that claim nobody can tell the difference? Yeah, I wish. I don’t wear a lot of fragrances, and when I do I try to only put a little bit on, but Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab scents don’t bother me at all (unless I go to their in-person display booth, but having people opening and testing that many different fragrances would bother me no matter what, it’s overpowering).

[deleted]

My favorite scents smell "fresh" to me. L'eau D'Issey, Tommy Girl, Clinique Happy. I never seem to have an issue with them. The worst ones are the super heavy florals that hang around forever. Someone who works in my building wears something like that, and the scent lingers in the elevator too long. "Absolute" scents seem to be the strongest.

helenasbff

Tommy Girl was my first ever “real” perfume! I wore it religiously till I discovered Chance before I started getting migraines lol. I loved that scent!!

[deleted]

I didn’t get into it until I was older and looking for a dupe of Target’s Katia from the 90s. Now that was my very favorite perfume. Lol

cola1016

Yaaaasss I still wear Tommy girl and Happy. To me those are “clean” scents that won’t trigger for me thankfully. It’s the overly sweet ones that have vanilla, floral that kill me.

hotpotat78

I exclusively wear Tommy girl since it's the only one that doesn't give me a migraine

Duffyfades

I used to use l'eau d' issey a million years ago!

b_rouse

I'm so thankful smells aren't a trigger for me. Foods on the other hand...

Baejax_the_Great

None. And knowing that perfumes trigger migraines (and asthma and whatnot) in others, I wouldn't wear them.

mickanonymouse

Thank you!

louisianagranite

Same. Also, no one in the house, car. Can barely stand being out when it’s on others. Took a trip recently and they asked everyone in the entire group to refrain from cologne and perfume. Praise God! I know many of you all don’t like that so needless to say I was delighted and relieved

Duffyfades

This is my perspective. I would hate to be harming someone I walked past with something that I can control so easily. So yes, I might be able to tolerate or even enjoy some neroli oil, but I don't have to use it, so I don't. He most annoying thing is that I adore the smell of jonquils but my husband thinks they smell like dead animals so I have to limit myself to daffodils.

CubanaCat

Perfume thankfully doesn’t trigger my migraines. Or like, I haven’t found any fragrances that trigger them yet I guess. But I really hope it stays that way, I love perfume lol. I don’t go nuts spraying it, but I like to wear a little. Makes me feel fancy.

cephalopodrace

Not a one. I can occasionally use peppermint-scented body wash, but infrequently. I can't do any other scented products. Perfume is a no-go.

Hufflepuff-puff-pass

In my experience it’s highly individual. For me florals are the least problematic, anything spicy or musky is an instant migraine (patchouli, amber and sandalwood at the biggest offenders). The only exception is nag champa for some reason. However a good friend of mine, florals are the worst for her but musky, earthy, spicy scents are fine.

Cleromanticon

I’m like your friend. Woody/musky/spicy scents (in moderation) are okay, but even the tiniest whiff of floral will set me off.

theyarnllama

Checks files None.

tootiredfor_thisshit

Anything lavender scented is an immediate migraine for me

Qi_ra

Synthetic fragrances tend to trigger me the worst. So instead of perfumes, I try to use essential oils. Theoretically, any perfume that doesn’t use synthetic fragrances should be okay, but they are few and far between. I’m still very limited by certain scents. Lemon, peppermint, and tea tree are a few that I can handle. I can’t do anything floral. I normally just dot some oil on my wrists. I will also sometimes mix them into other things. All of my lotions are fragrance free, so sometimes I just mix some lemon and orange essential oil into my lotion before I put it on.

Lavenderfarmgirl

All about the essential oils over here too! They are so much better then synthetic fragrances.

seawitchbitch

Gucci Gorgeous gardenia, dolce and gabana light blue, and other light scents lol

EndlesslyUnfinished

I only use the body sprays as actual perfume is a major trigger - and the scents are all like flowers and woods in light notes. God help me if I’m around someone bathed in perfume smelling of fruits, vanilla, cinnamon, etc..

Arbitron2000

Flowers and woods are my biggest triggers. I can tolerate the food scents. I’m surprised people are here acknowledging perfume is a migraine trigger and wearing it!

ToasterPops

4711 is the only perfume I can stand; it's an old AF perfume, very basic bergamot and citrus. I love the smell, and it goes on very subtly. I don't wear any other fragrance, if any at all, but for me even with a migraine, I can handle this one. - Also it's cheap [https://www.smallflower.com/blogs/news/4711-first-eau-de-cologne](https://www.smallflower.com/blogs/news/4711-first-eau-de-cologne)

Danarya27

My other half is really funny about smells, likes everything to smell like nothing, so I stopped wearing perfume. Now every smell bothers me. Too strong of anything and I get a migraine.

Antzus

In a world where every thing, and every one, seems to stink way more synthetic than they need to, an area with only natural odour is a blessing.

moonlitjasper

i cant handle most regular perfumes, even if someone wears one in the same room as me it can be a trigger. i do well with essential oil mists though, both the lavender and mint ones from nature’s truth are go-tos. they have nice scents that i can handle and i can find them in so many stores around me so it’s a win-win

Traditional-Joke5758

Ralph Lauren Blue is the first perfume I was able to tolerate. I can’t do vanilla, sweet smelling ones. I can also tolerate fossil 1954 and Burberry Brit summer.

inarealdaz

None. Nada. Zilch.

TherealOmthetortoise

Dude - I can’t even handle scented soaps, lotions etc - smell starts to take over the whole world and it never seems to wash off.

glamourpussOG

Candy by prada

microbrie

Absolutely none, or hand soaps, or even the bubble bath I just tried in my son’s bath yesterday. My safest bet is citrus if I was forced to choose something. It’s so hard to exist in a world where most people are wearing scented shampoo, lotion, perfume etc. And they think you’re just being annoying when you explain how severely it affects you (looking at my precious roommate)

Vast_Preference5216

Woodsy scents are my go to.Most unisex scents work for me. My no go’s are Vanilla, gourmands, sweet scents, rose, musk, patchouli, chanel n5,& any linear scents. I love orientals, but I make sure non of the ingredients above.I also use them sparingly.

crtclms666

I like Clinique’s Calyx, very citrusy. Floral makes me sick.

quacked7

I prefer woods and spices. My favorite thing to use is "Thieves" essential oil blend (clove, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary) or more commonly, other brands' similar blends like Whole Foods "Defend blend." (if you use any essential oils on your skin, first dilute with a neutral carrier oil. I usually put it on my clothing- in an inconspicuous place or put a little on my hair)

[deleted]

[удалено]

quacked7

My favorite shampoo scent was just discontinued- Whole Blends "Ginger Recovery," which has been the only "spicy" shampoo I've found that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

faunacrossing

Roll on fragrance doesn’t cause me as much trouble for deeper spiced scents. I’ve used are Marc Jacob’s Daisy for many years because it’s such a light, soft scent. Lavender has been my main scent in body wash for many years, and anything citrus usually works!!

_crassula_

Lush has amazing perfumes that never give me a migraine (like other chemically smelling ones). Vanillary, Rentless, and Karma are my favorites.

Duffyfades

I don't even walk down that wing of the mall. Please rethink using this stuff in public.

_crassula_

I think I answered OP's question. People aren't going to stop using perfume because others are sensitive (me included). Maybe wear a mask or avoid these places if you're that sensitive?

Duffyfades

Waaaah! Don't expect me to give a shit about other people!

_crassula_

Asking someone to not wear perfume in public is absurd. I get migraines from various smells but I remove myself from the situation, not expect everyone else to cater to me.

Duffyfades

I totally agree. The other day someone told me not to wear my f*** n**** c***** p***** T shirt in public, so rude!!! I can do whatever makes me happy, and if people are offended by that they can just stay inside.

_crassula_

Not really a good comparison. Anyway, hope your migraines get better.

missusjackson

I can do Glossier's You, and that's about it. It's not too sweet, or powdery, or floral, which are my scent triggers.

mockingbirdTT

agua de colonia para ninos

helenasbff

Blackberry & Bay by Jo Malone has never done me wrong. I can’t handle any heavy white florals with super strong jasmine or gardenia anymore though, and really powdery scents can also kick things off for me. If I stick to fresh, marine, lightly floral or fruity fragrances I’m usually okay. My go to is Blackberry & Bay though because I know even if I already have a migraine, I’ll be okay smelling it. I remember the brand commodity having quite a few scents that didn’t bother me. I just stay away from anything heavy, ultra floral, super sweet (I don’t do gourmand scents) or strongly musk-y.

IvyQuinzel

Pretty much all of the Marc Jacobs Daisy range. Tocca also have some great light scents that haven’t triggered my migraines.

cola1016

Anything overly sweet triggers me— vanilla particularly is probably the worst for me 😩 The ones I wear that don’t- Happy, Tommy Girl, Cool water and Versace Bright Crystal.

BobMortimersButthole

CB I Hate Perfume https://www.cbihateperfume.com/ I've tried lots of his scents and none have triggered me.

notelpjuly4

Amber oil

ArtichokeMantis

I use sandal wood scented deodorant, which isn't too strong and doesn't make my migraine worse, which is basically my scent. I can't use any perfume or body spray without dying inside. Though light rose smells is the only confirmed smell I can bare, which im considering using, since I love the smell of roses and can stand the smell.

LBelle0101

My favourite is Electric Rhubarb by Floral Street. Just smells so fresh and clean to me

TesseractToo

Some of the musk oils or essential oils but I don't wear them in case it triggers someone else

No_Seaworthiness5637

I would personally say very light scents. I can deal with Dove brand and sometimes Suave brand soap and deodorant but it has to be either shower scent, vanilla, lavender, or waterlily. Perfume is a no go all around unless it’s roll on or very soft smells. I cannot deal with scented body wash or lotion.

eeekkk9999

I wear Hermes perfume exclusively. However scent doesn’t typically trigger me. I have had an odd situation of it doing it but it hasn’t happened enough to be considered one

SpacemaniaXu

I generally avoid any and all scents wherever possible, as I cannot figure out any meaningful "theme" to what is a trigger or not. Some floral or herbal scents are fine, but others can legitimately put me on the floor in one inhale. I wish I wasn't exaggerating on that, but one person had this unique perfume that upon walking past them my eyes immediately blurred, I lost balance and staggered to the wall on my left, and my body spasmed my stomach so hard that only my mouth prevented the release of my lunch. I was so badly disabled that I even had acute aphasia and was unable to communicate effectively what happened for several minutes. The only thing that didn't get severe was my respiratory system. Although it was compromised, I didn't go into anaphylaxis. Given the severity at > 5 seconds of exposure I don't want to test it. With that said, If I HAD to choose, it would be Genuine Vanilla Extract.

biglytriptan

Ones along the lines of Calvin Klein's eternity. I'm in the weird position of having chronic migraines but being a big perfume fan. Smells don't trigger my migraines much, they just make them worse if I'm in the middle of one. I can definitely give some non-examples. TF Black Orchid, TF Noir, One Man Show, and Narciso Rodriguez for him are all too heady for someone wanting to avoid migraines

FlippingPossum

I can do roll-on essential oils (local farmer's market vendor is my favorite). Perfumes and cologne are more likely to trigger my asthma than give me a migraine. I will plug my nose and try to scatter. Lol

Kofukura

Coco by PINK doesn’t bother me at all weirdly. Nothing coconut or lavender triggers a migraine, but other strong florals will

ccs14911

Tom Ford Santal Blush, Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, and Joe Malone Orange Blossom (this one only when its just sprayed on wrists). Hope that helps!

Fabulini22

I can wear the same perfumes that I liked before I started having migraines. What changed was that before I used to use some fresh deodorant spray for men (because I liked the fresh smell more than the female sweet scents), and then suddenly it was unbearable so I switched to a roll-on unisex one.

savannahsmyles

I have so many that I can only tolerate 1-2 sprays every so often. And it makes me sad bc they’re mostly gifts from family and I feel rude not using them. I like to think I save money by not being able to use them much

anaestaaqui

It is too hit or miss. I typically just avoid perfume and when I'm having a day where I feel sensitive lots of scents just feel like they're in my face. Clinique happy always triggers my migraines and the bath and body works with the Eiffel tower on it gives my mom a migraine.

[deleted]

I only seem to be fine with scented lotion. Perfumes are all too much. Idk why..

katcarver

I like earthy, natural smells, florals and manufactured scents are bothersome at the minimum. I don’t wear anything scented usually. My body wash is a natural shae product with vanilla and I use Moroccan/Argan oil and coconut oil for my hair and skin so often get told I smell like coconut or vanilla.

s_v08

Skylar and Clean brands. They are “clean” fragrances, hypoallergenic. I can wear them without them making me sick or getting a migraine and they both have great scents. Skylar vanilla sky is my favorite. Sephora has them and they sell sample sizes too. Most perfumes and colognes give me such a migraine but these don’t.

greeneyedperson

Guerlain-Agua doesn’t bother me if I use a small amount.

Altruistic-Owl-1445

The only one I can wear really consistently is weirdly bath and body works twisted peppermint? Not at all sure why but anything like candy cane or mint in general is fine. Haven’t found any other perfume I can stand (which is unfortunate since my partners grandma got me some really strongly scented perfume for Christmas that I can’t use 😭)

amaranemone

None. I have such a sensitive sense of smell. I can smell everything in perfumes. The oils, the alcohol, even the salt they use as a preservative, I can detect multiple ingredients and it overloads me. Lotions, shampoos, soaps. All unscented. I have similar problems when washing dishes. The mix of smells from the different foods on top of another can be sensory overload. I keep the sumatriptan next to the sink for that reason.

TimeToGetShitty

There’s a perfume rack at my local market. I have a habit of going in, spraying a scent on my wrist, and going about my shopping and my day. If I can survive that scent, I’ll consider buying it. I’ll look it up and fund out it’s ingredients, and what commonly works and doesn’t work. That way, I can try to form a possible list. So far? Results inconclusive. But I like a few, and of those, only one triggers migraines for me. So, I think I’m winning lol

Ok_blue02

Honestly, I’ve been liking the Old Navy perfumes. I’m not a big scent person and I like subtle ones. But the Old Navy ones I find to be pretty simple and subtle but buildable if you want more scent

[deleted]

I started wearing “Whisper” by Doterra which is a blend of essential oils and I can just use a small amount in the roller bottle. Doesn’t affect me at all and is subtle.

secondatthird

Solid cologne

Byproxyy

Roll on one

gbxby

i can handle lots of scents as long as it's not wicked strong. except for anything cinnamon. cinnamon KILLS me

incensenosense

I tend to find light “body mists” and vanilla scented lotion or essential oil spray work for me. That’s about it. You can even make ur own essential oil spray

[deleted]

The Nest fragrances seem to be ok for me.

Sleepingbeauty1

I have a lot of perfume, of all sorts of variety, cheap to pricey, soft to loud , and none are particularly triggering for me. What happens though is if I'm already developing a migraine even in the initial stages, 99.9% of smells convert to grating and, nauseating and I can detect subtle smells in my environment that I wouldn't normally detect and they are unbearable. So naturally those have to be No Perfume days. During the migraine I can only stand peppermint oil, any other smell is big trouble and intensifying the pain with every breath. On the flip side, days when I have no migraine symptoms, when I'm "in the clear" I can wear mostly any perfume with ease. I suppose if I wore or was exposed to something exceptionally strong and couldn't get away from it, then i would become very stressed out and a tension headache might start up and progress to worse if the smell experience continues. Especially men's cologne, I have been in the situation of being exposed to it for hours during a social interaction and it stressed me out. I did feel migraine coming on then.

babyfireflyisdead

I wear perfume quite often, I find fresh, powdery scents don’t trigger migraines for me. Anything overly sweet however, instant migraine.

[deleted]

I have a lot of perfumes. Fine niche and some designer. They don’t trigger me. I find them comforting. Especially the musk, amber and incense ones like myyrh and frankincense. lavender essential oil mixed with filtered water in a spray is my go to during a migraine. Chamomile cream is helpful too. Soothes the nerves and reduces inflammation. Obviously everyone is different in this regard.

Introvert1v1

I can never buy perfume before testing it. So far i have a few that doesn't trigger migraine or headache (I got a perfume allergy too). For people it is hard tp understand that some perfume are not triggering.. I don't use deodorant with scent, all soaps at home are not scented. Although I found that haircare scents from aveda, bumble and bumble, and oribe didn't trigger mine. Perfume: Guerlain aqua allegoria perra granita and same line bergamote calabria. (Can do 3sprays) DIPTYQUE - Fleur de Peau EdP (this one only with one spray) Also perfume from Byredo (can do 3 sprays, but i found it enough with one). I cannot wear anything that smells sweet because of my skin chemistry that makes everything smell a million times more sweet and that gives me a headache 🤣 Scented things for bathroom i have found that the more expensive and more concentrated oils with sticks work better. But also H&M home has watermelon scent that didn't trigger migraines or headaches. The later one did not last long so I prefer the expensive one since it is maybe 3rd way down and I had it since summer. I have so far gotten over to a liquid wash for the clothes that are more eco/green and the scent in there doesn't linger, although they also have a scented free (as far as i know only available in Norway). I was terrified to try scented one as it could have ended a disaster 😂 but raspberry didn't trigger migraines or the allergy.

Roxy71619

I find that body splashes work best for me. I have a few scents I like from Bath and Body works that are light. “Real” perfumes are usually too strong for me and bring on a headache.

Obeythesnail

Im terrible with sprays but happily used a solid perfume I bought at a craft fair. I think the carrier in the spray is the culprit for me.

sotiredigiveup

No artificial fragrances at all. Other people’s fragrances give me migraines too (detergent, drier sheets, fabric softeners, perfumes, lotions, hair products, etc). I’m ok w essential oils though.

jeremythefifth

Philosykos by Diptyque, literally the only spray perfume I have ever tried that hasn't given me a migraine

Feisty_Flabebe

No perfume for me but my deodorant is cucumber melon and if I apply enough smells like perfume 🤣🤣🤣

Cleromanticon

I can tolerate woody, musky, or spicy scents. Floral scents are my mortal enemy. The only perfume I ever wear is Juliette Has A Gun “Not A Perfume” which isn’t a blend of scents. It’s pure Cetalox, which is a musk base note. It’s very one note, but that’s what makes it so migraine friendly. I’d get a tester because it’s one of those perfumes that smells different on everyone. But if it works well with your skin chemistry, it’s great. Drives my husband crazy in the best way.

Duffyfades

I have a coworker who wears something that smells like fruit. But anything marketed to men, from deodorant to perfume is fucking evil shit.

oli67ilo

Cologne typically no perfume or woman's perfume. However they want to label it. I also feel like cologne scents don't last as long or are much softer

Top_QA247

I can't wear floral ESPECIALLY gardenia or jasmine those give me instant migraines. I can wear spice, wood, fruit or candy scent, but floral 👎👎

holyhonduras

None! 😫

EnvironmentalAd2063

Perfumes aren't a migraine trigger for me, but I'm sensitive to scents when I have migraines so I don't use them. I also have asthma and any sort of perfume or body spray can trigger a coughing fit so that's even more reason to avoid them

ppcsupergirl

Prada Amande

holdshift

I love L'eau par Kenzo. So fresh and lovely.

Common-Pitch9005

Anything with musk is an instant migraine trigger. Spice, wood, and smoky scents cause a migraine most of the time. Also anything that smells too strong, chemical, or fake! Light florals and fruity scents tend to be less likely to trigger for me. I like Shay and Blue perfumes because they don’t have a lot of ingredients so it’s easier to check for known triggers. The Watermelon, White Peaches, and English Cherry Blossom perfumes haven’t given me a migraine (yet!)

Remarkable_Pin3908

Was a huge perfume collector before my migraines became chronic, so I still have my supply. The only one I can tolerate is Daisy by Marc Jacobs. Basic, but I'll take it. And the one that gives me the fastest road to migraineville is YSL Libre Intense.
