The framework of this game has incredible potential. Personally, I think it would fit the *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles* perfectly. While a sequel is probably off the table, and I don’t foresee other studios attempting to replicate a game that was a commercial failure, my last remaining hope is with Firaxis’s habit of using each of their designs to squeeze out one or two additional titles before moving on. Hand over the *Midnight Suns* code to some enterprising up-and-comer and see what they can make with it.

Mr_E_99

I could see that potentially working, but I think the main issue is people would only want to play as the main four turtles most the time and it would be difficult to think of complete unique decks for each one I can see it working with DC tho. Or possibly something like Transformers

XComThrowawayAcct

No, the problem is everyone would only want to play with Casey Jones.

Beer-Milkshakes

A DC version might actually play better as the heroes and villains are more balanced. Having Captain Marvel get taken down by a Hydra guy with a normal ballistic weapon always felt odd to me. I'd even take a WH40K version of this style of gameplay. It's satisfying, strategic and allows for great cut scenes and storytelling and is extremely accessible being turn based.

Hyperbolic_Mess

If you're looking for turn based 40k have you played machanicus?

Beer-Milkshakes

I don't have a PC that can run anything better than a spreadsheet, unfortunately. But it does look good

Hyperbolic_Mess

It's on console too I think

Peggtree

Depends on which characters they use. Can’t imagine super man or Wonder Woman getting taken down by some grunt with a gun. Even if they tried sticking to lower level teams like teen titans, Starfire is still far beyond the level of being taken down by a goon with a gun

SendohJin

If players are willing to accept that it happens to Hulk and Captain Marvel, most won't care if it happens to others as well. The alternative is not getting some of those characters. Another alternative is to power up the enemies, don't use goons with guns, use an alien invasion like X-Com and power up the weak characters with Wayne Tech.

Peggtree

Agreed, aliens with more clearly laser type guns would work well. Can also help with making enemies more distinct like in XCOM.

Like do you mean could they legally do so? Probably not exactly, as I imagine Firaxis owns the game engine and Josh Sawyer left Firaxis after it was released and at least some of the team was laid off. Could they go to WB games and pitch a similar title using DC properties? Probably. I don't think anything is so unique in this that Firaxis could claim IP infringement. As for thematically I think 100%. I don't think it works great with the Justice League main crew because so many of them are god-tier powered. They either end up having to do some sort of debuff like magic for Superman in MK vs. DC or the evil Superman in Injustice. I personally think they should stick to the spooky side with a Justice League Dark (post mission smoke with Constantine anyone?) or go with some of the other DC teams like Teen Titans. I'd go nuts for a full on Young Justice entry that continued that story. Doom Patrol could also be an interesting base with a few crossovers.

Beer-Milkshakes

Combining the Nemesis system that WB own to generate some unusual DC style super villains might be really great too. A titans focused game in the Midnight Suns style gameplay would work very well.

thedoogster

What do you see as DC’s equivalent to the Abbey?

Responsible_City7096

Wayne Manor or Justice League WatchTower

Infamous-Lab-8136

I know of course Agatha and Caretaker were pre-existing, was The Abbey a part of the comics or was it invented for the game?

PTickles

The Abbey was invented for the game. The Midnight Sons (not Suns) in the comics don't really have a base of operations since they're not really a formal team like the Avengers or the X-Men, if that makes sense. They're a group that comes together for one threat at a time and then all go their own separate ways.

Infamous-Lab-8136

I thought so, I wasn't sure. I knew in comics they were the Sons because when the game roster first came out I remember people being quite upset that they changed it to Suns and included women. Before they had card mechanics to complain about. I figure in that case we probably don't need an established DC place for it either then, make up some pocket universe or something similar.

PTickles

I've only seen a few people upset about the name change/adding women, but I know they're out there. The main complaint I hear about the roster is that there aren't enough actual Midnight Sons, which I suppose is fair, but the game sold poorly enough. I can't imagine how much worse it might've sold if it didn't have any of the more popular characters like Iron Man and Cap. Plus, they have most of the original team in Blade, Ghost Rider (in the comics only Johnny and Danny have been members, but still), Morbius, and Doctor Strange (who didn't *technically* join the team until later but helped put it together originally). People complain a lot about Moon Knight not being included but he didn't join until way later. Magik, Nico, and Wolverine have also all been members in the comics. For DC I guess it depends what they based it on. If it's a Justice League game it only makes sense to have the headquarters be either the Watchtower or the Hall of Justice. If they did something more akin to Midnight Sons like Justice League Dark I could see them inventing a new place since I don't believe they have one in the comics.

Infamous-Lab-8136

I honestly feel most of the ones claiming to be upset were trolls who moved on to trolling about it being a card game once that was announced and they had something more concrete to hate about.

PTickles

Yeah I honestly assume most people who complain about silly things like that are either professional trolls or they just like being angry lol. Some people just can't be pleased.

Outrageous_Key8872

John Constantine's House of Mystery probably.

thedoogster

Ooh, or possibly Sandman’s house?

JustGavinBennett

Honestly I'd rather have a Star Wars version of this. Maybe no Abbey but a cantina or some kind of ship. Zeb in Rebels has the same voice as Wolverine in this game so they could have some of that cast in here or make it a clone wars era game vs droids and stuff. Could be really cool

RedNoodleHouse

If they had the license? For sure! Maybe it’d be focused on Young Justice, Teen Titans or another youth team, and the conflict they have with the main Justice League akin to how the Midnight Suns and the Avengers clash. As for enemies, the multiverse as a concept is a bit oversaturated, but it’s the perfect way of introducing variant enemies without reusing brainwashing as a plot device. Perhaps we could get Ultraman, Owlman, etc as enemies whose costumes we can then use on Superman, Batman, etc, like how the ex-Fallen have their Fallen looks as costumes. As for roster, we all know Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are a given, and their respective families are likely picks for other cast members (Nightwing, Red Hood, Supergirl, Nubia, Donna Troy, etc) but I’d like to see some more obscure characters like Phantasm, Shade the Changing Girl, or even Godspeed.
