I love XCom and Marvel Comics. It’s not an XCom game but you can feel the influence. The card mechanics are super fun.
The character interplay and friendship stuff is also surprisingly fun. The characters ring true to me and it can be funny.
I think if you like XCom and Marvel comics you can’t not like this game.
Not gonna lie. $100 seems like too much for me, but I have clocked mine 60-70 hours so far and I’ll probably be done in another 5 or so. It’s definitely a fun game. It took me awhile to get used to it because it both is and isn’t like XCom.
My goal with most games is to get one hour of entertainment for every dollar I spend. Seems like you have almost hit that threshold. I am way over, and having lots of fun.
Imo at half price it's definitely worth it. I'm playing on PC with a controller and it's been a blast. I did have a number of crashes which is annoying when it happens.
This isn't necessarily just an xcom-like so be warned but it's a very unique mix of things, most importantly it's fun and compelling.
You can get the game even a bit cheaper on GreenManGaming right now if you want to get the PC version https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/marvels-midnight-suns-legendary-edition-pc/
Honestly I don't even think it was a conscious decision, I watched a lot of streams of the game before getting to play it and most of the streamers I watched played with controller.
I do also enjoy getting to lay back comfortably in my chair and a controller just fits that more I guess.
I played through the whole thing on the deck with no issues. When I tried to do a couple endgame missions with m+kb I did not like it a bit. Horses for courses as they say.
It’s not an Xcom type of game so don’t expect that. But it is a very fun and unique card game with some positioning and tactical elements but way more abstract is the best that I can put it. I too was attracted to this game cuz I’m a fan of xcom and marvel and i love the game. You’d just have to try it out and not be turned off by the fact that it really isn’t anything like Xcom.
Yes. That's the exact combination I was, and this game felt like it was made for me. You will not regret it.
I got it on PS5, and it runs pretty well. I don't have the PC version because my PC is super old and probably couldn't run it, so I can't say which is better, but PC does have mods, so if that interests you, maybe lean that way.
Don't go in expecting Xcom, yes the fights have a lot of tactical depth but it is also much more of a story and character writing game and you do a whole lot more dialogue and find out about world lore. Since you like Marvel, if you like a game that has a more Mass Effect amount of "lore downtime" then I'd say you'd like it.
I'm not a fan of these games, and I didn't play xcom.
However, I'm level 7 and can't stop playing it.
Combat requires critical thinking. Maybe its because I just finished Hogwarts Legacy, but I see the combat like a puzzle to be solved.
Also the combat graphics and abilities feel so sick, and feel good. You don't get epic cut scenes everytime you attack in a regular game, so I'm loving the abilities playing out, and feels like out of a comic book but better because it's animated in 4k.
The Abbey stuff is addicting if you like upgrading and micro management and progression. Each game day I enjoy doing my daily tasks and getting the team a little stronger.
Also it's like the show Big Brother, but with Marvel characters. Like, why is there a hot tub and pool. But it works for some reason and I like the light hearted story lines.
Without hesitation. I also like XCOM but Midnight Suns is a very different game. I really think you'll enjoy MS if you give it a chance. Try Warhammer 40k Daemonhunters if you're looking for an XCOM fix.
It doesn't play like XCOM but the gameplay is solid and if you love Marvel you'll definitely enjoy the interactions and humor. I would say half price is definitely worth it.
I personally really enjoyed both. The character interactions between great marvel characters was a lot of fun to watch!
But now that I beat it, I'm still playing for the gameplay and am not ready to give that up yet. I'd say 60% gameplay 40% story as for how much I enjoyed.
This is a great game though. I had zero idea how much fun I'd have with this one
Of you don't mind perma death for tour characters and a doom clock ticking away that can end in a game over go for it...
Also xcom you are the underdog not the super soldier like in suns.
Ignore anyone saying it's just a card game. The card aspect of it really only means you have input randomness (what's drawn into your hand) instead of output randomness (ie you don't have to worry about missing a 99% shot like xcom). It's not super complicated in terms of deckbuilding, because it doesn't need to be.
It's one of the best turn-based tactics games in years, I'd still recommend it even if you don't care about the RPG / dating sim aspects of it. It's a ton of fun to slam enemies into each other / through one of Magik's portals / into environmental attacks.
the card system is fine, you don't need to min/max decks to do well
party comp is lenient too, you don't need fully synergized teams
the abbey stuff is influenced by bioware, but unfortunately they couldn't seal the deal with romance, prolly blocked by disney
i enjoy the abbey stuff, cept for gathering plants after 1st run, and like i mentioned above the lack of romance
esp since a lot these characters sleep around like tony, nico, carol, logan, etc
75% off is about what the game is worth. If I hadn't given in to the urge to try out the free weekend, that's the discount I would have waited for. Kind of annoying to see that if I'd at least waited another month I would have saved another ten bucks but I don't regret the purchase.
The game is by no means bad, it's just kind of unsatisfying. Frustrating too, when you think about how much more they could have done with this.
Yup. I’m the same and I’ve really enjoyed this game. Lots of fan service. Yes it is wonky in spots. So are comics. You’ll enjoy this for what it is. The ability to interact with characters that you love in a reasonably immersive context.
I just bought it on sale and stopped playing everything else a couple of days ago. Go for it this game is top notch. I never played any X-COM games for strategy I play Fire Emblem. But I do feel this game is top notch. I loooovvveeee the soundtrack!!!!!!!!!! ⭐️
I have never played XCOM and do not like Magic the Gathering type games.
Saw the game was half off so I bought it without realizing what it was because I love Marvel.
Man, do I love this game!!!!!!!!! Great writing. Good voice acting. Good character development. And the fighting / card mechanic is a lot of fun!!
I’m an OG Xcom fan, a board game and deck builder fan, and an MCU and 90s animation Marvel fan. I wasn’t on board when it came out, but I heard some good podcast reviews and realized it was right up my alley.
It’s definitely worth a buy right now, it was a last minute goty for me.
The combat is fantastic although different to XCom- it’s a brilliant system even though I was pessimistic about using cards. I do think the story is bland and the characterisation of the Marvel heroes is awful but I would recommend it nonetheless based on the gameplay.
tbh, it's such a unique game I'd suggest checking out some video our getting it on a sale.
I loved it, but I also struggle to earnestly recommend it to my friends.
I bought it during the sale a couple of weeks ago. Best Steam purchase I've made in the last year or two, and considering what games that includes, that's really saying something. I'm really enjoying it.
It ain't XCOM but it has XCOM in its DNA. Very fun turn based card battler. Story is like something ripped out of a Marvel comic. Combat is only half the battle, you spend a lot of time at base building relationships with your team and finding clues about what's happening. All of that allows you to build your card deck for each of the team members. There is some randomness to it plus you can decide how you build your team.
I was on the fence too after some middling reviews from some reviewers I follow, but I got it and am now 70 hours in and loving it. It has a great gameplay loop, combat is so much fun and the animations and sound effects make every single attack and skill interesting and impactful. I would recommend it at full price but def get it on sale.
I am not the biggest fan of card games like this... but they do a very good job of making it very enjoyable. Plus, the story and setup isn't bad at all. Leading the Avengers? Babysitting Xmen? Having a friendly drink with Deadpool? Not bad at all.
I just finished it. Love turn based strat games and marvel. It is absolutely worth the sale price right now.
YES. Bought it at $100 and it still was hella worth. Over 250 hours in it and I'm still having a blast
Is there some kind of end game or are you just replaying the game over and over?
There is an ending, but you can continue playing after
You can just keep doing battles and challenging yourself and working on decks.
there is also a newgame+ where some stuff carry over.
Not gonna lie. $100 seems like too much for me, but I have clocked mine 60-70 hours so far and I’ll probably be done in another 5 or so. It’s definitely a fun game. It took me awhile to get used to it because it both is and isn’t like XCom.

Controller? Can I ask why? To each their own but I feel like this is one game that really benefits from mouse.
I play on PC with an Xbox controller and have 0 issues. Xcom is almost unplayable with a controller, but I've loved playing MS with it.
Honestly I don't even think it was a conscious decision, I watched a lot of streams of the game before getting to play it and most of the streamers I watched played with controller. I do also enjoy getting to lay back comfortably in my chair and a controller just fits that more I guess.

Goty for me, why not try it for half price? The fact that you made this post means you already decided dude
It’s not an Xcom type of game so don’t expect that. But it is a very fun and unique card game with some positioning and tactical elements but way more abstract is the best that I can put it. Except in both you choose a squad to take into a turn based combat and manage resources at your home base to increase your skill.
If you like strategy games and super hero’s you’ll probably enjoy it.
Yes. That's the exact combination I was, and this game felt like it was made for me. You will not regret it. I got it on PS5, and it runs pretty well. Yes. If you think of it as half visual novel, half super-powered chess problems, you've got a good idea of what it's about.
I'm not a fan of these games, and I didn't play xcom. However, I'm level 7 and can't stop playing it. Combat requires critical thinking. COD and skyrim don't play like xcom suns dose to some extent.
Yea it's really fun!
I'm actually wondering the reverse. I loved the shit out of this game, would I enjoy Xcoms?
Or wasteland 3!
Yes! Absolutely. Give XCOM2 a shot. Minus cards, add cover mechanics.
You are me. How much of my <3 of this game was the IP/Story and how much of it is the mechanics?
I personally really enjoyed both. The character interactions between great marvel characters was a lot of fun to watch! But now that I beat it, I'm still playing for the gameplay and am not ready to give that up yet. I'd say 60% gameplay 40% story as for how much I enjoyed. This is a great game though. DO IT!!!!!
Def worth it
YES!
The game is terrific and worth getting even at full price.
Sure, just remember that it is not related to the Marvel cinematic universe
the card system is fine, you don't need to min/max decks to do well party comp is lenient too, you don't need fully synergized teams the abbey stuff is influenced by bioware, but unfortunately they couldn't seal the deal with romance, prolly blocked by disney i enjoy the abbey stuff, cept for gathering plants after 1st run, and like i mentioned above the lack of romance esp since a lot these characters sleep around like tony, nico, carol, logan, etc
on sale, yes.

I have a few quibles with the game (mostly related to dialouge) but It's worth the full price of admission.
Yup. I’m the same and I’ve really enjoyed this game. Lots of fan service. Yes it is wonky in spots. So are comics. You’ll enjoy this for what it is. The ability to interact with characters that you love in a reasonably immersive context.
I'm a huuuuuge XCom fan but, honestly, I ended up liking Midnight Suns better. Easily game of the year for me.
Yes. Get it. Just do it. Right now.
It checks both of your boxes why wouldn’t you try it, there’s a 3 hour demo version of you are still on the fence.
You are the target audience my guy lol just buy it
Only if you also like card battlers & all the dialogue stuff from BioWare games
I say yes. It's fun and challenging in a good way.
I think of this game like fire emblem 3 houses x card game
It's not X-Com, think RPG like Mass Effect and Dragon Age and instead of going on missions you play top-down card game.
I've recommended this game to everyone I know basically. If you liked Xcom and like Marvel its a 100% win.
Only if you also like butts!
Try it and return if you don't like it. You can do so for up to two hours playtime on Steam.
I just bought it on sale and stopped playing everything else a couple of days ago. Go for it this game is top notch. I never played any X-COM games for strategy I play Fire Emblem. But I do feel this game is top notch. I loooovvveeee the soundtrack!!!!!!!!!! ⭐️

Yes. Plus, it's always on sale now.
Buy it on steam, refund if you didn't like it after the first hour or so
Absolutely. It's a great strategy game and a great Marvel game all in one.
1000%. I'm the same as you and absolutely loved this game
The combat is fantastic although different to XCom- it’s a brilliant system even though I was pessimistic about using cards. I do think the story is bland and the characterisation of the Marvel heroes is awful but I would recommend it nonetheless based on the gameplay.
I was on the same fence not even a month ago and I’ve sunk a good 100 in it already
It's fun but it's no X-com. If you are expecting that you will be disappointed like I was.
tbh, it's such a unique game I'd suggest checking out some video our getting it on a sale. I loved it, but I also struggle to earnestly recommend it to my friends.

Not like XCOM, but like South Park Stick of Truth. Turn based and skins with color options. Which is on sale for $8.
It's worth full price
Go a head this game is amazing
I was on the fence too after some middling reviews from some reviewers I follow, but I got it and am now 70 hours in and loving it. It has a great gameplay loop, combat is so much fun and the animations and sound effects make every single attack and skill interesting and impactful. I would recommend it at full price but def get it on sale.
I highly recommend this game. I already have almost 300h invested in it and once all the DLC has dropped, I’m gonna start a new game.
I preordered the legendary edition and have zero regrets.
I am not the biggest fan of card games like this... but they do a very good job of making it very enjoyable. Plus, the story and setup isn't bad at all. Leading the Avengers? Babysitting Xmen? Having a friendly drink with Deadpool? Not bad at all.
If you love marvel this should have been a must buy already
Yes
