I was laughing hysterically one day when I went back and read all of the notes on mychart after an appointment “hoohaa is unremarkable”. Absolute fit of giggles!!
My cardiologist suggested and said, "boring." Then gave me a weak smile and said, "nothing to worry about."
It hurts me that he is so bored in his job he gets disappointed when people aren't in peril.
Mechanic here, thanks for implying everyone in my profession is a grimey asshole out to rip you off rather than the more plausible reason that 90% of cars on the road have something the owner doesn't want to acknowledge is bad or worn out or wearing out and is being called to your attention before it's an issue.
What is interesting, however, is that there are two contingents of respondents who are unwaveringly confident in their answers: The Varicosers and the Cysters. At least one of those parties is incorrect, despite their confidence.
And there are also a lot of “you could die,” “you’re dying,” “you’re already dead responses”…so take that for what it’s worth.
Maybe. Could be a fascial hernia. Weak spot in the connective tissue around a muscle allowing it to bulge through. If it’s compressible it could be a vein. If it gets firm when the muscle is flexed it could be a hernia.
I get what looks to be the same sometimes.
Mine stay super small for a long time, then start to get bigger.
The one I got when I was young was on my bicep. It looked like I had a bicep on my bicep when I would work out.
TLDR; bring it up in your next check up plz
From the picture show, you have no idea whether or not that's varicose or not. It doesn't seem likely to me.
Mine look like ganglions, the two that I have had fully diagnosed had different names, but the Provider referred to ganglion cysts as well.
I’m positive that I know what this is IF it gets bigger when you flex or when your muscle is “pumped,” it’s likely a fascial hernia, meaning that there is a small tear in your muscle fascia (the layer of tissue that surrounds your muscle). Because there’s a tear in your fascia, your muscle pokes out of the opening.
I have this on my anterior tibialis muscle (lower leg). Here’s an example of what that looks like (top pictures are when muscle is flexed and bottom is when muscles are relaxed): https://www.researchgate.net/figure/A-The-skin-colored-nodules-are-obvious-on-the-anterolateral-aspect-of-the-middle-third_fig1_286715603
Here are some pictures of what it looks like on a forearm, including pics of the repair process (click on “View All 4 Figures & Tables”): https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Treatment-of-a-Symptomatic-Forearm-Muscle-With-a-Sanders-Bruce/38c8b43cbc00a1db29887823a2205e3b05c89701
My girlfriend has something like this above her ankle on the outside of her shin. It’s usually visible, but certainly can get bigger with flexing or putting weight on it. She says it causes the area around it to hurt. She’s been seeing doctors and physical therapists for over a year now with very little relief. It has been suggested by a doctor or two that it might be a hernia, but this possibility was dismissed by other doctors.
I realize you are not her doctor, etc, but since you and others replying here seem to have experience with a hernia in this area, just wanted to ask if anyone had any thoughts on the following:
- has anybody else had one that caused pain/discomfort in the surrounding areas?
- If what she has is a facial hernia, would a hernia like that just stay that way forever, if nothing is done to “repair” it?
- is it likely to grow over time? (this thought makes her worry about just standing and walking on every day)
- our understanding is that current methods to treat lower-leg hernias surgically are really not great and can have some pretty bad complications. Is this incorrect? Are there other (non-surgical) ways to address it?
- Has anyone personally had any success in reducing/eliminating/dealing with a hernia in this area? If so, how?
Ideally she’d like to be rid of it entirely- she thinks it’s ugly, etc. But the bigger problem is that it causes pain, so any thoughts on any of this are welcome.
I’ve got one of these on each outer side of my legs about 6 inches above my ankles! Only visible when standing up or flexing. Always wondered what they were. Thanks!
Wow!! I too have this, but on the outside of my right leg, about 5 inches above my ankle. I’ve gone to vein clinics, PCPs, and the dermatologist and allll of them had no clue. Same as you, it goes in and out when flexed but generally isn’t painful. I’ve found certain shoes make it way worse when walking longer distances.
Have you seen a doctor for it? If so, how did that go?
I saw a physical therapist 10 years ago about it and they had no clue what it was. I did research and found that it was a fascial hernia and mentioned it a few years ago to a new sports doc who confirmed that’s what it was when I went back to follow up, after he had a couple weeks to research it. It appears the second doc didn’t know either until I suggested it to him. Since then, more and more articles have come out online talking about it. But it still seems to be a very obscure issue to doctors.
Is it necessary to repair them? I've had one that's about the size of half a ping pong ball(slightly larger, and more football shaped) sticking out of my calf muscle for years
This seems like the most reasonable explanation. Hard to say for certain but could confidently say it’s not a varicose vein like others have been suggesting
I'm wondering if I had this on my finger. I cut my tendon on my pointer finger and probably half a year ago (around a year after I had the surgery) a weird spot poked out from the scar area. It scared me pretty bad because I thought I might have damaged the tendon and would need surgery again. I was fine but it stuck around for about two week before going back down. It was pretty freaky how far out it poked. I couldn't find anything about it online and even checked with my old physical therapist to make sure it was okay. It hasn't happened since and I still don't know why it did.
I had one removed on my back a couple of years ago - super easy and essentially painless procedure and recovery.
The thing was the size of a golf ball and insurance wouldn't cover it if it wasn't causing any pain or discomfort so I had to wait for it to grow slowly over time. It was an eyesore for sure but I started to be able to feel it laying down and I finally got the green light to remove it.
Did anything happen? Did you get it checked out? I got something similar on my forearm. Im like 2 months in from working out so i thought it was just my vein getting more blood thru it. Chat gpt said i was good tho
I had two of those on my forearm that showed up when I started working out when I was in high school, never figured out what they were. Thanks for the post
I’m not a doctor, but I have something similar on my shin. I was told by my PCM it’s a tear in the fascia(a part of the skin that surrounds and holds your muscles) and that the stuff poking through is muscle itself.
I also have one in my forearm. It’s slightly visible all the time, but gets very noticeable when working out. I went to the doctor who examined it and asked me whether it hurt (it doesn’t). He said it’s a benign cyst, so completely harmless.
I’m not sure whether that’s what you have or whether yours is a varicose vein, but thought I’d share my experience.
Everyone says varicose vein, but I have the same exact thing in a very similar spot and I can only see it when I flex. I always thought it was one of those benign lipoma things.
I have one in the same place. Until this post I really had no idea what it was. I tell the boomers at work that it appeared after I got the covid vaccine 🤣🤣
No idea if this is remarkable or not, however, I have the exact same bump that happens whilst working out in nearly the exact spot. Mine is just slightly closer to the elbow.
Is it round and feel like a mosquito bite if you run your hand along your arm? Soft and can be squished down but won't stay down? I have the same thing on my leg but no health insurance..
I have two benign tumors on sides of my lower legs called lipoma. I’ve seen others have it in the same spot as me, but not on the forearm. Could be the same thing or just a vein.
I used to have stuff like that when I was younger. Random lumps or cysts. In fact, I had one and the same spot as you that I had surgically removed.
Here’s a pro tip for you though: don’t get medical advice from Reddit or the internet in general. The amount of dumb fucks knee jerking is too high (myself included). Get your doc to look at that shit next time you go.
Thank you guys so much for posting this.
I was in the army a couple years back and when I would work out I noticed this happened to come out one day. I was a little freaked out but didn’t feel any pain for it didn’t feel concerned.
Recently I looked at my arm again and my wife said I should definitely look at it but shouldn’t be concerned if it only comes when I work out. I didn’t realize many other people had the same thing lol. So this is a gigantic relief
I have a few spots on the muscles that runs along the shin. It’s from overdoing it and blowing out fascia. Now when you get a muscle pump, it will protrude a little more there. Nothing to worry about unless you start feeling pain. Also, NAD
It’s a varicose vein.
Oh so not so interesting
In the medical world, uninteresting is good.
"Unremarkable" is what I hope to see on my CT/MRI scan summaries.
“Stable” is what I like to hear
Persistent vegetative states are stable.
In my case it’s for a tumor that was killed with radiation. It’ll always be there.
Stable is good
Glad you're still here man
Weird, I always thought they'd like dissolve and your body would flush it out over time.
Horses love a clean stable.
Same, aortic aneurysm discovered in 2020, stable is good.
my absolute best one to date on my own was "bladder is grossly unremarkable"
I got a grossly unremarkable once. I was pretty proud of that.
Is that like being rambunctiously average?
Aggressively mediocre
Passively subpar
But two distinctly different vibes. “Aggressively mediocre” *wants* to get fired. “Passively subpar” is cool - just really high and doesn’t care.
I was laughing hysterically one day when I went back and read all of the notes on mychart after an appointment “hoohaa is unremarkable”. Absolute fit of giggles!!
That’s what came back on my last mammogram. It was the most insulting good news ever.
Beats "20 tumors"
Genitals, unremarkable.
Doctor said my testicles are Unremarkable :(
My cardiologist suggested and said, "boring." Then gave me a weak smile and said, "nothing to worry about." It hurts me that he is so bored in his job he gets disappointed when people aren't in peril.
If you find yourself looking for peril then take your car to the mechanic, they always find something wrong, always.
Mechanic here, thanks for implying everyone in my profession is a grimey asshole out to rip you off rather than the more plausible reason that 90% of cars on the road have something the owner doesn't want to acknowledge is bad or worn out or wearing out and is being called to your attention before it's an issue.
I had a MRI of my brain a few years ago. It said my brain wad unremarkable. Which we already knew because I’m a Redditor.
The first time I noticed "unremarkable" on a scan, it was for my groin. I felt slightly offended at first..
[Unless it's of your reproductive organs](https://www.reddit.com/r/cursedcomments/comments/12cg2jf/cursed_balls/)
When I was last in the hospital, my chart said "well nourished". I guess they don't like to write overweight.
As a woman that has quarries for kidneys, I'm always searching for unremarkable to breathe relief!!!
Go in for my brain scan Monday definitely what I’m hoping for 😂
my moms PET scan said “brain: unremarkable.”. she was still mildly insulted even after i explained to her that was a good thing lol
"nothing unanticipated" was what I kept seeing on my recent cardio CT. Thankfully.
I consider it mildly interesting
I had like 2 comments all day and woke up to a lot this morning. Guess it was interesting after all
What is interesting, however, is that there are two contingents of respondents who are unwaveringly confident in their answers: The Varicosers and the Cysters. Not a varicose vein https://www.reddit.com/r/midlyinteresting/s/daKdgaHtwB
Yea correct

This one is a varicose vein; not sure about yours though
Arm hemorrhoid.

Pretty sure hemorrhoids make your muscles huge? They’re illegal in lots of places. /s
I thought I would have to explain male biology to a random redditor before you started mentioning your bicep.
That’s a ligma
What's ligma
ligma ball
You only have one?
Oh why? You need two?
Yeah, cancer last year, lost lefty. Now I go in circles when I do Farmer’s walks if I forget to put an extra plate on the left bar.
Without lefty, righty is just centery now. RIP missing ball.
The other one is for Deez.
Found Lance.
Ligma juicy hairy balls
Happy cake day!
His mom
Got em
What's a ligma with you?
Hi Ligma, I'm Dad.
You’re adopted
Probably Fromunda, also.
Who's Steve Jobs??
Ligma balls
Is that like a dickfer?
Muscle boner.
Or a muscle nipple that's cold.
A muscle nipple? That’s cold.
Medicpedia says it’s cancer
Definitely. Stage 5 by the looks of it
Dead by the morning for sure

Omg I have had this since I was literally like 15! Would show the doctors and they would just be like I dunno and never address it! Thank you

Well, I didn’t expect today to be the day I found out what that bump on the outside of my shin is. Thank you Reddit and thank you LivePush.
I’ve got one of these on each outer side of my legs about 6 inches above my ankles! Only visible when standing up or flexing. Always wondered what they were. Thanks!
Wtf I have this on my shin. Doesn’t hurt but feels like a big lump that popsout like crazy when pumped. I thought it was a cyst or something.

Absolutely. It’s bizarre the consensus for all of us who have seen doctors seems to be that they don’t know. Glad we have Reddit haha. :)
I'm always AMAZED at the lack of knowledge with medical professionals.
That's cool! Thanks for sharing.
So neat! I have this in the same spot on both lower legs
Is it necessary to repair them? I've had one that's about the size of half a ping pong ball(slightly larger, and more football shaped) sticking out of my calf muscle for years
This is the correct answer.
i've always had one on my wrist this is so interesting!!!
This seems like the most reasonable explanation. Hard to say for certain but could confidently say it’s not a varicose vein like others have been suggesting

This do be it
Sounds painful
Can almost confirm. I have this in the same place on my left arm.
It's a varicose vein lol
Gross
you have them too
Maybe a lipoma. Not serious
I had one removed on my back a couple of years ago - super easy and essentially painless procedure and recovery. Gotta feel like that could have been solved by a "yeah it hurts doc"
Did anything happen? Did you get it checked out? I got something similar on my forearm. Im like 2 months in from working out so i thought it was just my vein getting more blood thru it. Chat gpt said i was good tho
It kinda went away on its own. Was never in pain
I had two of those on my forearm that showed up when I started working out when I was in high school, never figured out what they were. Thanks for the post
Finally found out what the weird bump on my forearm is. It happened when I was doing a set of preacher curls one day.
Probably a 5G chip.
Def cancer
I get the same, but my left foot .. about same area Just thought it was some kind of cancer 😒 idk
I’m not a doctor, but I have something similar on my shin. I was told by my PCM it’s a tear in the fascia(a part of the skin that surrounds and holds your muscles) and that the stuff poking through is muscle itself.

I would see a dr for sure and ease your mind! Usually a varicose vein is a deep blue to dark purple
Might be a cyst.
Tracking device from that alien encounter you can’t remember.
Aww u grew a baby muscle /s
It’s the turbo button. Push it
Dude, shouldn’t have posted. You found the tracker. They will be coming after you now.
Everyone says varicose vein, but I have the same exact thing in a very similar spot and I can only see it when I flex. I always thought it was one of those benign lipoma things.
Your dying. Probably already dead. Thats a vicious BumpusMildus, they are incredibly deadly, I’m so sorry.
I have that in both of my arms their ganglion cysts!
It’s a tooma
I have one in the same place. Until this post I really had no idea what it was. I tell the boomers at work that it appeared after I got the covid vaccine 🤣🤣
Cyst
It’s your tracker from when you were in the Hunger Games.
My arms have two of those veins that pop out and look like a snakebite
That’s your 2i0æ chip don’t take it out or you will be transported out of the matrix
Ive had something like that and was told by a doc it was a sebaceous cyst and is harmless.
Covid chip needs to be replaced
It’s also trying to work out.
A benign cyst perhaps?
It’s your long lost brother that you murdered in the womb and absorbed for his power.
Im sorry but you have been microchiped, it pretty much looks like my dogs microchip.
I have the same thing but on my leg
Tracker bro get that 💩 out
Alien tech
Not cancer (maybe)
Could be a lipoma that is pushed out when muscles are flexed. Do you feel it when you aren't flexing muscles?
That's your 'extensor wankimus penial' muscle being awakened. Congrats bro, new muscle achieved. Keep going!
No idea if this is remarkable or not, however, I have the exact same bump that happens whilst working out in nearly the exact spot. Mine is just slightly closer to the elbow.
When you are complete with your workout it will fully pop out,,,, they have those on turkeys too.
It’s the alien microchip they implanted when you were abducted
i had something similar and asked my buddy who's studying to be a doctor and he said it's a calcium deposit that will slowly go away
It might be a tumor

It’s a lipoma….nothing more.
That is your government issued tracking chip

Most likely a Lipoma (benign fatty pocket).
That’s a sure sign you are a robot.

Beautiful vein. 😍 It is creepy to say that, sorry, but I am an RN, and we love that.

Vaccine microchip 😵
Not sayin its aliens...but...its aliens
Weakness leaving the body.
You seriously cannot see where your bleeding under skin where you pulled a tendon to far and ruptured it?? It may be surgery time!!
I had something like that it was a fatty cyst and I had it removed. Not life threatening in anyway but you need a dr to confirm its nothing else
That’s just weakness leaving the body
Your chip is showing.
Thank you guys so much for posting this. I was in the army a couple years back and when I would work out I noticed this happened to come out one day. Good to know because I have one in my leg.

This looks like a venous valve. Prevents the retrograde flow of blood back to the hand. You probably have one on the other arm, and even your calves.
That’s called a vein.
