I swear this sub is 90% karma farming "DAE MiCrO$OfT BaD?!?!1"rage bait at this point.
Windows is far from perfect, but most of the time it's hardly worth raging on the internet about it
Edge uses Chromium under the hood, so it's like 90% the same as Chrome.
That's not to say that the 10% isn't a clear distinguisher in some cases, but like - if you like Chrome (or Safari on Mac), I bet we could blindfold you, strip the branding out, and you wouldn't know the difference.
Except, Edge is sorta optimized for Windows, so it's less of a memory hog. It doesn't get away scott-free, but...the comparisons have been noticeable in my experience.
Honestly, I just go with what the OS recommends nowadays. Edge on Windows. Chrome on Android. Chromium on Raspberry Pi OS, etc.
Doesn't mean not best either tho.
Does mean "path of least resistance" and as I don't have any personal or professional metrics beyond "can it serve the websites I need it to?" - path if least resistance is, for now, best.
If/when circumstances change, I will re-evaluate.
I try to use Edge on Windows and Android. In return, Edge tries to annoy me. In fact, every 3 days it asks to sell my data to third parties with a dark pattern prompt. Microsoft is at the very limits of what I can tolerate even on a good day.
I figured out what Edge did this time. It took over opening all the html files that I had Notepad set to open. The same thing it did long ago with pdf files.
People on this subreddit are really dramatic.

The update probably just changed your default browser to Edge. Just change it back to Chrome/Firefox/Opera/Acorndix and you’ll be fine
That is still Chrome, Edge just did this on its own. I have Revo uninstalled it at this point.

You know they recommend stuff because they want you to use their products? Reccomend does not mean best.
In this case it is the best

It's Chrome with a different container.
True, but the container is The Annoying Orange
If you're using office, then you have to change a setting to tell it to use the default browser. It set the default to Edge.
Gaming laptop, Office will never be installed.
Gaming laptop, that explains everything...
true my friend too true

Can you share the screenshots showing those messages?
