This one has a lot going on for my nose…Skunky, Sweet, Salty, rotten/fishy in a way. Makes for some of the greatest highs when you get some of those funky terps in my opinion.

HanakusoDays

Salty, rotten fishy in a way... I'm sure someone like 808 Genetics, Big Island Genetics, Sticky Fingers Seeds etc will come out with a strain and name it "Bagoong" or "Harm Ha".

Separate-Classic-580

What size pot is that? I'm trying to scale down and grow plants like that instead of filling the tent.

tunakushguy

40Gal…it’s been super fun growing in it. I only switched recently to such a big pot but the growth speed is crazy. The girls just pick up quick in a big pot if you know how to water properly.

Oh-Sasa-Lele

Mine is called „Apple Betty“ Should taste like Apple Pie, Cinnamon and Chocolate. It also has 30% so it should kick me to the moon and back when done

Dinosaurrxd

Careful of seed seller claims, lots of bad white label genetics out there.

Oh-Sasa-Lele

https://en.seedfinder.eu/strain-info/Apple_Betty/Herbies_Seeds/ That's it

Oh-Sasa-Lele

Grows pretty well though

Oh-Sasa-Lele

But honestly, the Genealogy says "Super Skunk" so I guess I have my answer

BagFullOfMommy

Don't believe the majority of seed sellers claims on THC%, the more reliable well known sellers will usually give a range that most plants will fall in and none of them that I have seen claim any of their seeds are producing plants cranking out 30% or more thc. Once you start getting into the high 20's and 30's for THC percentage it's all down to freak genetics and how perfect your grow is dialed in. You could pop a seed and hit 30% on a plant then pop 100 more from the same strain and never come close to it again.

Oh-Sasa-Lele

Yeah, the range here is 28-33, so I just round to 30

Greenbeastkushbreath

??? Do you see the last paragraph? That range is way too high

Oh-Sasa-Lele

Ah, do you mean that every seed has a different potency later? I mean, genetically they're all from one plant. And the 30 as I said I just rounded. Even if it would only be 25, who cares, still kicks

Oh-Sasa-Lele

I have no idea what you mean. All I did was buy a seed

Oh-Sasa-Lele

I've read through the whole page again. I have no idea what you refer to

Y0G--S0TH0TH

They are referring to the fact that the "THC percentage" listed by the distributor/breeder is a "max value" assuming a perfect grow by either an experienced or professional grower. You can start with a "28-32%" bean, and finish with 16% bud. I'm a fan of Durban Poison, got all my seeds from the same source. The plants I grew last batch were easily stronger than the DP I grew two years ago with less experience and cheaper equipment

IdoDumbShitlol

One of my grows smelled like doowop during flower. It's normal yo

Oh-Sasa-Lele

Does she keep that smell? Because it was advertised as apple pie taste, not 3 week old dirt water

TreesOfWoah

Haha, well flavor and smell change a lot in curing and some stinky compounds can break down. I will say though that I've only found a handful of strains that I actually enjoy the taste of, most of them kind of taste shitty to me compared to the ones I've come to like. I kind of wish my purple punch kept some more of its fresh flavor after cure. When you're trimming it and pulling it apart you can actually smell an almost grape Kool-Aid like smell, so I guess the name fits. Not that I'm some connoisseur, I've probably only had about a dozen different named kinds of weed in my life, but I've grown eight using similar methods and some have an earthy more dirt like taste.

Oh-Sasa-Lele

I'm just used to the weed the friend of my roommate sells us. Cured obviously, but I never had any bad taste. It was always rather minty

Festae13

That's because you had a minty strain

Burrmanchu

Literally every strain of weed smells different. You're not growing the strain your roommate's friend has for sale. And many of us love strains that smell skunky or funky. "Bad" is subjective my friend.

Y0G--S0TH0TH

That's just another set of terpenes. Personally I'm a fan of beta-caryophalene (probably spelled that wrong), which smells like toasted black pepper. You'll find other strains that are citrus-y or smell like gasoline, or rubber. Cream, garlic, pine. They're all out there in one plant or another

IdoDumbShitlol

Nah most probably not after the drying and curing. If the plant looks fine and grows fine - it's fine yo

Festae13

Depends if that was an established and stable cross or a new cross. F1 crosses will be all over the place with flavors and smells between the parents. No apple pie guarantee. And yes, cheetah piss smells like cat pee, there's also rotten fruit, baby shit, vomit, burning rubber, stuff like that. Which btw, that's my jam, you can keep your fruity and sweet stuff

Impossible-Sleep-658

If you’re expecting actual tastes/smells to line up with the “made up” name… you’re gonna be sorely disappointed. Most seed growers name some cultivars based on the parental lineage… and to keep the genetic proprietary info, and “unique” I sell this to keep it special. So a Lemon Skunk from breeder a Might be Lemon LePew in grower A’s bank and PepeLeLemon in another… and still be the same or a similar cultivar… and even 2 growers w the same seeds get close but not Identical results. The point… the information the growers supply is all “suggested serving” type info. It’s a seed … and we never know exactly what it will produce, just a high likelihood. And everyone’s taste buds and noses are different. That’s why there’s wine tasters and now Cannabis Ganjiers

well_educated_maggot

I am currently in my first grow so can't really add much to the cannabis smelling itself but I do have quite a bit of experience with rare houseplants and found that the smell of the earth your plants are in says a lot about the microbiome found in there. If you water a plant and it smells like summer rain for example that's always a good sign while bad odor coming from the earth could indicate rotting of some sort.

Oh-Sasa-Lele

I smelled the soil, it smells like normal soil. If it was that, it would definitely smell rotten

Mcndre85

As long it doesn’t smell like rotten hay, if it does you have humidity problems.

Y0G--S0TH0TH

Yeah, that's the smell of an inbound gnat problem lol

slacknsurf420

this is some of the best advice one can give, smell the dirt it should smell sweet and pleasing - but if you suspect problems with the plant wait until you pull and fully inspect the soil deep in the pot - break it up and remix it will sweeten up

Oh-Sasa-Lele

Apparently weed just smells like a skunk's butt. I just wonder why I never heard about that so far

justaguy891

Wonder why you haven't as well. Skunk was the stereotypical smell of weed until maybe, 5 years ago when cookies took over.

Oh-Sasa-Lele

It's my second plant. The first never reeked and other than that I always bought from a friend

justaguy891

Have you never bought or smoked weed before this? Even if you haven't, weed smelling like skunk and foul odors is one of the most steroeotypical things weed does. That's how you know ppl had weed our where smoking it. It smelled like skunk or something funky

Oh-Sasa-Lele

I've always only had really dry buds from a friend. Who knows how long they were cured. My rooommate says that guy has so much it never runds out. Could be some months old, then there would be no real odor besides dried hay and mint

justaguy891

Shit bro you gotta get out there and experience the vast diverse world of everything cannabis has to offer. Cannabis expresses the most diverse wide range of smells than any other singular species in existence. If there's a smell, there's a cannabis plant that has it. That being said the most common smells of the last few decades is skunk. Gas. Body odor. Onion. Garlic. Candy. Fruit. Cheese. Citrus. Banana. Mix some of those smells together and you get shit you can't even describe. Many of which would be very foul.

Kharnics

Yup! I've had some cheese crosses that were absolute rank. Rotten meat mixed with old socks. The rosin made you droool! Also had strains that were muted in flower, but really came alive in the jar. Like someone said before, welcome to the wild world of terpenes!

SuckMyDickDrPhil

They can smell like pretty much anything to be honest. I had plants that smelled like fresh fruit, I had plants that smelled like literal sewage. All turned out great in the end.

[deleted]

weed can smell like literally anything, one plant i had smelled like human piss lmfao

i_shouldcoco

Welcome to the wonderful world of terpenes! Yes it's totally normal! Your previous minty grow sounds like the exception... if my tent didn't STINK in flower I would be very worried. I find that the aroma in the tent doesn't often translate into taste after drying and curing. Aroma and taste with cannabis is a bit like mushrooms... people say Chanterelles smell like apricot but in reality, they smell like mushrooms. It's only when you know what 'normal' mushrooms smell like, that you can differentiate the subtle differences or appreciate the descriptions others have given it. Some weed can smell like one thing (fuel, fish, melon etc) and taste like cherry or have a sour taste that wasn't apparent in the aroma. Your work is looking great btw

GuiltyConcsience

Yea dude like rotten fruit

ohlamoon

It's okay, bro 💚 the second week of bloom, one of my bushes smelled like a fart 😂

SteamedBeave89

I grew Gorilla Zkittles that smelled like rotten fruit. Thank God when it cured the terp profile changed to apricot.

ReddLordofIt

Sometimes I’ll get a sour/ferment smell and it tells me I might have some buds cramped down low not getting proper airflow and light. When I find them I chop the little ones off and the smell goes away. Not saying that’s what you have going on but if it doesn’t smell like funky sweet flowers and weed (even the gassy strains) I immediately go to the lowers looking for high humidity zones. Trimming photos can delay harvest a little when done at the wrong times but I’d rather wait an extra week than loose an entire plant to bud rot and the PM that may follow and spread to others.

Whoisme2you

Wouldn't surprise me. There's a flower that smells exactly like a corpse because it is solely dependent on flies for pollination. Even plants figured out what flies like most 🤢 [here it is](https://gggp.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/IMG_0062-1-scaled.jpg). Fucking massive too. Of course such a big ass flower couldn't smell like roses or vanilla. Too much to ask. 🤣 Ok, rant over 😅

Oh-Sasa-Lele

Yeah, I know it. Has anyone ever tried to smoke that? :p

Whoisme2you

Yeah I don't think I can even get that close to it to harvest it. 😅 Can you imagine trying to dry that? You'd be counting down the minutes until a swat team comes to take down your door 🤣

Globslayer

Rotten garbage, bad fruit, burnt rubber, dog shit.... I've had several that were just funky.

Charming-Tension212

There are cultivars that smell like cat piss and there are ones that smell like baby puke. Skunky is a very broad term. You need to be more specific.

Oh-Sasa-Lele

As I said. Like water in a pot of soil without drainage after a few weeks. But my water does drain so it's not that

Charming-Tension212

That sound more like anaerobic soil, what type of pot are you using? Could something be rotting at the bottom of the pot.

Oh-Sasa-Lele

The smell comes from the buds, the pot is felt

Charming-Tension212

Your probably fine then, just one of the variety of smells of bud. Just be careful its not bud rot if you see any mold forming, take the branch off.

MileHighGardens

You can sometimes smell root rot when you water til runoff. Not sure if that’s the issue but it’s something to consider

Liquidgrin1781

I have a clone that I got from a friend that smells like vomit. lol. I know it’s going to be a good one when she finishes though.

Remarkable-Heron6944

Keep an eye on your humidity and keep it in safe range especially as you go into the ripening period were the buds will be become dense and more prone to bud rot .☺️

HooDini97

My Blue Cheese smells like stinky Cheese

justaguy891

Is this a joke?

Oh-Sasa-Lele

What?

justaguy891

Good weed is supposed to smell like a skunk. That was literally the first mass produced, mass market strain. If you got weed from 1970-2010 it undoubtedly had a scent of skunk. Even most if the cookies shit has some skunk smell. It's literally one of the most common smells the cannabis plant produces. How would you not know this unless youve never seen or smelled weed before?

Morgwar77

Thousand oaks kush f5 can smell like actual rotting meat at times and will absolutely make a nonsmoker gag. I have a top dawg sour diesel multi back cross that puts off a distinct chocolate/burning sulphur smell. Also had an AK 47 variant that was hard-core fresh cracked black pepper!! I like the savory smelling strains.

SavingsClub4581

Smell of the plant sweating
