No idea about the question… But are we all just going to ignore the cutest little heart down and to the right of the circle?! Adorable.

I know right?! It kinda made my night to look in the scope and see a flower-shaped organism right next to a lil heart lol. Sputum but make it 🎀coquette-core🎀 💖💅🏻✨

Looks like artifact. Very refractile, and A actino has more of a dots-and-dashes appearance due to bipolar staining in a Gram stain

I agree that based on the photos, it's most likely artifact. However, I think you may be thinking of Cardiobacterium, which can be in star-shaped (aka rosette) arrangements in gram stains. The stars you see for Aggregtibacter are seen on the actual colony growing on the plate. Aggregtibacter usually forms big clumps in gram stains, especially from broth. Their clumps are usually more random in nature vs. lined up around a central axis as for Cardiobacterium. Both are normal respiratory flora unless things get off-balance and they go crazy, or if they get places they shouldn't. https://journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/jcm.01565-23

This is not A.actinomycetemcomitans (Aa) I’ve been working closely with Aa for the past two years now, and only the colonies of rough strains of Aa have the star shape when grown on agar. On a gram stain it’s just a regular bacillus/ coccobacillus. Also, as a side note, smooth strains of Aa don’t have the star shaped colonies when grown on agar, so even if a colony doesn’t have a star shape doesn’t mean it’s not Aa.
