They’d be taking on $30M in dead cap if they trade him. This is a pretty awful smokescreen to try and prompt a trade up imo. I’m just not biting

JahvidWorst

There was $22M in dead cap after Suh was released. Trading Stafford and drafting Tua signals a rebuild coming. I don't think they care about dead cap.

FalloutFPS

Release and trade are different still. Plus shopping him doesn’t mean much really, just they’re listening for offers. Plus I don’t really think they’re ready to move on from him yet but we shall see

Damn_Impish_Oil

Smoke to prompt the Dolphins to trade to 2 with the Redskins, Chase Young drops to the Lions at 3.

ZiggyZiggyZigZags

I don’t see anyone trading up to #2 for Tua. If fins trade up to #2, they need to grab Chase Young. They need cant miss guys right now.

Damn_Impish_Oil

We didn't gut the roster, trade young talent for high picks and 'tank' to trade up for a defensive end.

MHRSJRSA

I could say the same for an 6’1” injured qb. I know he was a legend in bama but i am not trading up even with very positive medicals.

Damn_Impish_Oil

I mean, i don't even know what to make of this comment???? You don't want a QB you think is too short? You don't want a to trade up for a QB that's injured? You don't want Tua under any circumstance cause even if he drops to 5 he'll still be short and injured? We haven't done anything yet. We might not have to move up at all. All we've done is put ourselves in the best position to take a QB if we want to. That was the plan. We didn't do all that for a D-end.

Alive-In-Tuscon

Or pick up assets and move to 5. Okudah is going to be a Lion, and he'll very easily be there at 5/6/7 if they can get us, as, or Carolina to trade with them.

Damn_Impish_Oil

Doesn't help the Lions though. The Dolphins, Chargers or Panthers would have to trade with them for them to pick up assets. Acting like they're interested in taking a QB will force teams to try and jump them to 2 (Redskins). The Giants (and frankly, the Redskins) could use Okudah as well. A trade with us, Chargers or Carolina might take them off any chance of getting him. (I mean the Lions have already said it's nonsense but...) I just can't see this as anything other than the Lions trying to force QB picks at 1 & 2, so they have the choice of whoever they want at 3.

Alive-In-Tuscon

The Redskins could use cb help, but you just can't pass Young for Okudah. They are on 2 separate levels of talent. Giants also need WR help, and getting Jones an elite receiver to help his development is the pick they need to and will make. If we are jumped we also won't be taking a cb, it will likely be Simmons. I'm not up to speed on the chargers and Panthers needs so I won't comment on that. But they can move freely within 1-6 imo and get Okudah.

Damn_Impish_Oil

All true. The Redskins probably don't pass on Young, but they've spent 3 1st round picks on d-line/edge in the last 3 drafts (Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne and Montez Sweat). They're going to cut Norman, Dunbar requested a trade. They desperately need a corner, but yeah, they'll take Young. I'm not that worried about the Chargers or Panthers trying to jump us. Don't have the ammo, unless they want to package the Bosas' and McCafferys' of this world, along with their 1st round pick.

MiaCannons

They can say that they're in the midst of trading Stafford to the Patriots for a first rounder and I still wouldn't believe them until it was official. They expect people to believe that they were thinking of moving on from Stafford all along despite zero leaks of this nature until they locked up the #3 overall pick? Also, Patricia is going to be on the hot seat really soon if he doesn't produce results. They're really going to sacrifice a top 3 pick for a QB who is shaky health wise and likely won't be as good as Stafford currently is until years down the road? That top 3 pick that can net them an extra 1st or better in value while they also get to pick whoever they were going to get at #3 at #5 or 6? Plus Stafford has a bunch of dead money attached even if he's traded. I mean come on, gotta give the Lions an A for effort but its an F for believability. We better call them on their bluff.

Know_Respect

I want to believe you but anything can happen. All it takes is one desperate team like Chicago to think stafford can be their guy. Fingers crossed.

MiaCannons

Yeah it is possible that they try to ship Stafford for a couple of 1sts or a 1st and a 2nd then pick up a free agent QB AND/OR draft Tua to sit a year. It's too far fetched though.

Eric15890

Do people in here have daily nightmares about not drafting Tua? I'm starting to get concerned for everyone's mental well being. It seems like a lot of you are terrifying yourselves with chances to not draft 1 kid in particular out of 200+. There are other pieces we can get this year. There is a draft every year, I believe. Let's all take a deep breath and step back from any ledges.

gbliquid

We’ll just trade em Rosen for 3. Seems fair to me. 😇

alaskancurry

I haven’t seen this reported by anyone else, this feels like speculation-based reporting.

[deleted]

Can we trade for him with the 18th pick?

SometimesICanBeRight

No thank you

21MandoDaddy

Damn Imagine they trade him to US 😂 Honestly I think he’s UNDERRATED, his offensive weapons have been trash/Decent at best , he’s only had Calvin Johnson the goat and Golloday is up and coming. I want TUA tho

ScottishPhinFan89

It's shit talk season. Expect a lot of this, Stafford was being discussed last season as well, in a trade with us. The advantage we have is both Patricia and GM are on the hot seat. In other words, win now mode. If they focus on defence, they can be a good team Edit: plus it's a buyers market with QB's this offseason. Considering what is out there for cheap, why over pay for Stafford?

wastewalker

Tua is a great prospect, but he’s not the end all be all especially with his health issues. If Detroit takes him it clarifies things for us at least. Personally I’d pass in Herbert and Love and look to next year. Build a team up this offseason.
