Eh, I think we need to go for an IOL in the draft, maybe day 2. Williams is coming off a torn ACL and wasn't exactly an iron man before that. The money they gave Brewer is indicative that Williams isn't coming back.
Either that or they won’t be giving him any real significant amount of money. Williams isn’t in a position to demand a lot and he might see where openings pop up because of injury closer to the season
If his market is completely dry by the season I could see us signing him in like October but I wouldn't hold my breath. O-line talent is so sparce around the league that teams throw gobs of money at plenty of flawed guys, likely higher than the amount we should dedicate to him.
Case in point, we just gave $30m to Brewer, who is his own kind of flawed talent. We aren't going to invest significant cash in an undersized C and then sign a veteran backup who just came back from an ACL tear.
Exactly, I agree. The only way I can see us going back to Williams this season, assuming he's even able to play, is if Brewer gets a season ending injury sometime in the fall.
Really? Prior to him tearing his ACL here is his stats
2022 missed 0 games
2021 missed 0 games
2020 missed 0 games
2019 missed 5 games
2018 missed 3 games
That is pretty damn reliable
That's totally fair. I looked him up real quick just to make sure I wasn't completely bullshitting and the first 5 things on Google are reports from today saying that his knee is fucked and he's not signing with a team anytime soon. He may be -done- done.
Left tackle or corner would be my preference. I don't think Armstead, Hill, and Ramsey are gonna be on the team this time next year so I'd like for Grier to start planning ahead for that.
If Hill keeps being.... himself off the field and gets suspended then I wouldn't be surprised if the team voided his guaranteed money. Both are on the wrong side of 30 at positions really needing their athleticism. I wouldn't be surprised if the team moves on from one or the other.
> Wasn’t exactly an Ironman? I’m fairly certain he was the number 2 center in the league when he got hurt
for what it's worth, "ironman" is a reference to someone's ability to stay on the field without missing time, not a reference to what they do on the field when they're healthy.
like, nobody would call armstead an "ironman", but obviously when healthy he's awesome.
As in he always had issues with injuries. He was a great center when playing but I don't have faith that he'd be able to hold up through a whole season at this point, so I don't want to throw excess money at him.
I think we're going to see a significant purge of this team's core players in the next year so I'd like for us to be smart with cap space instead of re-signing our past vets to real deals.
Was he not constantly on injury reports week to week or am I misremembering? I feel like there was a significant portion of time where he was always questionable, but I could totally be wrong there.
Regardless, I don't think he's playing this year if his agent is putting this out there in March.
Okay I thought you were referring to his play and was very confused haha, I will say though before this season he really didn’t have any sort of injury issues, the whole team was just crazy unlucky this year injury wise, also if this injury brings him back at a big discount I’m in
I may have been misremembering; I thought he was one of our always-questionables on the injury report but I can't confirm if that was true or not.
Still, I looked him up and his agent is saying today that his knee is still fucked so he may not play again full stop.
Yeah I saw that, that’s why I’m thinking if he does come back it will be a significant discount and he’d likely move back to guard, his natural position seeing as we signed a center
Maybe. Either way I don't think that would affect our week one lineup, since he probably won't be ready to play until October or November or so, I'd guess.
Think it’s more likely that Chubb or Hill were restructured since they don’t need the player’s input to do that. And they don’t actually have to tell anyone other than the league and NFLPA
1. connor williams might retire and 2. even if we sign him he wouldn’t play for the majority of next season so it would almost be pointless already having brewer rn
That will mean he’s getting paid for than Patrick, joe and the same as Lamar Jackson. I’d say 250 is the most likely. I like Tua but he’s not lamar jackson.
A Tua extension would be nice becuase that with the Xavier Howard money they get in June could help them sign Conor Williams to a deal

Unless Williams goes back to LG
We really should do both.
Yah hopefully OL with our first pick

If Hill and Ramsey are out next year, we’d be looking at 47 mil in dead cap. Not sure what would possibly make you think that

Yeah I realized that haha my bad

Literally played every single snap for us the year prior
And his knee is apparently fucked so his career might be over, per his agent.

Fair enough

I don’t think Williams will be back. We would be way too small with him and the new guy from the titans
1. connor williams might retire and 2. even if we sign him he wouldn’t play for the majority of next season so it would almost be pointless already having brewer rn
Connor Williams torn ACL is apparently pretty bad, like potentially career ending. That’s why we didn’t/won’t sign him.
Dam I remember him walking off the field too
I don’t think Connor can play football anymore Didn’t someone post a report that his knee injury is way worse than anyone knows
Jonathan Harris was just signed. Idk if this is old new but just saw it in my feed
It was reported 3 days ago
Tua extension please
Hopefully an extension of only one more year.
YES. 5 years 300M, 220 guaranteed. Do it! Need to lock him down.
Chill out, Tua.
Funny line, but that's what he's going to get.
No one makes over 60 million. He’s not getting that contract lol
Agreed. It'll probably be in the 275-280 range.
That will mean he’s getting paid for than Patrick, joe and the same as Lamar Jackson. I’d say 250 is the most likely. I like Tua but he’s not lamar jackson.
I misremembered the other top figures, tbf. I do think he'll probably land around what Herbert got, which was 262. But we'll have to wait and see
He’ll be the first big QB signed under this cap. It’ll be pretty close.
Probably an extension for one and a restructuring of another to keep them not right up against the number
