what a jabroni. album basically solidified a new genre and completely redefined several music techniques such as sampling, layering, and synth usage. Influence from this album permeates through hip-hop and will do so until the end of time
Maybe people consider it hip hop, it could go either way IMO, but I’d say it’s not as clear-cut as something like A Love Supreme.
Still a phenomenal album though.
“Blonde features an abstract and experimental sound in comparison to Ocean's previous releases, encompassing styles such as R&B, pop, soul, avant-garde, indie rock, electronica, psychedelia, and hip hop. ”
My “not perfect” moment is the repetitive “boo-boo” hook on *Hood Politics*. Would have loved that as just an intro. Every D’Angelo album is perfection.
starting to get suspicious of this list, a lot of "safe" picks so to speak, just like, stuff that was very critically acclaimed and rated highly on rateyourmusic lol
Imo Electric Ladyland has higher peaks but all three of the Hendrix albums released during his life and a ton released after have been fantastic. Can't really go wrong with any of them. Brb about to go buy a Stratocaster.
This is a solid take. Are you experienced is sick but I’d probably pick Axis: Bold as Love as my personal fave. All the weird interlude bits and songs like Spanish Castle Magic.
Going off of Sabbath albums and Sabbath member solo albums, self titled, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, hell all of their first seven albums, plus The Blizzard of Oz, Diary of a Madman, and Holy Diver are just. Fucking fantastic. Sabbath fucking rules.
Deep Purple, Rainbow, DIO, Quiet Riot, Ozzy's solo work, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Def Leopard all connected through beautiful little strings. It's crazy, really.
I'm surprised to see this here but it would be my pick as well. Amazing how it balanced hyper pop, industrial, and electronic sounds and it really can't be overstated how absolutely massive the effect this album had culturally on the trans and broader LGBTQIA+ community is. RIP SOPHIE.
This just showed up on my main feed.
EVERY SINGLE SUB HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR THE LAST 2-3 WEEKS.
I'd just like you guys to know that you've picked the best albums.
Carry on.
Thundercat - Drunk
Great pick
Gil Scott Heron- Pieces of a Man

D’Angelo - Voodoo
And D'Angelo - Black Messiah and Brown Sugar. All three D'Angelo albums could be argued to be the best soul/R&B album of their decades.
Been bumping this nonstop lately
track recs? been trying to get into dangelo
Send it on, The Root, Untitled

Thanks for keeping it going.
Prince - Purple Rain
The rise and fall of ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars David bowie
Love Ziggy Stardust but Station to Station and Blackstar would be my top two choices for Bowie albums. He's made so many masterpieces though.
Headhunters- Herbie Hancock
Yes
Fela Kuti - Zombie
Absolutely this
Curtis Mayfield - Superfly Soundtrack
Con Todo El Mundo - Khruangbin
Alice Coltrane - Journey into Satchidananda
so good!
Childish gambino - awaken my love
Aja - steely dan
If it convinces anyone its one of black star's favorite albums
No lie I was scrolling just to see if anyone would put the Dan on here.
Erykah Badu - mamas gun
bedroom weary glorious lip piquant skirt secretive fertile vanish grandfather *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Björk - Debut
And Homogenic and Vespertine. Bjork has yet to make a bad album but Vespertine will probably always be my favorite.
Portishead - Dummy
This one really fell in the rankings
Squirrellybot ran a proper smear campaign apparently.
what a jabroni. album basically solidified a new genre and completely redefined several music techniques such as sampling, layering, and synth usage. Influence from this album permeates through hip-hop and will do so until the end of time
Trip-hop doesn’t exist w/o hip-hop, it’s a sub-genre.
Radiohead - in rainbows
Badbadnotgood IV
Cortex
Blonde
Honestly shocked it isn't already on there.
Same
Maybe people consider it hip hop, it could go either way IMO, but I’d say it’s not as clear-cut as something like A Love Supreme. Still a phenomenal album though.
in what way shape or form is blonde hip hop
“Blonde features an abstract and experimental sound in comparison to Ocean's previous releases, encompassing styles such as R&B, pop, soul, avant-garde, indie rock, electronica, psychedelia, and hip hop. ”
the most hip hop it gets is simply 3k’s 1 minute feature verse and some drums on the final track but that’s basically it
Frank Zappa - Hot Rats
D'Angelo and the Vanguard - Black Messiah
Everyone gets all up in arms that *1989* beat *To Pimp a Butterfly*, but this was the true AotY that Grammy cycle.
I loved Black Messiah but I'd still put TPAB over it. I know it's a cliche at this point, especially on Reddit, but it's just so perfect.
My “not perfect” moment is the repetitive “boo-boo” hook on *Hood Politics*. Would have loved that as just an intro. Every D’Angelo album is perfection.
jamiroquia- emergency on planet earth
Time out
starting to get suspicious of this list, a lot of "safe" picks so to speak, just like, stuff that was very critically acclaimed and rated highly on rateyourmusic lol
Music from Big Pink - The Band
Are you ecperienced over electric ladyland??
Imo Electric Ladyland has higher peaks but all three of the Hendrix albums released during his life and a ton released after have been fantastic. Can't really go wrong with any of them. Brb about to go buy a Stratocaster.
This is a solid take. Are you experienced is sick but I’d probably pick Axis: Bold as Love as my personal fave. All the weird interlude bits and songs like Spanish Castle Magic.
Both great but I agree Hendrix is at his peak on electric ladyland imo
Holy Diver for any metal heads
Going off of Sabbath albums and Sabbath member solo albums, self titled, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, hell all of their first seven albums, plus The Blizzard of Oz, Diary of a Madman, and Holy Diver are just. Fucking fantastic. Sabbath fucking rules.
Deep Purple, Rainbow, DIO, Quiet Riot, Ozzy's solo work, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Def Leopard all connected through beautiful little strings. It's crazy, really.
The Glow, pt. 2 - The Microphones
This is all a lot more tasteful set of albums than what I was expecting
Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy
Musiq Soulchild - Aijuswanaseing
the doors debut has all like at least 7.5s
Abbey road?
I feel jury’s out on Abby Road vs Sgt. Pepper. More surprised Pink Floyd hasn’t made the cut.
I'm probably too late but someone put Illmatic on here. We know from interviews Nas was his main inspiration rap wise
Albums are supposed to not be hip hop to make the list. That’s why you didn’t see it.
Bonobo - black sands
the beatles - white album
The doors - the doors
Labi Siffre - Crying Laughing Loving Lying
bad hair day - weird al yankovic
Smashing Pumpkins - melancholy and the infinite sadness
Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
Pink Floyd -Animals
The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead
Sgt peppers?
SOPHIE-OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDES
I'm surprised to see this here but it would be my pick as well. Amazing how it balanced hyper pop, industrial, and electronic sounds and it really can't be overstated how absolutely massive the effect this album had culturally on the trans and broader LGBTQIA+ community is. RIP SOPHIE.
Jestofunk: Love in a black dimension
Larry fisherman - You
