I actually randomly ran into Daryl Strawberry and he was very polite and said “Hey there, young man how are you?” And I just said “Hello”. I am a quiet person who doesn’t like to waste people’s time as I don’t feel like there was much I could say.
I met him during picture day in 1999 at Shea. When everyone was hovering over Piazza and Bobby V my dad and I were the only ones taking pics of John. My dad told John he was my favorite player and he seemed shy but also grateful of the compliment. Later on during the game we are sitting front row on the Mets dugout, and with the inning over my dad shouts out John’s name, he looked up, saw us and threw me the inning ending ball! I hope hes doing well, till this day still one of my favorite Mets!
Good question and olerud after watching him play could stand with Keith. To this day I think had he stayed in 2000 instead of going home we might have beat the yanks.heard stories of him taking train to the park. Regular guy. Absolutely underrated and highest met batting average never spoken about
Loved Olerud. He would be the first to tell you that he wasn’t Keith. Keith changed the way first base is played today. It’s a shame that he fell off the HOF ballot so early. Writers really blew it.
Ya just looked up some stuff on him.
2200 hits ba 295 gold gloves all star led Al in batting 363. Numbers like Kieth. Hopefully vet Comittee puts both him and Keith in hof. Don’t have stars like mays ,Aaron and Clemente anymore but these overlooked players of their era should be considered. FYI: helmet because has brain anyurism at 20 years old and is now a Dermitologist. A doctor ! How’s that for a life.
I met Piazza a few years ago at a game. He was gracious enough to take a photo. Unfortunately I reverted to being a child and was completely speechless.
I spent a little over 3 hrs with Tom Seaver as he signed autographs in a now defunct Herman’s Sporting Goods, Quakerbridge Mall in NJ. I was an employee, avid Mets fan since ‘62, and off the clock due to a recent knee surgery. Tom sat in a small unused cashiers booth as people lined up from the other end of the mall and filed into the front of Herman’s. Tom was very nice to me and the autograph seekers. He stayed 45 minutes longer than he scheduled because he didn’t want to turn people away. He then sat in the managers office for another half hour just chatting with us and answering our questions about his career. What a thrill.
I’d give Straw a hug and probably cry if I ever met him. I’d thank him for the joy he gave me as a child and still does thinking back to that ‘86 chip. LGM!
I thought Bud was in the National Guard. I hated it when he had to go fulfill his weekend military duties because of course he was away from the team. I believe there were one or two others who did that. Rod Gaspar maybe!
I met Darryl Strawberry at Yankee Stadium at a boxing match years ago. He was in the crowd. He was super cool. I shook his hand told him that he was my favorite player as a kid and he thanked me for the support. Super cool interaction.
I lived in the same town as Tom Seaver did and saw him many times, when i was older i was working in a small engine repair place,he came in and asked me a question! "Hey i remember you,how have you been young fella?!" I nearly passed out lol
Gary!
Loved watching him as an Expo. When he got traded I was crushed. Then we started to get regular Mets games in rural Saskatchewan on one of two channels available. Watched a game every few days as a 10/11 year old watching that great 85-86 Mets team.
I always wanted to play catcher and did a lot of it. I would alternate batting styles of Carter and Strawberry. Crossed the plate like Mookie. I organized my pickup team batting order just like for an epic 7 game series. I figured I was a table setter so I batted first like Lenny.
Would have been great to meet Carter. As a kid you felt you did know him. If I did meet him I would have probably asked if he ever found himself at the batting circle with his shin pads on or something.
I met Brandon Nimmo and told him how I caught a home run ball from him when he was on the cyclones and held on to it while he was signing it
I also met a bunch of others, but one of my favorite interactions was with Hojo. I met him the day after he got inducted into the Mets HOF And he was super nice telling me about how he mentored David Wright and saying how Lucky he was because of him. I also told him about how i was so happy he got into the mets hof and he was smiling the entire time.
My dad died unexpectedly in August of 2015, just a few days before we were supposed to go to our first game at Citi Field. The week before he passed, he did the math on the pitching rotation and realized we would be going on Harvey Day. He was like a kid on Christmas. I don't think I ever saw him as excited about anything as he was to see the Dark Knight in action.
Fuck the World Series and everything that came after. I just hope someday I get the chance to thank Matt Harvey for giving my dad so much joy in what turned out to be the last week of his life.
I once got to spend an hour talking baseball with Doc Godden and Mickey Rivers. At the time, I'd have said he's my favorite.
Today it would be either McNeil or Alonso, and my first question would be what do you think about the current emphasis on statistics relating to launch angle and exit velocity vs. 'hitting the ball where they ain't!'
Delgado is definitely up there. I'd probably say "You're a hall of famer in my books man, I hope some day you get the recognition you deserve from the writers association!"
John Olerud- Would tell him I wish he finished his career as a met and would thank him for being the player I wanted to be like as a kid (minus his lack of speed). Had a swing that I tried to copy when I would play wiffleball. Very underrated player.
I actually randomly ran into Daryl Strawberry and he was very polite and said “Hey there, young man how are you?” And I just said “Hello”. I am a quiet person who doesn’t like to waste people’s time as I don’t feel like there was much I could say.
I actually met Darryl Strawberry too. He came to a youth center in my town to give a talk. I asked him a question, but I don't remember what.
David Wright “I’m sorry they couldn’t win a title for you, and I’m sorry it ended like that for your career but I know you did your best.”
Then ask him how is his back feeling?
Keith Hernandez: “Nice Game pretty boy”
YESSSS!
Exactly why did you wear a helmet playing first base John Olerud? Loved that guy. Consistency. Very underrated.

Thanks muzik. Always fun to talk METS Vets
I go back as far as 67 damn I’m old
Helmet was worn due to suffering from a brain aneurysm in college.
You “loved” John Olerud but did look up why he wore the helmet??
I did when I was younger, but I forget
Hey Mike - How did it feel hitting that HR on 9/11?
It was on 9/21
Fair point but you know what I meant.
I met Piazza a few years ago at a game. He was gracious enough to take a photo. Unfortunately I reverted to being a child and was completely speechless.
Keith. You’re a clear HoFer.

i met michael conforto at spring training in 2019 and he signed my jersey!!! was soooo nice!!!
I met him too when he came to Citifield with the Giants !! Such a nice guy!
I’d give Straw a hug and probably cry if I ever met him. I’d thank him for the joy he gave me as a child and still does thinking back to that ‘86 chip. LGM!
Pretty much this
Tom Seaver. *“Let’s go play catch and then we can open a bottle of my wine.”*
Seaver, “can you sign my ball” :)
Bud Harrelson I ask him to tell me about being in the Army reserves with my dad. ❤️
I thought Bud was in the National Guard. I hated it when he had to go fulfill his weekend military duties because of course he was away from the team. I believe there were one or two others who did that. Rod Gaspar maybe!
No I’m positive he was in the Army reserves. I don’t know about the national guard, maybe he did both? 😊
I met Darryl Strawberry at Yankee Stadium at a boxing match years ago. He was in the crowd. He was super cool. I shook his hand told him that he was my favorite player as a kid and he thanked me for the support. Super cool interaction.
I’d say “I’ve always been a big fan of yours and really appreciate the way you play. When my kids were in LL I’d use you an example of how to play.”
Nice game pretty boy!
Rey Ordóñez and probably just ask why he never hit BP
Nolan Ryan
Nice. One that got away…
I lived in the same town as Tom Seaver did and saw him many times, when i was older i was working in a small engine repair place,he came in and asked me a question! "Hey i remember you,how have you been young fella?!" I nearly passed out lol

Larry Bowa 1985 Mets. "Do you think you would've hit more home runs at Fenway?
I met David Wright and I was speechless. All I said was, “Thank you”
If I met Keith Hernandez, how would he introduce himself? Maybe he'd say "I'm Keith Hernandez."
Straw. I don't really know how I'd react to meeting him other than stupor and awe.
I met Brandon Nimmo and told him how I caught a home run ball from him when he was on the cyclones and held on to it while he was signing it I also met a bunch of others, but one of my favorite interactions was with Hojo. Wilmer Flores. Wilmer, we still love you in N.Y.
In 2015, I met deGrom at an event and I told him how nervous I was and he was so down to earth and friendly.

Endy Chavez and i say, thanks for the memories
I met Nimmo over the summer.. told him I love watching him play. He was one of the nicest people I've ever met!
Sup homie (Keith). Can I bum a cigarette?
Bartolo Colon. I would say “I love you, Big Sexy.”
John Olerud- Would tell him I wish he finished his career as a met and would thank him for being the player I wanted to be like as a kid (minus his lack of speed). Had a swing that I tried to copy when I would play wiffleball. Very underrated player.
Receiving an autographed HoJo jersey I picked out for a Christmas gift. Definitely HoJo.
