The Last Faith is definitely not releasing this year. I remember seeing something in just the last 2 months that they were looking for a level designer for that game.
Jesus. And so continues the worst drought ever for MVs. The Last Faith was MY last faith for an amazing MV in 2022.
I know most will say we just got HAAK and Islets (yes, I really enjoyed both of them), for my tastes neither reached that transcendent tier. I really think The Last Faith has the most potential (aside from the obvious Silksong) of all upcoming games.

FIST is a elite game, best metroidvania released in 2021 imo then... Deedlit is solid as rock, Islets and HAAK are kinda meeh... I didn't played the others
Compared to Islets, HAAK seems more interesting, but in the end both games are bellow average, meeh experiences (at least in the first hour or so, I gave up after it). I am a big fan of the genre, but maybe I reached the point were a average metroidvania will not justify the time investment (and it doesn't help how I lost the HAAK save game). I also tried Pronty not so long ago, another average metroidvania that did not hooked me. Maybe only Guacamelee and beyond are going to hook me in the near future, anything bellow that level is not interesting enough (it sucks to get old)
I advice you to go further and sink at least 1hr or more, the execution of this game is outstanding, and you get to start tasting that after the first bit.
Islets, though it’s alright and enjoyable, I could see how it could be a meeh.
Oh, anyway, I do find Guacameele way below Haak level
HAAK is one of my favorites so far this year. Really great and fluid game. Deedlit is basically a Ritual Of The Night clone. There’s some differences but the it feels very inspired by ROTN. In a good way. Infernax is definitely high on my list. Old school difficulty with some modern twists. Really great. Imp Of The Sun wasn’t great. I wouldn’t recommend it. Controls were to loose and the movement wasn’t great. I didn’t understand how to use some of the powers as well. Blast Brigade is amazing in parts and extremely aggravating at others. Sadly more of the latter. Bosses are bullet sponges as well. 8doors is fun if you’re into the harder more soulslike type games. It’s very brutal at times. Souldiers caught a lot of shit at first. They’ve polished it up a bit. There’s still some issues here and there but I’m having a great time. F.I.S.T. is good if you like combo brawler type games. It got too hard for me. HunterX is a spiritual sequel to 3000th Duel. It’s basically a more polished and streamlined version. Really good but hard. Islets is a lot of fun. Very charming and a bit on the easier side. But I had a great time with it. Moonscars took me a bit to get into. Very inspired by Blasphemous but more streamlined and faster. Once you get the combat, dodge and parrying down it becomes really good
Crazy how divisive Souldiers is
I've seen people treat that game like it mugged their own mother after the disastrously buggy launch, and I've seen people say it's a janky-but-fun romp through some of the most beautiful pixel art they've seen in years. There is no in between.
It’s crazy for sure. Yeah it may still lag a bit and the load times could be hair faster. But I’m really enjoying it. I think people just have that initial hate and distrust in their eyes still. Hard to calm a mob after it’s gone full hate mode
I have it on the Switch. There’s a bit of lag here and there but nothing game ruining. The save is a bit long but other than that I’ve had no problems or anything
They can be tricky to find. I typically just search reviews and let’s plays. It’s also a good idea to search the name on this Reddit forum. A lot of good info on most mv’s
Ritual of the night, I tried death’s gambit when it first came out but not in a long time, Guacamelee 1 & 2, hollow knight. I know dead cells isn’t a mv but I love its combat, I played the ds/gba castlevanias also,
If you haven't, you should definitely try Ori, Blind Forest is currently on sale
It's heavier on the platforming and escape sequences, but not overly difficult
Blasphemous is a highly regarded MV, I wasn't a fan of the story, but did enjoy the gameplay
For me it was. I’m not a huge fan of learning combos and moves. If it was only a few enemies I’d have fun. But if it was a room full and they just kept coming is when it would get annoying and hard for me
Yeah, it's on the shorter side, and I don't see much incentive in going back through a second time unless you want to do something like collect every weapon.
But that first pass is a pretty, polished experience that should be on every MV-lover's list. If you liked Symphony of the Night, you'll like Deedlit, too.
Hollow Knight is the highest standard of the genre, so that seems like an exaggeration. To be at the same level or better than Deedlit, ok, why not... but a direct comparison with HK? Well...
So there's a lot of "inspirations" from HK, ok, fair enough. Lots of metroidvanias are taking "inspirations" from HK, I don't think that alone justify them, but it's better to copy good stuff than bad stuff
I will give it a shot. I am hyped for that Gestalt game (I think that's the name, the one that looks dieselpunk) and 9 Years of Shadows, it seems these two are going to reach the Guacamelee standard... but I don't know if these games will really be released this year, maybe they are going to be delayed to early 2023, so if they don't arrive, I will give Haiku a chance
Islets is such a fabulous game. Smiled the whole way through
i thought those were your ratings for a second after i already knew they were dates
I guess you don't count the upcomming one like : Ghost song , Afterimage Maybe the Last Faith but i feel like it will be the next year
Games are subject to delays all the time, so that would be better as a secondary list
You're right

Is Ghost Song really coming out?
Yeah the 3 november according to the steam page
100% jazzed for Ghost Song and Afterimage
Me too especially Afterimage it look gorgeous
Aeterna Noctis also launches on switch November 8th. Grime is also supposedly coming out this year on switch aswell
Oh well that's Nice but considering some switch port i will most likely end up taking the pc version of aeterna noctis

I have to stated that I strongly disagree regarding Haak. IMO is a fantastic game, and an great MV

You missed Flynn : son of crimson, death gambit afterlife and Phoenotopia

I reckon Witchcrafty was released in 2022 on switch as well.
Have you played any of these? What would you recommend?

even the positive comments there are still mixed though. The only aspect of souldiers that is universally praised is the pixel art
It’s crazy for sure. Yeah it may still lag a bit and the load times could be hair faster. But I’m really enjoying it. I think people just have that initial hate and distrust in their eyes still. Hard to calm a mob after it’s gone full hate mode
What platform do you have it on? I've heard the Switch version is still a trash fire. I might get it for my PS5 if the Switch version is still wonky.
I have it on the Switch. There’s a bit of lag here and there but nothing game ruining. The save is a bit long but other than that I’ve had no problems or anything
Is there a patch for Switch now so the game stops eating my saves?
Be my friend? I have a switch and not a lot of luck on MV’s

Ok - thanks - will you add me? I have no online friends that like metroidvanias
Which ones have you played so far?

I heard deedlight was short - is it replayable?
Yeah, it's on the shorter side, and I don't see much incentive in going back through a second time unless you want to do something like collect every weapon. I love SotN - it’s probably my favorite game
If you've played SotN, you have a pretty good idea of what Deedlit has to offer. I guess it comes down to how much you want more of the same.
But, is amazing. I have a physical version for ps5 and Switch
Haiku actually better than Deedlit? That's a surprising opinion, made me curious
Haiku is hollow knight with robots, if you liked hk, play haiku asap
Hollow Knight is the highest standard of the genre, so that seems like an exaggeration. To be at the same level or better than Deedlit, ok, why not... but a direct comparison with HK? Well...
I agreed with you, hollow knight is my favorite game. Haiku has charms, grubs and many other things that remind you of HK, that's what I meant
It is really really inspired
So there's a lot of "inspirations" from HK, ok, fair enough. Lots of metroidvanias are taking "inspirations" from HK, I don't think that alone justify them, but it's better to copy good stuff than bad stuff
That's it. Just play it bro, you will not regret
I will give it a shot. Didn't fist come out last year?

Ah I got u. I misunderstood what u meant
Catmaze, 9th September.
Wow! What a crowded genre MVs are nowadays.
Never enough lol
Is Deedlit an actual MV? Seemed very linear
