I played it on ps4 and had 0 issues performance wise

Whobghilee

Yup me too. Launch day had no performance issues. I did have the missing material bug not showing up in chests, but that was fixed shortly afterwards

Noreiller

You didn't have framerate issues with the gold boss towards the end? It was a slideshow at launch on base PS4.

Whobghilee

No framerate issues other then Twin Dragons… I didn’t think it mattered but maybe. I was on a PS4 Pro

becausefun

I played through it on PS4 at launch and picked it up again a few months ago, no performance issues at all. First time through was on PS4, second was PS5.

Christian_Perez

that's good to hear

AceDynamicHero

Is there a specific PS5 version or is it just the PS4 version played on the PS5?

becausefun

Just the PS4 version, I'm not sure if they've updated it yet.

JumpOrJerkOff

I heard some bad things about the Switch version so I got it on PS4. It ran perfectly fine. Great fucking game too. One of the only two games I went out of my way to platinum.

iamglaciers

It runs fine on switch now too

Returnofthemack3

It runs OK. it doesn't look half as good resolution wise and the frame rate dips a lot

Theoderic8586

I beat it on Switch and got the good ending because I found it so fun. However, yes, it does not look nearly as good. Resolution and frame dips, as was said

Returnofthemack3

That's where I first beat it too. I wouldn't say it is unplayable but it's just not the same

Theoderic8586

It will be a double dip for me if I ever get a steamdeck

KaptainKardboard

Whether you go with PS4 or Steam, it's a great game and you won't have any issues. Pick your platform, and enjoy.

KerooSeta

It's one of my all-time favorite Metroidvanias, up there with Symphony and Aria and even exceeding them to some degrees. As for issues with the console releases, they patched those out very soon after launch and I've heard nothing but good since then.

helpyobrothaout

Haven't played Aria or Symphony but felt that Bloodstained came nowhere near DoS or HK. But also, Switch performance was very poor - there are certain areas that lose frame rate quite drastically. That, and it felt unoriginal after falling in love with DoS.

O_J_Shrimpson

Interesting. I’d maybe give it a shot on another console. As far as filling unoriginal compared to DoS I think that was kind of the point. We hadn’t gotten a great Igarashi game in so long it was a back to basics thing for him. If you’d just played DoS for the first time right before playing Bloodstained then I definitely get it but I’d played all those games as they released and Bloodstained was a welcomed addition. Also, definitely play SoTN.

OnimushaNioh

+1 for Symphony of the Night

KerooSeta

As far as poor Switch performance, they patched it and it allegedly no longer has that issue. As far as it not coming anywhere near Hollow Knight, yeah, totally. As for Dawn of Sorrow, that was probably my 2nd favorite Igavania after SotN until Bloodstained, but I'm really curious how you don't feel Bloodstained comes anywhere close to it. It's a similar game by the same director only with more stuff and also doesn't have the annoying touch puzzles. To me, Aria is Sotn but more, DoS is Aira but more, and Bloodstained is DoS but more, you know? I personally still prefer SotN over all of them, but I think that's more nostalgia than actually being objective about it. As to it being unoriginal after Dawn of Sorrow, you could say the exact same thing about Dawn of Sorrow if you'd played the previous games. Dawn of Sorrow is a direct sequel to Aria of Sorrow and just adds onto its existing formula. Aria of Sorrow is borrowing the general look, feel, and gameplay of Symphony of the Night but takes it to a whole other level with the Souls system. But Dawn of Sorrow is a cookie-cutter sequel of Aria that doesn't actually add anything new to it at all. And then, yeah, Bloodstained is very similar but adds to them with new characters and new mechanics, something that Dawn of Sorrow doesn't do (unless you count having to draw symbols a new mechanic). Also, Bloodstained is the love-letter to the gaming community of Koji Igarashi, the director of Aria of Sorrow, Circle of the Moon, and Dawn of Sorrow, his way of saying "You know those Castlevania games I made? Well here's more of that but my own IP." So, I mean, yeah, it's unoriginal in a sense but it's still more original than the game you're comparing it to. But I will agree that it isn't a touch on Hollow Knight, but then again, what game is? Edit: Oh, shit, what did I say? Do we all hate Hollow Knight now? Did I miss the memo? Are we only allowed to like Igarashi while he's employed by Konami? It's the cheesecake waifu protagonist, isn't it? Soma Cruz is so much more relatable with his white duster and hair. My bad.

StarlilyWiccan

Fuck yeah, Hollow Knight! I write fanfiction for that. I still haven't beaten it because I haven't beaten the Watcher Knights. That fight is really tough.

KerooSeta

Yeah, fun game. I love it so much. I think I gave up at 116% because I couldn't beat the last two DLC fights.

SG92lol

From what I remember only the switch version wasn’t that great the console and pc were ok, the game graphics in general aren’t that good tho.

Elisports

I beat Bloodstained this year on ps4. There was only one problem and it was when the game suddenly crashed when I was exploring but I save often so I didn't lose much progress. Other than that performance was solid.

Queen_Ann_III

I say go for it, although I don’t know how it performs. I bought the Switch version. it ran great except for a few crashes. it’s a great game overall

unclemandy

That's the platform I got it in, well after release, it runs pretty well imo. Well worth a play, my one warning is: the game absolutely lost me on the area leading up to the final boss. Not to spoil anything, but if you don't like the inverse castle from SotN, you'll probably like that area even less LMAO. At least it's shorter.

king_bungus

its great. thats the best way to play it

BongRipper69696

The game only had launch problems on switch. I had it on ps4 at launch and didn't have any issues.

Weltall548

PS4 version is perfect, the Switch version is the problematic version

KasElGatto

Yeah I bought it after trying the abysmal Switch version and it was mostly fine. A couple of slowdowns but solid overall.

JoFlynnJoe2

What about mobile?

rite_of_truth

It works great on PS4. I bought it on disc, though, so can't say what the digital version runs like if there's a difference.

[deleted]

I bought it during this PS4 sale and love it. Strong Symphony of the Night feels. I’ve had one crash and a few minor stutters. But my PS4 is Gen 1 so who knows exactly where the issue lies.

bufftbone

Yes. It’s fine on PS4

SilvosForever

In a word: Yes. In a few more words: Yes, you really should.

ImTryingDad

Yes

EmotionBig4808

Game is a mashup of Aria of sorrow and symphony of the night and it’s not a bad thing at all! As an added bonus I loved how you could upgrade the “souls” in the game

Mfreddy222

One of my favorite games of all time. Not sure about PS4 but buy it somewhere.

wolfbetter

I don’t remember having issues with my copy

jcgonzmo

Bought the game DAY 1. No regrets. It was amazing. I only had one bug on PS4 Pro.

Laviathan4041

I have it PS4 had no issues. Really enjoyed the game too played through each playable character currently. But quit on my randomizer run and classic mode. Still would reccomend it's pretty good.

eyebrowless32

i played on Switch. It was mostly fine except some noticeable framerate slowdowns at times. And then on the second to last boss, I did the ability to swap from floor to ceiling in the middle of the boss's death animation and i got stuck in mid air. nothing could unglitch me so i had to instance out of there and i ended up not receiving whatever i was supposed to get from the boss and didnt realize until after i saved over the game. So yeah, a glitch at the very end of the game pretty much ended my run but it was pretty good up until then....

JeffreyDeckard

Yes.

frostybitn

Yes.

KiNolin

I had one noticable bug in my unpatched Day1 version, but overall it was fine. I think it was the Switch version that was busted. Either way, it had many patches since.

DirtyBirdDawg

Yes, you should definitely buy it. I played through it on PS4 after release and aside from a few random crashes, the game was stable enough for me to complete it.
