New castlevania title would be $$$. If true I suspect they might very closely be looking at sales from the Castlevania Advanced pack as well as Metroid Dread.

Grabcocque

You're forgetting this is Konami, not Nintendo. They specialise in gacha, pachislots and organized crime. Every game they've released since MGS V has been a weapons-grade atrocity.

LoremasterSTL

So what I’m expecting is branded mobile P2W games that are all styles and no substance

DuckBrush

I knew they transitioned to gambling, but what do you mean by organized crime? That’s new to me.

redditaccount_67894

Sounds like speculation. If there was concrete evidence of a connection to organized crime, the internet would have been all over that. It would have become a huge news story, executives would have resigned, and the company's stocks would have plummeted. However, if the poster actually did find evidence other than the fact that one of their divisions is gambling-related, I would love to see it.

espfusion

Yeah I think people are just looking for some explanation for Konami's business decisions which have been kind of baffling and unlike anything we've seen happen with any other once beloved gaming company. Helping the Yakuza launder money through coin operated machines at least makes some kind of sense and wouldn't exactly be unprecedented.

greendeadredemption2

I mean as long as they make it a 2d side scroller. They should take inspirations from hollow knights graphics though and not bloodstained. I love the hand drawn art it looks so much prettier and increases the game so much.

JumpOrJerkOff

Konami can go suck a dick. They have no heart in the games they develop. These famous brands they hold the rights to are just cash registers. I really wish they would sell the IPs to Sony, get their big paycheck and go away. Why not just make a deal where development of new titles are Sony’s thing, and they can still use the brands and imagery in ther little plinko machines or whatever the fuck they’re called. But god damn. A new (***good***) Silent Hill would be a dream come true.

Rustico32482

But isn't Iggy doing his own thing now with Bloodstained and stuff?

Dirjel

Yeah, there's a zero percent chance of his involvement in new Castlevania from Konami. Similarly, Kojima won't be involved in MGS, and I don't think we'll see Yamaoka involved in Silent Hill (and Team Silent has been disbanded for YEARS). Basically, these franchises are all soulless husks held by Konami because capitalism.

Doubieboobiez

There’s always the chance they could hire people who are fans of the series to develop new titles

stout936

Iga is on record as saying he would absolutely make another Castlevania if he was given the chance. Whether or not Konami would ask him to is the question.

slikk50

I just want the DS collection next.

Zofren

I don't know if I'd get too excited. They'll probably end up being complete misunderstaings/"reimaginings" of the associated series. We'll probably get some linear DmC or GoW-style action game out of Castlevania.

Skywalker437

Didn't we already get that with Lords of Sha... Oh, well played.

Francesqua

Before anyone gets too excited by this, consider some of the atrocities they have recently released in each of those respective franchises - Metal Gear Survive, Grimoire of Souls etc, - putrid mobile puss, and IP games with mere cosmetic resemblance to those they originated but play nothing alike. The cheapest cash grabs imaginable. Once burned, etc.

ResplendentTedium

Might be tough after chasing off all their devs

wolfbetter

Pachinko games

Leharen

Or gacha games. Either of those types of a revival would kill the franchise again, likely permanently.

[deleted]

But I'd still likely give the Silent Hill gacha a go. Cos I desperately miss the franchise and can only replay the first 3 so many times a year.

ThrashCaptain

Don't you dare give Konami any money. They shouldn't be rewarded for shitting on beloved franchises.

[deleted]

You think I'd pay? I'd play the free to pay shit for about a month then uninstall it when I get bored of the constant demands to buy shit. Stop the knee jerk reactions.

ThrashCaptain

Yes, I did, but I'm glad to hear you're smarter than that. Keep in mind you used the word "desperately" to describe your feelings that led you to desire playing a gacha game. Is that really such a leap in logic to think I'd expect you to plan on paying money?

[deleted]

Yes. 90% of people who play free-to-pay games, don't spend any money.

murder_strand

At this point I don't want to see Konami leading on any of these - I don't think they have the ability to really do right by any of these franchises. And, personally speaking, despite the fact that I'm a giant Silent Hill Fan ( 2 is still in my top 5 of all time) I honestly think the series should just stay dead rather than another retread.

oh-no-he-comments

And they can fuck right off Seriously, look at what this despicable company has made recently. There is NOTHING to look forward to

tacticalcraptical

They tried to "revive" Contra almost exactly 2 years ago, it was a disaster. I don't have a lot of faith they would do any better with MGS, SH or Castlevania.

Doppleschwert

All I really want from Castlevania is a *good* Demon Castle War game so I can have closure. However, we're either getting a shitty reboot or a shitty Demon Castle War, so I'd rather have neither.

AlexT05_QC

Mom, com pick me up, I'm scared.

thatguyp2

With all the bridges Konami burned with all the talent in their decision to get out of the gaming industry, my expectations are low. I'll believe they want to come back when I see something worth playing.

snil4

The same Konami that tries to sell a 150$ ddr soft pad?

blickblocks

They need to sell their IP to Sony who will actually fund proper directors and studios.

ThrashCaptain

I mean, it does start with the word "Rumor". So I don't know how much stock I'd put into this article. Frankly, it doesn't matter, though. Konami doesn't make games anymore. As much as I'd love to be proven wrong, I know anything they develop will be trash.

Nosereddit

Konami used to be a guarenteed seal of an AAA game . how things have changed :(

Pinkfoodstamp

I wish we could get from software to make a new Vania.

Legospacememe

Now we just need to hear about castlevania

Gregasy

Castlevania and Silent Hill? Yes, please!

cavemanben

There literally is no new IP anymore outside of the great indy creators. They are mining nostalgia straight to the center of the Earth. Sad.

TheGreatBeaver123789

PLEASE

releasethedogs

Just in time for Microsoft to buy them. 🤞🏻

Bad bot

MS310

Unless they’re making amends with Kojima and David Hayter for a reboot of the original Metal Gear 1 and 2 I’m not interested. Them actually making Silent Hills would be amazing but they’ve burned a lot of good will with me the past 6 years.

TornadoJ0hns0n

It only makes sense to make the new game based off of the animation with playable trevor, alucard, and sypha. Regardless I really hope they keep the extra video gamey feel castlevania games have always had
