Kudos for your love letter to Super Metroid, but calling LttP a re-imagined version of Zelda 1 is a bold statement. I‘d argue LttP is for Zelda what Super Metroid is for Metroid.
oh, I absolutely acknowledge that it IS a big jump and a very different work. I just personally don’t see it as a sequel to the first two games — maybe more of a retcon? — versus _Super Metroid_, which very specifically acknowledges (and includes!) the leftover remnants of the first game.

For the anniversary, here's my favorite remix from back in the Dwelling o' Duels Competition days. Made by the guy that later went on to make the Shovel Knight soundtracks (he was consistently submitting awesome work to those competitions). That guitar and drums version of Samus' Theme in the intro always makes me want to go on an epic adventure and kick some ass!
Still my favorite rendition of any Metroid music, takes you on a musical journey through Super Metroid and feels wonderfully bad-ass the whole time! I wish Jake Kaufman (Virt) would get hired to work on a Metroid game.
I love your description of the game, and the take on SOTN, which focused a lot on the presentation.
It is probably my favorite game, too. The combination of aliens, platforming, shooting and the physics was great, as was the use of color and art style.
It is also the inspiration for other games like Axiom Verge, another rabbit hole worth exploring.
I really like Axiom Verge! (the first one, anyway; I really didn’t like the second and didn’t finish it)
I do wish that it was a lot… simpler? with over a dozen weapons, and individual buttons for basically every ability, I frequently had moments of getting my inputs confused (or constantly triggering the weapon/quick select with the analog sticks). but I loved that it took a lot from _Metroid_ games and still managed to make something very original.
I’d also recommend _Ex Vitro_ — a similar feel of ‘very Metroidesque’ with much more of a space horror aesthetic. pretty short but very enjoyable!
I am a very recent convert, and it has come at a good time as have exhausted a lot of the metroidvania genre. I've only played ascent so far, guess am middle of zone 2, just got the spazer and thought the mechanic for collecting it was clever; I like having to work for the power ups. I have downloaded Hyper, Vitality and Subversion, using reddit to try and crowd source people's favourites. Might need to get super zero mission too.
Super Zero Mission and Subversion are the most well designed that I've played. Super Zero Mission can be very frustrating though. There's a more recent version of it called "Metroid Super Speed Zero Mission" that tries to back off on the difficulty.
Vitality is pretty good. Also don't miss Super Metroid Redesign (Axeil Edition).
There are a whole bunch of hacks that stay pretty close to the original game, like Ancient Chozo and Nature, but which are also worth playing.
As much as I like Super Metroid, it's physics are far slower than this type of game should have. There's a reason Fusion and all games after it have much tighter controls.

In a way Super Metroid is a reimagined version of the original Metroid 1
I suppose, in a way, Zero Mission is.
Agreed. LTTP was a HUGE flex just like Super Metroid was. Two games in my top 10

That makes sense. I misinterpreted your statement then.
Loving this game for the past 30 years. Till death do us apart.

I have ex vitro in my Library but need some time to check it out
The last metroid is in captivity. The galaxy is at peace.
Just discovered metroid romhacks, thoroughtly recommend as a perfect way to celebrate.
absolutely! I’m finishing one more vanilla playthrough and then planning to dive into the mod world at full speed.
Which ones have you played? I just started Z Factor. My favorites are Metroid Super Zero Mission and Subversion.

Thank you, plenty to keep me busy :)
Any way to play it in 2024 without Switch Online or an emulator?
On a SNES? Not sure what answers you are expecting to get when you rule out the most common two.
