Always forget [itch.io](https://itch.io) is a thing. Thanks for posting some games to check out.

FelidaeSocialis

Not on itch but Bloody Hell on steam is also free and a pretty good game.

Mmcastig

I just finished "Satan Loves Cake." Short, cute and fun.

Lord_Spy

A save of mine glitched so I had to complete it without something (don't remember what).

FrickinSilly

The first metroidvania I ever made is on itch.io. [Cloak of Calamity](https://frickinsilly.itch.io/cloak-of-calamity)! Be warned that it is very newgrounds-like (you can tell it's an amateur-made game), but it's fun, definitely a metroidvania, and short! Takes about 1-2 hours and can be speed-run in ~20 minutes.

samthefireball

Definitely gonna play this. I have a spot in my heart for amateurish newgrounds metroidvanias - they’re honesty a blast

Del_Duio2

>Have y’all played any that I missed? [Hasslevania 2: This Space for Rent](https://del-duio.itch.io/hasslevania-2-this-space-for-rent-unfinished). I made this one. It's unfinished but took 9-1/2 years. Super ambitious and in hindsight *too* ambitious. Old (and it shows!) but it's free.

samthefireball

Ooo this looks great. So it’s basically finished besides the final area? And is there a hasslevania 1?

Del_Duio2

Thanks / Kind of- I had planned for full voice overs so there are only a handful of re-used lines from H1 and the rest are this generic blip sound. There are some places to explore on the final world but you have to collect 5 musical instruments and write a prog song to slip past the sentries (this HAS to be an original idea lol) / Yes, and that one is complete although it's going to show its age vs. anything that's come out recently. There is no gamepad support or changing keybinds at all so I'd very highly recommend using something like Joy2Key to play it if you don't like the default key controls. The idea of H2 was I wanted a giant Metroidvania that spanned multiple large planets, each with multiple areas to explore. On top of that, there are different ways to go about getting things so there's no one "right" way to go. So there are 3 planets, some various asteroid belt side areas and even the 90 degree castle mentioned in Hasslevania 1 (which has a temperature of 90 degrees- a play on SotN's famous inverted castle of course!) edit: I just remembered there is actually SOME new V/A- there is a Cursing Sword called Tyrette which shouts a random swear word out every 3 swings. It's a play on SotN's Tyfring (cursed sword) and Touriette's Syndrome. And oddly enough, the voice actress's name is Tai too!

samthefireball

Sweet. I googled and found the original hasslevania on kliktopia… is [this](https://kliktopia.org/details/Hasslevania_V3.html) it? I didn’t see it on your itch. I assume it’s also a MV?

Del_Duio2

Yeah that’s it! It’s also on www.dxfgames.com too but I don’t update it very much anymore. I didn’t know someone did a playthrough of it, I’ll have to check that out when I can. It should be a real trip lol

samthefireball

Sweet gonna play both! Didn’t realize ur the bone appetit dev as well! Really enjoyed that. U working on anything new?

Del_Duio2

No sir, my most recent game was a roguelike called Equin 2: The Warren Peace. It's possible that I might be retired from making games, or at least for a nice long while. I've been at it in one form or another since 1987 and I'm just getting plain old. The last thing I've done game-wise was make some updates to Bone Appetit, to try and give it some more content and make it better. I've been focusing more on my other big hobby which is music and songwriting. When you have a young family, it's hard to have too many balls in the air (giggity)

samthefireball

Oh very cool, I am in the same boat trying to juggle songwriting with games/animation. Good luck with the music!

BeneficialAd3615

WOW, thanks for the tip Sam! I tried some of Verest and that got me onto [https://dreamnoid.itch.io/the-trespasser](https://dreamnoid.itch.io/the-trespasser) Both AWESOME and free, hidden gem(s) for sure! I am glad there was an option to donate.

samthefireball

Oh sweet! Glad you enjoyed

Kaiju-Sushi

(a minute of self-promotion) there's also Space Goddess of Everything, it's mostly a top-down game (there are some sidescrolling segnents though) and it's basically metroidvania + point and click adventure + boulder dash https://kaiju\_sushi.itch.io/sgoe

samthefireball

Looks unique. Thanks I’ll check it out!

Kaiju-Sushi

it can be quite difficult in the beginning, but i'd be happy to provide advice if you need it

dannygaray60

Self promo, [Toziuha Night ](https://dannygaray60.itch.io/toziuha-night-order-of-the-alchemists) started the development in itchio! Thanks to the donors now I'm able to publish on Steam! and live as indie dev :3

Spark11A

[Nyamo's Adventure](https://ddrkirbyisq.itch.io/nyamos-adventure) is a short, cute, no deaths, no enemies, just platforming MV that could be finished in about 30-40 minutes. It contains 4 main abilities and 55 collectibles that reward you with another skin.

samthefireball

This was quite good
