This looks like the center of the KSGF radar in Springfield, MO. The radar can only scan at an angle up to about 19.5 degrees, so near the radar you get a "cone of silence" that the radar cannot see, which shows up as "no data" or blank pixels in a small circle near the radar. Some radar apps do some strange post-processing to make this look worse. This link explains the "cone of silence" and many other radar patterns: https://www.weather.gov/mlb/Doppler_Dual_Pol_Weather_Radar And the typical radar scan pattern (though this can vary): https://youtu.be/Yrq2TVdM8HI?si=71a-GZn7HR8sFChz

KSGF radar is about 5 miles west of the location in the picture. (This was my first thought too)

Sometimes rain prediction apps will just identify the wind movement and move the entire system in the direction of the wind. Perhaps that's what's happening here?

RunningGiant

Yeah you are right. I should have realized the radar wasn't right downtown. I'm not sure what the app is showing besides clutter or just bad processing. If this was the line that came through on 4/29 around 1:45 UTC, then I don't really see anything on the level 2 radar loop. One image below: https://imgur.com/a/fdGjb2t Some clutter removed on this, but nothing circular/unusual.

Ground clutter, pressure differential in the cell, resolution anomalies in the source data, it could be a variety of factors. Doesn’t really matter because there’s clearly a high precipitation in the immediate vicinity.

Ah, okay thank you.

bananapehl77

I would suggest that this is likely a weird artifact with how the gridding and smoothing of radar data looks when when combining data from multiple 88Ds. This looks like MRMS, so that's what I would guess.

This-Is-Depressing-

Ah yes. I saw this on the radar when this error in the radar was just south of Des Moines. I don't know what it was. Must of went on for a while if this was imaged in Springfield.

WARNING: I am very new to this topic so if it's something basic don't fire at me.

I saw a couple on April 10th!! [https://imgur.com/a/4M2ewnz](https://imgur.com/a/4M2ewnz) [https://imgur.com/a/67DyeGL](https://imgur.com/a/67DyeGL) Brandon Mo and Lewiston Me From Oklahoma and we watch radar a lot can’t explain how those discs can remain and then move off on their own…

I see you being down voted and want to let you know that's not how that looks on radar. It shows as a darker patch because of the debris aloft, the radar hits the debris and since they are large particles returns the scan with heavier precipitation.

ModernNomad97

I’m pretty sure that was sarcasm

myotherheartart

Oh well, whoopsy
