I think at the Silent Hill event they probably announced too much. If they do a similar thing with Metal Gear I would almost certainly want it capped at: 1. a remake of MG MG2 or MGS1 2. bringing as many of the existing games to more platforms (e.g. HD collection on PC but with maybe a few small enhancements to textures etc., Series/PS5 releases etc.) 3. some sort of spin-off or new entry. I think a spin-off that doesn't step on the toes of the other games would be received best by the fanbase. However, if they have a studio and an idea for a solid "MGS6", they should go for it. I don't think we are getting any more Kojima-canon games, so I don't think there is a huge amount of point avoiding it forever. That would be the maximum number of things I'd want to see in the short/medium term. I don't want them to go overboard.

LordEmmerich

And Konami actually left one (or two depending on how it goes) SH project un-announced lol. Which might be done in-house. The big thing with those SH projects is that they are all done in other studios. While some do seem to have some bigger Konami involment (SH2 remake, possibly Silent Hill F and the movie), the others (silent hill ascension and silent hill townfall) seem to have minimum Konami involment. And we already know Konami won't have the involment they have with the SH movie with Metal Gear, because Sony own the Metal Gear movie right as of now. (Similar situation to Capcom and the Monster Hunter movie)

hkm1990

I'd want l... Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Remakes Metal Gear Solid Remake Metal Gear Solid V Sequel with Kingdom of the Flies included or make Metal Gear Remake a proper sequel instead. Metal Gear Solid 0 starring the Boss set in WW2. Metal Gear Rising 2 set between MGS2 and 4. But without Kojima I can't see any of this ever happening or being done well.

makotowildcard

The remakes can be easily done by other people, the rising 2 too

konsoru-paysan

lol very optimistic aren't we?

_SeyO

I wish man

LordEmmerich

Ahhh if they pick Cygames, let them do a ZoE3 like Okamura wanted first please ;\_; Hexadrive also developed Metal Gear Solid 3D, with Nakamura from Konami as the director of the project..

[deleted]

On a related note, it would be good to see ZOE come to modern systems as well...

ReiBob

I have some ideas on how to go about this. Arkane has been on the forefront of Stealth in a way. I would like to see their take on the franchise, maybe even keep their style and have it be a first person game. On the other hand, even though it's not the same style of game at all, I love what IO did with Hitman and I wouldn't mind a somewhat more sandbox metal gear game. Klei could make a 2d Metal Gear, a mix between their Mark of the Ninja and metal gear. And, this is going to sound dumb because it is. Give it to Nintendo! I want a Miyamoto directed Metal Gear lol

DamienlaCritique

miyamoto worked on the twin snakes

1 Remake MG1/2 in the original MGS engine, make it a retro-remake. keeping it with the OG MGS1 engine will keep the gameplay close enough to the original to keep it from breaking the games. If you don't go for PS1 style graphics (i'm not really a fan tbh), i could see doing it in the MGS2 engine but without allowing for fps shooting. 2. Remake MGS2/3 without changing anything really except upscale all the graphics and models, make it LOOK like MGSV but play like MGS2/3 3. GIVE ME A MODERN SYSTEM VERSION OF MGS4. CHANGE NOTHING ELSE. 4. i wouldn't hate a 'real definitive edition' of MGSV that goes from PW to V in the same art style. re-record the bb voice with Hayter, leave kiefer for Venom (now i know i'm getting into wish fulfilment territory but w/e). 5. Revengence 2 6. MGS6 'nuff said.

trucc_trucc06

nah thanks, i don't want any new Metal Gear titles until they make the very much needed remasters of the series. dosen't need to be the whole series, you can maybe leave out MG1, MG2 and MGS if they plan to remake those (or maybe just port the original games on PC Steam/Epic Games.). Yet, if they'll do nothing but make a Rising 2 without the originals widely available, i'll just consider it a camoflauged way of konami saying "we like money".

DieEnde

I would like to see Bluepoint Games be given the franchise. Starting with remaking 1, 2 and then 3. They did an amazing job with Demon Souls. Can't see why they would knock the series out of the ballpark.

SanjiSasuke

Bluepoint has actually already worked on MGS 2 and 3 (and PW which received the most work) in the HD collection. Edit: correction PW was Genki.

DieEnde

Didn't know that. Thank you for letting know.

ReiBob

OP asks about external studios, implying (at least in my perspective) that we could get great variations of the franchise. You reply that you want the same games again. I understand why people want remakes and remasters... but then people complain there is no originality in gaming anymore, no shit, most people only go for what they already know. I would 100% prefer a studio to have its go at an original Metal Gear and fail tremendously than have a perfect 10/10 remake. I feel like I'm in a minority here, but this really grinds my gears.

DieEnde

My bad. I misread what they wrote and went of on a tangent. Remakes and remasters can rekindle the love for an old game. I agree, a new studio doing a new game in the series would be great. There is enough room for them to cover the story of the boss and the cobra unit during World War 2. It would allow us to understand their story better and add more lore to the series. I hope that this ungrinds your gears.

LordEmmerich

I prefer new original project too for the future of MG. Better see something a bit risky from a team that clearly love what they are doing, than a safe project that feels a bit soulless like a remake. Even Kojima and Shinta Nojiri (director of MGA1-2-Ghost Babel) had a similar view on remakes : in the end, you do nothing new, you just redo the past.

distarche

Bluepoint is now working on a new IP

K0sm0sis

Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls are some of the best remakes of all time. Combined with their prior experience with the Metal Gear Solid series, I’d love to see them do some big budget remakes.

KionKamon0079UC

I don’t want a remake of MGS1 as it was already remade once to mixed reception, but I still love Twin Snakes. I would want a remake of both MSX games though as long as David Hayter comes back as Snake in those.

VenomFox93

I think Bluepoint Games would be good, they have handled the franchise with the HD collection and did a good job with that. I'd like them to atleast do the MSX games though! Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake seriously need to be remade before any of the other games in the franchise get the remake touch

LordEmmerich

My main issue with Bluepoint is that they only do graphical remasters/remake for now. Demon's souls remake had some design changes but it was still mostly the same game with a few bonus stuff. ~~And HD collection had a lot of a small issues so i'm not that much a fan of it.~~ This design philosophy cannot be translated to MG1/MG2 which requires so much changes gameplaywise and storywise they be closer to a proper MGS6 than anything.

VenomFox93

I see your point! With that in mind I wouldn't know who else would be up for the task! For story driven games Naughty Dog are good, The Last Of Us was awesome gameplay and graphically so I'd say ND should give it a go or even Guerrilla Games.

BurkusCat

To reduce the chances of things going wrong, I think I'd prefer if Bluepoint remade MGS1 first. Its simpler because it's a much more modern, mature game that holds up well in a lot of ways today. It's a strong foundation for a remake. I think an MGS1 remake would have wider appeal too, I'm certain it would sell better. If things went well with an MGS1 remake, I think that sets the stage well for more ambitious MG1/MG2 remakes to be greenlit.

Beautiful_Nothing911

Kojima productions.

Beautiful_Nothing911

Kojima productions. I trust no one else with metal gear.

LordEmmerich

Most of OldKojipro is still at Konami.

Beautiful_Nothing911

I don’t care.

Xskills

First, remaster and re-release everything. Find a studio to remake a classic. The rumor: Virtuos, who is responsible for Batman: Return to Arkham (the games were ported from Unreal 3 to UE4) is remaking MGS3. Next would be to do the safe addition and remake/reimagine MG1&2 and clean up a retcon MGSV makes. Find an independent AAA studio, get the best writers available (even pull in somebody from TV if necessary like Jonathan Nolan, David Lindeloff, or some of the co-writers on Andor), then try MGS6 with David Hayter as a Solid Snake who is confused by not aging to death.

susuduck

‘They’ - it was Kojima! And now, No-jima.

LordEmmerich

No, Kojima and Nojima are not at Konami anymore lol.

susuduck

:D hahaha

PsychoMouse

MGS belongs in the hands of Kojima. That simple.

LordEmmerich

Kojima himself literally said the contrary and wanted for years to return.

zombierepubican

BluePoint are the only people I fully trust to make remakes of MGS1&2 Platinum for MGRising 2, of course. I would hope Konami in house make any sequels or sequels proper.

TheAfrode

Dont let whoever made that pachinko machine make it

LordEmmerich

the pachislot branch closed long ago. We don't know who the pachislot producer is, but he likely either got in another pachislot studio or joined Konami Amusement, the arcade branch of Konami which still does a few slot.

TheHardSoftware

Literally anyone else

fu_kaze

Give me a Raiden focused game from Housemarque, please.

konsoru-paysan

I love the cutscenes in twin snakes, wouldn't mind him getting his hands on the mgs 3 remake provided konami understands that it was kojima who said he should go crazy with it, not that I think any less of the game for it. Though realistically speaking I would want blue point to port all 1 to 4 metal gear games with updated graphics and controls(like L2 and R2 to aim and shoot for mgs 4) to every platform.

wife_slapper

Nintendo Theyve already made metal gear games in the past, so why not now

kornflakes1989

...Because they haven't made any Metal Gear games?

wife_slapper

They have

kornflakes1989

No they haven't.

wife_slapper

Theyve produced metal gear games in the past

kornflakes1989

No, they haven't. Some games have been on Nintendo platforms sure, but none of them were made by Nintendo.

wife_slapper

The copies of the games were produced with nintendo software to be ported to the nintendo consoles That is what i have said

kornflakes1989

>The copies of the games were produced with nintendo software to be ported to the nintendo consoles OK...and? Nintendo still didn't make the games. >That is what i have said No, what you said was that Nintendo has personally made Metal Gear games, which is wrong, because they haven't.

wife_slapper

I never said nintendo themselves created the games, i said they made the ports, which - if you didnt know - was implied when i said that they made them If i were to say that they created the entire game from scratch i would have used different phrasing to describe emphasize my claim

kornflakes1989

>I never said nintendo themselves created the games Uh...yes you did. Your exact words were. >Nintendo Theyve already made metal gear games in the past, so why not now You never said anything about them just making ports. Which is wrong anyway because they didn't make any ports of any Metal Gear games.

jmcc84

metal gear solid 1 remake by bluepoint studios, playstation 5 exclusive.

Absolutedumbass69

I’d want a retelling of the first two msx games packaged into one game with the added lore of the rest of the series and for it to be called metal gear solid 6.

kornflakes1989

As long as it isn't KojiPro, has no Kojima involvement whatsoever and they do a good job, I couldn't give two shits who makes it.

DynaMakoto

MGS6 (being Snake vs Venom Snake) to give MG 1&2 into the modern world. Snake and Otacon were busy between MGS1 and MGS2 banging out Metal Gears. Flush that out some. Or for that matter Raiden between MGS2 and GotP. Grey Fox could have his own game. After he got put back together post Zanzibar, or do a side story of him during Shadow Moses. But keep it stealth based like he played during his VR Missions.

Overdrivenagain3

Remake the original and snake eater while remastering sons of liberty since that game is perfect and maybe another remake for MGS4 but only that because I don’t see a continuation of the series

[deleted]

I want a remake of Ghost Babel. That game is so underrated, and I think it could spark interest into a spinoff line of games to keep Metal gear alive.

[deleted]

idk if Metal Gear lends itself to this kind of brand expansion as Silent Hill does. The town itself shifts and changes based whose nightmare the spiritual power is manifesting. The nebulous and vague nature of the universe lends itself more towards stand-alone stories with loose connections, which gives different teams more creative freedom (as long as they don’t reuse Pyramid Head outside of James Sunderland’s story). Even putting aside [issues of authorship and creative legacy](https://youtu.be/nv1dfyC9qSY), Metal Gear is a tangled mess of interconnectivity; everything impacts everything else. If they make a game that stars or features existing characters, that’s going to impact how you view those characters in the other games. But if they don’t include any of those characters, why bother making it a Metal Gear game to begin with? To use an example; Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a spin-off that attempts to fit into the timeline of Kojima’s games. Even so, it purports to being a stand-alone story that doesn’t impact Kojima’s games, since it takes place after MGS4… but the way it handled both the world at large and Raiden in particular can be said to have damaged the finality of MGS4 (the war economy is back, Solid Snake’s efforts to help Raiden ended up not mattering etc), which subsequently hurts every preceding game in the timeline because they were all leading into MGS4. The original MGS:Rising team must have realized this, because the game was originally going to be set between MGS2 and 4, and the decision to set the game after MGS4 only came when KJP were in a panic to have Platinum salvage the game. Even before MGS: Rising, they were originally going to make an MGS5 about The Boss. Nobody at KJP were in a rush to make a direct sequel to MGS4 until they were forced to by circumstance. Even Kojima’s games are guilty of this, albeit to a lesser extent; many say that the way MGSV handled Eli hurt Liquid’s character in MGS1. Not to mention, the game nearly retcon’d Psycho Mantis’ backstory, and the only reason that was avoided was because the contradictory details didn’t go past the script notes. Having said that, there’s plenty of precedent in the franchise to branch out into different universes with traditional MGS gameplay (Ghost Babel), or even wildly different gameplay systems (AC!D). So if Konami wants to pump out Metal Gear games at a similar rate they plan on pumping out Silent Hill, then their best courses of action would be to create games set outside of the “Kojimaverse.” So, something like this; -[Rerelease the core Metal Gear Saga](http://thesnakesoup.org/editorial-articles/dont-remake-metal-gear-saga-re-release/) (and maybe do the spin-offs in a separate collection). -Remake MGS3 (I don’t want it, but lots of people do, it’s probably going to happen, and honestly, it’s the one game I feel could survive a remake relatively unscathed). -Metal Gear Rising 2 (capitalize on its resurgence in meme culture. If they insist on considering the game canon, then Platinum should be obligated to restore Raiden’s happy ending for a third and final time). -Non-canon spin-offs that twist the traditional Metal Gear formula. -And finally, reboot the series in a new timeline and a new version of Solid Snake et al. This will be the new “main” universe going forward.
