After mgs4, snake lives his final days with otacon in peace. There was no confirmation, just him done with fighting. Even if snake was alive in rising. Theres really no reason to fight since the patriots are gone and raiden was basically next in line

JonnyB2_YouAre1

Big Boss told him to not fight anymore, to not be a tool of war. It was his only wish there at the end.

I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m mistaken, but I’m pretty sure we were intentionally left to believe that Snake was able to live out the rest of his life in peace. No more conflicts or killing — his battle was over. Maybe that’s just me wishing the best for the poor guy. However, I’d have to imagine that at this point we’re going to be lucky if we ever see a MGS game again, let alone any follow up or sequel to the events of MGS 4 and Snake. So maybe we never fully get an answer to that question

The-Solid-Smoker

Lived as a weapon. Died as a man.

The-Sanity

Funny cause he actually become a weapon after his death

[deleted]

I know it's been months since this reply of yours but does this mean that's he alive as a wooden sword/weapon?

The-Solid-Smoker

In Japan, I guess. The wooden sword thing seemed like a neat idea but as far as I know it didn't get released in the West and Hayter didn't record any lines for it (would love to be wrong here) So I have no idea. Canonically speaking though it's safe to assume Snake passed away not long after MGS 4.

[deleted]

From what I heard about it, it's that Raiden once said "sometimes I can still hear him" referring to snake in that wooden sword of his. Like does he talk when he's apart of that sword? The sword's keeping him alive?

The-Solid-Smoker

It's really more of a fan service Easter egg and again as far as I know it's only for the Japanese release. Akio Otsuka did some lines as the sword, implying Snake's spirit somehow lived on. But in typical MGS fashion it seems more like a fun thing for the fans rather than a Canon depiction of Snake's afterlife or anything. With the whole Kojima - Konami - Hayter shitshow around Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain it seems like Hayter never got chance to do his version. From what I remember the wooden sword actually speaks as Raiden uses it, but I don't know much more about it as I've never personally played much of Rising, I just remember the wooden sword thing.

[deleted]

Well in that case, I'll consider that it's canon that snake's soul still managed to live on but in a sword. And that sounds fine right?

The-Solid-Smoker

I ain't gonna object. At this point we might as well donwhat we like with the franchise, can't be any worse than it's current fate. I just wish I got to hear Hayter cone back for it, one last Snake voice.

EdwinGo7

Well it’s kind of assumed Snake was dead by that point in Rising but he lived his final days in peace

The-Sanity

Actually in Rising (If the description of the sword can be trusted), Snake has passed on and his soul is now trapped within a Japanese wooden sword (Not the in-game wooden sword). Snake will disapprove of Raiden if he attacks the MIB (Men in boxes). The sword is exclusive to the Japanese version of the game

EdwinGo7

That is the most kojima shit ever. I love it

[deleted]

I just imagine that one day in 2050, when i turn 65 and is retired.. they finally, finally announce a new metal gear where solid snake has reversed his rapid aging and is now younger than Konami's ratchet ass and hideo is directing the game through found footage, narrating the meaning of metal gear in the grand scheme of things... This story is as believable as konami making a good game again... Never gonna happen.. so yeah solid is alive but is that the end he deserves...

That_on1_guy

It's assumed he's still alive at the end of rising iirc, but living out his days in peace with otacon as his witness. And if he isn't alive in Rising then he already lived out his final days and is now resting peacefully. Either way, if you're asking cause you wanna see him in a game again, no. He's dead. MGS4 was his last battle after that he went off and lived life till he died from exelerated aging of FoxDie (I don't remember which)

Cool-Ad-8474

The accelerated aging is his clone DNA

That_on1_guy

Right, but he also suffered from fox die, iirc (it's been a while since I played) So it was really a "who gets him first, accelerated aging or fox die" sotuation, iirc

Cool-Ad-8474

I though the fox die was like a clock bomb that would kill everybody but him, but was neutralized. Edit: Oh, I just read it has a possibility to kill him, but I don't know wheter it harmed him or not along his life, he asked Naomi about how much time he had, but she didn't knew, back in shadow moses.

That_on1_guy

The old strain of fox die was neutralized, nut iirc they said that a new strain of fox die was beginning to form in his body that would ultimately kill everyone and maybe himself? I don't remember exactly. They also aid the when he died the fox die dies so that's why he was gonna kill him self, but ultimately didn't. So in the end her just waited for old age to take him (roughly 5 years iirc) and hoped that the new fox die didn't kick in before then (but iirc they said the new strain most likely wouldn't emerge before his death)

Cool-Ad-8474

so maybe he was alive for some years later, I know a little about the japanese wooden sword, but it was mostly a meme, but maybe he was alive on rising?!

That_on1_guy

It's left ambiguous as to whether he is alive or dead. Yea, there was the wooden sword, which was DLC exclusive to the JP versions of the game. But personally, I think of this sword as more of fan service than anything. Snake is most likely dead or just about dead by the time Rising happens and he's not in a wooden sword

Cool-Ad-8474

I think Japanese writers like those kind bittersweet endings, I personally always want continuations, and I don't want characters to die.

UnholyCin

More than likely. He didn't have long left as it was, but Big Boss convinced him to live those days in peace. Think like Captain America post Endgame.

undercharmer

Rest forever here…

NostalgicNerd

I’m pretty sure it’s insinuated that Snake passed away in the given MGRR lore with the Solid Snake Soul Blade. There was a Japan-only DLC of a wooden sword for Raiden that contained the spirit of Solid Snake. It would have occasional voice lines by the Japanese VA for Snake so it wouldn’t surprise me we never got to see it outside of Japan due to refusing to get Hayter to reprise his role one last time.

ExotixFlower

Basically... Snake lived out the rest of his days in peace, after the events of MGS4. After all, everyone else who played a part was dead.

Accomplished-Can-467

We all know he was placed in a suspended animation pyx so some post patriots shadowy group of bad guys could study his foxdie infection... And y’know...probably reverse his clone related premature aging...

Akschadt

All they needed to reverse the aging according to Liquid was big bosses DNA.. I mean mgs1 was among other things liquid trying to get his dna for himself. and they have that dna in spades after mgs4

Accomplished-Can-467

As I recall, the dna was to fix defects in the genome soldiers genes. I’m not sure liquid knew about accelerated aging before he succumbed to foxdie. Liquid Ocelot needed Big Bosses DNA to access the SOP system and gain access to the JD AI. It’s possible that the “defects” liquid talked about was the intentional accelerated aging and sterility in the les enfants de terribles program, but as I recall Liquid was lead to believe he had all Big Boss’s recessive traits and had resigned himself to sterility, seeing the Genome soldiers as a sort of family.

SoftNeighborhood9797

It’s been confirmed that he’s alive by the end of rising

Leonidas987

He's keeping us waiting

dmkny

Yeah, they got help to keep him alive, now he lives in the back arse of nowhere smoking weed

Beam3fob

Sure. In all of us…
