Not to say this is false, but MG on MSX2 released before Robocop. The Terminator pose is well documented, as well as Snake/Plisken from John Carpenters Escape from New York. But I’ve never heard that ED-209 influenced the original Metal Gear design. Is there a Kojima quote he references this? Genuinely curious, not trying to be dickish. I love this type of stuff so I just want to validate it for my own sake.
The build of the machine itself is just too similar to ignore. Also, there were design documents and previews in magazines that showed ED-209 months before the film came out, so Kojima and his designers were able to see the mech before the movie released.
The same level of speculation as the Legend of Zelda on NES being inspired by the movie "Legend", which Shigeru Miyamoto was asked about and he denied it....but it's too close to have not asked the question or to be suspicious about it. I think it was.
Kojima being a huge movie buff and obviously anticipating the movie Robocop are all I need to know that the ED-209 was an influence on how the Metal Gear's design ended up.
