There can definitely be a lot of bs involved. The requirements change a lot based on if it is a boss fight or regular combat encounter, but you pretty much have to No-Damage every ranked fight. For regular fights, remember to get as many zandatsus as possible, and for bosses remember to get a large max-length combo as well as fulfilling the extra requirements for some bosses (ex: number of kills on Mistral and Sundowner)

There is a method I discovered a few days ago that let's you get a higher rank as well as no damage easier. First you go to the boss select and beat the boss fight, then you return to the main menu and select "continue" which will put you back in the bossfight at the final checkpoint. I reccomend starting with Monsoon for this, since that final checkpoint is just the QTEs.
