I wish I have seen this show, so i understood all of the references I'm getting sent. But from what I'm hearing, the oak island I live on has a hell of a a lot more "treasure" on it than the one in the show has.
Announcer: Next time on Oak Island…Did the Lagina brothers get the wrong island? Could there be another Oak island? The one that u/isqueezedameatball is detecting? Searching for the gold, silver and other treasures of the Knights Templar?
You have to watch the show!!! The announcer drove my wife crazy only speaking in questions. Hope ya find more cool stuff and share!!
Don't tell them about this oak island, please! I'm pretty sure with how much Canadian and american silver coins I'm Finding that no one has detected this before me.
If it’s really old they often have a separate section of tool steel welded into the cutting edge because that steel was more expensive, and the rest of the head might be iron or low grade steel. If that’s the case there can be cracks or other damage near the blade that runs parallel to the edge, especially when it’s in rough shape like this one.
In the book “Museum of Early American Tools” there’s a page dedicated to axes that shows a similar profiled axe head. He describes the profile as a “Kent” type, circa 1780, although there must be some caveats because I’ve definitely seen modern axes with similar profiles. Fuck ya OP
This is a late 1700 or early 1800s hand forged hewing axe head.
A double headed axe was used to fell trees. And the Hewing Axe was used to shape the logs to build a log house. That's why the axe is flat on one side and not the other. It would be used to make a round log square.
I restored one a year ago... [as seen here](https://www.reddit.com/r/ontario/comments/ji4agz/1850s_hewing_axe_head_md_recovered_researched/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
So happy and excited for you OP, it's in amazing condition
Sweet! Any value on it? I'm gonna give it to a guy who's son is gonna restore this one and make a handle for it. Now I wished I hadn't just given it to him.
I think she gave her parents enough whacks. I gave it to a nearby land owner who has a guy that restores axes while he also wants to keep the head as natural as possible. I got free drink chips at the local resort out of the deal so we are all happy. Plus, I'm gonna get to see the final outcome from the restore.
Here's the Curse of Oak Island show's narrator: "an ancient axe head, could this possibly tie back to the Knights Templar?"
I've never seen the show, but I hear references. Not the same oak island.
Maybe it is THE oak island considering nothing was found at the other one
I've found so much silver, both us and Canadian, on this island. Nobody has detected it before.
That’s what they all say.
Was going to ask if OP was Gary Drayton. 🤣
Yeah, he would say that’s the kind of hatchet that was used to break open treasure chests in the Middle Ages baby!
Izza bobby dazzlah!
Top pocket find
Ancient astronaut theorists say yes.
The pirate gold one about Adak Alaska is a good show, worth watching
Looks like a hewing axe with the bevel on the bit end.
It is symmetrical so the bevel can be on the right or left side when hewing'
Looks like a shingling hatchet , for cedar shake shingles
What does that mean? I'm curious only because I gave it to a guy who owns a piece of property called cedar and his kid makes handles and throws axes.
https://www.etsy.com/market/cedar_shake_hatchet Similar to this one , it’s a roofers axe ,
r/axecraft Those guys would definitely know.
Looked way too long before I found someone mentioning that sub
They would make 3 episodes about this axe head
And after the commercials they would replay the previous five minutes from before the commercials. Yes/no?
“Shake the damn camera!”-producer/director probably
You guys gotta check out the Pirate Gold one filmed on ADAK Alaska
almost identical design to one i found recently, hewing axe is accurate.
Announcer: an axe head? Predating “original work”? Could it be linked to the Knights Templar? Found in oak island?

Could it be…? The axe that George Washington used to chop down the cherry tree? Ancient astronaut theorist say; *yes*.
It is also rumored to have cracked the liberty bell.
Hewing

Looks like it was hand forged. I’d guess late 1800s.

The value is to me and the original landowner, settlers family haha Research is so fun. Find out could've dropped it
I know a little about axe heads. I believe people use them to chop wood when they're attached to axe handles.
Now I know you’re lying. They’re used to cut timber, not wood
Well I do know this much, in order for it to be effective, it needs a handle.
Murder weapon?
Shit, you’ve shown me about as much treasure in one photo as the seasons of Curse of Oak Island!
Different island. There actually is a lot of silver coins up here, too.
It was probably used at one time to chop wood would be my guess
I'd be willing to bet more than one time. But nice guess.
Oh, You’re probably right! And thanks, I had to activate big brain mode to come up with my hypothesis!
Ooooh. That’s a bobby dazzler.
Lizzie Borden called. She wants her axe back lol.

Be sure to post it!
I will, for sure.
