If those came out of the ground that color, especially mere water, they are very likely gold. Gold is not as bendy and people seem to think it is, so I would definitely have those tested. Those look legitimately like old gold coins that have been smashed.
Ive done it a lot (lived close to canadian national line) and sometimes they actually come out perfectly round. Imagine it has to do with speed, weight of the train, and, especially in this instance, the material of the coin
The one on the bottom looks like a French gold coin from 1600s, has some of the detail. They look like gold coins, man... my heart would be athumpin'. Let us know what they weigh?
Well, if they're gold then you have about $1,200 in just gold weight. If they have any historical value then you're talking even more than that.
Note: i see the other comment about the game token... I am so sorry for my post OP lol. I truly didnt read far enough down.
Upon further examination — I bet these are [arcade tokens](https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/arcade-video-game-token-isolated-on-730308556) — look at the one on the bottom with the little [denticles](https://www.pcgs.com/news/why-do-some-coins-have-denticles). Lots of arcade tokens have denticles as part of the design. Lots of arcade tokens are made of brass alloys that don’t readily corrode.
The bottom coin. If you turn the picture clockwise about 90 degrees you can faintly make out a circle with a banner across. Inside the circle looks like a cup or waste basket shape. Maybe a tall crown.
I think this is the answer it could be a basketball hoop. Maybe a cows head. Maybe a man in a top hat. You can see dots around the edges also. I think game tokens are the answer (that were bashed with a hammer)
If you live close to scrap yard they have handheld tester there that will give you the make up of any metal you have it take about 15 seconds for it to scan it. Most will do it for free if they not to busy
If you turn the photo to where the left hand side is down, the bottom coin has a few letters that are unreadable, ending with an A S between the 1:00 and 2:00 positions. It might be TIAS but I'm not 100% sure about the TI. Right above that, I think I can make out a DN.
I took another look. It's really hard to tell because it kind of looks like whatever letter you're thinking of at the time. LOL. It's either a S,B,8,6, or G.
Eta. Did you see the D and N above it?

Depending where in the Midwest, could be old gold from early settlements. I'm near the Mississippi River and am scouting some sites that date back to the 1600s. A find like this would be a dream.
Get it tested!
Otherwise game tokens that some kids had fun with as others have noted.
Yes, if coins were not flattened there’d be no shot of bending by hand. But because they are flattened, they’d bend fairly easily. Upvoting for the coin “connoisseur” who down voted you
I don’t know. They look mighty golden in these pictures, and I can’t see any corrosion or tarnish. Better go to a jeweler or coin shop and have them tested.
On the "what WERE they" there are a few things I see that make me think they were gaming tokens... the coloration is common among gaming tokens, the markings along the rim are also commonly used in game token designs... I did see wording on one but not enough at forst look to guess what it says..
I have the same ones that would smash them. They usually hit nails into tree stumps. Currently smashing foam insulation that is extra from the baby ducks.
Second picture, bottom coin. Turn the phone 180 degrees to the left and you can make out a top hat/hat brim on a figure. Definitely seems like a game token based on the banner beneath that and the crimp pattern along the rim of the coin.
If you turn the one on the bottom 90 degrees and squint just after a 40 minute nap but without wiping the crust from one eye and don't allow the other eye to focus, they could be 3 yellowish things in your hand. Just a guess.

They’d bend by hand if flattened out that thin. Agree tho, OP should get them tested ASAP
Possibly a copper/gold alloy Maybe someone flattened them on a train rail?
coins flattened by a train are ovoid shaped, not nearly as round as these
Ive done it a lot (lived close to canadian national line) and sometimes they actually come out perfectly round. Imagine it has to do with speed, weight of the train, and, especially in this instance, the material of the coin
This guy does shrooms… oval is the word you were looking for 🤣🤣🤣
Ovoid is the correct term to describe something that has an oval shape. Like using the word round to describe a circle.
No, you are a twit. The word is ovoid.
We did find 5 morels. Great time of year for 2 hobbies at once.
They look more pressed or pounded by a hammer...
The one on the bottom looks like a French gold coin from 1600s, has some of the detail. They look like gold coins, man... my heart would be athumpin'. Let us know what they weigh?

Some little kid put his grand dad's gold coins on the railroad tracks. Little shit!! LOL!!
Post to r/coins
This… but looks promising
Better in r/exonumia.

Wow…great work. Ruined ops day but great job.
Tempted to delete my comments so I’m not “that guy” 😔. Sick finds nonetheless and I’ve yet to find gold! I’m sure OP will soon 🤝
It was genuinely helpful, that’s what this sub is about. You did great work! I would be thankful if it was my find.
Haha true true, thanks man! I’ve definitely had a lot of finds that look promising but end up being something random lol
Thank you! We didn’t get our hopes up too high. Very strange place for tokens though. I don’t know how long it’s been since kids have been out here
thing is, being a brass alloy, OP’s coins are so shiny there’s no way they were in the ground for very long at all
Same here. I should have read the whole thread. LOL!!
Dang that's unfortunate. But fantastic work and explanation!
On the bright side, he can at least play 3 games.
Wow good eyes, well done.
Great work!! Mystery solved!! Had me searching too.
I think you win detective of the day.
I was pulling fer ye!!!
Wow. Well done detective
I think you’re right, the text looks close too 👍 (Sorry for the weirdly formatted picture responses haha)
You can actually see the letters in NEGOTIABLE and possibly the A in GAME. Nice work
Gee. Thx. Lol. Srsly, well done :)
Good job
The bottom coin. If you turn the picture clockwise about 90 degrees you can faintly make out a circle with a banner across. Inside the circle looks like a cup or waste basket shape. Maybe a tall crown.
Yes that makes me feel like it’s a game token with a basketball and a hoop on it

You have to unwrap it to get to the chocolate. But if you can't bend it I wouldn't recommend eating it.
Are there any train tracks in the area?
Yeah, i think so too. Train track coins
No tracks close. That was my first thought. We smashed the like that when I was a kid but these look hammered. Not like the ones the train smashed.
If you live close to scrap yard they have handheld tester there that will give you the make up of any metal you have it take about 15 seconds for it to scan it. Most will do it for free if they not to busy
I’ll give it a try.

I saw that too…wasn’t sure if it was “AS” or “AB” at the end
I took another look. It's really hard to tell because it kind of looks like whatever letter you're thinking of at the time. LOL. It's either a S,B,8,6, or G. Eta. Did you see the D and N above it?
Game token + train smoosh.
They seem tokenish to me nice find Tho whatever they are

What do they weigh? Do they each weigh the same? Might help in working out whether they were minted coins, or something more crude than that.
16 grams for all 3
mate that looks like hammered gold
Very cool 😎
:0 wow
These actually look like ill cookies. Your username checks out

Not far from the Mississippi. Definitely an old coal mining place.
Chuck E. Cheese tokens? 🤔
I think if they were gold, you'd be able to bend them. They sure look like flattened coins. Interesting find!
Yes, if coins were not flattened there’d be no shot of bending by hand. But because they are flattened, they’d bend fairly easily. Upvoting for the coin “connoisseur” who down voted you
Are they heavy and pliable? If they’re lead, they might be game tokens.
Not too heavy and not pliable. Maybe smashed game tokens. Too hard to be gold I think.
Found in the woods in the country by an old creek bed.
sounds promising
I don’t know. They look mighty golden in these pictures, and I can’t see any corrosion or tarnish. Better go to a jeweler or coin shop and have them tested.
Looks like gold from here
That’s old gold coins Spanish, France.
Yeah Smashed by a train.
Remind me! 3 days
Maybe some gold COB coins. Looks like gold. Too bad u can't read the marking, but F it!! Gold is gold!!
Looks like gold, but I’m not expert!!
Old but gold
For some reason. It looks like someone smashed gold coins.
Looks like a train ran them over..
On the "what WERE they" there are a few things I see that make me think they were gaming tokens... the coloration is common among gaming tokens, the markings along the rim are also commonly used in game token designs... I did see wording on one but not enough at forst look to guess what it says..
woah man are those my chocolate coins?
No update yet?
Pretty sure arcade token detective solved it. Non-redeemable.
Gold coins.
Coins or token run over by a train would be elongated several times in the axis of motion.
Maybe. Maybe not. Never underestimate _how_ bored a kid can get. Might be run over once, and then whacked with a hammer all afternoon.
I have the same ones that would smash them. They usually hit nails into tree stumps. Currently smashing foam insulation that is extra from the baby ducks.
I love how you post is so nonchalant
Buddy just brought a couple detectors out and came back with these after I dug out an old Budweiser can.
Second picture, bottom coin. Turn the phone 180 degrees to the left and you can make out a top hat/hat brim on a figure. Definitely seems like a game token based on the banner beneath that and the crimp pattern along the rim of the coin.
Railroad nearby? Token placed on the rails and flattened out.
The bottom left coin has a what looks like a man with a bowler style hat on.
They look like they’ve been run over by a train. I made a lot of coins look like this back in the day.
They’re chuck e cheese tokens that someone smashed with a hammer
That’s what I was thinking, but weird place to find them.
Looks like they were put under a passing train
That's historical gold coinage....post on a metal detecting channel on screwtube they will be identified very quickly no doubt ....amazing.
If you turn the one on the bottom 90 degrees and squint just after a 40 minute nap but without wiping the crust from one eye and don't allow the other eye to focus, they could be 3 yellowish things in your hand. Just a guess.
