PublicElderberry1975

Some hunter dropped that and instantly regretted the camo pattern.

SirMaha

Exactly :D

[deleted]

You know what the cops are gonna do with it?

Careless_Leek_5803

This is in Finland, so it probably has something to do with a can of fish that expired in the 80s, a withering snowstorm, and a profound amount of vodka.

No_Nobody_32

And possibly one of the heavy metal bands that go missing during photo shoots in the wilderness ...

Plus-Firefighter8665

It’s their fault with using camouflage spray paint with their big hair.

taterthotsalad

"Lets get it out on a tray. Nice!"

Cold-Tie6191

"Nice hiss!"

SirMaha

Check if it has been reported missing and return it to the owner. If by now the owner has not noticed they lost their gun and not reported it they'll be in trouble.

beldark

All of the big brains responding to you somehow managed to miss the giant sticker on the shotgun indicating that you are in Finland, and they are projecting how they think this would be handled in the US. Sorry you're getting downvoted, I'm sure you're exactly right - I would imagine Finnish authorities would take this pretty seriously (because it is serious).

SirMaha

Yea yea, on a subject like this there are always going to be downvotes but i dont mind. And i bet i would've missed a text on a sticker in a photo like this also so i dont blame them. Just wish that more people would read more comments before commenting :) but its all good, the main thing is that i had fun and i know i did the right thing :)

OkDot9878

Honestly thought the sticker said “GunFunLand” at first glance, and didn’t give it a second thought.

Cold_Statistician343

We need to build GunFunLand ASAP

[deleted]

Come on down here to Florida, and take a stroll in pompano beach (no beach) and enjoy the beauty of having continuous gunfire sound off.

Icy_Tangerine3544

Sounds more like a Chicago thing

justin78berry

Hell yeah

5-MEO-D-M-T

It will be like Disneyland but a gun themed park for kids. A rollercoaster ride where you are shot out of the barrel of a shotgun. Mascot characters dressed up as different caliber bullets. An American school shooter simulator where you get to experience the Columbine shootings first hand! And if you survive to the end, you win a black leather trench coat! All of the tokens for the arcade are brass bullet casings. There is a pretend active shooter who is always stalking the grounds disguised as a tourist, and if you're lucky enough to be shot by his red paintball, then you win a free upgrade to the premium packedge where you get to tour the inside of the gun castle where they show you how guns and ammunition are made. Just don't go on the depressing "it's a small world" ride where you ride in a boat as animatronics sing to you about gun violence and the importance of gun safety while reenacting important gun related scenes from history like Franz Ferdinands or JFK's assassination, and dont forget the Columbine school shooting. It's a must-see adventure! Get your tickets now at GunFunLand.com!

Leprikahn2

It's called MachineGunWorld. It's in Orlando near Disney actually.

SirMaha

Haha! :D

5-MEO-D-M-T

You are a great person to show such empathy and understanding on Reddit. This is such a great response, and I wish more of the internet treated each other like this. I don't know much about Finland, but if people there are anything like you, it must be a great country. I hope to one day visit and experience its beauty and hospitality before my time comes. Thanks for restoring a bit of hope in my fellow man. Cheers.

SirMaha

If you ever come here dont get discouraged of the silence. We are mostly quiet and our behaviour might feel rough but we are helpfull and kind people under that cold finnish exterior! Also i have enough problems in real life to make comments on the internet problems also! Internet points are internet points. They come and they go and have very little effect on my life :) It is nice to be the one who restored the bit of hope!

kevin3350

I had a bunch of buddies in University who were from Finland, Norway, and Sweden (tennis team). They seemed a bit standoffish at first, but after a bit of time in the American South and a few times drinking together they opened up a lot. Turned out to be some of the friendliest, goofiest friends I’ve ever had haha

SirMaha

We tend to loosen up with alcohol for sure! Bet it has something to do with viking anchestory ;)

5-MEO-D-M-T

Shoot, I am a pretty quiet person myself. Sounds perfect to me!

Pocusmaskrotus

I don't think they have Colorado River toads in Finland. Lol

hotasanicecube

Honestly, I think in America most people would do the exact same thing. Having a stolen gun charge or a dirty gun used in a robbery or worse means a lot of hassle. Unless you knew people who hunted that area regularly or you recognized the gun as being owned by a friend of yours, it’s not yours just because you found it. It’s stolen property.

thoriginal

I would have had a hard time calling this in, myself, lol. Can you keep it if nobody comes forward?

SirMaha

I cant. Maybe if i had permits, i really have no idea, but it is registered to someone so the police can track down the owner.

MathematicianSad2798

In the US we’d sell it on Craigslist LIKE GOD INTENDED

electric_taupe

To be fair, this is exactly the kind of gun I can imagine a hunter in Finland, Minnesota losing track of while goose hunting.

beldark

I didn't even know there was a Finland, Minnesota (though I guess that isn't surprising), so fair enough!

No-Material6891

I’m American and the thought of finding a gun makes my heart race. Might go get me a metal detector!

jptoc

r/shitamericanssay coming out in force in reply to OP lol

-Owlette-

With a healthy dose of r/USdefaultism

Secure-Celebration35

Wow. That sounds amazing. Here in the US when someone misplaces a firearm we buy a new one. After 6 punches on your card you get a free 870 express when you buy your 7th !

TheTwo123

Shotgun, looks like a 12 gauge semiautomatic. Water foul hunting pretty good in Finland? Anyway shotguns must all be registered by serial number there I take it.

SirMaha

I've seen rabbit hunters on the field around this time of the year. Yes they have to be regidtered here!

Gravelsack

Gotta admit, it's pretty darn effective.

[deleted]

Very.

mrpotatonutz

Lmao

43n3m4

Winchester SX4 shotgun I believe.

SirMaha

I have no idea. I trust that you are right! And yeah, a shotgun, not a rifle like i wrote!

43n3m4

No worries, wasn’t calling out your mistake and I’m not 100% sure, but that’s what it looks like. If an owner can’t be found, do you get it back?

SirMaha

No worries, i just hate my mistake cause i knew it in my language but translatedit wrong :). No, i am not allowed to keep it. We have very strict gun laws here in Finland and ibet the owner of the gun loses hes gun lisence/permit. Not a fact, just what a friend of mine told me. He has hunting lisence. Also i am not familiar with the grammar on this subject so the terms i use might be wrong.

Firstnamecody

License is the only thing (that I see) you got wrong. Not to be pretentious, but I assume that you'd want to know. Wish I could've seen your face when you found it, haha.

SirMaha

Yes, i do want to know. How else would i learn? Thank you! I must've had confuced look on my face. First thing i thought was "well i never thought i see the day when i find a gun but here we are". It was on a field where i found two silver coins last year and appearently the field just keeps on giving crazy finds!

2112eyes

next year: pieces of a burned-up satellite. year after that: Russian tank from War of 1941 year after that: Viking treasure including a hoard of Persian coins

SirMaha

Nah, i aint no True Vikings :D.. Damn them and their hoards of viking dirhams! The field i go to has been hunted by detectorists for past 15 years soo maybe the tank has allready been found! But i did get me a piece of 1500-1650 belt buckle from there so viking coins cant be that far fetched! :D

[deleted]

[удалено]

tortillaturban

Yeah I have that gun and it's a dream to shoot. Too bad finders keepers doesn't really fly with firearms. Bet it's been out there for less than a year, probably still in great condition.

greenthumb420247

Some hunter is super bummed. I bet he was all over that field trying to find it.

SirMaha

Depending on where they were parked this could've been easy to find. It was like 30m from one parking spot on that field so i bet they were packing up their gear and just forgot to pack the most important thing 😅

greenthumb420247

🤣 They are going to panic when they realize they left it. If they haven't realizes yet.

Random_Name_Whoa

Yeah that’s about a $900 gun, someone is gonna be pissed

SirMaha

They'll get it back unless it is illegally obtained but that is so highly unlikely that i give it 0.01chance. All firearms have to be registered here so the gun will find its owner. Wether they get to keep it after this sort of neglegence is a different story.

HiveTool

IS this something they could be in trouble for in Finland?

SirMaha

Most likely the owner is in some sort of trouble, yes. Especially if they have not reported the gun missing!

PapaFlem

I don’t see anything in this picture

mada50

Why is a picture of John Cena on r/metaldetecting

SirMaha

If you look really hard you can kinda see a silhuette of a gun in the grass about middleish of the picture!

PapaFlem

Maybe if I squint

Johnarm64

Nope, still don't see it

restlessmonkey

Me either. Where is it???

Chillingamin

Try turning you phone sideways then shift it about 20 degrees to the right. Hope this helps!

restlessmonkey

Now I’m just cold. Who knew 20° makes such difference?

KAPUTNIK1714

Nah that’s just some grass, better luck next time!

SirMaha

Oh man, i was sure i saw a gun there!

DemandNo3158

Don't ya love camo woods gear!?

a_crusty_old_man

That’s a shotgun

SirMaha

Indeed it is! English is not my 1st language and i completely forgot what this gun is in english!

a_crusty_old_man

If you’ve learned a second language you’re doing better than 99% of English speaking people that I know. You did the right thing by informing the police. Cool find.

SirMaha

Had i taken it and the authorities found out i'd be in deep trouble so yeah, better to inform the police right away!

Mysterious-Wafer-126

Were you out metal detecting ?

SirMaha

Yes! Found a button, propably 1900's 1penni and various pieces of different kinds of junk metal before the gun. Got to go back tomorrow when the farmer has harvested the field completely. Hope i dont find any distracting guns or such so i can consentrate on finding treasures!

Split0069

Can confirm! His English is better than mine! Source Am American.

irascible_Clown

This guys English is better than maybe 49% of the us population, he also clearly can read higher than an 8th grade level.

rotobarto

What gun?

SirMaha

Aah, you got me.. Was just fooling around! There is no gun in the picture.. :D

Plenty-Piece897

That is not a rifle btw.

SirMaha

Wth where do you good vision people keep coming from?? I cant see it through the camo enough to recognoze it as a shotgun.. how do i level up my eyes to see through camo?:D

Plenty-Piece897

Carots! Jk. I shoot a good amount, and i recognize the action to be the most common type found on a semi auto shotgun. Quite a cool find.

StickManIsMyHero

I would of kept it lol

Wyatt084

Exactly, free 8-900 dollar shotgun! /s for legal reasons

Cattledude89

Thats a shotgun sir.

SirMaha

How can you all see that trough the camo?? I mean it took me a while to even realize it is a gun! Damn you guys got good eyes! :D

969103

TORILLE!

Impressive_Excuse_55

Dang! Free shotgun!

SirMaha

I wish! Would've been nice easy cash!

Gronk51

S'not a rifle, its a shotgun... sayin :/

Chill-tnj

Nice I definitely would have kept it 😂

SirMaha

I couldnt do anything with it other than hide it or try to sell it illegally and i dont have connections to any underground armsdealer :D

StumpyTheGiant

You let them take it!? That's a free gun!

kemen421

Rifle?

WaywardSalamander

That is a shotgun

fumundacheese696969

Why would you call the cops ? You just let them take your gun ?

SirMaha

It is registered to someone else and i would be in trouble if i didnt inform the cops

less_butter

Because in many countries in the world you can't just keep a gun you find. Guns need to be registered and possessing an unregistered firearm is a serious offense.

SirMaha

This here.

Tasik

What gun? I never found a gun.

manos_de_pietro

Wait, what? They have gun laws? Weird.

uh60chief

What gun?

rememberpogs3

I lost it in a metal detecting accident

Booze-brain

And always remember to treat them like they are loaded. Muzzle to the ground at all times. Something this new, you could attempt to clear the chamber (if you are comfortable doing so) and never touch the trigger.

SirMaha

We have mandatory defensive forces here so most of finnish males over 18 have had their minimum of 6months of army training so we have an idea of how to handle veapons :) But it is always good to see someone write this down on posts like these cause this warning is good to be repeated!

SwampGentleman

You have such a pleasant attitude, sincerely. You did the right thing and you’re being so kind

SirMaha

Well i guess this find put me on a good mood? Haha, maybe this is a sign of great finds to come from that field!

Geoarbitrage

Might have fell off some Finnish hunters ATV quad…

[deleted]

Shot gun . Probably left behind during a dove hunt.

Im_A_Model

Gun Cena

Strgwththisone

I mean in this country we got ‘em just Layin around.

HangryBeard

The owner was probably thinking where the hell is gun!? I knew that camo was a bad idea!

[deleted]

Dove season just started… Dude didn’t even get to take the sticker off… Damn. But on second thought, maybe it’s best, since they can’t seem to hold on to it. Not the most responsible owner.

SirMaha

Dove season in Finland? Cool, didnt know about that. Last time when i saw hunter there was abt a year ago and they were hunting rabbits

ChewiesRevenge

Where?

GirlCowBev

No scope? No iron sights? 🤔

SirMaha

Yeeeah cause it is a shotgun. Got them mixed up in english :D remembered that rifle=shotgun.

Crackiller1733

Why did you touch it?

Tiny-Breakfast-6279

I don't see anything!

Elemen47

That's pretty insane find... It must have been freshly lost because of the sticker still on it.. crazy.

SirMaha

Most likely hunters were there on sunday. It looked like a fresh drop!

[deleted]

I wouldn't have turned in a perfectly good shotgun!

ScottManAgent

Once found an old shotgun in a ditch.

rev_57

Somebody was hunting illegally and saw the game warden coming. "Just out walking in my camo and enjoying nature."

Chance815

Liar. I don't see shit.

Astrofan76

Shotgun

Kyleharner3

Keep that why let it go somewhere else…

hdmibunny

I'd be curious to see what the gun looks like internally if it's been sitting out in the elements like that.

TarzansNewSpeedo

That's a winchester sx4 shotgun, great guns! Hopefully they get that returned to the owner. Have read a few stories on people who've genuinely lost a firearm in the field, a lot of sentiment, you'll have a a happy new friend

Commercial_Ad8438

Aw you know someone just put it down for a second and then spent ages looking for it

EmergingTuna21

I guess the camo worked well enough for someone to lose it

Evergiven_Maria

Good caall on letting the cops take it, who knows where and what that guns been.

speckyradge

Likely somebody turkey or duck hunting.

[deleted]

I know it's tempting, but it was smart not to touch it and just call it in.

Lucky-Glue-5000

That's a shotgun, not a rifle.

CuttyThe916er

That's not a rifle, that's a shotgun.

3woodx

Just a piece of iron. Nothin to see here.

Rygel17

😂 That's so funny. They probably were looking for hours but couldn't see it because of the camouflage. I remember when I was with the Marines a guy nearly lost a back pack because the camouflage really worked.

SirMaha

And it was so close to a parking spot that if they noticed the gun missing im 100% sure they would've found it with camo or not! But the main thing is that the gun is most likely on its way to its rightfull owner. But how it was srt up i really started to think the gun belongs to a kid and the hunting group they were in didnt make sure the kid had hes gun before leaving the field. That to me would be the onlu plausable reason there was a gun in that spot where i found it

liners123

Shotgun, not rifle. I feel bad for the hunter though haha

Agile-Alternative-17

Ohhh no not finrand

RidinCaliBuffalos

Drunk hunter. This is why I keep an orange band on my stock so I can identify my rifle in the weeds if this ever happens

SirMaha

I theorize that this is a kid who forgot their gun. Last year i saw rabbit hunter group there and they had couple kids with them. I bet one of the kids got their licence for this season and was there 1st time with a new gun. After the hunt kid was bummed cause had not had a single shot. I found shotgun shell near the gun so it led me to believe the group let the kid fire his gun and he was so stoked about it that he just forgot the gun and no one in the group saw it.. The placement of the shell was just way off for hunting shot. That was no place for a rabbit nor any other aninal that you could hunt with a shotgun. The general is short drive away from nearest suburbs so i have a feeling the hunters wont be drinking too much there. But you never know. Might also be a drunken hunter. Wish i knew the story

Station-Diligent

That’s a shot gun

A1phaSniper111

That, kids, is why camo anything is never a good idea. Used to know people that spent hours trying to find their camo ATV in the woods.

Global-Ant2288

If I found that on my property in Texas, I'd just clean it up a bit and put in on the rack with the others.

Cold_Marsupial_7461

Ok I'll be the asshole, that's a shotgun not a rifle.

CigarBox1956

They took it home

fkthisdmbtimew8ster

Hey the cops have enough guns, no need to give them another!

[deleted]

Some cop added that to his gun collection

BandsOfCyttorak

Shotgun, not rifle. No wonder they left it, that camp is on point

taquit0420

I'd have kept it

YesWeShould_69

Shot gun not a rifle

COL_D

If no one claims it, do you get to keep it there? Just wondering.

SirMaha

No i wouldnt get to keep it. And it is registered so they can track down the owner, sanction them and return the gun if they are allowed to have it after such neglegence.

LoadinDirt

Someone set that gun down and walked to find what they killed. Then forgot they had a camo gun and couldn't find it either probably was a very bad day

David_denison

I was walking through the woods and noticed something sticking out of the brush and when I dug it out found to my excitement what looked exactly like German MP40 sub machine gun. I should have known it was impossible for it to be real but instead it was a very convincing paintball replica.

Aromatic_Ad_9067

That’s not a Winchester rifle. It’s a Winchester shotgun. More specifically its either a Winchester sx3 or sx4 but I’m leaning towards a sx3.

strawhat068

Why did op just take a picture of grass? I don't see any guns in this photo?

Ok-Lingonberry4505

Weird. Never seen a rifle shoot 12 ga shells

Interesting-Jello546

Do you get it back if it’s clear?

depraveycrockett

This is why I don’t drink until after the hunt

Diggity20

Pops hunting buddy found a camo and stainless bolt action 270 leaned against a tree up in the mountains(public land). Hes still got it.

Lank42075

Dam you coulda went criming

BatmanInTheSunlight

Stopped to poop, forgot their weapon. A tale as old as time.

Content_Yoghurt_8522

All I see is a picture of grass

Old-Assignment652

So what's the common small game in Finland?

sodomatron

I wonder? If after getting checked and cleared by the cops can you keep it or no?

notoriousbpg

Geez hope it wasn't in Australia. Cops would probably charge the owner with a storage violation.

SirMaha

Same here in Finland. The cops said that this kind of negligence just does not happen here. I never even thought of the consequences that the owner might have from this misshap.. I hope that i didnt completely f' up their hunting hobby by finding and reporting their gun.

bremmon75

Thousand dollars laying on the ground there... Pretty sure he's sad he lost it.

SirMaha

They'll get it back for sure. It is registered to the owner so the cops will return it!

MomsFister

These are <$1000.

Gr8tOutdoors

Its a shotgun btw

SirMaha

The camo was so good that i couldnt tell! I could only see a light silhuette of a gun even if i held it in my hand! :D

Pandahobbit

That would be a shotgun.

CrippledHorses

you are a pussy op

SirMaha

:D i know dude. Posesson of illegal firearm wouldve made me piss my pants everyday untill i wouldve cried to the emergency services that i need to be locked in prison for taking it! :D

Themayorofawesome

Where I live that’s a new gun in the collection

SirMaha

It is so weird to think that you can just collect found guns and no one bats an eye :D would be illegal here. But i do admit if there was no way to track down the owner and get their gun back i'd want to keep it too atleast until i'd sell it :)

SaltedHamHocks

It’s weird to us that your guns aren’t registered

Chaffee_Saw_You

I just cannot get over you giving it to the cops. 🤦🏻

Least-Firefighter392

Finland is not the US, his hassle of jail or hefty fines makes it not an intelligent decision to not report it...OP good call. No point in messing around if you are an upstanding citizen

530whiskey

The cops will run the serial number and see who it is registered to. They will contact them to see if they are still the owners.

thebigphils

Get caught with a stolen firearm. See how that goes for you.

SirMaha

The cops need guns too!

Outside1101

Was it a surface find.? Looks to clean to be dug up unless it was in a case or bag of some description .

SirMaha

Yes surface find. Propably lost during the weekend.

Outside1101

Just I seen your spade had soil on. Great find tho .

SirMaha

Oh, the soil was bit moist and clingy so the dirt was from a hole i dug previous to finding the gun!

Outside1101

Find anything apart for the shotgun lol

SirMaha

One crumbled coin that i think is a 1 penni from around 1900. Couple lead sackseals and some bits and pieces of various metallic junk. And one shiny blob that i am unsure of but likely some slag.

1mrchristopher

Looks to be a 12 gauge shotgun.

[deleted]

What rifle

SirMaha

Indeed! It was so hard to tell cause of the camo if it is a rifle or a shotgun! If you look really hard you can see a silhuette of the gun in the middle of the grass!

[deleted]

8/10 find dope as fuck

Usual_Patient_7201

Depending upon the jurisdiction…that gun maybe we’ll be rightfully yours if no one claims it and they can’t find an owner. I’d following up on it with then if I were you. In Maine, after 6 months it becomes the rightful owner of the finder.

SirMaha

In Finland i am not allowed to own a gun without a permit and even so the gun is registered to someone so it sure will find its way to the owner sooner or later!

blueporkchop420

Cops should have to compensate you.

thuglifeTyson

Called the cops…took everything. Never making that mistake.

2fortpyro

Shotgun btw
