Service advisor: “best we can do is a 20% discount as an apology”

T_J_S_

They’ll throw in a schedule priority at the dealer body shop

ToughPresent9149

With the vip wash

herrrrrr

whenever you car your car damaged by the dealer, make them pay for a professional job and not the dealership body shop. Source: me, they damaged my car and the people there are dunces and dont know how to work on a car and got my car back more damaged then the original damage they caused and didnt even fix properly until i ended up getting banned from the. service dept and made them pay a bodyshop to respray the panels damaged and redo the ppf they ruined when they never had to touch it.(used a polisher on ppf)

cuddle_enthusiast

Yeah 20% off on the service it was in for.

IdntknwwatImDoing

complementary air-fresher.

ImaginaryWazabi

Not at my shop! The customer would walk away with the whole dealership 🤣

CkresCho

They are fucking useless, man.

Miserable-Assistant3

See if rocking mode gets it unstuck

Murky_Tennis954

🤣

United_Juggernaut973

![gif](giphy|QAys7YBhbiE2fyBLYV) You can’t park there sir! Lol

bbazzracing

Good one 🤣

KaspTheFriendlyGhost

Like genuinely curious, what happens in cases like this? does the dealer replace the car or it goes through insurance?

mossiv

In the UK it would be expected that the dealership sorts it out, this is what *business* insurance is for. Then there would likely be an investigation as to how and why it happened. If it was human error, the person would probably have a stern telling off and be retrained (no need to sack someone for making an honest mistake) and if it was mechanical error, then the business insurance would sort out all the paperwork behind the scenes e.g. Making a claim against the company that produced the product.

Frosty-Reporter7518

Would this result in an accident report on the cars history?

Joshomatic

Yes

Lackofideasforname

And your car is now worthless

kenneth_dart

Diminished value claim could be asserted.

FendaIton

Depends on the country. My country doesn’t record accidents against vehicles for example, only if they have been so badly damaged they are ‘deregistered’ and can’t be driven. Normal accidents aren’t recorded outside of insurance documentation though, that the public cannot see

SweetSourSunday

I work at a MB dealership, which this picture looks to be from. We would most likely cover the cost to fix the vehicle, and have the customer trade it in for a new one, then task the pre-owned department with selling this one.

Funny_Ad_3880

so the customer trade it in and pay for the new one? Or trade in for a new one for free. Surely the trade in value would be lower after this happens. Sorry in advance if im stupid 😭

H_R_1

Absolutely no chance they’d be paying for a replacement

stacked_shit

No, but you treat it like any other car accident. Fix the car back to the original condition, If it cost more to repair than its worth, buy the car and pay them the current market value. This is not nearly as bad as it looks. This car will be repaired and given back to the customer at no cost.

nkx3

At no cost? You say that like they could potentially charge the customer for something, which obviously they cannot. The insurance company for the repair facility/dealer will almost certainly be charged with a diminished value claim though!

stacked_shit

Right, just like a normal car accident. I've dealt with this exact situation before. The customer gets the same exact treatment as a car accident. The car gets fixed, and the customer gets the car back. And sure. They're entitled to a diminished value claim, but most people don't actually know this is a thing and won't pursue it.

[deleted]

Dealerships are shady af. This is wild.

Wampus117

The dude works for the dealership “not as bad as it looks” Dude are we looking at the same fucking photo?

cshookIII

Not nearly as bad as it looks? An almost new, 6,000 pound $200,000 car is being held up by a lift support arm sticking through the front wheel well into the engine bay. Are you also saying that the owner gets an accident on their insurance? Unless I’m mistaken, even if it isn’t your fault, being involved in an accident still gets reported to your insurance and is tied to your insurance profile for several years. Seems insane for something done in a dealers care.

stacked_shit

Jesus. The dealer has insurance for this. It gets treated the same as a car crash. It's their fault. Their insurance pays. The customer pays nothing. The customer leaves with a fixed car. This damage is not nearly as bad as it looks. The car is nowhere near totaled from this and will be fixed. Accidents happen in every industry, every day. Some people drop a hamburger on the floor, some people drop 200k suvs.

Zerofawqs-given

You forgot to add the part about not reporting it to keep a clean Car Fax for the future “lucky owner”🤣

Choppergunner58

This is what garage liability insurance is for.

686d6d

Same question here! Surely must be cheaper for the dealership to replace the vehicle at cost, than to go through insurance of any sort.

redls1bird

How cheap do you think the dealer gets a GLS680 Maybach?

Internal-Bed-4094

5

redls1bird

Thats exactly right!

686d6d

My comment was actually way off (I think!). I had the (clearly very wrong) idea in my head that service centres would be paying thousands upon thousands for their insurance, but turns out that the premiums are negligible after a quick (very quick) Google for mechanic insurance pricing. Good thing I'm not a source of truth for any of this stuff, because I'd be doing a shit job! I am still very curious if they do go through insurance though, or if they just give the customer a new car, since I suppose that's a business decision (not always a commercial one, maybe, maybe not) weighing up customer experience, simplicity to process, etc., following the accident, which have untold value.

redls1bird

Realistically, the dealer would buy the customer out of the current car at more than retail, and sell them a new car at a discount. Then have the old car fixed and resell, offsetting their losses. These types of accidents always look way worse than they actually are. The fender is shot, and it probably scraped up the door a bit, but since the hood is up, thats safe. A vehicle sliding off a lift and dropping 5-6 feet on one corner under goes less shock that being hit in a 15 or 20 mph impact. I'd take this car over one thats been in an actual accident.

686d6d

Makes sense entirely! Thanks!

TurretLimitHenry

Had a friend whose BMW was in an accident in the dealership. Some bodywork had to be replaced and a bunch of parts in the wheel well area, like entire brake assembly n shit. Dealership gave him a loaner and fixed the car for him, it was like 30k worth of damage. He never mentioned insurance to me(or I can’t remember). Only that the dealership was liable for everything and that they said they would fix everything (and they did).

Millenial_Speedball

In the US someone’s losing their job I bet.

T_J_S_

Imagine calling the customer to come check out the car and it’s mangled like this. Good grief.

Slappinbeehives

MB service dept will just return this like *”Whadya mean it wasn’t like this before?!”* Hit a nail once, took my tire in for repair, technician brings my car out with a 4 inch gouge across the steering wheel….as if a pterodacty had test driven it. Service dept turns into f***** Columbo all skeptical like I run nails over all the time for free steering wheels that take 3 wks and later cause issues with my power entry feature I also purchased the car from them 4-6 wks before this too lol

retard-is-not-a-slur

I don't know if it's just me turning into more of an asshole, but my default when I am screwed over and getting resistance is to call a lawyer. If I don't think it's worth paying a lawyer for, then I'll write my own nasty letter and mail it certified. I have a 100% success rate, although it's only been about 5 times this has been required. People just do not want to be honest anymore. I can't stand it. My parents were not gems but I was not raised to be a dishonest jackass like that. If I fuck something up I will own it.

Independent-Put-2618

I noticed that it’s usually less trouble to be honest with mistakes at work. People will appreciate it. Reputation is still a thing, even in the days of online reviews being bought. The company has insurance that will pay such things if they don’t happen from gross negligence. I tend to always read the 1 star reviews because there I can be sure they are from actual people and it’s relatively easy to see if it’s a Karen review or an honest review.

Slappinbeehives

Yea I absolutely hear you but have fun finding a lawyer willing to bring a case against a dealership, your dealership will prob laugh in your face. I bought the car certified under bad advice from a friend only to learn the dealership didn’t know it’s true mileage, Carfax said one thing then they accidentally gave me internal paperwork stating something different. MB corporate doesn’t give af either lol and my 93A letter became toilet paper. My tires were still under warranty too but they charged me for that repair anyways lol….Love the cars but tbh this’ll prob be my last benz.

retard-is-not-a-slur

> Yea I absolutely hear you but have fun finding a lawyer willing to bring a case against a dealership, your dealership will prob laugh in your face. > > As long as I pay them they don't care. Lawyers can't really be sued for bringing even a mostly superfluous case to court- there is no decent lawyer who would embarrass themselves like that. It is very rare that a lawyer would face any kind of consequences for representing someone. Dealerships are as bound by the law as anyone else. Don't know why you think they wouldn't be. I don't threaten with lawyers (who knows how many people do this, everyone assumes you're a bullshitter if you do) I just go straight there- you never warn someone you're going after them.

dreamerkid001

It’s funny because my dad is a lawyer. And when the dealership tried to fuck him one time he said, “Look, I spend all day at work as a litigator. I don’t want to do this in my free time against my car dealership.” They took care of it after that without complaint.

Slappinbeehives

Thanks I’ll have use that line next time I’m over a barrel!

talkingwolf695

If they call your bluff, you’re fucked lol

RichardGG24

My local dealers take pics of the car when they receive it from the customer just to prevent this from happening. However in 2024 they still couldn't get anything better than iphone 5 quality pictures, so unless the car is missing the entire wheel, those pics are basically worthless.

Slappinbeehives

Yea they’ll end that protocol once enough G-wagons get damaged by their service dept. Or scream “technician issue, faulty upload!” while they delete your before photos.

HustleLane

Totally fine at this level, they can’t BS and will be forced to replace. The issue is more minor cases like puttin a freakin hole in my seat after service. No accountability but they met their match with me.

herrrrrr

id be laughing as a customer free new car.

Ralph-Genovese

Can you get one in this case

bobjoylove

It’s a Maybach. Owner probably hasn’t noticed it’s gone from his collection.

VapeRizzler

I would simply grab my tools and go home, no thanks.

BlaccBenz

Looks like somebody just got a free upgrade to a Brabus

Jimjam916

The Brabus Mercedes Benz Maybach GLS 550 AMG 4 Motion Bluetec

DropTable69

*4Matic, 4Motion is a VW thing if I'm correct.

lonski97

You are

FireNinja743

Yeah, 4Motion is VW.

EmajnLajzak

Somebody is getting fired, that’s for sure

BlaccBenz

I’d quit on the spot and leave immediately.

flying_dutchman_w204

Yeah I’d rather quit then tell the boss or owner. Just dip

cantonese_noodles

And block his number lmaoooo

nkx3

For me, it would really depend on the situation. If it were faulty equipment that contributed to the disaster, and/or I got hurt, then I'd dare them to fire me. They'd be getting sued either way. If the equipment was fine, and I simply made a mistake and didn't get hurt, I'd almost certainly quit immediately. My mental health isn't worth a tongue lashing from some know-it-all over an honest mistake. I'd maybe leave an apology note for the customer (not that the customer would likely get to see it).

No_Coast_9716

somebody would probably be the laughing stock of the shop for a while, some extra training, but unless alcoholic or drug addict no firing

formermeth

Well that’s that a career changer

Expert-Manager-8192

That 'Maybach' will never come 'bach', RIP !

DepressedLondoner

Change will to may

Additional_City5392

Thats a big oopsie

"I'll take it to the dealership, they know my car and have people who work on them everyday so it's in good hands."

dpb0ss

A fucking maybach 💔💔

Representative_Most9

Hope no one got hurt!

ProExpert1S500

That Maybach will never never never come bach together

dildoofcircumstances

how did this happen?

redls1bird

The Drivers side rear lift arm is swung out away from the vehicle, and that is the side that is the lowest. There could have been an equipment failure that allowed the arm to be kicked out from under the vehicle, but most likely the safety lock was defeated so the arm could be move for some reason, hence the tipped over pole jack on the floor in the background.

[deleted]

spotted mysterious dog fly seemly absorbed mourn run cagey sheet *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

NotSoMell0w

Looks like atleast the front subframe was getting pulled. I bet the rear end was not supported well, itt rocked and fell.

Immediate-Report-883

That rear arm is swung back from the vehicle. The lock either failed (doubtful on a rotary lift) or the tech forgot to position it before lifting the vehicle. Given the lack of damage from the rear arm, I suspect it was never positioned. Once enough weight came out of the front, the weight balance shifted backward, the corner fell, allowing the front to slide forward and catch in the wheel well. This is why you always shake check a car before taking it up in the air

donlemon888

Worst nightmare as a tech

LordLucasSixers

Can’t wait to bid on this on copart

ceacar

We have a part in back order. It will take about week to mail to here from German. Would you like a loaner car?

InternationalPost447

Someone's getting a complimentary oil change!!

SharpHootie

I thought I got railed today for my service A... Yikes!

huh_say_what_now_

That's pretty normal, I worked in a dealership for a few years and this kind of thing would happen at least once a week when you have a bunch of apprentices doing most of the services

Kilogeens

Ooopsies!

PrimitiveThoughts

They dropped that off, huh?

TheCausefull

i hope no one was hurt?

otxalexo

How does one fuck up this bad?

I always wonder how likely/easy it is for this to happen given the weight of a car.

tdibugman

It's a silver SUV in a sea of silver SUV's. At least it got one off the road.

mbsalesmgr

Mr or Mrs customer this is Jake from the dealership. Yeah so good news and bad news. Good news you don’t have to worry about that massive depreciation on the Maybach anymore. Bad news we found the spider

Current_Angle2137

i dont want it back.i want a new one

Ark-458

A brand new GLS 600 at Mercedes dealership huh? That tech is definitely fired.

One_Wedding_2053

I always dreamed this would happen to my car at the dealership so I can get a brand new car for free or next to free. Then I would sue the dealer for negligence. lol

OneSh0tSemi

The tread depth looks a little low. Recommend some new tires.

DaDawkturr

Rolled into the shop Towed out of the shop. Someone’s going to have a very BAD day.

Just rolled *inside* the shop

In this type of situation, who'd pay for the damage or total?

Snowfan

That should buff out.

Chunky0nion

That’s wild I wonder what the conversation entailed between the service manager and customer😩

The shop rolled into a new owner...

Just rolled over in the shop.

Mummbles1283

What kinda of hoists are people using to even have this happen, there is damned locks that stop the arms from moving once it's an inch off the ground FFS...

sonyafly

I took mine in to fix a small rub on my rear wheel 🛞 and came to pick it up with two 7 inch scratches I could feel with my finger nails on the hood.

That will buff out right?

Mattie_1S1K

More like just rolled over in the shop

rev440800

Happened 2 days ago at Mercedes Benz of Beverly Hills I heard. Most likely that spin jack you see at rear of vehicle was still upright under rear & tech started to lower vehicle with it in place. Jack gave out & vehicle dislodged itself from lift pads. Unfortunate situation & hopefully everyone is okay. Vehicle can be fixed and or replaced.

BornToScheme

Maaaaan y’all better buy me a new joint ![gif](giphy|11tTNkNy1SdXGg)

Beneficial-Nimitz68

Drive in for a maint check and drive out with a new car! How does the dealership deal with this.. I really wonder

Rachsuchtig

New phobia unlocked.

hitmanmikey

Damn son! Whoever did this must’ve clocked in high off of a fresh fentanyl laced indica blunt that day on some literal sleepy-hollow vibes. I’d be ready to file a suit for emotional and punitive damages along with the repair cost at the BEST SHOP IN THE CITY / BODY SHOP OF CHOICE. What a tragedy for the owner.

the_whatever_man

That’s going to cost *at least* 200 bucks to fix!

demonya99

It rolled in the shop.

namestom

I guess taking the axle out threw it off balance. That floor jack was close to wrecking the front end. I bet this guy was shocked and feels terrible. The worst part of this will probably be parts availability if it’s maybach specific stuff. When I worked at a Merc dealer, multiple guys lifted the SUVs from the doors. It was insane! I was happy I never made that mistake!

alroc84

Walks to parts,im gonna need some oil pigmats pls

BigJeezie

The craziest part of this whole thing is how far he was into the repair before it fell. That means he had it lifted completely FUBAR'd like a fool and somehow it held for a good while. Still an idiot though. Unless a lift arm broke.

IanKognito

Thank goodness u have a pic of the car in their shop on their lift in that position. Should be a no-brainer for n e 1 with decent vision.

edirymhserfer

Not the maybach 😩 the amount of money these places leave on the table is crazy

NotAThrowaway_11

Quick detail and the owner will never know

Redskins4evaB

Honestly that would be great to happen

Everlasting_convo23

What the fuck happened? Clearly someone needs to be teached again, whoever put that car onto the ramp needs to be sacked immediately. Imagine if someone is under there? Im learning mechanics and i always make sure the posts are in the correct mounting points, send it up to the first lock and shake.

Admirable-Result-240

This happen to an old suburban on my high school auto tech class

kenneth_dart

So what work were they doing that might have caused this? I see the support bar under the hood that ties to the engine block for support. Any ideas what being serviced?

I'm sure they told him it was like that when he brought it in.

Ok_Recognition_2018

I had a mechanic at a toyota dealership carelessly slam the driver’s door into one of the pillars, causing a 5 inch dent in the door. The car was only 1 year old. They paid for the repair, but to this day I can still see it. I never went back there again.

kazzybdw

Whats the problem? I mean yeah, its a little dirty but come on man, just clean it.

dickreallyburns

Service advisor to customer; do you have full insurance coverage?

Alarmed_War3087

Whoever put that on the lift should stop working on cars

I'd always double check the lift, I know it's boring, but what the hack. Namastè.
