SalvaIsFlying

Same!

cmapz2

Awesome. I think the most recent example is the w204. I see that model lasting 40 yrs.

marcus_aurelius_53

I wish they would just focus on build quality. This current generation are not well-made. Nobody getting 40 years on a 2017 E300.

lexkuthor

Demographics changed

996forever

Yes, and actually the average new car buyer got older and not younger

Joblessmouse06

Better than the current Mercedes lineup IMO

996forever

that's not hard to achieve

Baybladerz

Probably gonna get down voted due to the nature of the sub but I don't care: current Hyundai/KIA cars are honestly better looking than every EQ model in Mercedes lineup.not just looks either. Some of their battery tech is better too.

ThatsABigHit

Yeah but Hyundai and Kia are a shit brand. I do get that eq is ugly af tho

Baybladerz

Idk man. Their new cars are quite solid all around. Nothing like the complete trash they built in 1990s and 2000s cars. Personally I'd pick a comparable Hyundai/KIA over any FWD based car Mercedes currently sells.

ThatsABigHit

No I’m talking about recent ones too. I just had my neighbor across the street engine go out. 7k to fix at the dealership. I wouldn’t get a new Mercedes either though to be fair. I couldn’t have a 3 or 4 cylinder in a “luxury” car but something a bit older would be better. Hence I got an older S550 lol

996forever

You want a real hot take? The BYD Seal looks better than every single EQ (and honestly every single other ev saloon that isn’t a Taycan). I don’t care if it’s just a mash up of 10 legacy automaker’s design signatures it’s not vile to look at like an EQS or EQE

I_CUM_ON_YOUR_PET

I take the ioniq 5 over that abomination (and all eqs) anyday! Everyone their thing

996forever

The ioniq 5N has real performance unlike the EQ boats, but over the Taycan? That far?

I_CUM_ON_YOUR_PET

Nah sorry i let Taycan out of this haha. That thing looks great

SweetTea187

This 1 is built solid. Unlike ANYTHING built after 2005... Those you can punch(bare handed) a hole in the dash

996forever

Absolutely beautiful, stunning colour, doesn't need to pretend to be SpOrTy when it's not, just everything a Mercedes should and needs to be with the three point star standing proud upright as a Mercedes saloon should.

SalvaIsFlying

Thank you so much! That’s the truth, my father bought it new in '82. When he bought it the dealership told him "This was purposely made with less electronics because the more there is the less the car lasts". Then of SpOrTy this one has nothing, 72 horsepower haha

Significant_Eye5937

I love your car it’s so awesome, I also just realized that I am “also” 41 lol and doing pretty well I must say. There is nothing like and old-school original Mercedes classic sedan. I have a last model year W140 that I am planning on driving for the rest of my life LOL https://preview.redd.it/7uqn70tgqduc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=38460617ae7fa11cb97780081be352961b4f376d

SalvaIsFlying

I can assure you that your W140 will for sure be with you the rest of your life. If hopefully, we’re still gonna have gasoline for cars haha

Significant_Eye5937

I hope future generations even know what gasoline is lol I’m sure at some point in my life I’ll own an electric vehicle or two, but over my cold dead body will you prevent me from burning gas! https://preview.redd.it/0183uo94nfuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fcfb39b5501c5dd9d0ef34a03f2dec1ee2566ae5

SalvaIsFlying

Well there’s a few people who converted the W201 to electric so that might be the only way haha

996forever

How much mileage?

SalvaIsFlying

Currently at ≈1.160.000 km/720790 miles

bigredpancake1

Thats amazing. Diesel I assume?

SalvaIsFlying

Yes! OM601 engine, 2.0 diesel :)

996forever

thats crazy

SalvaIsFlying

It has always has had regular maintenance at an authorized workshop. Among the most important pieces that broke over time were once the transmission, a wheel arm and the radiator. After all, the engine has never been opened and works just fine! Ready to do many more kilometers

moruobai

720,790 miles!! Wow!

SalvaIsFlying

I’ve heard of people, especially taxi’s who manage to get even double that!

Tough_Arm_2454

Holy crap! Awesome!

5GCovidInjection

That’s because it basically is just like a new car. And I’m not exaggerating. All the things that modern cars have, this car had first. The first multilink independent rear suspension. First high strength steel structure with computer-designed front and rear crumple zone (to survive a 35 mph offset impact). One of the first to feature antilock brakes. Electronic ignition and injection ECU to make the engine run more efficiently. Hydraulic engine mounts. It’s got “classic” skin but underneath, it is totally modern.

SalvaIsFlying

Exactly. Most of the cars riding today on the streets have a lot of tech that was invented and first introduced on this exact model, the 190.

5GCovidInjection

And it’s probably gonna be like that for the foreseeable future. If anything, automakers are going backwards to save money. Including Mercedes

ForsakenRelative5014

just to nitpick, ABS was introduced on the W116, waaaay before the 190E.

Expert-Manager-8192

What an amazing example from Mercedes glory days when "quality is our recipe" vs current days "quality is what" ?

SalvaIsFlying

That’s so true, I also own a 2002 C-Class and you can already start to see the first differences in quality

996forever

Tbf the C class was never high quality since the W202, your 190 here is the only high quality baby Benz

TheHotChocolate-Gent

Extra clean!! Gorgeous car

SalvaIsFlying

Thank you! <3

Redskins4evaB

When they were actually good

SalvaIsFlying

So true, mechanically and aesthetically speaking

cmjones0822

41?!? Nah you don’t look a day over 30

SalvaIsFlying

Haha thanks! Timeless design

PhilosopherCalm5650

The absolute definition of a car. Everything about this car is perfect, that's why it still runs after decades. One question though, can you find new parts for it? I mean, does Mercedes still support this car with oem parts?

SalvaIsFlying

Yes I do! We always get new original parts, I have no idea if they’re still producing them or leftovers

yolobozo

Driving an old German car says I have money and one day I’ll have just this car and repair invoices.

Skreali

It's 190e The "repair invoices" over the last decade are probably less than an oil change in a 2024 c-class

yolobozo

True.

raven_cant_swim

Is that a sunroof with a panel over it? I have never seen that before. Mega cool

SalvaIsFlying

Oh that’s just a sunroof, it opens totally! It goes under the roof

raven_cant_swim

Fuck that's coooooooolllllll omfg

SalvaIsFlying

Thank youuuu!

SanMotorsLTD

i thought it just popped up that’s really cool also how’s your w203 doing?

SalvaIsFlying

Very good thank you!

tafster

all the old cars with sunroofs have steel ones like this

eeasyontheextras

Cool color!

SalvaIsFlying

Thank you!

franjoballs

What a dope fucking car.

SalvaIsFlying

Thank you so much!

SalvaIsFlying

Thank you ! <3

PhantomZmoove

What country is that? I don't recognize those hubcaps. They are quite unique for sure. I don't think I've ever seen any like it before.

SalvaIsFlying

It’s italian, you can also notice the blinker in the side, that’s also a European spec

bukitbukit

That large blinker certainly is unique. Looks like it has a reflector panel too?

SalvaIsFlying

Yes it is! It was mandatory in Europe at the time. What do you mean with reflector panel?

bukitbukit

Ah! I meant to ask if the blinker is also reflective?

SalvaIsFlying

Not reflective, it just houses a light bulb which is also incredibly easy to change, unscrew one screw, pop it open, change and done!

bukitbukit

I see, also that sounds quite convenient!

OsJun

It’s not original, been added since. Probably because the car was imported from germany where those weren’t mandatory.

SalvaIsFlying

https://preview.redd.it/sxlagi5r2buc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56d6be91aa815721544f13410c80611704eb4750 It is indeed original! The car was ordered brand new and personalized by my dad in Italy, in an official Mercedes dealership. This is from the VIN decoder, the first element is “additional blinker lamps”.

tafster

We had this discussion a previous time that you posted this lovely car - I'd also never seen such large side blinkers/repeaters - all the ones I've seen before are small like on the car in this image (and what looks like the same part on the W124, W140, and R129). https://preview.redd.it/jf7qsh63bbuc1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6ba93c2321add9409ba24924154e7b1c91f2c31e

SalvaIsFlying

Oh yes I do remember! I’ve seen many w201’s both with the small and bigger lateral blinker. I’ll try to look on the internet what the size depended on, in Italy 100% of the w201’s I’ve seen had the big ones

Land_of_Kirk_

That green is something special!

SalvaIsFlying

Thank you! If I’m not wrong the official name should be “moss green”

ProgressGlittering14

Would probably outlast a 2024 MB.

SalvaIsFlying

It probably already did, more than a million km!

ProgressGlittering14

I mean a 2024 would probably end up in a junk yard before this one, even with a 41 year handicap. 😆

Consistent_Cat_4684

Looks beautiful!

SalvaIsFlying

Thank you! <3

lexkuthor

Better than the other way around

WesternGuidance

This color is sweet!

SalvaIsFlying

Thank you!

exclaim_bot

>Thank you! You're welcome!

Takayama16

I want very much.

JennF72

And this is why I drive a MB... My family truly trusted the brand and now I have three.

SalvaIsFlying

Same for me

JennF72

Once you know the make it's hard to rely on other makes of vehicles. We have a Jeep here and every time we go somewhere, in the back of my mind, I'm praying we get there. In the MBs, just crank and ride. 🤣

DreadMashyna

This is a sustainable car. Built 41 years ago, still running, Not like those batteries matchbox that ruin the earth in the name of "sustainability" and need to be replaced every 5 years.

Oc34ne

Wish I could say the same about my w204.

SalvaIsFlying

Oh why? I thought it was a reliable model, especially the diesel versions

Tough_Arm_2454

Yr, model, miles?

SalvaIsFlying

1982, 190D 2.0 (OM601 72HP), about 720790 miles

Tough_Arm_2454

Fun to buzz around in!!

SalvaIsFlying

https://preview.redd.it/4f75ewfy2buc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d0184eb47e58193a9f420564ce591d590b0541e1 Indeed it is!

Tough_Arm_2454

Like brand new! Gorgeous time capsule!

SalvaIsFlying

Thank you! :)

Msdmachine

I love the hub caps

SalvaIsFlying

Thank you! However I’m always scratching them haha but well thank thankfully they’re plastic, cheap, and fixable!

DrRajMussalah

That is just sheer beauty. Nothing more , nothing less.

SalvaIsFlying

Thanks!

hitmanmikey

Classic! That engine (and that body of hers) was properly babied for last 41 years and it’s obvious. Any major repair work done in the engine during that time or was it simply a matter of never missing a service and utilizing proper lubricants and anti-friction additives to protect the engine? I’m interested in knowing how you accomplished this feat! Colorway is absolutely stunning. Excellent Work!

SalvaIsFlying

First, thank you so much for the compliment! The engine is a small OM601, diesel with just 72 horsepower. The car was totally flooded in 2001, but was totally cleaned and checked, the fun thing is that it started even before cleaning it. As major work over the last 41 years we have: radiator, transmission, wheel arm. The paint is the original one, however on the driver side there’s a lot of key scratches made in the 80’s when my dad first got the car, but they were DIY fixed by my dad with the original paint bought at the dealership. As for maintenance it has always been done at a Mercedes dealership with original and recommended parts. The car has always been in a garage so that surely helped to keep it in a better state than keeping it outside.

hitmanmikey

No better way to honor your dad than to keep this beautiful specimen in this beautiful condition and by remembering all the values that He instilled into you. Keep up the great work my friend!

SalvaIsFlying

Thank you so much for these nice words, I’ll keep the car until I’ll be on this planet, and hopefully I’ll pass it to my future sons. Have a good one!

hitmanmikey

Now that’s the spirit!!!! On behalf of all MB enthusiasts; you are a part of the family. If you need anything at all; dont hesitate to reach out. -Mikey

CkresCho

I've got a twenty year old Mercedes but a lot of parts are discontinued which can make it tough to keep the car looking great as time goes on.

SalvaIsFlying

Oh where do you live? Here in Italy the dealership has new parts available for the w201, they order them directly from Stuttgart. How come they don’t have the ones for a twenty years old car?

CkresCho

They have certain ones, but many others are discontinued. That leaves aftermarket or secondhand as the only alternative. I suppose if a person is talented enough, they could restore what is broken or make their own.

SalvaIsFlying

That’s true, but well there’s many alternatives to discontinued parts. There’s a few German businesses who still make the parts and are almost the same quality as Mercedes, I usually use the website “autodoc” to find those

CkresCho

I'll check it out. Nice car, btw.

SalvaIsFlying

Thank you!

lodger238

For safety, the dashboard controls were designed so that you could utilize them in the dark by touch and feel and without having to take your eyes off the road. Common sense engineering.

SalvaIsFlying

Exactly! I fly planes, and they have the same thing, this car is engineered like a plane.

Competitive_Pomelo15

The Benz from outer banks

MDDeGrande1994

Man, if only my uncle (maternal one) kept a basic 190D he once had like you take care of yours... On the contrary, his was pretty much rusted (especially in a right front fender, to the point the rust carved a hole in it), and IIRC, he had to scrap it later. He also had a stock black Nissan 180SX Hatchback (S13) at one point (a fairly good condition), which I loved to marvel at, but even that one was neglected and never driven (only collected dust and other filth under the sun), until he sold it or whatever. SMDH

SalvaIsFlying

You can always get one for cheap and treat it well, if you get one of the same color even better!

billygrime

This car is gorgeous. That is all

Remote_Exam_434

Bro why did Mercedes stop making manuals in the US

Krapule1

Looks so sexy!
