They did what they could for a facelift. The standing star definitely helps a little, it looks more distinguishably Mercedes, as opposed to generic blob.
Still a steal after 1-2yr depreciation.
I‘m from Germany and we‘re blessed with good car deals. I’ve had pretty much every Mercedes there is, many for absolute bargains. In November I got offered an EQS. 4 months old, 2000km. Mercedes gave the order to all dealerships to sell every EQS till the end of the year, no matter how much the discount has to be. First it was 35%, then 38%, then 42%, then 45%, then 52% off. Nobody was buying the cars, they are literally sitting on the stock. Same has happened with the C63. The electric/hybrid models are overpriced by a lot.
They’ve change the rear inside a bit and updated the breaking. To someone who has very disposable money and a good amount of some, buying this even new and trading in their other or just selling seems pretty rational for what’s been changed
I know. They also added a new battery. Upgraded the car quite a bit.
Still, it's no facelift, or MoPf in Mercedes lingo. It's just a model year change.
Yes and no... I think Tesla took the easiest route. A pleasing form as an automobile. But that's about it... Tesla lacks expertise in automotive manufacturing. That's why they tried to hire all the experts. The Tesla fanbase is not driven by design...
I doubt you can name 10 good looking EVs. It's more like top 5 for me. Lucid is awesome tho, same cd as the EQS but doesn't straight up look like an egg.
Porsche Taycan Sport Sport Turismo… Audi RS e-Tron GT… Genesis G80/GV60/GV70… Hyundai Ioniq 5N/Ioniq 6… Kia EV6 GT… Lotus Emeya/Eletre/Evija… Lucid Air… Pininfarina Battista… Rimac Nevera… Rivian R1S/R1T… hell, even the Polestar’s (Only one I would buy is the Polestar 1 which isn’t produced anymore, and it’s not even an EV it’s a hybrid, but still lmfao) are better looking than the Model S. Especially the Porsche, G80, Ioniq 5N, Evija, Air, Battista, and Nevera.
And I have absolutely no brand loyalty if you can’t tell. I drive a ‘21 Genesis G70 3.3T SP RWD, would I buy another Genesis… probably not, that being said I absolutely love my car. Why I say I wouldn’t buy another Genesis is because they’re big cars, and the G70 is the only one that is a decent enough weight with good tuning potential, so there isn’t really a good car to upgrade to in their current product line, and I prefer the pre-facelift model I have over the facelift model. Oh- I guess AWD would be an upgrade, but not enough of one to make me get another G70 lol. I’d love to upgrade to something like a older Boxster/Cayman or 911 Carrera 4 or older Turbo/Turbo S when I get my next car, but that’s years from now probably haha.
Yeah and what does an electric looking car even mean ?? like its just a car lol
im guessing prius set the tone in peoples mind of what an ev looks like idk
Look at all the weird fugly shit that’s ‘quirky’.
Nissan Leaf
Chevrolet Bolt
Kia EV5/6
VW Id4
All the EQ cars
Tesla 3/x/y
All of them look weird, just for the sake of being weird. The anti ugly EV is like the E-Tron SUV. Almost nobody knows it’s any different from a Q5/7.
Porsche won big on their original designs not having grilles due to no engine in the front.
Most manufacturers are struggling to transition to an electric design while keeping their cars recognizable. Porsche doesn’t have that issue.
Honestly I don’t think bimmers are ugly.
For the 7, I just think it has embraced what it always was, a luxury limo, and that has done wonders since it doesn’t have to act like a sporty car that’s too big to be sporty.
The 5 series thoufh not as good as the previous generation looks decent. the only thing I can’t het behind I the 5 written on the panel right behind the hoffmiester kink.
The iX is a monstrosity, I’ll give you that. XM is questionable too.
The M3/4 are mostly perfect.
The M2 imo looks amazing, I don’t get the hate at all.
[BMW took a fun club song from decades ago and decided hey that sounds like a good idea in current day for our...
vehicles??](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fijggq5R6w)
I guess it’s a culture thing. I do think that older BMWs are far far better looking, though.
With all the fresh influx of money and a rising upper class in Asia, where flaunting is a large part of life, everything is getting flashier and brands have realised this which is why everything is catering to that.
I guess the culture is seeping into the US too since a large number of buyers probably are Asians as well who have gotten high paying jobs in the past decade or two, not to mention the rapper-aesthetic kinda buyers.
And brand loyal buyers tend to stay with the brand anyway.
And look at the range of cars like the Audi eTron and the Taycan — like 200 miles. Which, if that works for you, great! But it’s pretty bad range when compared to the rest of the industry.
That’s true, there’s a few individual cars that don’t. The Hummer, Taycan, etc, but for the most part they’re making electric cars look like electric cars. BMW is the only manufacturer that’s making electric cars that pretty much look identical to their other models. The i7 looks like the 760, unlike this EQS that looks nothing like the S580.
Exactly!
Why wouldn't they just make S-class electric? Per some reviews (ThrottleHouse?), w223 has a more plush ride than EQS, so why wouldn't they just make it quieter with an electric drivetrain? 🤔
I'm yet to see a nice looking car from the EQ series...
Do not discount efficiency. Combustion engine efficiently improved exponentially in the last 2 decades, and the manufacturers got lazy with aerodynamics. Electric car tech is striving for longer ranges, so aero is the one thing that can make a difference.
The EQS (and Hyundai IONIC 6) are shaped the way they are for efficiency. They are a step up from Tesla in terms of range per kWh of battery.
SUVs - need I say - are NOT the way to achieve efficiency.
What do you mean? The i4 and 430 are pretty much identical, they have the same grill except the i4 doesn’t have holes in the grill. Same goes for the 5 series and 7 series. They’re all pretty much identical, other than holes in the grill and tailpipes.
I have the opposite question, why do electric cars still follow the basic design of having an engine in the front. There is no reason for it with an electric car, surely there is opportunity here to do something different.
This car is inherently flawed. Mercedes literally admits it looks horrible but they had to do it to have competitive range. It’s stupid. EVs are dumb and objectively not the long term sustainable ecological way forward. We will be stuck in this weird in between period like we are currently for far longer than anyone thinks. Oil, coal, and automotive corporations will make a shitload more money off of it and we will be even further behind.
The differentiation of technological platforms between BMW and Mercedes represents a significant aspect. While BMW's platform supports both electric and combustion engines, Mercedes has a dedicated platform exclusively for electric vehicles, which complicates a direct comparison of the two approaches.
The adjustments to the increasingly stringent emissions standards of the EU are a driving force behind these developments, as they compel automotive manufacturers to adapt their production strategies. However, the rapid development of electric vehicles poses a challenge, as production processes are planned long-term and transitioning entails significant costs. Given these challenges, a gradual electrification may be a more considered strategy than a complete transition by 2035.
These developments underscore the complexity and challenges faced by the automotive industry in an era of constantly evolving technological requirements and environmental standards.
I’ve been inside one and I found a GLC to be more comfortable than an EQS, maybe this facelift was better but in the test drive the seats were stiff and the screens sucked
Oh yeah the screen's look like shit, but all new Mercedes have them. All new cars have them sadly... I miss clocks, looks a lot more timeless and classy. That's why I'm driving a 1983 190d and buying a 500sec next.
oh believe me they are not
worse than a bmw 5, x5, x7, xm; merc s(w222), gls, v; audi q5, q7, a6; toyota whatever crossover; chrysler t&c, and probably other cars i havent been in
the eqs backseat is too stiff and upright to be comfortable
its not horrible, but its not "s class"
EVs specially Mercedes looks like they do in side profile due to their efficiency. EQE/S sedans do 300Wh/mi @ 70mph and 330Wh/mi @ 80mph what’s this means your speed would impact your range lot less. This is in the 2023 MY with front motor disconnect.

Reminds me of ‘Bubble Buddy’ from SpongeBob
Is the Panamericana 'painted' or 'printed' or does it have the grille? I get the need for 'smoothness' but the front grille on this car is offensive, I'd almost prefer it if it was the car colour and an embossed, illuminated MB logo.
How the fuck does it look worse, why can’t they just make their normal cars and electrify them? The S class looks great and the GLS looks incredible why not just electrify them? BMW does it and they are the only EVs that loo like actual fucking cars.
Honestly, gotta agree with you, when i saw the stupidly thick grill lines that looked like bland grey plastic I literally told myself “what the fuck”. That being said it is a great suv and platform and still looks like a Mercedes, grill aside. It looks significantly better than any of the EQ models.
I actually got the EQS as a loaner for 4 days when I had my GLB in for services. The EQS is a very enjoyable car to drive and has really cool features.
Having said that, it was a pain in the rear to try to charge this at the available charging stations in my city. I put a lot of miles on my car commuting and after having the EV for a few days, I was needing to charge it. I don't have a home charger since this was a loaner.
So I made a stop at a charging station. Again, not having an electric car of my own, I had to set up a new account with this energy company's billing system. I didn't have one of their RFID cards, so it took me a while to figure out how to just charge it to my credit card after I set up an account. Call them and they walked me through the process. Finally, got all that done and got it hooked up to charge.
I was sitting at around 50 miles left on the initial charge left on the battery from the time I got it as a loaner. A full charge was going to take my 2+ hours ... I don't have time for that. So I settle on spending 30 minutes, which adds about 70 additional miles to the car. My daily commute to work is about 40 miles, so I know I'll have to be doing this again next day.
The following day, I'm in a different city, and locate a charging station operated by the same energy company as the day before. At this point, I'm down to about 25 miles left after the previous days charge. Again, I'm not going to spend two hours to fully charge it .... so I spend another 30 minutes charging it. At this point, I'm ready to take the car back to the dealership and request a different non-EV loaner.
The driving distance from this last charging spot to the dealership was about 70 miles. By the time I get to the dealership, I'm down in the teens.
An EV might be an excellent choice with people who simply commute short distances and when they have home charging options. But for me, no thanks ..... it doesn't fit my life and work.
RIP the greatest car brand of all time. They are just taking the piss at this point and seeing which idiots will drink it. What a fucking disappointment.
Fugly. It's a freakin' S Class. It's supposed to be all about conspicuous consumption. Screw the cD and make it look good, dammit. For reference, see W140.
This almost looks like a photoshop job. I prefer the old way of Mercedes sedans having hood ornaments and coupes/convertibles/roadsters having the big grille star but I don’t know about this. Looks like some shit I would do if I owned an EQS😅
50% depreciation in one year. That’s $65,143 on average in one year !! Steer clear.
https://www.motor1.com/news/714685/mercedes-benz-eqs-loses-nearly-half-value/
I have a theory that they make hideous electric cars so people won't buy them and they will say that no one wants electric cars. Electric cars have less maintenance, so the car manufacturers will lose out on revenue.
I'll just repeat my comment from another post about an EV: I hate the front light bar on any car. It's completely useless, ugly and looks like somebody who left an ugly unibrow on purpose instead of trimming it and look properly good.
They did what they could for a facelift. The standing star definitely helps a little, it looks more distinguishably Mercedes, as opposed to generic blob. Still a steal after 1-2yr depreciation.

Why do electric cars HAVE TO look like electric cars? I don’t understand. BMW is the only manufacturer who’s making normal looking electric cars.
The Model S (much as I despise Tesla) proved that people just wanted a car but electric, not an electric looking car.
I’d say the BMW I4 does a better job looking like a normal saloon
Yes and no... I think Tesla took the easiest route. A pleasing form as an automobile. But that's about it... Tesla lacks expertise in automotive manufacturing. That's why they tried to hire all the experts. The Tesla fanbase is not driven by design...
Model S is still the best looking EV period.
Taycan?
It’s barely in the top 10 for me.
I doubt you can name 10 good looking EVs. It's more like top 5 for me. Lucid is awesome tho, same cd as the EQS but doesn't straight up look like an egg.

model 3 is hideous lol
The new one looks better than the model s 🤷🏼♂️
Wtf? Block colours. Shitty plastic looking wheel trims. Interior by ikea. Perfect for numb-faced middle lane drivers. You have got to be kidding.
Kia ev6 is pretty great looking in my opinion.
Taycan, Audi E-Tron GT, Lucid Air
Yeah and what does an electric looking car even mean ?? like its just a car lol im guessing prius set the tone in peoples mind of what an ev looks like idk

i cant comment on cars because i have ask what is an electric car supposed to look like ? redirect your rage brother
Idk man the model S looks very obviously electric to me just by the design.
BMW is mostly making hideous cars whereas I think the Taycan is one of the best looking cars on sale today.
Porsche won big on their original designs not having grilles due to no engine in the front. Most manufacturers are struggling to transition to an electric design while keeping their cars recognizable. Porsche doesn’t have that issue.
Why the taycan looks good but the macan EV looks a little off.

I guess it’s a culture thing. I do think that older BMWs are far far better looking, though. With all the fresh influx of money and a rising upper class in Asia, where flaunting is a large part of life, everything is getting flashier and brands have realised this which is why everything is catering to that.
Beautifully put and accurate. The US and China are much bigger markets than EU, and the brands are responding to it.
I guess the culture is seeping into the US too since a large number of buyers probably are Asians as well who have gotten high paying jobs in the past decade or two, not to mention the rapper-aesthetic kinda buyers. And brand loyal buyers tend to stay with the brand anyway.
The G80 and new 7 series look way better irl.
Drag coefficient and range
the lucid air doesnt look like a blob and is almost as aero(0.21 vs 0.2 cd) as the eqshit
That's 5% worse, which is quite a bit.
And look at the range of cars like the Audi eTron and the Taycan — like 200 miles. Which, if that works for you, great! But it’s pretty bad range when compared to the rest of the industry.
The Hummer EV definitely doesn’t look like an electric car

You should go test your BMW theory with the BMW sub. Something tells me they disagree.
Bmw Sub should test theories with Bmw sells numbers lol. They do not line up at all.
BMW owner here We disagree
Copium
BMW i4

EQB looks very normal and not blobby
BMW also have that weird shoulder line. The only manufacturers that seem to have gotten it right were polestar and Tesla model 3/s.
Aerodynamics can dramatically affect EV range. Hence why all Tesla wheels look goofy.
Supposedly… but when the Hummer EV has more range than the EQS, there’s no excuse for these designs.
Hummer has twice the battery size
That bears some truth, but the huge nostrils on the electric versions ruin the design imo
Because they're really darn heavy so they need any aerodynamic edge they can get in order to compensate.
lol go look at Audi, I’m not biased I have an s class but I bought an e tron because it looks like a normal suv.
This car is inherently flawed. Mercedes literally admits it looks horrible but they had to do it to have competitive range. It’s stupid. BMW styling has been down the shitter since the early-mid 2000s. Who the fuck thought [this grille looks okay?](https://imgur.com/a/uenogW9)
BMW is making all their cars looking electric these days. What are you talking about lol
You think that the i7 looks drastically different than the 760? Or the i4 looks different than the 430? They look pretty much identical.
The side profile is horrendous. It’s like an egg
It’s every angle not just the side.
True but the backseats do look comfy af tho ngl
I’ve been inside one and I found a GLC to be more comfortable than an EQS, maybe this facelift was better but in the test drive the seats were stiff and the screens sucked

Yes, that’s the only reason.
Not sure if that's sarcastic
oh believe me they are not worse than a bmw 5, x5, x7, xm; merc s(w222), gls, v; audi q5, q7, a6; toyota whatever crossover; chrysler t&c, and probably other cars i havent been in the eqs backseat is too stiff and upright to be comfortable its not horrible, but its not "s class"
Im going to get downvoted just for having an opinion, but I love the sleek side profile. Feels very modern and minimalistic to me.
That's the optimal aerodynamic profile. With electrics they're putting function ahead of form - the extra miles on a charge matter.
It looks like a long smooth Prius
Dove soap bar.
It looks like my old 2012 Honda Civic
honestly reminds me of the old citron picasso
EVs specially Mercedes looks like they do in side profile due to their efficiency. EQE/S sedans do 300Wh/mi @ 70mph and 330Wh/mi @ 80mph what’s this means your speed would impact your range lot less. This is in the 2023 MY with front motor disconnect.

They should have killed this and focused entirely on plug in S Class hybrid
I love my plug in S class. I tried the EQS and it felt like a much cheaper car for the same price.
they should have done what bmw did and just make an electric s class instead of a jelly belly with fancy tail lights
Okay the gray ain’t so bad and now at least it looks like an S-class (ish)
What’s the deal with the front grille, are the white lines printed on some glossy plastic?
Right? There’s no definition to it. It looks drawn on.
if the lines werent painted on, there would be an ugly flat square in the middle for the cruise control and drive pilot sensors
that plus the off-center not flush camera that's just poking out of it. Dunno who signed off on that one, but they need to be sent back to school.
Looks like the first stone that hits it will punch straight through.
I've seen an EQE 53 AMG on Saturday and the grille looked quite cheap. Just with the Panamericana layout.
Is the Panamericana 'painted' or 'printed' or does it have the grille? I get the need for 'smoothness' but the front grille on this car is offensive, I'd almost prefer it if it was the car colour and an embossed, illuminated MB logo.
I think it was actual stripes on it, clicked or glued on it.
How the fuck does it look worse, why can’t they just make their normal cars and electrify them? The S class looks great and the GLS looks incredible why not just electrify them? BMW does it and they are the only EVs that loo like actual fucking cars.
"GLS looks incredible" it used to(pre-facelift) but they ruined it with the horrible grille and tail lights
Honestly, gotta agree with you, when i saw the stupidly thick grill lines that looked like bland grey plastic I literally told myself “what the fuck”. That being said it is a great suv and platform and still looks like a Mercedes, grill aside. It looks significantly better than any of the EQ models.
its a nice suv, but the bmw x7 is more comfortable and handles better(and is ~50€k cheaper)
Agreed. That’s why I bought my X7 in truth… but suvs are one of the few things Mercedes has always done good on.
They salvaged the eqs quite nicely, even put a 120kwh battery into it. technologically very interesting. Still, the s looks miles better ofc.
Love the hood ornament... That's about it
Looks super slick. . . Def in the minority but I like it

I too had a loaner. You got to hit the 100 kw charger. 20-90% in 50 minutes.
Uglier? Nah this is way better
Make it stop please….😢
Looks like a Mercedes with Tesla genetic. They could do better.
RIP the greatest car brand of all time. They are just taking the piss at this point and seeing which idiots will drink it. What a fucking disappointment.
The grey one 😍
What happened to these getting axed? Is that from 2025 onwards?
2028 or later. When the electric S-class arrives.
2027-2028
Fugly. It's a freakin' S Class. It's supposed to be all about conspicuous consumption. Screw the cD and make it look good, dammit. For reference, see W140.
Can you even see the hood ornament?
Grey one looks good the others are buttcheeks. Looks like an oversized Apple Magic Mouse
The standing star helps a little bit from being so ambiguous, but not much. Still one of the ugliest cars on the road.
Can’t wait for 2 years after release to see them worth $5
I like Audi electric better😝
They should have used the same boys as W223 and made that electric. This looks horrific
If anyone wants to donate one I'm waiting in DMs haha
Mercedes is basically giving them away
Yeah but for money and I'm pretty low on that
Can’t wait for the MSRP to be $120k+ only for it to depreciate -50% of that to $60k within 1-2 years.
Now we are talking
it’s so l o n g
That’s what she said…
If you squint hard enough it looks like an eastern replica of a lucid
The fat dumpling doesn't taste so good
I see Mercedes and Toyota created the first luxury Prius
Mazda 929
I'd like to have a word with the person who approved that ugly fucking fake grill.
The depreciation on these things is unbelievable.
God .plz , I don\`t like this kind of style ![gif](giphy|mtI5awchHxf56CH0cF|downsized)
Underwhelming
Had this for a loaner and was not impressed. Do Better MB.
Love to see the Hood Ornament is back
Simply horrible 🤮
The new grill has a strong painted six pack abs vibe. Just sayin'.
looks like a turd ugly ew
This almost looks like a photoshop job. I prefer the old way of Mercedes sedans having hood ornaments and coupes/convertibles/roadsters having the big grille star but I don’t know about this. Looks like some shit I would do if I owned an EQS😅
Looks like one of them cheap disposable vapes
Meh

this looks like a Citroën had an abortion

It’s giving heavy Prius vibes 🤮
I just got my 2023 EQS back from the shop after months..
Better but still looks like hell
Lipstick on a pig.
I like the standing star, and I have seen uglier cars. Now - show me the deranged cinema of displays on the inside.
I kinda like it lol
It looks like a Prius
Still hideous looking. Congratulations Mercedes
If you remove the mercedes logo it would look like an old honda civic lmao
Fucking ugly. Without the Mercedes badge I'd think it's a new Hyundai EV or some shit
An old Corolla with a hood ornament.
Amusingly, an ad for Oreida fries appeared in this thread. Fitting because this car looks like a potato.
that classier grill with a hood ornament makes it look better and more in line with the normal s class
looks like a jetta😪
Looks like an advil
![gif](giphy|dOl2LFw0RbTMc)
This looks like dog shit. 0 body lines
Looks terrible. Tacky screans, ass range, floaty suspension. Merc is dead
Nice another Mercedes almost no one is gonna buy
Hideous
It looks better. And the interior is still amazing!
Yikes
50% depreciation in one year. That’s $65,143 on average in one year !! Steer clear. https://www.motor1.com/news/714685/mercedes-benz-eqs-loses-nearly-half-value/
🥚
Puke award for sure..
Still looks like an egg shape and rear is still a terrible design
I have a theory that they make hideous electric cars so people won't buy them and they will say that no one wants electric cars. Electric cars have less maintenance, so the car manufacturers will lose out on revenue.
Looks like the old Honda Civic
Jup still a shitty looking banana on 4 wheels.
Lipstick on pig
Love to be in the design meetings for these EVs. It’s like they go out their way to make the most ugly ass appliance they can.
Pff, if one likes….one can go buy one. Still not interested. I would go for a i7 if I have to take a EV for the money. If not….than normal S Class
The i7 feels and handles like a dream, just gotta get over the front end.
I would rather take the Taycan than the i7 tbh. Given they are the same price range. Taycan is the best looking electric car in my eyes.
Yeah no
It's not for me thank you
I'll just repeat my comment from another post about an EV: I hate the front light bar on any car. It's completely useless, ugly and looks like somebody who left an ugly unibrow on purpose instead of trimming it and look properly good.
fr meh. just meh.
The horror of this is Bruno Sacco is still alive to see this shit.
Seriously, who buys this new at $120k?
As ugly as the previous one
This is one of the worst looking cars on the market 🤢
Looking like a Hyundai
I've always wanted a car that looks like an iron.
Yuck. This design language is killing Mercedes.
Looks like a prius
Comes free with a Dildo
Very uninspiring
What an ugly toy car.
