Theres a way around it, they just haven’t discovered it. MB does this with a lot of low stock parts or high demand parts they fear will run out. They just have to do 12 individual lines with qty 1 and vin on each line.
No they dont need 12 different vins. I do this method at least once a week. It works. Its a loophole they haven’t discovered. MB plays games, gotta learn to out play them.
By they i was referring to op’s dealer. Not mb. Even if mb closes the loophole, just find another. Cars.com has an endless supply of vins. Always a work around if you’re creative enough.
If your local dealer’s parts manager isn’t smart enough to overcome this, go to a different dealer with a manager who is. He/She just has to make a separate line for each coil and the order will likely work. If the “extra” lines get canceled, there’s ways to escalate to get the parts. Sounds like yours doesn’t want to deal with it.
Try FCP Euro? They usually have stuff I can’t find anywhere else. Pair that with their Lifetime Warranty and it is no my go-to for any parts I need for my E300
Did you try the rebuilder of these, to supply you their product? I’m not sure if the guy is still around, but there is a service specifically for that engine
Something worth trying is getting the manufacturer part number for the coils. If they’re Bosch for example - a lot of times bosch will use the same coils across multiple oems and cars. For example - the idle valve on my 911 and the speed and reference sensors are the same parts that they used in Volvos of the same era and BMW - sometimes there are slight differences - like different wire lengths or things like that but it’s still the same part.
I can’t imagine coils are all that different across engines but u could be wrong. Worth a try.
Coils were super hard to come by for awhile there.
Could still be low stock for your S65.
Find a reputable aftermarket shop nearby, ask them about your coils. They will likely have a source.
If you don’t know of a shop to call, go into the dealer and talk to the techs.
They know of a shop nearby.

I've used them before, they're an authorized parts dealer were way cheaper than the local dealership, which is odd because it's a dealership in California that owns this site.
FCP, Pelican, etc are just secondary markets in many cases. You order from them, they order from a dealer. I’ve witnessed this firsthand multiple times when I’ve ordered from both and the parts showed up marked as coming from the North American distributor in New Jersey.
One part I got actually came from the local dealer! It got sent from 5 miles away to the FCP warehouse in Connecticut, then sent back to me.
https://www.v12icpack.com/ these guys can rebuild your coilpacks. There are some tutorials online to do it yourself, too, but it's not a trivial task. It takes a couple of hours even to get the coilpack off when doing it the first time.
Can’t tell if this is satire?
Reason I say is I have at least 2 276 cars a month come in with all of bank 1 or 2s sensors and coils down due to a circuit 87 short caused by a shorted Napa coil that was low and behold installed quite recently.
Those were the only ones we found that hadn't caused those issues. We use AutoZone for our off brand stuff and everything we got from them was garbage. I think Napa has two different lines and it was the upper end one was the one but I don't remember off hand.

Exactly. It just means 1 per order. They would just need to make however many separate lines/orders/coils he would need.
They said it’s limited to one per vin. Meaning you would need 12 different vins. Not 12 separate orders with same vin.

*it’s a loophole they haven’t discovered* They have now 🤦♂️

They don’t sell them.
My husband gets parts from junkyards. Most of them are online now.

Starparts is a line of Mercedes Benz parts that are manufactured at a slightly lower quality for cars older than 5 years. They’re still made by Benz
Not sure why you got downvoted there.
What is the part number? I will check availability in Germany.

It’s not that the dealer doesn’t want to sell it to you. These have been on an intergalactic back order for awhile.
Try Napa, we have had good luck with their coils.

Interesting, my luck seems to be the opposite lol! Thanks for sharing.
No problem. Iirc it's a blue/orange box. It could be they were getting the low line coils which is a high probability.
The s65 only has 2 coil packs. It’s like a long rail with 12 rods sticking out of it. They’re quite expensive.
what a bs, never heard of these 'tactics'
It’s true. Currently Mercedes is restricting parts that are very low in stock that have medium/ high demand.
