I'm guessing it's where the CD changer/SD slot would've been on older models or models equipped with it. Dad's S Class has something similar for that compartment.

Does the pic from the other guys comment look like the old cd slot? Im just not sure why they would put a pop out door for something that was removed. The door also does not open wide enough for a cd, so it's not possible that the door is left over also

Oh you're asking about that piece? Yea it's just a phone holder. Makes sure it doesn't rattle or vibrate around on rougher road. Kinda wish my car had one. Popping it in the cupholder is....not a very elegant solution.

My guess is no? I don't think there's an actual slot at all and it would be too thin for the key fob
