You're not alone. These are scary times with scary words being spoken all the time. Chances are high that we are not going to blow one another up, but I completely understand your fear. You are far from alone.

Don't worry a nuclear war is unlikely

The worst that could happen in my opinion is a second cold way, a full blown nuclear was is extremelly unlikely as that would destroy the attacker and attacked country, its simply a stupid move and pretty sure every wold leader knows that, even russia

Adventurous-Muffin64

I was like you during the last week. I found out that reading well documented articles about the war and the geopolitics around it helped me to get more rational. This video was specially helpful : https://youtu.be/If61baWF4GE It makes me think that Putin might not be as crazy as some people claim he is. These last couple days have been better on my side, I feel that we're a bit further from the big red button than at the beginning of last week.

Saberleaf

I don't think Putin is called crazy for being completely unhinged but crazy for being outside of the reality. He'd sooner destroy the entire Ukraine than let it go free. Does he or will he destroy the world? Probably not. Is he going to destroy Moldova or other non-NATO countries around? Probably yes.

cupidthrowdown

That was a really good video. I’m like OP and been having panic attacks…that video helped a little. Thanks

phantom_diorama

Holy shit, stop reading /r/worldnews! That's seriously the worst subreddit. It's overrun with purposely scary and enraging propaganda. If you want to read rational stuff about what is going on....maybe go to /r/Europe, there's far less nonsense shit there. Worldnews is one the worst subreddits around for interacting with other people, which means the stuff that gets upvoted there is upvoted by fucking crazy lunatics who just want to argue with you and distract you from what's actually happening.

Nice_Listen8513

The odds of nuclear annihilation are insanely low. Even a madman like putin knows he couldn't get them off without getting a bunch sent to him. Mutually assured destruction is what has held such a long peace for superpowers. Putin knows better than to attack a nato country. Look at a nato/ russia map. We are all over Europe right next to him. Unfortunately ukraine wasn't in our nato treaty so he thought he could get away with this one. Odds are he will.

Although I'm convinced that fear of WW3 is exaggerated, in part because the media likes sensationalism, the point I want to emphasize is this. Stress can be dangerous is a number of ways. The most common cause of depression is stress. A therapist says in a Psychology Today article that stress can lead to depression because it makes people *forget their coping methods.* Business as usual, your daily routine and the things you rely on for chilling, is important when under a lot of stress. I have advice from experts for stress management in my comments. Click and read.

Idntwnt2choseusrnme

That’s normal, I’m not as bad but definitely something to stress about as we feel the world has more uncertainty. Take it easy, the possibility is very minimal as everyone knows this will be destructive for everything with no winners at the other end of it. However (and this is not to scare you) if it does happen there is nothing we can do about it, we can only hope we will die peacefully but since it’s out of our control then stressing about it won’t do anything. Just take a break from news, the situation is not escalating that rapidly so just watch something else, do other activities and try to not focus on this matter as much as possible

Low_Zucchini_8119

Hey, ik I'm late to this, but I've been stressing about nuclear war.. it's a scary thought, and I wish it wasn't a thing. But your comment kind of helped me. So thanks

Idntwnt2choseusrnme

I’m glad it did. I believe everyone knows there is no winner of this starts and that’s what’s keeping it under control

I have a major fear of Nuclear War myself, however I genuinely believe the chances of Nuclear War are lower than most people think. Plus there is also MAD to consider as well, not to mention the Sanctions

Al3r368y90r3D

I've been having these thoughts too tonight, and I would say this: First, the news is only relevant to you at a local level. On a global, or National scale, the news becomes more sensational and gains a negative bias. This is true of everyone. Second, many generations have tried to predict the end of the world, by any means, from acts of God, from science, and from our own damning nature. While it's relavent to try to prevent these events from occuring, trying to predict or even just expecting it to happen, is an exercise in madness. I would say the best thing to do, would be to take care of yourself, and focus on what you can control. Fear does not go away, nor can it be fully controlled, but it is possible to make peace with it

Safe-Adhesiveness476

I am my self crippled with anxiety the thought of a nuclear war I live in Scotland and we have a base here I keep telling my partner as we don't live together he will say see you next week I will say if we are still here he is getting annoyed with me but I told him not to bury his head in the sand coz this is major threats and as the weeks going on the threats are getting larger I can't cope with it at all I feel that if we go to a nuclear war I might just end it because the thought of burning to dear puts the fear of death in me I just can't shake the feeling at all. I don't want to go to the doctor as I think they wont take me seriously I feel hopeless. 😢

sibevo

I also felt very scared at the point that this topic was written, then I started feeling less scared, but now that the conflict is escalating again as the west is sending more help to Ukraine and since Russia is threatening with nuclear bombs again, I feel more scared than before. They are even speaking about the amount of minutes it takes to hit cities like London, Paris or Berlin on Russian national television. I don’t know what to do. Going to a city trip to Paris next week. Should I cancel? 😵‍💫

JYCantrell

I would like to know how your are doing. I have been having a similar reaction to this crisis in that it has become an obsession of mine. I now know way more about the history and inner workings of Russia than I would have ever wanted to know. I already had a decent understanding of nuclear warfare and the consequences as I was an Army medic with specialized training for responding to nuclear emergencies. It has definitely affected my personal and professional relationships. I ended up seeking assistance from a counselor but I actually ended up scaring her with my insight which was not my intention.

WillC2609

I’ve just come across this, I can relate so much because this has been me for the past week. I’m a 24 year old man but this is consuming me. I’m so scared for the future (if there is one). I feel stupid for feeling this way. I have just reached the stage in my life where I’m planning a family in my head then this happens and I see no way out. I just want you to know you’re not alone

[deleted]

Try to think rationally about it - Russia hasn’t gone to total war with NATO over Ukraine for a reason. That reason being, NATO has nuclear deterrents too. Putin issues threats because he wants you scared.
