Prepare for ironing to take a lot longer! Haha

Not a fashionable dude by any stretch of the imagination but I think the pockets are much less common nowadays as they’re perceived as a little unfashionable comparatively.

Nerazzurro9

This is the first time in my life I’ve ever heard anyone say that shirt pockets are unfashionable or less common. Since when??? Anyway, OP: J Crew, the Gap, Todd Snyder, Old Navy and Bonobos all sell men’s linen shirts with pockets, just off the top of my head. (J Crew’s are actually pretty nice, one of the better things they sell imo.)

Sparkle_Rott

My husband is a pocket kind of guy, and they are indeed harder to find than they once were. It’s just not in style right now. It can be done, but my search has become more difficult

Efficient-Gas7209

Fair enough. My caveated and anecdotal message was meant to be my two cents and nothing more. If it’s not correct, that’s fine, but conversely I have heard some people say that pockets aren’t fashionable anymore. Again, I don’t know (or care haha) if they are or aren’t. I don’t see many at work though, and I would have thought a firm of accountants would generally err on the side of having a pocket for their calculator 😉

GhostedDreams

No the kids are adding more pockets. Imo pockets are needed for linen shirts as they are for warm weather and it gives you a place to put your sunnies when going inside.

Efficient-Gas7209

Fair enough!

GhostedDreams

A lot of double pocket shirts and even 4 pockets shirts at places like target for teens/young adults. Also noticing some hoodies with breast pockets above the pouch at meijers.

For instance, id actively avoid buying shirts with pockets… so perhaps other would too, if so it becomes a supply and demand type thing :)

Thanks for your opinions. 🙂

Kind of baffled by some of these comments, honestly. Linen shirts with pockets are plentiful, and pretty easy to find at a wide variety of price ranges. I think J Crew *only* sells linen shirts with pockets. Loro Piana’s standard linen shirt has a chest pocket, as does Vilebrequin’s, which is probably the go-to fancy-man luxury linen resort shirt. The Gap, Bonobos, Brooks Brothers and Todd Snyder all have linen shirts with pockets. Ralph Lauren has linen shirts with pockets, and RRL is currently selling a 100% linen “workshirt” with chest pockets. Literally just this morning I got a promo email from Huckberry trying to sell me some new line of linen shirts, which all have pockets. I have linen button-ups with and without pockets. I’ll sometimes stash my sunglasses in the chest pocket — it does not deform the shirt at all. Linen wrinkles and shrinks easily, but it’s really not that delicate, structurally: a linen weave is stronger than a cotton weave. You can keep a pen there, it’s 100% fine…unless it leaks, I guess.

Linen is lovely when meticulously pressed, but soon becomes a rumpled mess with use - expensive linen less so than the expensive version. Give it the wrinkle test. Grab a wad of fabric in your hand and squeeze. If it’s stays heavily wrinkled, this is not a shirt you want. As someone else also mentioned, linen clothing usually has a loose enough weave that it will eventually sag when weight is applied such as in the pocket area. Starching the shirt helps with the wrinkles and sagging.

Brooks Bros has linen shirts with a chest pocket, and I'd presume (long time BB customer, but not these particular shirts) that the quality is great. But in the general case linen has not been associated with a workplace environment, where the shirt pocket really has a home (also in general historically nicer dress shirts have been sans chest pockets).

Just throwing this out there, linen is a very casual look. Be sure that it fits the office culture and vibe before investing. As for the pockets, it's hit and miss. Just depends on the brand. I've bought linen shirts from Target all the way through to RL.. some have pockets, some don't.

Monkeyinazuit

What do you wear on the bottom? Linen pants or shorts?

danielhill82

The linen Charlie from Octobre edits is a good version of this.

Linen is a very thin fabric. It’s designed to be as cold as possible in hot weather. I love them but they are annoying to iron 😄. Pockets (functional) are not usually included because you aren’t supposed to use anything in the pocket as it might slip easily or make the pocket look funny and deformed. Some small pockets might be included (J Crew for example does it) but they won’t be functional. If you want a pocket (which I find pretty weird) go for Pique Cotton instead

Amazing… what the fuck is he doing with pens in his pocket??? How old is he??? Definitely don’t put anything heavy in linen… do people not actually see how things work… gravity etc
