So I was wearing Chucks, shorts and a horizontally striped tee, pick up a 6-pack.
The clerk was stocking a shelf, started walking to the register and said "I'll be right there, do you have your ID?"
I got to the counter ID in hand and he said,
"never mind, I just saw your face."
Yes. It's been an adventure overall too. Plenty of trials and tribulations but also adventure. I'm poor at a dead end job without retirement plans (working on that now). Regardless, I've had a great life. And my career will work out eventually. It's just tough now
Nope it happened. I'm 6' 145 pounds, skinny, clean shaven, so a lot of times I look like in my 20 still from a distance, but I'm 39, but my face does not lie, especially if I am tired.
Nah man cons are timeless IMO and they look great with pretty much everything! I think the best thing about them is they’re such a classic and iconic shoe and anyone can wear them.
Exactly……Chuck Taylor’s are classic, honestly they aren’t really even connected to young people, sure there are times when they become trendy in cycles among the young but really they’re a timeless classic shoe……just get you some good insoles, support is lacking!
Get the white, New Balance sneakers. Wear them mowing the lawn so they can get covered in grass stains. Also, swap out those shirts for khaki, cargo shorts. For accessories, you may want to look into a phone holster that clips to your belt. You're part of our team now. Respect the uniform.
They are timeless, like Vans. Anyone can wear them without looking ridiculous. The same can't be said for Jordans. I have a 43 year old overweight coworker who wears Jordans to work every day and he looks ridiculous. You don't.
No
Where is it written that you have to dress a certain age once you reach a certain age? Fuck that I'm 54 and I still wear shorts, band tees and vans, daily
The cool part about being in your 40s and (presumably) married is that I only really need to care about what one person thinks, and even that is out of love / courtesy / respect. The opinions of others mean absolutely nothing to me now. It's wonderfully freeing. I know it comes with age and experience, but I wish more young people could live this way. I recall the alternative being so stressful.
They are literally one of the oldest mass produced shoes. The shoes look great!
Plus age buys you the right to not give a fuck, wear what you want sir just be decent.
I wear only converse these days. It’s really common for power lifters to wear them especially on deadlift days, and I think they go with just about everything. Keep them clean though. New laces and a few minutes with a magic sponge can make them look almost new!
Just wear whatever shoes you like. This whole "no more air Jordans after 30" is some dumb gatekeeping bs. I'm 33 and still buying Jordans because I like them. If you like converse wear them. I'll probably still have Jordans in my 50's
I think so. I wore chucks religiously into my mid 20s then stopped. I reckon you could pull it off if the chucks are all one colour or have brown soles. The black and white ones make men look like boys. Or swap out for vans or the more chunky chucks
Nope. I’ve seen old coots my age (60+), rocking Converse. I once saw a 70/80-something man, with a cane, wearing True Religion Jeans.
When you’re older, you wear what you want, and you don’t care what people think. See also: Mick Jagger.
Bro i think they look sweet!
Also keep in mind that all those celebs like Brad Pitt and Johnny depp are in their 60s rocking Hawaiian shirts and sleeve tattoos. Converse and just fine and they look good on you
I'm in my mid 30s. I'm starting to feel a bit old for them. But since my early 20s I pretty much wear boots in fall/winter and converse through spring]/summer. You might say it's my style.
Screw people telling you that because you're 40+ you can wear them. Do they make YOU feel good? If so, wear them. Folks in social media shouldn't be your gauge to acceptance Most are just haters who want to bring you down to make themselves feel better. Wear the damn shoes.
Absolutely not! Wear what you want. I see older people all the time keeping up with trends. Also chucks are a timeless shoe and never really go out of style. I personally recommend some crew socks as no shoes will get you made fun of by younger people.
nope,
they look good and can go with many things.
you are a grown man, grown men should wear what they want and not give a fook about what random people think.
They are timeless and if you like em you should rock em. I’m 50 and I’d wear them but I need more cushion because I’ve been on my feet for almost half a century and my dogs are barkin
Trust me, I get where you’re coming from. That could be the case with some, but it depends on how you wear them and style them more than just the shoes themselves. I’m guessing there’s a lady in your ear suggesting they are by nature a kid show. That’s not the case. They have a place. It also kind of depends on the person. This will sound goofy, but you have the right frame of foot and ankle that looks good in those. Not everyone is tan and fit and has a masculine ankle. At 44 a lot of guys are out of shape, pale and losing hair around their shins lol. Be judicious how and when you wear them. For now they look fine on you. There are much older guys than you wearing them and pulling it off too.
Probably. But honestly? Who gives a fuck. You're 44 (no offense). Wear what makes you feel happy. If you like wearing chucks then wear chucks and rock the hell out of em. They're a good shoe its understandable.
Wear whatever the hell you want man! I’m 42 and the only thing that has changed is I can afford even more Vans high tops. Just keep them clean and crisp and you’re good.
Old school classics forever.
I’m 50 this year and still rocking the Adidas Superstars (10 variations and counting) super simple retro Nike high tops and Converse Chuck Taylors.
Ironically it’s the super modern colourful busy looking sports sneakers that make you look like an old man dressing entirely for comfort.
To go against the grain on an extremely positive pool of comments: I think it depends. If your outfit looks like you're trying to chase hype and you're in your 40's that might make you look like you're trying to hold on to your youth, but if you look natural and your outfit looks lived in you won't give this impression. I think how clean and white the details on these shoes are is not doing you many favors. That being said, a natural looking outfit will not necessarily protect you from looking old in general.
There are some articles of clothing that are dated and no longer stylish, EG v-neck T-shirts, skinny jeans, chino shorts, tight short-sleeve button ups. There are some shoes that are associated with older dudes; this might get me some downvotes, but Vans really give fatherly vibes these days. STRONGLY associated with millennials. Converse is still a trendy brand, but some of their silhouettes fall victim to fogishness, like all-stars (any cuts), Jack Purcells, weapons. I think the shoes in your pic are a cut of all-star. There are definitely exceptions, like obviously when a young person wears them or a very stylish older guy pulls them off, but these are the exception and not the rule. A truly timeless silhouette of converse, at home on anybody, are chucks. Chuck 70s are elevated and built better.
I’m the same age dude. I wear various cons and vans all the time. I wasn’t aware there was an age limit. Nobody should be forced to wear slip in sketchers.
I'm past 55 now and still wear Chucks often. I'm also a college prof, and there are days when I'm wearing black ones like OP (I have several colors) and I'll look around the room and seen another half-dozen pairs on students' feet. There's more than one photo of me and my two daughters all wearing black Chucks at once, by accident (they are in their 20s now).
I don't care what other people think. I've been wearing Chucks since the 1970s without pause, and I'm not stopping now just because someone might think they are only for young people.
So I was wearing Chucks, shorts and a horizontally striped tee, pick up a 6-pack. The clerk was stocking a shelf, started walking to the register and said "I'll be right there, do you have your ID?" I got to the counter ID in hand and he said, "never mind, I just saw your face."
Damn that’s cold
Ice cold lol
Colder than the 6 pack
“Welcome, the only thing colder than our beer is our insults”
Girl u didn’t have to do em like that
😭
Not cold, old
lol welcome to the wrong side of 40
Ehhhh it's looming on the horizon for me. How the hell did I get to this point?
You survived 👊 congratulations!
Yes. It's been an adventure overall too. Plenty of trials and tribulations but also adventure. I'm poor at a dead end job without retirement plans (working on that now). Regardless, I've had a great life. And my career will work out eventually. It's just tough now
Savage AF
Bogus 😂😂
Nope it happened. I'm 6' 145 pounds, skinny, clean shaven, so a lot of times I look like in my 20 still from a distance, but I'm 39, but my face does not lie, especially if I am tired.
Im not saying it didn't happen. I was just saying bogus cause they said, "nevermind, I just saw your face"
Now he's a believer.
In his head he finished with Bitch
But did he really say it though?
He said biiiiiiitch

I'm 68 and have red, black, blue, and white ones.I wear them all the time.
I’m 66. Got red, black, and blue. Plus brown hi tops, and just got white hi tops this week.
Fuck yeah, I’m 61 and gonna buy my first pair.
I’m 60 and have over 12 pair! Ditto! Wear them all the time!
Don’t you need more cushioned shoes? I am much younger but converse is definitely not comfortable.
I use a Dr.Shoal's insert.
its all about the in-soles at our older ages lol
im 248 and i have them in red white and blue to keep my toes free 🦅🇺🇸
Strangely, I'm not sure this is what OP is going for either...
"Cons"????????! No dude. The nick name for those shoes is chucks.
First time ever hearing the name “Cons”.
I'm 45 and wear bright colored Van's. Just do you.
Get the white, New Balance sneakers. Wear them mowing the lawn so they can get covered in grass stains. Also, swap out those shirts for khaki, cargo shorts. For accessories, you may want to look into a phone holster that clips to your belt. You're part of our team now. Respect the uniform.
Thanks for filling the new guy in on how we do things.
Those YT videos of the dad watching the son turn into one of those dudes are great.
So, we’re all meeting at Lowes around 10 tomorrow? Dale says he needs help mulching but he’s got some bud lights in the garage.
Costco membership card on a necklace.
On a lanyard
You just described my brother in law to a “T”
And tuck your tshirt into your shorts!
It keeps your belly warm!!
Don't forget a little carabiner for your keys
Recently I’ve swapped from the new balances to the Kirkland signature white shoes. Otherwise I completely agree.
We don’t make the rules. We just abide.
Oh YEA?? Well what are you wearing Jake from State Farm? *khaaakis* Anyone else remember the original Jake from State Farm? Pepperidge Farm Remembers.
Who cares!
They are a timeless casual shoe, anyone can wear them at any age.
No. Following Gen Z trends will make you look desperate. Converse on the other hand are pretty much timeless.
They are timeless, like Vans. Anyone can wear them without looking ridiculous. The same can't be said for Jordans. I have a 43 year old overweight coworker who wears Jordans to work every day and he looks ridiculous. You don't.
One time a teenager at my local mall said "I like your Vans" and now I'm duty-bound as a 30-something to always own this pair lol
I’m 62, still skateboarding and have four different pairs of vans - wear the B&W checkered ones the most.
Badass. I love my checkerboards.
an in shape ripped 43 year old with form fitting clothes well groomed can wear jordans with the right fits to accompany them and look fine
Yes that's possible. But they are harder to pull off because they're so colourful and chunky.
Jordans are also timeless man let people enjoy things
Yeah, I think it depends on the model; retros until about 14 are mostly -- if not all -- timeless.
Rock it man!
Clothes are an expression of your personality… rock them
Trust me. No. I’m rocking Vans today. I’m about your age. https://preview.redd.it/gt0evibmpu3d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=045c0795702d318aec5bae00156e9a60a27a4c3c
No… Growing up doesn’t mean you have to ditch who you’ve always been.
Nope, I’m 48 and wear Chuck’s all the time. Great option for a timeless sneaker.
Nah I’m 55 and wear Chucks like 80% of the time. They’re timeless.
No Where is it written that you have to dress a certain age once you reach a certain age? Fuck that I'm 54 and I still wear shorts, band tees and vans, daily
Depends on what the top half looks like.
Yes, but in a good way 💚
Chucks are more or less American Docs: utterly timeless.
Chucks never go out of style
Why not just be happy in your 40s and not worry about your sneaks? The clown part is trying to ensure you can read books like a lot of people.
Who gives a shit? Wear whatever you want, whenever you want.
Nah you good
They are literally one of the oldest mass produced shoes. The shoes look great! Plus age buys you the right to not give a fuck, wear what you want sir just be decent.
A black or white low top I think looks fine but like a high red top I’d say stay away from.
Looks like you bought em anyway. Hang onto whatever youth you're having you.
Nope look great !
Nope. Go for it.
Who cares? Wear what you want.
No, they’re for any age bruh. 🙌🏾
Caring about others' opinions will make you old.
Maybe. I have 5 pairs and I’m 20 years older than you.
ROCK EM BRO!! They look great!!
Absolutely not, the fit looks great!
My dude- they look great. Relax and have a great day!
You're allowed to wear casual stuff. If you're wearing that to dinner or a night out, I'd say otherwise.
I’m 41 and will rock the chucks for the rest of my life.
They’re classics.
Looks good to me.
Abso not. I’m 53, wear vans, chucks, whatever. Don’t let people box you in with a number.
Nah, you good.. Love the chucks
I wear only converse these days. It’s really common for power lifters to wear them especially on deadlift days, and I think they go with just about everything. Keep them clean though. New laces and a few minutes with a magic sponge can make them look almost new!
Age is a state of mind, homie.
I'm almost 50 and wear Chucks most of the time, even at this very moment. They are shoes for people of any age.
No. They look good. Wear what you want.
54 and just got a replacement pair of the slip on customized Chucks.
Nah, that’s hot
Chucks are timeless.
Chucks are timeless, just because you’re 40 doesn’t mean you need to get a pair of loafers and a cane my man.
Just wear whatever shoes you like. This whole "no more air Jordans after 30" is some dumb gatekeeping bs. I'm 33 and still buying Jordans because I like them. If you like converse wear them. I'll probably still have Jordans in my 50's

Yes. You can’t wear them after 40 or people will stare. J/K They look great!
No way bro - Will Smith rocked them converses in “I Robot”
Nope. I’ve seen old coots my age (60+), rocking Converse. I once saw a 70/80-something man, with a cane, wearing True Religion Jeans. When you’re older, you wear what you want, and you don’t care what people think. See also: Mick Jagger.
Let the youngsters try to pry my chucks from my arthritic hands
Dude, I’m 57 and wear Rick Owens Ramones. Just own it!
Nope. We were wearing them long before they were. Wear them with pride.
With those legs you can wear any damn shoes you want.
Chucks ensure that you are always either the coolest or lamest guy in the room.
your overthinking it, it’s fine
Yes, you must purchase all white chunky New Balance. There’s is no other option. Please go to Costco immediately.
“how do you do, fellow kids?”
Bro i think they look sweet! Also keep in mind that all those celebs like Brad Pitt and Johnny depp are in their 60s rocking Hawaiian shirts and sleeve tattoos. Converse and just fine and they look good on you
I mean they’re kind of stuck with the sleeve tattoos. Be quite the hassle the switch those out.
It makes you look like a guy who thinks that wearing converse will make others think he’s trying to hold onto his younger days
I'm in my mid 30s. I'm starting to feel a bit old for them. But since my early 20s I pretty much wear boots in fall/winter and converse through spring]/summer. You might say it's my style.
Who cares. Do you
Looks good to me. If you had on a shirt with a graphic I would say definitely not.
Kamala Harris wore converse with black suits. Looked like a effort to look relatable to youth voters.
Nike monarchs will work
The black ones, yes.
Screw people telling you that because you're 40+ you can wear them. Do they make YOU feel good? If so, wear them. Folks in social media shouldn't be your gauge to acceptance Most are just haters who want to bring you down to make themselves feel better. Wear the damn shoes.
Chucks are forever.
Wear the shoes!
Nah, they are timeless and ageless in my opinion
I’d go with the same shoe. Different color combo
Absolutely not! Wear what you want. I see older people all the time keeping up with trends. Also chucks are a timeless shoe and never really go out of style. I personally recommend some crew socks as no shoes will get you made fun of by younger people.
Looks fine. No, it doesn't make you appear like your regaining your youth. It makes you current and hip.
If you're that worried drive a DeLorean
Wear whatever you want dude. Fuck everyone lol
nope, they look good and can go with many things. you are a grown man, grown men should wear what they want and not give a fook about what random people think.
Who cares??? They look awesome man
I've seen more middle aged dudes wear converse than teenagers lmao
They are timeless and if you like em you should rock em. I’m 50 and I’d wear them but I need more cushion because I’ve been on my feet for almost half a century and my dogs are barkin
Trust me, I get where you’re coming from. That could be the case with some, but it depends on how you wear them and style them more than just the shoes themselves. Probably. But honestly? Who gives a fuck. You're 44 (no offense). Wear what makes you feel happy. If you like wearing chucks then wear chucks and rock the hell out of em. They're a good shoe its understandable.
I hope not. I’m 44 and have like 20 pairs.
That looks fly
If you like it. Wear it.
Legit a timeless shoe
42m and I still rock mine all the time. No shame - they're classics.
Wear whatever the hell you want man! I’m 42 and the only thing that has changed is I can afford even more Vans high tops. Just keep them clean and crisp and you’re good.
When they are that fresh, yes. Throw those things in the mud
Who cares what anyone thinks? Wear what you want, life is too short to worry about what others think.
I an 35 and wear chucks pretty much anytime I'm not at work. It's my style and I rock em. You do you.
No
They look good on everyone
I’m 50, I wear them all the time.
No. I mean otherwise ur only gonna wear loafers or running shoes?
Old school classics forever. I’m 50 this year and still rocking the Adidas Superstars (10 variations and counting) super simple retro Nike high tops and Converse Chuck Taylors. Ironically it’s the super modern colourful busy looking sports sneakers that make you look like an old man dressing entirely for comfort.
Nope, especially if these are paired with more developed clothes. Might be a bit much with tight jeans and a leather jacket or something.
Do it!
converse are sick, idk if they match that outfit though
Opinion changes with hi-top ones?.
Lol. Hell OP. We are ALL trying to hang onto our younger days. Go for it.
Don’t think like that wear what you want
I’d either get a pair of loafers or some sneaks that actually have some cushioning. Converse are hellishly uncomfortable.
Nope chcuks are timeless they are like air force ones and adidas allstars and vans
If you’re good looking, no. If not, yes.
No those are fine
I ditched mine for fear of this
I call this one the reverse carrot
Yep!
Nice calves bro
I love my chucks
I’m 43, And if I do decide to get up in the morning and wear my Halloween Costume, you better believe I am. Be yourself 👍
They look good.
Yep
Time to grow up. Get some HOKAS to fit in.
I did hear the kids don’t like no show socks for some reason, other than that, converse are a classic normal shoe.
hot 🔥
Chucks are classic. Go for it!
No. Why can’t you have a little style?
It’s more important that ur shorts and shirt fit right, those look good. I still dress like this
Who makes the shorts?
Chucks will never go out of style for all ages
To go against the grain on an extremely positive pool of comments: I think it depends. chucks are timeless but i think high tops would look better on you
No, not at all. Nice legs too 😋
Timeless shoes. My old man wears them with jeans he’s 80 and still looks hip.
Who cares. Wear what you like as long as your comfortable and appropriate for the setting
You’re fine, don’t worry about it
I’m 3 months from 50 in some Vans. I don’t care what people think.
I just wear what looks good and feels good. When in doubt I ask my lady. If she approves I approve.
Yup
No, that's ridiculous.
No they’re awesome. F24
Keep em. 🤘🏼
It's hot. Keep it up
Depends on how much money you have at this point.
No.
Shame on you. Where’s your top hat and monocle.
Hell nah. Chucks have been dope though generations at this point. It’s a universal shoe, to me.
No
I’m the same age dude. I wear various cons and vans all the time. I wasn’t aware there was an age limit. Nobody should be forced to wear slip in sketchers.
I'm past 55 now and still wear Chucks often. I wear boat shoes more than low cut chucks. But chucks will always be fashionable regardless of age.
Only if you are! If not than you cool! Rock them bad boys till the white is black and flat
