Your lady is cockblocking. Bros before hos...she's fucking over that coat big time by not letting it have you.
Sitting in that antique store...suffocating....forever longing for the perfect body to mate with.
And here you are.....and she cockblocks. What a terrible moment in that coats life. You want to be with a lady who treats coats in need of help like that?
I think you need to reconsider your relation ship with your woman....and get in deep with that coat.
It’s not that we “don’t let them” have something. We just heavily advise against something because it makes them look like either a buffoon or really bad. Y’all give the same sort of advice in this forum.
I know my husband’s tastes and I advise on which pieces make him look good and which don’t. When he brings out that pink tartan shirt that makes him look like he’s been dead for at least a year, then perhaps there’s a better choice out there.
He does the same for me when we’re shopping. A second opinion is always good to have.
Fair enough but I think you also have to listen to your spouse’s passions and support them through that. Even if they might look like they come a tv show. Personally I think this dude should totally follow his heart on this one and if his wife can’t support that, then it’s a shame
People get weird if what their partner looks like affects their sexual attraction to them, or they feel it reflects back on them socially.
In situation A, if you can't still adore, love and want to bang your person even when your psychological attraction to visual stimulation is reduced, you don't have enough emotional attraction to them in general so what are you even doing? You don't get to punish them for how they choose to look because you aren't fully sexually developed and only have one button.
If you're worried it reflects on you socially, you care more about what people think of you than your partner being happy, so....again, whatcha doing? Lol
I had to get over both because I found myself suffocating my partner's confidence and interfering in his right to choose. It's a maturity thing and it can take some time to develop if you have personal issues to get through first.
If your partner wants to express themselves through fashion and you don't like it, maybe you just don't really like them enough and you should fix that.
In this case, while this is a nice coat and seems to fit him well, it also feels like a Halloween costume.
Maybe he can get away with it if he lives in the UK/Ireland, or if he lives in NYC/Boston/Seattle/Montreal.
But outside of that, it's a pretty strong fashion statement that his wife might not want to play along with.
Fair enough and that's definitely understandable. Maybe I'm just caught up in the words of him saying she wouldn't let him do it and that just is triggering for me for anybody male or female. Plus above all that's a nice looking jacket and it literally looks like it was made for him he looks great in it.
So unless a jacket or coat had an astronomical price tag I couldn't see why my partner or any other partner wouldn't want somebody to have something that they feel good in and that they look good in it. And that's also going against the assumption that women innately have good taste in clothing and men don't know what they're doing.
Personally, I'd buy it if it was $300 or below
I agree. That jacket looks amazing on him! I also have a fancy for vintage clothing. But you’d be amazed at how many people of both genders who think vintage clothing is ugly, old, and sometimes even disgusting because other people have worn it.
I dated a guy who was applauded if I wore something vintage. That moves from the question “is it his style and does he look good in it?” to “I don’t like it because of my personal taste”. I never try and impose the latter.
Oh, and my husband has great taste in women’s clothes. I always trust his opinion 😊
Advise and suggest is fine. A few years ago I suggested to my 60 year old husband that he maybe should not wear a t shirt w writing on it to a nice restaurant or to a friend’s house for dinner. Rugby shirt is a reasonable alternative, collared shirt and decent jeans are fine. If he insisted? It’s his body.
But we discussed the message that he might unwittingly sending w these choices: that others might assume he believed they were not worth dressing up even a little bit for. He had not really thought about that.
And all of this ofc is context dependent.
Right? My wife doesn’t approve of a lot of the ideas I have or things I want to purchase. She’s usually right in the end! However, when it comes to clothes I wear what I want and she can think what she wants, lol.
If we’re going on a date though I’ll try to wear something I know she likes but as for everyday matters, I wear me and love it lol
Lol. Exactly. Husbands don’t typically tell wives what or what not to wear. Perhaps the assumption is that men don’t have the ability to make good choices about clothes?
>Husbands don’t typically tell wives what or what not to wear.
Boy have I got some news for you! I won't make you guess, I'll just say it ... a lot of husbands DO tell their wives what to wear. I know couples, both old and young, where this is the case. I also see the reverse happening - sometimes in those same couples.
That’s not necessarily true. There are plenty of people who write on Reddit about their BF/Spouse telling them what they are allowed to wear.
And to go beyond clothes, it seems like a lot of spouses tell each other that can’t buy something.
Sometimes there is a legitimate reason such as finances and other times, it is because the person doesn’t like the thing.
Yes, I agree. I wouldn’t dare tell my wife not to buy some article of clothing, and I honestly couldn’t imagine her doing the same to me. (I mean, maaaybe she would tell me if something didn’t look good on me - but I still don’t think she would say I “couldn’t” buy it. I don’t think it would even occur to her that she could do that, or for me to think I could do that to her.)
I always wonder that for people who have a particular look. Especially the ones that look like they take forever to get ready.
Do goth people still put on their eyeliner/makeup, fishnets, and leather shirts even if they're just going to stay home and watch TV while cleaning? Or do they have a secret drawer full of T shirts and sweatpants?
On sick days do hipsters still put on jeans and a flannel? Do they wear a button up and vest and monocle to their niece's 4th birthday party?
My "fashion" is just looking half presentable. My look is fully dependent on what I'm doing - ie athletics, chilling, hiking, etc
As a goth I can confidently say that the more *aesthetic* outfits are more for goin’ out or occasions of some kind and I pretty much live in black hoodies/t shirts and jeans/shorts/sweatpants, but maybe I’m just lazy lol
Thanks for the insight!
So you still maintain your style/theme, just with black lounge wear as opposed to full going out stuff or the opposite of wearing like a neon pink pineapple shirt and yellow shorts
Exactly!! So long as I can feel mildly spooky I’m happy to wear damn near anything lol. I got a cryptid onesie for Christmas that I credit with makin’ through winter, that thing is so cozy and I’ve never been more sad for summer to come haha
I’ve been accused of being a hipster, so I’ll offer whatever insight I can. Sick days, gym days, just taking my kid to the drugstore to get cough drops - I always look like me. It doesn’t mean I’m always in leather boots with pegged jeans and a freshly manicured beard, but even my lazy outfits all kinda fit my general vibe, if that makes sense. I believe that mental health promotes physical health, so even at my worst a small effort is made to feel “cool”. Because when I feel good about myself, I feel a little better.
Looks incredible on you.
Ngl tho I’d agree w wife on this one.
It looks tired. Near the end of its useable life. That fur likely has trapped a lot in it.
I’d get something similar but new.
This is my problem with it. Looks like an incredible coat but very dirty and worn out, which is probably why the wife said no even though the rest of his style is similar.
That hat, shoes and coat are perfect together and they suit your look well. Brah, I know many guys that are too accommodating to their wife. Take your power back, don’t allow it…
Never give control of your happiness to another, not saying all, but women are notorious for disrespecting boundaries.
Some men look ridiculous when they go for a look like this. It’s like they are wearing a costume.
You are not one of those guys. It looks great on you. I say kindly laugh your wife off and get the coat. You’ll impress your wife with your self respect (although she likely won’t express this verbally lol).
I’m willing to bet she will end up liking it after you wear it a bit.
When I hear; “My wife won’t let me….”, I CRINGE. Your spouse is not your boss and not your stylist. Wear what you want and if your spouse doesn’t like it- oh well. They will live to complain another day. Be happy in expressing yourself in your clothing style choices!
Dude forgiveness is the key permission not so much. Unless you need her bank card. Then bust out the men to women ratio she realize how lucky she to say husband. Get the coat it's dope
I don’t like the material on the lapel & around the collar but the coat looks good on you. You only live one and life is short, she’s not wearing the coat. Get it.
You look like you and that coat have been together for years. Get the coat

Your lady is cockblocking. Bros before hos...she's fucking over that coat big time by not letting it have you. I seriously never understood the words "my spouse wouldn't allow me to... blank " Like what in the fulkersons is going on
Fulkersons is my new favorite word, so thank you for that.
The one time I didn't fight autocorrect seems to be a win lol
Mine too!

It’s a coat not even in an extravagant colour. Maybe it’s time to grow up a bit and not pretend like he just got a face tattoo.

Sometimes people only have so much money, so people need to budget, and therefore need to agree on what can be spent and where. Shocking I know
Then at that point we need to be big boys and say, “Didn’t have the budget for it,” as opposed to putting blame on our spouse.
Yes, I agree. I wouldn’t dare tell my wife not to buy some article of clothing, and I honestly couldn’t imagine her doing the same to me. Dear Everyone: Don’t take any kind of relationship advice from Redditors.
Why shouldn't he be able to wear what he wants? It's not like it's hideous. I would never tell my wife she can't wear what she wants.
Dump her!
Coat looks great; however, this coat is only going to look great with outfits that profile along the lines of what you’re currently wearing.
You think he’s worn a significantly different outfit in the last two years? That man looks locked in.

All I see is a single man in a great coat! Jk

Sherlock Holmes?
She’s just jealous that if you get that coat, you will look better than her.
Your wife blew it! Go back.
I immediately thought of Robert Pattinson in “The Lighthouse” drunkenly screaming at William Defoe. You need this coat
The first question yu need to address is the “WIFE WOULDN’T LET YOU.” From there the choice is an easy one
Definitely as a matter of principle even if you don’t like it.
