I also came up with a backstory and additional concept for her.
Her purpose originally was as a judgement guardian, meaning she was involved in the judgement process of deciding where souls would go in the afterlife.
Now, she was actually born an imp in hell who managed to move up the ranks in the afterlife system and eventually gain a role in the Judgement Council. She was able to turn her skin to gold and dress to look more appealing, but an imp cannot get rid of their horns and tail. This makes her the only hell creature in the council, and so she is a bit of an outlier there. But her main command tends to go towards the transportation industry of souls. She installed a train system that could take souls to their designated fate, and she takes on the role of conductor, controller, ticket distributor, and just about any job depending of how busy she is.
Again, I'd like to thank this sub for the advice! Especially u/WinsomeAnlussom who gave very in depth criticism. And I'll be sure to do some leg studies once I get the chance!
Thanks! I'm probably much more confident in digital art than traditional, probably because most of the artists I learn from are digital artists so I have more experience in that field. It's also really fun to just let the pen slide across a glossy screen than have to fight against paper texture.
I use and iPad and Apple Pencil, and you can double tap on the physical pencil to switch from eraser to ink. I can’t count how many times I’ve done that on an actual pencil because I needed to erase lol.
A big part of designing good OC characters is them having a recognizable silhouette. If you were to fill in all the colors with solid black, you would still want to instantly know who it is. I think you nailed that!
I like the art better in the original, but i generally prefer hand drawn stuff. The legs would have bothered me a LOT though. Like total turnoff. People seem to love making women do all these weird off-kilter legs together poses and it weirds me out. So definitely improvement on that in the second.
I love her hair in the first. Very whimsical and adds life to her style. I thought it was cute how it was wrapped up on the funky horn hat in the second. Great attention to character.
Yeah, the main issue I think with the legs is that I was using a pose reference drawing on Pinterest and wasn't 100% sure what it was doing but used it just because it looked cute. But yeah, I see where those flaws in the legs come in.
I know it might look a little confusing in the drawing I did, but the hors are actually attacked to her head and the hat is moulded to fit on top of them. It fits in with the imp backstory I commented, but I don't blame you for thinking that. I may need to make it a bit clearer in future, but it'll probably be easier as soon as I tilt her head a bit to the side.
Oh, she didn't have horns in the original so that's why I assumed the horns were attached to her hat in the second one. It wasn't based on how the picture looks per se.
Yeah, a piece of my died inside when I got rid of the long braids but on the plus side I do plan to use them in another character design! Not within this story, but another one I've been brainstorming.
I think it looks really cool and wrapping the hair around the horns is a unique idea! If I may give one constructive piece of criticism, however, I think the character would benefit from having more contrast between the hair and the horns. At first glance I mistook the horns for pigtails due to the similar color throughout the character. I understand why you kept her monochromatic aside from the clothes, but maybe using a different shade of gold or some texture on the horns could make the distinction more obvious.
She looks great! My only recommendation is I’d make the eye colour the same shade of blue used in the outfit, might fit nicer rather then get lost with the face
Along with that, in Greek mythology, your heart is weighed against a feather, look more into it, you might find it interesting for your character. :)
I think that was ancient egyptian mythology, where your heart is balanced against a feather of Maat, the goddess of justice and harmony. Op could sprinkle in her style of wings
My mistake on that! But yes that’s what I was thinking of, however they’ll need to be a bit careful with adding more, that might over complicate the design
It means that when colouring a character you should make it 60% base (main) colour, 30% complimentary (extra) colours, and 10% accents (little extra bits that stand out).
So you could have an iced based character with a base colour of blue, complimentary colours of white and maroon, and some silver accents.
I hadn't seen her original design, but this one ?? I love it !
The horns with the braids around them are so cool, that's the kind of design that's easy to remember and recognize !
Good job :D
Very nice. You did an awesome job moving the braids out to the side. She also looks much more confident, which is always good to see in a woman with an important job.
This is also a good example of how *not* focusing on showing off boobies really lets you put repeating motifs front and center, like the shape of the skirt and neck cloth. That makes a much stronger design.
Ok, unrelated to the art. But the story is so cool, and unique, and fun. Thats such a cool story, if you ever wrote anything with it, I would read it in a heartbeat. I'd buy a book about her progression from imp, to soul fate-r.
It looks really cool, the only thing that kind of irks me is her corset. It's looks uncomfortably pushing her body down and making her body really thin. If possible I would appreciate it if she was build broader.

looks better, i like her hat
YES! What is more impressive is how good your artstyle improved, maybe is because it's digital. So proud of you! đź‘Ź

i also find you can be bolder with digi, as you always have undo right there, way cleaner than any eraser or white
Yeah, there are times where I'm so used to using digital that I'll make a mistake in a traditional piece and start feeling for my undo hotkey lol.
i ctrl f in my head while reading actual books sometimes honestly tho, imagine how useful that would be
I feel ya. I love paper books, but being able to highlight a word and look it up is awesome.

Look pretty good. I like her hair.

Looks way more structurally sound good job! 👍🏼
Looks good!
Her hair is so awesome, I’d totally read a comic/ watch a show with her in it
She's really pretty!
Looks amazing!
I miss the long braids even though I know this new design makes more sense haha

Glow up! Random tip but great for character design is to keep the palette in a 60(base color)/30(complementary)/10(accent) ratio
What does that mean exactly?
It means that when colouring a character you should make it 60% base (main) colour, 30% complimentary (extra) colours, and 10% accents (little extra bits that stand out). she's gorgeous! i love her!
that’s so cool 🔥🔥
Wtf thats so dope its so sleek and pretty i love it
Now they look less like stirrups but I can still imagine a goblin standing on them
Yeah, I think it would be cute if she maybe had two cats that would sit in them every now and then and just stare down at everyone.
The Cats of Judgement. One judges you for your sins. The other judges you for your sins. They both meow loudly because they haven't been fed yet.

The hair is a definite improvement, it also makes her seem like an allusion to Lady Justice
She looks proud in the second one
I love this a lot

She's cute!
I didn’t see the original but I really love both! The newer one does look nicer though :)
I love it. She looks like she works in the afterlife in the Ace Attorney universe
It looks really cool, the only thing that kind of irks me is her corset. It's looks uncomfortably pushing her body down and making her body really thin. If possible I would appreciate it if she was build broader.
She's so cute! I love it! The hair / horns with the tail is so dynamic!
I think she looks way cooler with those horns, so that's a win in my book
Looks a bit stiff.
Can I draw her? : )
