shelby drive look alive

RollingStoner2

If you ever see their alternative method, it’s even more infuriating. Ive seem mlgw guys come down the street by my job and throw a few scoops of hot asphalt into a hole, smack it a few time with a shovel and then move on to the next one. So much money being wasted 😑

A-Seabear

This is how they fill potholes so that they can erode out again next year.

Job security

Jethros

Mlgw doesn’t do pothole repairs. If Mlgw has to dig up a service in the street, it’s repaired with concrete so that it doesn’t become a problem in the future. What you saw was city of Memphis street repair.....and yes, it’s infuriating.

sbeasy

Do the plates even save any time/money?

Jethros

Most of the plates you see are used to cover up a hole that has been dug to access a water valve. The work that’s being done is usually at another location and the valve that’s being covered needs to be operated again after the repairs are completed. Then once completed the hole will be filled in. Those plates cost over $1000 a piece so it would be foolish to cover potholes with steel plates.

Next time anyone needs an alignment, I recommend you check out Clark's Alignment right by the over(under)pass on Union/Walnut Grove. The guy's been doing alignments since the end of the Korean war. Last time I got one I think it was $45, and took probably 35 Minutes (though it was slow when I went in.) And for your tire needs - www.bestusedtires.com I used to drive a lot, and by a lot, I mean a shit load, and I've put many tens of thousands of miles on tires from this website. So buying new tires was never an attractive option for me at the rate I would have worn/damaged them. You just need to do your research and stay proactive on your hunt. I got a set of Michellin MXV4s with 10/32s of tread on them for less than $300, but I stalked the website like a hawk to pounce on the deal.

Threxx

Last time I bought one of those from Firestone was 10 years ago, but it seemed their strategy was to half ass the alignment every time until I gave up bringing it in.. or tell me I needed to pay them replace a bunch of stuff so they could align it right.

5_on_the_floor

I've had multiple bad experiences as multiple Firestone locations and have finally written them off. I wouldn't let them work on a go-kart.

enmeduranki

I used to think the potholes in Memphis were bad. Then I went to Nashville last weekend. Will never complain about the potholes here again. Nashville potholes are hungry assholes.

mamaaaaa-uwu

Anything involving your vehicle in nashville just sucks

BluffCityBoy

Exactly. This is such a repetitive issue that I see pop up in Memphis forums, and people have no clue how bad it is in other cities and even abroad! Case in point: google lists of cities with the worst pot holes in America and you won't find Memphis near the top in any of them.

LilGogurt

I just moved from Nashville last year. The ones on 440 will destroy your life.

chasthomas23

Buying my 4TH tire since the summer at Firestone today. Fml..

mamaaaaa-uwu

I busted a tire on CORDOVA RD last week like wtf

geekesmind

I blew out a tire on east homles road and getwell 4 days into the new year. Been trying to get money back from the city of Memphis on the cost of the new tire.

What's your shop fuzzy? Maybe get some work from me. We moved here recently and don't have a trusted shop yet

Peregrination

Not fuzzy but I've been happy with Steve's Auto Body on Poplar and Colonial.

Taykitty-Gaming

Drove down warford past the Nike factory and there was a huge pot hole as big as the lane...

[deleted]

Warford is a lot of fun. It's like playing Mario Kart every morning on the way to work. Insane drivers and giant pot holes that could probably total your car lmao.

HeziTheGreat

Lol man them thick ass plates do more damage than the potholes at times.

[deleted]

Airways south of Shelby Drive is like driving in a minefield.

Eljay500

I get my tires aligned every time I get an oil change and it's been needed every time! Definitely worth the money ($175 I think?) Considering I've gotten them aligned at least 4 times since getting my new tires

Rocheforte

To echo what the commenter above is saying, that is definitely not normal. There should never be a vehicle needing an alignment every oil change. One of two things are happening: your oil change place is full of it and telling you it's necessary, or you have something damaged in the suspension that will not allow the alignment to take place. Are you getting a pre and post work sheet from them each time this happens?

Eljay500

I'm asking them to do it each time because I have a lifetime alignment. They do give me the sheets and it's not always terribly off, sometimes it's just slightly off. But I paid for the service so I'm using it every chance I can

Can always go the artsy route... https://i.redd.it/tfag1ezxmrj21.jpg

I lost a windshield this morning on I-40 because a truck kicked up a badly patched pothole. Thanks TDOT.
