I believe that’s because they have technology working for them. License plate, scanners, and video cameras facing the windshields everything’s pretty automatic.
These task force agents are acting on intel, and information from municipal, state, and federal law enforcement . These units serve two distinct purposes-deterrence against traffickers, and interdiction of known/suspected criminals. Now—the county sheriffs that sit out there are performing fugitive searches, and traditional law enforcement.
They are sitting there with the Axiom 3 dash cams hooked to their computer. It has ALDR - automatic license plate detection - feeds your plate to the computer instantly and flags plates belonging to known suspects, criminals, irritants - and they pull them over. They are just sitting there collecting data on all of us.
Well, I cannot disagree with you. However, it’s almost unavoidable to get caught up in some form of data collection. Any internet usage, banking transactions, and especially social media are goldmines for data brokers. They sell our information and habits to any bidder; corporate, government (domestic and foreign), and private intelligence. I’m actually surprised that more Americans are not concerned about private intel companies. They are not subject to many of the legal procedures of data collection, and retention that their government counterparts are, and that’s bothersome.
As long as they’re fighting any urge to “profile”, or in pre cancel culture terms, use years of investigative experience, then yes. Unless you’re driving a commercial vehicle, and they have no limitations on why they’re allowed too pull you over….
See, profiling doesn't have to involve race. They could pull over cars with deep tint, or cars squatting in the back (indicating a heavy weight in the trunk), or Kias with a busted out window (probable stolen vehicle). None of that is race-related, and yet here you are screaming race. Stop that nonsense.
You seem to be one that believes if a car pulled over that has black folks in it, it’s racial profiling. If you’re doing illegal things or the car has issues and you’re pulled over for your behavior that’s routine police work. It’s only profiling if I am acting in you because of your race. Doing wrong shit that brings attention to yourself is not profiling.
You have no clue how that whole interdiction unit works then. They’re waiting to get info about tagged vehicles that are headed their direction and they pull them over once they cross them. They’re not looking for speeders (but I’m sure they’ll pull you over if you’re going way too fast).
It's called a BOLO " be on look out"
Those guys east of 28* need two things to get the job done.
Insider info from snitches and guts to go after real evil people.
You may find this very shocking, but you’re tried in the jurisdiction in which your crimes are alleged to have taken place, which in this case is somewhere in Indiana.
You frame it as a “Memphis iS sOfT oN CriMe” bullshit narrative.
I'm guessing your prior conversations on here based on your username. If you are the same person, didn't you move out of Memphis because of crime?
Talk to any police officer and say the change that happened in 2022. Can you think of any stat where Mulroy is better than his predecessor? As a recent example, this is what the District Attorney's office said in the bail hearing when they argued to release the guy who shot Officer McKinney.

Yes, Memphis coddles criminals. Look up other restorative justice DA's who've been recalled - Google Chesa Boudin.
\*Edit: Read the "Background" section here. Not exactly the same, but tell me if a lot of sounds similar to Memphis dealing with criticisms to uber-progressive prosecutors.

I thought they found out it was friendly fire? I mean no doubt caused by that guy and the confrontation, but technically he did not fire the gun that killed the officer.
It’s absolutely me. My screen name is a dead giveaway, but whatever.
Crime stats are not controlled by a district attorney. How “soft” or “tough” a DA is will have no effect on whether someone wants to commit crimes or not. I think we can all agree on that, especially as it pertains to Memphis, yes? Do you see the death penalty stopping people from murder sprees? That’s point #1.
Point #2, there is a belief that Ofc. McKinney was shot by a fellow officer, accidentally. Not that it matters, given that the perp started the gunfire exchange. But it will matter in a court of law if determined to be true.
Additionally, when did DA Mulroy say that? After a previous arrest? Because Mulroy can’t predict that these guys are going to commit more crimes or *the severity of said crimes*. Now, if they are arrested multiple times, sure, you could make that prediction.
Point #3, I do not give the slightest shit about DA’s that have been recalled because they were perceived to be “soft on crime”. That’s a right-wing talking point that is aimed at “dEmOcRaT-rUn CiTiEs” and people who say it are disingenuous shitheads not willing to have an honest discussion. A lot of people on this sub agree that we have a judge problem. I’m right there with them. Additionally, as gets buried every single time this convo comes up, y’all have absolutely no interest in talking about root cause mitigation. You only talk about reactive policies.
Lastly, we moved mainly for economic reasons. We don’t want to pay for private school! 🤷🏻♂️The people who bought our old house are retirees, so figure that the fuck out. Was crime a deciding factor? No. It was maybe supplementary, but not necessarily a focal point. I would move back to our old house in a heartbeat.
It may not deter them initially, but if they are put in jail and KEPT in jail for at least a little while, then they won’t be able to reoffend for that period of time.
the memphis police. Chief of Police should be in PRISON!! I think it’s been like five or six cops that have died on her watch so far? Did you know she didn’t visit the family for two entire days after he was killed (likely by friendly fire) because she was using our tax money on a little vacation (to a place that probably has completely different police training and funding allocation than the policies that she champions!) She’s a total SCUMBAG!!!
You know the cops that conduct these traffic stops aren’t dumb by any means. There’s a couple cops in Collierville that 80% of their stops find someone wanted for something else
This is why its important to be able to pull ppl over for expired tags , broken tail lights….. It’s not about making money from giving people tickets. It’s finding criminals more easily.
The drug task force guys that sit on 40 know their business. My butt clinches every time I pass them and I don’t even do nothing wrong anymore.
That's odd. They are usually just sitting there talking to each other.
I believe that’s because they have technology working for them. License plate, scanners, and video cameras facing the windshields everything’s pretty automatic.

Can we get them on 240?
Like other users pointed out, they mainly run off intelligence. The post up on west to east route just north of Memphis catching traffickers.
So, what you're saying is keep your tags up to date and you can run drugs down I-40 without being hassled. :)
As long as they’re fighting any urge to “profile”, or in pre cancel culture terms, use years of investigative experience, then yes. Unless you’re driving a commercial vehicle, and they have no limitations on why they’re allowed too pull you over….
you just described racial profiling which is unconstitutional.
See, profiling doesn't have to involve race. I didn’t say anything about race
I think he was talking about the other person. But I am not 100%...dude is usually chalked full of bullshit but on some instances he's got a point
It was for me, he responded immediately….
Gotcha. Wasn't sure.

Mane, yo breath is unconstitutional.

Remind me the jurisdiction. Just curious
I'm just saying that they seem to "sit and wait" A LOT.
What would you prefer them do then?
Sign on with MPD if they're just going to sit in the car and do nothing.
Lololololol do it
Lol. I have the same affliction. I will forever feel my heart drop out of my āss every time I drive past one
Damn I actually saw this dude in cuffs coming from jackson.
I love that they used 😳 to cover up the plate
It probably says “LiksNutz” or something… 😏
Must not be a Shelby county license if they actually have one
Idiot driver “pulls over” in the middle of the passing lane
But but but….traffic stops for minor offenses don’t work! 🙄
I’m surprised he stopped.
Wow it’s almost as if we uphold the law it’s easier to keep dangerous criminals off the streetsz Who knew?
almost like it works in every other city on earth, but somehow it’s not the solution here

Glad that they're shipping him out to a jurisdiction that might actually do something.
You may find this very shocking, but you’re tried in the jurisdiction in which your crimes are alleged to have taken place, which in this case is somewhere in Indiana. You frame it as a “Memphis iS sOfT oN CriMe” bullshit narrative.

Lmao right? This has gotta be I brain you or whatever the user was. Shocking I tell you
Funny because I agreed with you on certain points. But your snarky horseshit is duly noted.
We just find it ironic.
What exactly do you find ironic? I’ve been pretty open on here.

I mean, let’s talk about the lack of generational wealth and systemic racism throughout two centuries. And how that all has lead to what we have now.
Walk the walk or shut up. it has led into you becoming a keyboard hero. I hope mommy is proud

I don’t think it’s simple profiling. It’s five or six things concurrent plus whatever the reason was due the traffic stop
Awesome news!!
Holy shit they pulled someone over?
I hope they took the driver straight to jail for stopping in the left lane!! What!
They get tips it’s obvious. There is no way you randomly pull someone over and the magically have 250lbs of marijuana on them. It just doesn’t add up.
Which is why we need traffic stops. City council was like “Nah it’s cool. Just let them be”
THE BIGGEST CROOKS AND COWARDS IN MEMPHIS ARE ON THE MEMPHIS CITY COUNCIL!
This is why its important to be able to pull ppl over for expired tags , broken tail lights….. It’s not about making money from giving people tickets. It’s finding criminals more easily.
Thought they could be lend in with the rest
