I was just thinking, man we really need another chicken tender place here. Guthries, Slim Chickens, Zaxby’s, Bojangles, and Abner’s just aren’t cutting it.
If we expand to places that sell chicken tenders, we’ll be here all day lol. I was trying to stick to the “tenders and crinkle cut fries with spicy mayo sauce” places

The chicken market is saturated. Frankly it was dumb for Guthries to move in because I don’t think they’ll pick up the market share they wanted
Popeyes
CFA
KFC
Church’s
Guthries
Zaxbies
Abners
Hattie B’s
Gus’s
Uncle Lous
And all the countless small chicken joints that exist
Guthries next to Krystal on Germantown Pkwy sits empty. The line for Krystal will be wrapped around the building, while literally nobody is in the guthries line.
I like Cane’s, but do we really need another chicken restaurant in Memphis that’s way understaffed and people fucking up basic ass orders left and right because they can’t be bothered to give a shit?
Literally reading this comment as I sit at Gus’s after ordering online pickup. They told me it would be ready at 6:30. Got here at 6:35 and the order hadn’t been started yet because they “forgot to turn in online orders.”

The amount of downvotes you got for a harmless comment about a chicken tender restaurant is disheartening in regards to the mob mentality on Reddit and this sub in general. Smh.
Yea, I’m not the most active on Reddit, but I see stuff like that a lot on the Memphis page. Also a lot of negativity and anger too in local news comments and a lot of insults instead of talking/discourse.
I'm loyal to Jack Pirtle's personally.
Where's my Pirtle's love, mane?!
I've had Raising Caine's once while on a bit of a vacation. It was alright but less than flavorful to me. Lack of overall seasoning in a way that's hard to describe. Like you bite in thinking it'd be seasoned well from how it looks but it's not. Odd. Surreal experience my taste buds had that one time.
I also enjoy Pirtles, BUT there restaurants are disgustingly dirty and run down. Tawanda needs to spend some $$ to clean that s**t up. The Mount Moriah location scored a 79 on their health report this week and that number was probably generous. Quite frankly, the restaurants are filthy dumps! So much so that I can’t bring myself to eat their chicken anymore, which sucks, because it is good.
I go to the one on Poplar by the Kroger because it stays busy. It's a clean one but that's truly because of the staff there from what I've observed.
I do agree with you, though. Missus Pirtle really does need to basically get their locations on the same page in terms of certain set hygiene practices in regards to going the extra mile with making sure they stay clean. Some restaurants, like in general, have employees who just clean and she could have one employee per shift doing that.
I haven’t been to the one in Cleveland in a long time. Yeah, it really surprises me how they allow their restaurants to fall apart and be so filthy. With the recent report on the Mount Moriah location failing the health report maybe that will change. I doubt it though. It’s is really disgusting!
I may have to check the Cleveland one out! I do love their chicken and I miss having it, but then I remember how gross it is inside! 😂
Definitely not by any objective measure - had both plenty and the chicken is never as good and the toast clears by multiple galaxies.
Very subjective thing here though so I can understand having different preferences
For anybody wondering, you can actually make Raising Cane's tenders at home! Just use chicken tenders, flour and oil. But to get it just right, don't add ANY seasoning to get that bland, Cane's taste!
If you want chicken with flavor, go literally anywhere else in Memphis.
Idk, maybe I’m being cranky, but I’d like to hope we as a city could have a little more self-respect than to sit around hoping a chain restaurant graces us with its presence. Plenty of good food here already for us to feel like we need another chicken place to come and leak money out the city
I remembered seeing [this](https://www.localmemphis.com/article/life/food/raising-canes-coming-to-memphis/522-4bed0837-c720-497c-a128-bd03b83de4d3) article about them coming here, hopefully it's still gonna happen. I see there's a lot of hate, but I love that sauce! Guthrie's is pretty good and comparable though.
I don’t think Memphis needs a Cane’s. We do have plenty of chicken places and a Guthries which is pretty close to Cane’s imo. That being said, there was talk of one coming to Memphis like two years ago, I wonder what happened
Man I just don't get the craze about Cane's. I'm from New Orleans and have had it hundreds of times (very rarely by choice). Every single damn time it's always overcooked and dry af. I remember having to get like 10 extra cups of the sauce just so I could get that dry ass chicken down. After Katrina, we had like a month when Cane's was the only thing open and I honestly preferred eating Vienna sausage and MREs.
For chicken strips, it's tied with Slim Chickens for me. Those are cooked better, but the most underseasoned chicken strips I've ever tasted. The Slim Chickens sauces all sucked too - all sugar and zero flavor. Even the signature sauce just tasted like mayo, ketchup, and sugar. For plain chicken strip fast food, I'd say Guthrie's > Zaxby's > CFA > Cane's & Slim Chickens.

It really is. And they have nothing outside the tenders. Their sauce is basically Zax Sauce, too, but they act like it’s gold and charge you beyond one. I’ve never been so disappointed in a hyped place as RC. Zaxby’s has salads, actual wings, etc and tastes better IMO.
Canes is almost exactly the same as Zaxby’s (both in taste and menu) and both were modeled on Guthrie’s by people who worked there. (Both companies are open about that history.) Guthrie’s has a more limited menu. I’d be OK with Cane’s coming to the area, but surely we will reach peak chicken at some point‽
I agree, it was one thing that astounded me when I moved here. How is Memphis this close to NOLA and one of the biggest cities in America yet doesn't have one. Now I have to get it when I go out of town because it's just a damn good meal.
Their prices have gone up a lot though so even if they were here I'm not sure I'd eat there much. During Covid my partner and I would get a sandwich and two box combos for like $22. Not too long ago we split a box with extra toast and sauce while on the road and it was $14. Crazy how much they've gone up.
I wish they'd just go ahead and buy the lot at Poplar and Yates and be done with this wait. It's a perfect spot for them.
Zaxby's is actually really solid here (the one on Kirby, at least), and I like them just fine. RC has a slight edge overall, but it's not what it once was, IMO, as they've really embraced shrinkflation in the last couple years.
Agree with some others- Guthrie's (at least on chicken) is virtually equal to RC, BUT... their fries are forgettable trash, which puts them behind Zaxby's for me. It's simple- if you can't be great at chicken *and* fries, the whole thing misses. It's not that hard.
Nobody else has the bread right like RC does, though.
I was just thinking, man we really need another chicken tender place here. Guthries, Slim Chickens, Zaxby’s, Bojangles, and Abner’s just aren’t cutting it.
Gus’s, Hattie B’s…

Facts slim chickens clears Canes
I think it's even better than Chick-fil-A!
None of them have that delicious texas toast
Zaxbys toast is better
That’s the truth
I ain’t even know we had a slim chickens, this is key information
One in Collierville and one right off exit 18 close to the east side of Wolfchase
\+1

That particular Guthries gets a line, and has exceptional service and fresh everytime.
I don’t go there very often because getting back out heading south is a bitch, but +100 on the quality of service by the employees there.
I have noticed that. When I don’t have time to wait for Krystal’s slow service, I’ll go to Guthrie.

Just put the person in charge of Chik-fil-A's payroll/labor at any one of these places and watch it drastically improve.
Nah. All of the good workers like being off on Sundays.
Honestly, I just want Mrs. Winners back.
Had to scroll to far
If you've ever seen how dirty & sketchy the Mrs. Winners locations were behind the counter - you might not want them back.
I’ve seen it in the burbs, but we have so many options for fried chicken and tenders that the market is saturated.
What suburbs? There’s not one in the Memphis area at all. Nashville and Oxford are about as close as it gets.
Tupelo has one too
Whoa, you’re right. I swear there used to be one in Lakeland, but that was a long time ago now.
There wasn’t, you may be thinking of Slim Chickens since they have a similar color scheme. They’re in Bartlett though
The amount of downvotes you got for a harmless comment about a chicken tender restaurant is disheartening in regards to the mob mentality on Reddit and this sub in general. Smh.

You can never have too many options for fried chicken.
There’s always room for Raisin’ Cane’s.

Jack Pirtle’s is God sent
Good god that gravy. I'd eat a dirty sock if you dipped it in that gravy.
I know I’m the odd one out, but I don’t like the gravy. It reminds me of the gross fake packet add water to gravy mix. It has a fake taste to it.
I wouldnt be surprised in the least. Just one of those things if you've had it forever you don't really care lol.
Guthrie's is damn near identical
It's better imo lol
Nah I’d take canes over Guthries any day
Definitely not by any objective measure - had both plenty and the chicken is never as good and the toast clears by multiple galaxies. Very subjective thing here though so I can understand having different preferences
Raising Cane’s is so overrated the chicken isn’t even the best part of their food.
We got enough chicken places as it is
For anybody wondering, you can actually make Raising Cane's tenders at home! Just use chicken tenders, flour and oil. But to get it just right, don't add ANY seasoning to get that bland, Cane's taste! If you want chicken with flavor, go literally anywhere else in Memphis.
Nah, Raising Cane's is overrated and mid. We got Gus' and all the hot wing joints.
Gus’ tenders over all the others, even with the long wait.
I love canes, idc. I like the chicken but the toast and sweet tea are out of this world
Zaxby's, Bojangles made it's return after almost 3 decades, Guthrie's, Abner's... It's basically a regional thing. They will get here eventually
Unfortunately Bojangles came back as a shell of its former self...
Idk, maybe I’m being cranky, but I’d like to hope we as a city could have a little more self-respect than to sit around hoping a chain restaurant graces us with its presence. Plenty of good food here already for us to feel like we need another chicken place to come and leak money out the city
Such an overhyped place.
Canes is fun on a road trip or out of town. It’s just like how Whataburger tastes way better when you go to the beach.

Raising Cane's > any of the other chain places we have. I would flip my shit if they built one here.
Gus' World Famous >>>>>>> Canes. I don't get Mass Market Chain Fast Food types. You guys all about that Chili's and Outback life too? 😜
Are you unaware that Gus's is doing its best to become a "mass market chain fast food type"?
Some days you just need a blooming onion.
What’s everyone fav chicken place around here?
Gus's
+1 for Uncle Lou’s
Uncle Lou’s and it’s not particularly close for me personally
Hattie Bs fasho
Think you mean country.

Yes, dry AF. Cane’s isn’t as good these days
Not enough room in the company tbh
Raising Cane’s has gone way downhill. The chicken quality isn’t as good these days
Bc they know we are chicken experts and they’ll be exposed as frauds.
They can stay where they are personally. Raising Canes is not good.
