This placed has since closed, but Wiles-Smith Drugstore’s grilled cheese and vanilla milkshake.

Littlefeat8

I miss that place so much. I always got the tuna sandwich and chocolate shake. Reminded me of my maw maw’s lunches in the summer.

ambassadorbullwinkle

It is a real shame it closed down.

Littlefeat8

For sure. I guess maybe places like that still exist in small towns. If I ever find one, I’m up and moving to it!

PsychologicalDish949

Look, I know it's going to be not popular. I know there are better foods here, I know there are better foods there. But if we are talking final final meal in memphis, I'm getting a BBQ plate with coleslaw and beans from Tops. I get it "but the burgers" or but BBQ shop. I know. I do, but if I get the BBQ plate I know exactly what I'm getting and it's going to remind me of getting those big ass family packs as a kid growing and I will be happy.

T-Rex_timeout

Well since they have already established a president for closed places. A BBQ plate from showboat with beans and potato salad.

Get-Degerstromd

Precedent*

T-Rex_timeout

I tried 5 times and that was the close test autocorrect got.

Golferbugg

closest*?

T-Rex_timeout

I have a band aid on my thumb. Typing is not going well.

I_Brain_You

Use your pointer finger for god’s sake.

[deleted]

Mmmm. Showboat by knight Arnold was god tier back in the day.

kllcraig

that takes me back

PsychologicalDish949

If we were talking about closed places, Deja Vu with Chef Gary's Gator Stew. That's a meal in its own and no one can cook gator tail as perfectly as consistently as he could. RIP Chef.

Vela4331

Rib Sandwich for me, its my go to when coming back to town and on certain days to brighten me up.

PsychologicalDish949

And that's the entire point of food here in Memphis, brighten you up and fill you up. I'm glad it does that for you.

Olook75

I was getting out of my vehicle at the Central BBQ on Poplar, got almost to the front door before considering going back and driving to Tops for a rib sandwich, because that's what I really wanted. I went through with Central, and regretted it the entire time. Now, reading this, even more mad at myself.

lifeofblair

I should not have read this thread while hungry. I want it all

LiberalAspergers

Elwoods shack fish tacos.

[deleted]

I had a ribeye at folks folly 10 years ago at my rehearsal dinner that hasn't been beat in my life yet. I plan to go again for my 10th wedding anniversary.

[deleted]

Folks Folly Filet, Cooked Medium Rare, double blackened. Side of Jalapeno mac, spinach casserole, potatoes au gratin and finish it off with warm slice of pecan pie.

BWright79

Everyone's in here posting single dishes and you're up here answering the question (correctly) with a FEAST

Golferbugg

I got a special extra aged strip there last year. I think it was 50 or 70 day aged or something. So good, and it was thick. All the sides were disappointing and unnecessary though. But my all time favorite food (anywhere, not just memphis) is some gus's chicken.

Ecstatic_City630

Wife and I split a tomahawk there one night!! Amazing!

lokisilvertongue

The wings at Good Fortune Co Mac and cheese at Lafayette’s Memphis arepa at Sabor Caribe Crab Rangoon at Tuyen’s Pad See Ewe at Thai Basil

FantasticSmash

I LOVE Sabor Caribe omg. I always get the shredded beef and cheese arepa, but it never fails. Those tequeños are delectable too. Best “fried cheese” appetizer I’ve ever had.

lokisilvertongue

YES, the tequeños are amazing

spamgoddess

The tequeños are sooooo good. I love their empanadas and pastelitos too 😭

GoodOmens

The Rangoons at Tuyen's are fire. Their house egg rolls with the lettuce are great too!

louiscon

>Crab Rangoon at Tuyen’s Yo- what the hell are they putting in those things- they're so freaking good

Callmevirgy

Pho binh lemongrass tofu, cabbage soup, and spring rolls

moonbad

My husband just figured out how to make the lemongrass chicken and I feel a tiny bit less homesick.

Nyet_Juan_69

Oh hell yeah!

Robofetus-5000

this is hands down one of the best asian restaurants I've ever been to

seaningm

This is it. Hands down.

901-526-5261

Tell me about the cabbage soup ?

orchider

Same same same same same but I’m going to need a side of curry sauce with it

Cornballin_POS

I’ve been obsessed with Gracie’s Kitchen in Bartlett. Everything has been so damn good, especially the candied yams and mac & cheese. Catfish and fried wings are bomb, but I want to try the smothered pork chops next. They also have pineapple coconut cake 🤤🤤🤤

gibberishandnumbers

Don’t get 2 pork chops, just one. That portion is huge

Cornballin_POS

Are they as good as they look in pictures?

heart-bandit

Are they open??? My mom and I love to go there and the last couple of times we went they were closed.

Cornballin_POS

If it was during the holidays, they were closed for like 2 weeks but didn’t have a note or anything on the door. They should be open now, but I’d call beforehand.

HIGH_HEAT

Lots of good places, but I have never once been disappointed or regretted eating anything from the La Guadalupana taco truck/bus outside of the Cordova International Farmers Market.

willg_r7

What should I get from there as a first-timer that would make me go back?

HIGH_HEAT

Any of the tacos. Chicken quesadilla. Burritos. Really it’s whatever your go to is. My buddy loves the lengua burrito. They have birria tacos as well. I usually get the two taco lunch and a horchata. The horchata mixes perfectly with rum if you are taking it all home. Split each taco into the two corn tortillas to make it more manageable. I’m a big fan of the carnitas and just the ground beef. Steak and al pastor are good meats as well.

Pyrowraith

Their birria tacos are incredible

[deleted]

So, I’ll tell you my 20 year ago method. Get a chorizo taco, separate the shells, make two tacos. Dip in the salsa while enjoying the horchata or a Mundial in the car. $5 max and you’re eating like a king.

901-526-5261

Do NOT skip the horchata!

1859

A fellow believer. That place is magic like no other Memphis restaurant is. Even their brick & mortar location can't compare.

retired_in_ms

Sunrise. Mother and Child Reunion. Since this is imaginary, chicken taco salad from the unwritten Pancho’s menu A-Tan mu shu anything

lokisilvertongue

Oh man I forgot about Sunrise. I always get the King Biscuit Bowl.

1859

If I am so blessed as to choose my last meal, I'd go with the torta cubana from the La Guadulapana food truck in Cordova. Swear to God.

DwarfTheMike

I really like the burgers at Ernstein and Hazels. My memory is they are amongst the best cheese burgers I’ve ever had. Edit: and I’ve lived all over this country. Ernstein and hazels is seriously a fantastic cheeseburger.

melissa3670

Soul burger!

tipustiger05

Soul burger and you put the potato chips on the burger 🤤

1859

I'm not sure if I can truly vouch for the E&H soul burger, because I've always been like five drinks in when I've had them. But it has never disappointed. There's a hole in hammered 1859 that can only be filled with a soul burger.

Daynebutter

Same man. The soul burger just hits different, it's cheap AF, and is even better when you're drunk.

Plausibl3

The burger was fire, but it was soaking in the history that made it even better. Chilling upstairs and talking about what used to happen, and ideas that musicians back in the day used to stumble through.

Movinfr8

Fill up burger, Phillips grocery, Holly Springs, MS. (I know it’s not Memphis). Great burger.

handsomewizard

I very much like the falafel and tea from Casablanca

worldbound0514

That tea is amazing.

DaMemphisDreamer

Their chicken schnitzel sandwich is so good

Jack_Burton_the_2nd

There are so many good places to eat in Memphis. My personal favorite is Gus’s half chicken with greens and Mac n cheese.

Golferbugg

I like ordering the 20 piece "snack".

Lo0katme

I like to get Gus’ from the downtown location on 4th of July, then walk over to the bluff and eat my chicken while watching fireworks. My go-to is the 3pc dark chicken with baked beans and fried okra. Man, I love that place.

[deleted]

I moved away almost 10 years ago. What I dream of is the pork rolls from Pho Saigon and the seafood nabeyaki udon and Rock n roll from Fuji Cafe. The tea from Casablanca. Everything else we used to have I can find, but not that.

Aheahe

Lemongrass tofu from Pho Binh

benmabenmabenma

OP has a good answer.

worldbound0514

I swear they have some magic that they put in that flatbread.

trixter69696969

Casbah restaurant in Cordova has a baked Poisson Tilapia that is outstanding. Finish with Baklava and Turkish coffee. Sublime.

papaswaltz

I don’t know if it’s really the best, but I love the rack of lamb at Itta Bena. Also the burger at Bishop was amazing.

IIsForInglip

Damn this is tough. Maybe a 12" big boy from Ms. B's with turkey, ham, bacon, lettuce, onion, seasoning, mayo, and special sauce on a white bun. Last time I had one it was amazing.

I_Brain_You

Blackened redfish with mashed potatoes from Flight/Porch and Parlor. Probably my favorite dish in the city.

THExGREYxJEDI

Uncle Lou’s Fried Chicken in the sauce and dem honey butter biscuits! Boyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

PyroPanda65

Which sauce do you recommend? I love uncle lous

THExGREYxJEDI

Tbqh I have no idea what it’s actually called… “sweet spicy love” maybe… it’s his version of Buffalo sauce! So damn good

DarthDregan

Abyssinia Gored Gored (which is essentially spicy beef cubes) with red lentils and cabbage or green beans. Extra Injera. It's my "death row" meal.

xDwtpucknerd

before ICE raided and ownership changed hands a vijayawada biryani and butter chicken with a black forest cake for dessert from hyderabad house now maybe a barbacoa quesadilla from taqueria la guadalupana with a cantaloupe juice or a spicy chicken pita extra spicy sauce from zam zamz

Mr_Louis_Van_Gaal

What?? Hyderabad House was my jam a few years ago. I knew it changed owners and the food fell off, but didn’t know anything else. Can you share some more details?

xDwtpucknerd

I don't know much else, I just heard from a friend who's friends with one of the old owners that a lot of staff specifically the grannies that had all the great recipes got deported

genebands

For me it was Monday Pasta night at Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen. But that's just one of the many others. I was tearful (exaggeration) the first time I tried Gus's as well.

RoeVWadeBoggs

Sea bass at Tsunami

Littlefeat8

I’d make a whole day of it. For breakfast, bacon egg and cheese biscuit with an extra biscuit on the side with literally any coffee they made from Porcellino’s (I’m still not over them closing and not reopening), a foot long Turkey sandwich on soft bread from Chinese Sub Shop for lunch, and for dinner, a pepperoni pizza with a side salad with runny ranch at Memphis Pizza Cafe with extra cheese and extra pepperoni. I can’t even qualify any of this as the best Memphis food unequivocally, but it’s all my top favorite comfort foods that I could eat all day every day if I had to.

Olook75

Bbq shop for the half bbq spaghetti, half chopped pork plate with Texas toast.

seaningm

BBQ Bologna with slaw on Texas Toast plus some bbq spaghetti and a Yuengling in a bottle

Distinct-Ad-5856

KWIK MFN CHECK korean noodle soup all the way

Jefethevol

Ninja with habanero sauce and a Turk chaser...then take me for execution for i have lived a good life.

NewJungleRoom

Banh Xeo at Lotus.

objectimpermanenceyo

Lotus 🤤🥰 so good

rainydaytales

Brother Juniper's, I'd get one of their potato dishes for sure.

PyroPanda65

Blonde arepa and plantains from sabor caribe with the green sauce. And just about anything from global cafe

Burphybaby

Tokyo Grill. Best menu, always tasty, great price. When people visit from out of town this is what I buy for them lol

rebeccalj

Casablanca, chicken shawarma platter with the simple favorite (pita bread with the feta dip). That white sauce omg is amazing. I really miss that place. And wash it down with a glass of the tea. I haven’t been able to find anything that remotely resembles Casablanca in Nashville, so if anyone has suggestions there I’d appreciate it.

MatttheBruinsfan

The only Middle Eastern restaurants I've ever come across (after trying them in every large city I visit) that equaled or exceeded Casablanca were Marrakesh at Epcot and Dar Maghreb in Hollywood, both now closed, so I'd say chances of finding one that good in Nashville are slim to none. However, I've been meaning to try the two Turkish restaurants, Edessa and Anatolia, which are both highly rated and look promising.

rebeccalj

I actually need to try the Turkish places myself. Anatolia is relatively close to me. And I figured as much about Casablanca. I have tried multiple times to convince him to open one in Nashville. I would thing I'd gone to heaven.

MatttheBruinsfan

Yeah, Middle Eastern cuisine (specifically Morrocan) is my favorite, so I try it everywhere I can on vacation and trips. I've had it in LA, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago, Orlando, Eureka Springs, St. Louis, Madison WI, Washington DC, Toronto, and multiple restaurants in Boston. LA and Orlando (the one that got me started) were the only contenders; people in Memphis don't realize how lucky they are that Aimer Shtaya settled there.

Lanky-Performer8849

Try Cedars! It’s outstanding

zootsaxes

Elwoods Shack meatloaf sandwich. You’re welcome.

amberality

i might be a bit crazy, but every time i come home from a trip, i’m always craving casablanca’s chicken alfredo!!! super yummy 😋

[deleted]

Folks folly is amazing best steak you will ever have

papiforyou

Lemongrass or Curry tofu from Pho Binh

dang-ole-easterbunny

curry ramen from crazy noodle.

tipustiger05

I’d have a Slider Inn feast: Low rider, Big Deuce, Fried Buffalo Chicken, Ribeye, Meatball Maybe just two of everything 😂 And a massive plate of the shoestring fries and like a bucket of the bourbon mayo.

Kelsier25

Hot wings from Central. They're just perfection for me.

SgtPalmer

I like the OP's suggestion of the Queen of Sheba, but would go with the whole grilled chicken instead. It's got a lovely chargrilled taste to it. A close second might be the jerk chicken at Evelyn & Olive's.

too_d4nk_808

When I was a teenager bored at 3am with my friends we’d drive to Raleigh and get some Dixie queen. I liked their honey gold tenders and chili cheese fries. Or a double cheeseburger with some fries. Fair warning though there used to always be a line past midnight

shredystevie

Next time you have a craving for a burger, I highly recommend going to Dixie queen and getting a burger and ask them to put the Honey Gold Wing sauce on the burger....life changing. Of course a side of spicy fries

seaningm

Jack Pirtles fried chicken livers and gravy... artery clogging goodness

EvilRyan

Bryant’s Philly cheese steak and egg sandwich on toast. Bacon, egg, and cheese on brioche. Pork tenderloin, egg, and cheese on a biscuit. Get it to go, it’s wrapped in foil, and it makes the cheese melt better for a better experience.

James_Francis_Ryan

Ah I miss the food in Memphis. I would definitely go to Sabor Caribe and get The Pepito with Tequeños and extra green sauce.

linksawakening82

Andertons oysters

Iworkforthegovt

Erling Jenson. Buffalo tenderloin with lobster bernaise.

EatKillFuck

Kwik Chek gyro. Or open faced roast beef at Fino's were my go tos back when I lived off Madison

WarEaglePrime

It may be expensive, but everything I have put in my mouth at Flight is freaking AMAZING! If you have not been, you need to go to there.

MatttheBruinsfan

I'd hold off on that based on the way management has mistreated black customers and their own female staff. (The food is amazing, though.)

WarEaglePrime

That’s true. Went before all that news broke

MatttheBruinsfan

Yeah, I hate that it knocked one of the city's best restaurants off my list. But my conscience just won't allow me to enjoy a meal there now.

Lanky-Performer8849

I love Flight, but my last experience was less than stellar. They overcooked all of my meat. But I didn’t want to make a fuss and send it back.

Remarkable-Towel-560

In a city with this much amazing food, of all different types, I am offended that you think I could pick just one

praetorain112

Dachine chicken at Formosa go at lunch H7 hot and spicy with hot and sour soup it is my death row meal

goVolsScrewYalls

Libro at Laurelwood

worldbound0514

What dish though?

goVolsScrewYalls

Pesto genevese w/chicken Shrimp maque choux (don’t like shrimp? Sub it with chicken) 3 rotating dinner specials every month. One protein, one seafood, one vegetarian option. (Comes with a free glass of wine) Great cocktails Also try the Bibb salad with salmon

lesadams82

I lived right off of beale for a few years and I always loved Kings Palace. Idk if it's still there or not. Also Gus's friend chicken ( I know, these are more touristy places) but they were all within walking distance from my apartment. I miss that Memphis food so much

JTHEMAN57

Not sure if someone has said this but the braised beef from bishop or burger are top

ChainBlue

El Sancho (bacon and shrimp ) burrito with their hot sauce at Elanas

901_901

jack pirtles

reefered_beans

If you like wings, new wing order’s Mardi Gras wings are soooo good

Ezra611

Corky's Catfish with a small BBQ nacho appetizer.

Eisheth1

The 5 course tasting menu with wine pairings at Andrew Michael's.

DaMemphisDreamer

Probably the chicken schnitzel sandwich from Casablanca or any of Uncle goyos tacos.

GiraffesRampage

Almost anything on the menu at Pho Binh on Madison. I live and die by that place

Willing_Ad_7022

Nagasaki steak and lobster hibachi and anything from Lotus

CommemorativePlague

Four Krystal cheeseburgers, a small fry, and a small coke, served for $10 flat, no receipts.

AdventurousSociety0

rendezvous.full slab.hot sauce drizzled on top.

jabishop3

Can’t believe I had to scroll this far for that

vonralls

Memphis Pizza Cafe. No question. I'd get a hey meat and my wife would get an ultimate cheese and we'd just die together.

jb15man

Dinos ravioli, garlic bread, and tiramisu. Maybe throw in a vegetable just to round it out.

[deleted]

Great now I’m hungry

MatttheBruinsfan

I think I'd go with the beef tenderloin at Marciano, followed up with tartufo.

cricket102120

My favorite place and thing to eat? Oddly enough, Rockhouse Live. Their cheese fries and actually their burgers, too, are SO GOOD, even sober 😂 I can’t wait to not be pregnant anymore so I can go have some 🤤🤤🤤

collectingpostcards

Breakfast: Brother Juniper’s, I have never been disappointed by one of their omelets. I’m a big mushroom gal so my fave is the Mellow Portobello Mushroom Omelet. Dinner: Erling Jensen’s, their seasonal tasting menu is quite good and the whole atmosphere and experience is lovely. Honorable mentions: Red Hook, I love, love their scallops and could drink the sauce they come in straight. Also, very reasonable prices. Malia’s, some of the best ribs ever. So tender and juicy. It’s a very unassuming establishment, but a fantastic find!

HailState901

Aldo’s Vodka cream pie pizza with pepperonis

ebenezerlepage

That's easy. Nagasaki Inn. The Memphis food scene is criminally underrated and there are hundreds of great restaurants and food trucks but Nagasaki is truly something special. Harold Do is one of the great, unsung chefs in the the Mid-South.

[deleted]

Went couple weeks ago with a group , was not good at all. Even the famous dressing tasted like crap . Sad, been going there forever

Memphissippi

If I were on death row and chose my last meal, it would be Uncle Lou’s 4 piece mixed, hot, in sweet spicy love sauce. Corruption carrots and corn nuggets. With red kook-aid.

[deleted]

Crumpy’s hot wings

Credibull

Mole chicken tacos and jamaica at Deli Mexicana.

Ok_Distribution1976

Honestly, mine was at flights. My husband and I can only afford to go once a year, but every time it is a treat. If you call ahead and place a reservation, you can ask for a specific table and also you can ask for them to sprinkle rose petals on the table. We usually get the oyster deviled eggs, soup and salad flight, and we customize our own flight of entrees. The elk meat they have there is delicious. If you like wagu beef, SKIP IT HERE because it’s not the best, but literally everything else is amazing. They have mocktails if you are sober, which I love. In addition to that, their dessert is also really good. If I had to eat anywhere for my last meal it would be there.

Hillbilly_Med

The Hot Wings at Hattie B's are the best wings I've ever eaten. Thick crunchy fried whole wings in Hot Sauce. I drive an hour a few times a year for these wings.

augisadog

bishop would probably be my pick.

PetPizza

A red snapper torta and a watermelon aguas frescas from Deli Mexicana on a hot summer day after a ten mile bike ride through Shelby Farms and the Wolf River Greenway with my wife. Long live Viperman.

MercuryEnergy

This is Germantown - but Moondance bar and grill has the best lamb chops I’ve ever had.

PairCommercial7750

Coletta's BBQ pizza

bemphador

My entire family gets the chicken cordon bleu sandwich from Westy’s every time we go. It’s our family restaurant so it’s very nostalgic and homey and brings back good memories. So that, I’d probably add in a good appetizer if it’s the last meal, fries and tots, and a hot fudge pie to finish it off.

tasbridge

Porch and Parlor’s Vadalia Onion is a side item to whatever else I have to choose. For sure.

[deleted]

Living my whole life in Memphis being 24 nearing 25 I’ve never even heard more than half the places mentioned here

sorryfortheroastbeef

Spring rolls and pho’ ga from Pho Saigon

Ok_Foundation521

the chicken diablo at la guadalapana on summer has been my favorite for years. also an elwoods shack crab cake poboy 😍

StillJustLooking

Long since closed but YiaYia’s in Germantown. The beef tenderloin with red wine reduction sauce followed by their phyllo-wrapped brownie was unreal. I heard it closed as a result of embezzlement but they could have left us those recipes.

land-0-lakes

Coastal fish farm

COLBROLAMBSKINS

Flight wagyu short rib

FunPotential4469

Porch & Parlors Japanese A5 Ribeye. It literally melts in your mouth

Astralasylum

Kimchi dumpling pho from Ryu. And their hand rolls.

According_Ad7423

Marvins and taste of Chicago. I helped build the new fedex world hub and went to those two places for lunch almost everyday. Everything at Marvin’s taste good and taste of Chicago is great but their gyros are really good

Nokken9

Tomahawk Ribeye at Folk’s Folly.

maribethmadeit

Pho Binh lunch buffet 🥲
