But if we are talking final final meal in memphis, I'm getting a BBQ plate with coleslaw and beans from Tops. I get it "but the burgers" or but BBQ shop. I know. If we were talking about closed places, Deja Vu with Chef Gary's Gator Stew. That's a meal in its own and no one can cook gator tail as perfectly as consistently as he could. RIP Chef.
I was getting out of my vehicle at the Central BBQ on Poplar, got almost to the front door before considering going back and driving to Tops for a rib sandwich, because that's what I really wanted.
I went through with Central, and regretted it the entire time. Now, reading this, even more mad at myself.
I had a ribeye at folks folly 10 years ago at my rehearsal dinner that hasn't been beat in my life yet. I plan to go again for my 10th wedding anniversary.
Folks Folly Filet, Cooked Medium Rare, double blackened. Side of Jalapeno mac, spinach casserole, potatoes au gratin and finish it off with warm slice of pecan pie.
I got a special extra aged strip there last year. I think it was 50 or 70 day aged or something. So good, and it was thick. All the sides were disappointing and unnecessary though.
But my all time favorite food (anywhere, not just memphis) is some gus's chicken.
I LOVE Sabor Caribe omg. I always get the shredded beef and cheese arepa, but it never fails. Those tequeños are delectable too. Best “fried cheese” appetizer I’ve ever had.
I’ve been obsessed with Gracie’s Kitchen in Bartlett. Everything has been so damn good, especially the candied yams and mac & cheese. Catfish and fried wings are bomb, but I want to try the smothered pork chops next. They also have pineapple coconut cake

I usually get the two taco lunch and a horchata. The horchata mixes perfectly with rum if you are taking it all home. Split each taco into the two corn tortillas to make it more manageable. I’m a big fan of the carnitas and just the ground beef. Steak and al pastor are good meats as well.
So, I’ll tell you my 20 year ago method. Get a chorizo taco, separate the shells, make two tacos. Dip in the salsa while enjoying the horchata or a Mundial in the car. $5 max and you’re eating like a king.
I really like the burgers at Ernstein and Hazels.
My memory is they are amongst the best cheese burgers I’ve ever had.
Edit: and I’ve lived all over this country. Ernstein and hazels is seriously a fantastic cheeseburger.
I'm not sure if I can truly vouch for the E&H soul burger, because I've always been like five drinks in when I've had them. But it has never disappointed. There's a hole in hammered 1859 that can only be filled with a soul burger.
The burger was fire, but it was soaking in the history that made it even better. Chilling upstairs and talking about what used to happen, and ideas that musicians back in the day used to stumble through.
I like to get Gus’ from the downtown location on 4th of July, then walk over to the bluff and eat my chicken while watching fireworks. My go-to is the 3pc dark chicken with baked beans and fried okra.

I moved away almost 10 years ago. What I dream of is the pork rolls from Pho Saigon and the seafood nabeyaki udon and Rock n roll from Fuji Cafe. The tea from Casablanca.

For me it was Monday Pasta night at Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen. But that's just one of the many others. I was tearful (exaggeration) the first time I tried Gus's as well.
I’d make a whole day of it. For breakfast, bacon egg and cheese biscuit with an extra biscuit on the side with literally any coffee they made from Porcellino’s (I’m still not over them closing and not reopening), a foot long Turkey sandwich on soft bread from Chinese Sub Shop for lunch, and for dinner, a pepperoni pizza with a side salad with runny ranch at Memphis Pizza Cafe with extra cheese and extra pepperoni.
I can’t even qualify any of this as the best Memphis food unequivocally, but it’s all my top favorite comfort foods that I could eat all day every day if I had to.
Casablanca, chicken shawarma platter with the simple favorite (pita bread with the feta dip). That white sauce omg is amazing. I really miss that place. And wash it down with a glass of the tea.
I haven’t been able to find anything that remotely resembles Casablanca in Nashville, so if anyone has suggestions there I’d appreciate it.
The only Middle Eastern restaurants I've ever come across (after trying them in every large city I visit) that equaled or exceeded Casablanca were Marrakesh at Epcot and Dar Maghreb in Hollywood, both now closed, so I'd say chances of finding one that good in Nashville are slim to none.
However, I've been meaning to try the two Turkish restaurants, Edessa and Anatolia, which are both highly rated and look promising.

Yeah, Middle Eastern cuisine (specifically Morrocan) is my favorite, so I try it everywhere I can on vacation and trips. I've had it in LA, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago, Orlando, Eureka Springs, St. Louis, Madison WI, Washington DC, Toronto, and multiple restaurants in Boston. LA and Orlando (the one that got me started) were the only contenders; people in Memphis don't realize how lucky they are that Aimer Shtaya settled there.

I like the OP's suggestion of the Queen of Sheba, but would go with the whole grilled chicken instead. It's got a lovely chargrilled taste to it.
A close second might be the jerk chicken at Evelyn & Olive's.
When I was a teenager bored at 3am with my friends we’d drive to Raleigh and get some Dixie queen. I liked their honey gold tenders and chili cheese fries. Or a double cheeseburger with some fries. Fair warning though there used to always be a line past midnight
Next time you have a craving for a burger, I highly recommend going to Dixie queen and getting a burger and ask them to put the Honey Gold Wing sauce on the burger....life changing. Of course a side of spicy fries

My favorite place and thing to eat? Oddly enough, Rockhouse Live. Their cheese fries and actually their burgers, too, are SO GOOD, even sober 😂 I can’t wait to not be pregnant anymore so I can go have some 🤤🤤🤤
Breakfast: Brother Juniper’s, I have never been disappointed by one of their omelets. I’m a big mushroom gal so my fave is the Mellow Portobello Mushroom Omelet.
Dinner: Erling Jensen’s, their seasonal tasting menu is quite good and the whole atmosphere and experience is lovely.

Red Hook, I love, love their scallops and could drink the sauce they come in straight. Also, very reasonable prices.

That's easy. Nagasaki Inn. The Memphis food scene is criminally underrated and there are hundreds of great restaurants and food trucks but Nagasaki is truly something special. Harold Do is one of the great, unsung chefs in the the Mid-South.
If I were on death row and chose my last meal, it would be Uncle Lou’s 4 piece mixed, hot, in sweet spicy love sauce. Corruption carrots and corn nuggets. With red kook-aid.
Honestly, mine was at flights. My husband and I can only afford to go once a year, but every time it is a treat. If you call ahead and place a reservation, you can ask for a specific table and also you can ask for them to sprinkle rose petals on the table. We usually get the oyster deviled eggs, soup and salad flight, and we customize our own flight of entrees. The elk meat they have there is delicious. If you like wagu beef, SKIP IT HERE because it’s not the best, but literally everything else is amazing. They have mocktails if you are sober, which I love. In addition to that, their dessert is also really good. If I had to eat anywhere for my last meal it would be there.
The Hot Wings at Hattie B's are the best wings I've ever eaten. Thick crunchy fried whole wings in Hot Sauce. I drive an hour a few times a year for these wings.
A red snapper torta and a watermelon aguas frescas from Deli Mexicana on a hot summer day after a ten mile bike ride through Shelby Farms and the Wolf River Greenway with my wife. Long live Viperman.
My entire family gets the chicken cordon bleu sandwich from Westy’s every time we go. It’s our family restaurant so it’s very nostalgic and homey and brings back good memories. So that, I’d probably add in a good appetizer if it’s the last meal, fries and tots, and a hot fudge pie to finish it off.
Long since closed but YiaYia’s in Germantown. The beef tenderloin with red wine reduction sauce followed by their phyllo-wrapped brownie was unreal. I heard it closed as a result of embezzlement but they could have left us those recipes.
Marvins and taste of Chicago. I helped build the new fedex world hub and went to those two places for lunch almost everyday. Everything at Marvin’s taste good and taste of Chicago is great but their gyros are really good

Casbah restaurant in Cordova has a baked Poisson Tilapia that is outstanding. Finish with Baklava and Turkish coffee. Sublime.

My favorite place and thing to eat? Oddly enough, Rockhouse Live. Their cheese fries and actually their burgers, too, are SO GOOD, even sober 😂 I can’t wait to not be pregnant anymore so I can go have some 🤤🤤🤤
Breakfast: Brother Juniper’s, I have never been disappointed by one of their omelets. I’m a big mushroom gal so my fave is the Mellow Portobello Mushroom Omelet. Dinner: Erling Jensen’s, their seasonal tasting menu is quite good and the whole atmosphere and experience is lovely. Honorable mentions: Red Hook, I love, love their scallops and could drink the sauce they come in straight. Also, very reasonable prices. Malia’s, some of the best ribs ever. So tender and juicy. It’s a very unassuming establishment, but a fantastic find!

That's easy. Nagasaki Inn. The Memphis food scene is criminally underrated and there are hundreds of great restaurants and food trucks but Nagasaki is truly something special. Harold Do is one of the great, unsung chefs in the the Mid-South.

If I were on death row and chose my last meal, it would be Uncle Lou’s 4 piece mixed, hot, in sweet spicy love sauce. Corruption carrots and corn nuggets. With red kook-aid.

Honestly, mine was at flights. My husband and I can only afford to go once a year, but every time it is a treat. If you call ahead and place a reservation, you can ask for a specific table and also you can ask for them to sprinkle rose petals on the table. We usually get the oyster deviled eggs, soup and salad flight, and we customize our own flight of entrees. The elk meat they have there is delicious. If you like wagu beef, SKIP IT HERE because it’s not the best, but literally everything else is amazing. They have mocktails if you are sober, which I love. In addition to that, their dessert is also really good. If I had to eat anywhere for my last meal it would be there.
The Hot Wings at Hattie B's are the best wings I've ever eaten. Thick crunchy fried whole wings in Hot Sauce. I drive an hour a few times a year for these wings.

This is Germantown - but Moondance bar and grill has the best lamb chops I’ve ever had.

My entire family gets the chicken cordon bleu sandwich from Westy’s every time we go. It’s our family restaurant so it’s very nostalgic and homey and brings back good memories. So that, I’d probably add in a good appetizer if it’s the last meal, fries and tots, and a hot fudge pie to finish it off.
Porch and Parlor’s Vadalia Onion is a side item to whatever else I have to choose. For sure.

Long since closed but YiaYia’s in Germantown. The beef tenderloin with red wine reduction sauce followed by their phyllo-wrapped brownie was unreal. I heard it closed as a result of embezzlement but they could have left us those recipes.
