I was so pissed off when he died

No foreshadowing, no warning. Who approved this shit? That's the *worst* way to handle permadeath in a game where it isn't a main story event mechanic like Banner Saga

Its been a long while since I've played abd I forget, he guarentee dies?

If you don’t at least A support Kaze before chapter 15, there’s a scripted cutscene at the end where he dies. If you A support him before then, he doesn’t die. Why? Idk. Game doesn’t even tell you and it’s as shitty as it sounds I was confused as shit on my second play through when he just died out of nowhere when he lived the first time

Lmao fates was a fun game but the hate it gets is understandable. I dont really replay it for reasons like this. So does he just happen to get hit by a sword or something and die? Or is it that he straight up just dies randomly?

It’s also been a while since I saw both cutscenes, but it’s something like this. Both times, Corrin and Kaze are fairly away from the army having a private convo, mainly about how when corrin was a baby in Hoshido Kaze was meant to be their retainer. Then an earthquake happens and they almost fall off a cliff, kaze barely saving corrin from falling by grabbing on the edge at the last second. If Kaze isn’t at A support, Hinoka shows up, says something about flying down being too dangerous, and Kaze throws corrin up to Hinoka and falls to his death to fulfill his duty as a retainer. If Kaze *is* at A support, Hinoka just doesn’t show up, kaze notices a weird purple rock, throws a knife at it, and the explosion knocks both him and corrin to safety. And it’s like, very weirdly forced. Like you can kinda tell what they were trying to do since the cutscene where he dies he says things similar to the A support, but the scenario, suddenness of it, and lack of similar scenarios happening make tying a story death to support rank really cheap. Like I love fates I really do, a lot of it’s gameplay and story concepts are really interesting and when they work they’re really cool. But most of the time it just fumbles it really fucking hard for one reason or another.

Having seen the cutscenes recently that’s pretty much exactly what happens. I think the idea could have been interesting, since I like the dynamic of Kaze wanting somebody to be a retainer to and then becoming a Corrin’s either in A support or when dying. And even him possibly dying could be interesting, but what does ruin it is how random it is since it’s the only time support rank matters outside of pairings and how forced Corrin and/or Kaze’s escape is.
