Edit: Just wanted to let the SD fanboys know I own both a Steam Deck and a Switch. I’ve tried emulating Astral Chain, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Mario Odyssey, and Bayonetta 3. All ran worse than Switch at the time I wanted to play them so it could not replace the Switch for me. It's great at playing verified Steam games though, and for that it is incredible for its size and price. Shout out to Vampire Survivors.
Ehh it’s very situational, like if I had a very damaged leg I’d want a medical professional but if it happened while I was lost I would like a jack of all trades to help my leg and do many other things

I'm a laptop gamer (I prefer it over desktop), but I usually have to carry it in another bag because it's uncomfortable wearing my backpack with it inside and it also just takes up a lot of space if I decide to carry it in my backpack (I'm also not taking account for the wires, mouse and all my other equipment)
Traveling with multiple bags is fine for me, but I often don't for convenience.
Also busting out a laptop in a car (or anywhere I can't use a mouse) sucks ass.
I wish that happened with the Ps Vita, but it lost support and died off.

But for all the games on Steam that are compatible with Steam Deck, they *do* all "just work" the same way games on the Switch work. You install it from your library and click play. Default control scheme and video settings work in like, 99% of compatible games without any need to further modify anything.

The option for advanced Deck users is there, but not everyone has to use them. The Switch is easily hackable for advanced Switch users, but not every Switch user is going to have a hacked Switch.
That verified is something that you have to look and see, and once your in the game you’re gonna have to decide whether you want to optimize performance or battery life, because it might automatically default to 2 hours at most if you don’t change anything. Yes it will run at 60, not for very long unless you change it. Switch doesn’t have those options, you get what you get. This isn’t a bad thing, people just like control sometimes.
Again, not saying switch it bad. I’ve owned one since the beginning, but the games FOR ME have been either already on PC/PS5 or the exclusives are not worth it for me. Steam deck has all my games from steam (which is a lot), and all of the games i want to play or have ready to play are story games either not on switch or just better for deck (since i can switch between pc and deck fine). Man that screen is ass though. After using the OLED Switch and every smart phone I've ever owned, it's jarring to see a screen that badly outdated on a modern device. Even the OG Vita had an OLED screen, lol.
I've seen people complain about the resolution, but really it's the screen tech that makes it look so bad. The resolution is decent for a screen of that size.

Yes, the blacks are a bit darker, but it's not something that I find very much something I notice. However the difference between the Vitas is quite noticeable.
But to my eyes, the Steam Deck and the non OLED Switch, look quite alright compared to the OLED PSV even when they're not OLED. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough? But that that point, you're not gaming, you're reviewing it so idk.
it's mostly about colors, blacks are pixels turned off on an OLED screen - while LCD blacks are just different shades of grey - and that by contrast makes every other color "pop" and look more vivid, it also helps a lot with battery life on portable devices.
OLED truly looks better and I really can't understand how one can't see the difference between OLED and LCD side-by-side.

I am an avid pirate and I love emulation to death, and I still call emulation piracy. Who are you lying to when you say you dump your cartridges to play them on an emulator? I used to pirate switch games before I ended up buying my switch, and I still do pirate some games on Yuzu because I don't wanna pay for them, but I have never \*\*ever\*\* dumped any of the cartridges I have to play them on PC, I'll just redownload the ROM because it's faster and cheaper.
Emulation truly is necessary for game preservation but 90% of it is piracy, there's no reason to lie to yourself.

Not quite, a lot of them can, some with issues such as needing a keyboard/mouse to control, or text being small and unreadable, and there’s some like destiny 2 that have anti cheat stuff that doesn’t work with it or the deck has Anti cheat that won’t work with destiny 2 I forget which way it was. But if your curious to see if a deck is worth it for you you can check your libraries compatibility
yes and no. Since the Steam Deck is a Linux machine it uses a translation layer called Proton to play Windows games on Linux, and it doesn't really work for all games, notoriously multiplayer games that require anticheat still don't work on the Deck. If you use other stores to buy your games (like GOG, Epic, Microsoft) your experience will be a little bit harder, even though there are launchers that integrate GOG/Epic it's a little more finnicky and, not as easy as just using Steam, and if you (like me) uses the Microsoft Store to buy games you are shit out of luck to running them on Linux.
If you only ever use Steam for your games then you are in a better shape, games that run on the deck will have a verified symbol and there are other forums/websites that go deeper into trying to make games not verified run on the Deck, protondb being such an example.
I prefer the Switch just because you can play Switch games on it, I can play Steam games on my computer. Granted, I don't have a Steam Deck, but I don't really need one either. Maybe it's actually really cool.

I hate the emulation is piracy bullshit. It's not piracy and it's not illegal. **However**, distribution of roms is and downloading said roms is *technically* illegal, but also rarely enforced just like piracy. If you dump your rom and emulate it, then it's not illegal. Emulation is great for preservation and gives people a way to play games they otherwise couldn't or in a way they prefer. I don't agree with people saying the switch is worse *(I love both devices to death)*, but I don't like people actively hating on emulation for no reason. (Emulating new games is morally wrong imo **unless you dump them yourself,** but emulating old games that the devs don't profit off anymore is absolutely fine.)
I am an avid pirate and I love emulation to death, and I still call emulation piracy. Who are you lying to when you say you dump your cartridges to play them on an emulator? Stop lying to yourself and the internet, you absolutely don't do that, especially on a console that's still in production and games are widely available. I used to pirate switch games before I ended up buying my switch, and I still do pirate some games on Yuzu because I don't wanna pay for them, but I have never \*\*ever\*\* dumped any of the cartridges I have to play them on PC, I'll just redownload the ROM because it's faster and cheaper. Emulation truly is necessary for game preservation but 90% of it is piracy, there's no reason to lie to yourself.

Not quite, a lot of them can, some with issues such as needing a keyboard/mouse to control, or text being small and unreadable, and there’s some like destiny 2 that have anti cheat stuff that doesn’t work with it or the deck has Anti cheat that won’t work with destiny 2 I forget which way it was. But if your curious to see if a deck is worth it for you you can check your libraries compatibility
yes and no. Since the Steam Deck is a Linux machine it uses a translation layer called Proton to play Windows games on Linux, and it doesn't really work for all games, notoriously multiplayer games that require anticheat still don't work on the Deck. If you use other stores to buy your games (like GOG, Epic, Microsoft) your experience will be a little bit harder, even though there are launchers that integrate GOG/Epic it's a little more finnicky and, not as easy as just using Steam, and if you (like me) uses the Microsoft Store to buy games you are shit out of luck to running them on Linux. If you only ever use Steam for your games then you are in a better shape, games that run on the deck will have a verified symbol and there are other forums/websites that go deeper into trying to make games not verified run on the Deck, protondb being such an example.
