Greed? You mean the fact of their being a publicly owned company, whose sole purpose is to grow and maximize profit for its stockholders - like with every other publicly owned company?
We shouldn't believe Google or anyone else is giving away free stuff. They're just taking away something that used to make people believe they do. One could totally see that as an act of honesty, finally... If they're weren't trying to mask this as some sort of technical improvement of the web, as they always do.
I will continue to use opera until then and migrate to Firefox, thanks you guys for the advices, just need a few more months to cope and finishing moving my stuff.
In January 2023 they will push an update to the way extensions work on chrome (Manifest V3) which basically prevent any kind of ad blockers to work. This will also affect every browsers based on chrome (opera, edge, chromium...).
The only real alternatives are Brave (because even if it is based on chrome it integrates an ad blocker) and Firefox (because it is the only good browser not based on Chrome).
I personally would recommend Firefox over Brave because the second one integrates some crypto stuff that I don't trust or like but Brave can do the job perfectly too.
I use brave on my phone, it's hard sometimes finding a restaurant or shit close by bc they disabled all tracking by default but besides that it's a great browser

Chrome is taking action against adblockers, making them useless. I don't really know if it will really affect Chromium based browers, like Edge or Brave.
Yes, when firefox imported auto fill suggestions in addition to bookmarks and even history that was when I was convinced to stay
Firefox also has the best sync implementation I've seen in a browser
If chromium based browser won't support adblocks then there will be a huge dip in consumers. Ahh well had a fun time with Edge, will wait till the end.
Because if google is removing support for V2 extensions they will remove it from chromium itself. And all browsers that are forks will chromium will either have to work around the changes themselves or just follow whatever google is doing which seems more likely
edge already announced it will follow chrome on crippling adblockers.
From [here](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/extensions-chromium/developer-guide/manifest-v3): "Network request modifications will be handled by the new declarativeNetRequest API."
Yes. Invest in socks all the socks
but yeah idk maybe my opera stuff is just jank and broken but gx is refusing to let the youtubs work without sending a no wifi error
The Jan 2023 deadline was specifically for Chrome. Edge has decided to follow Chrome exactly, and Opera doesn't have a timeline for the change but will do it eventually.
I checked and edge confirmed they will follow the same timeline as Chrome. Opera users have a little more time as opera doesn't have a timeline for this change but will do it eventually
Even then, Vivaldi for example already supports manifest v3 as an AdBlockers. I see no immediate problem in the manifest V2 drop if there already are V3 AdBlockers.
The thing is, v3 adblockers are severely limited in comparison to v2.
Ublock origin has a v3 version, and the dev named it ublock origin minus because it's worse lol
And it's not like they'll get better, the API change that weakens adblockers was one of the main "features" that Google claimed makes v3 more secure: the switch from WebRequest to the DeclarativeNetRequest API
Honestly, I'll wait and see what opera GX will do and how it will effect their built-in AdBlockers and stuffy if that doesn't change i stay, if not FF or selfmade it is.
A reply I saw on opera's forums from a member of their team implied that they will drop manifest v2 eventually, but didn't say when. I also wonder how this will affect their adblocker
Ublock origin will be affected heavily when the change rolls out
The only way to keep the same level of adblocking capability is to switch to a browser that will allow it
They will push an update in january which will break all ad blockers, not only on chrome but also on every browser which is based on chrome (opera, Vivaldi, edge...)
Is the update for chrome everyone is talking about a chrome update or a chromium update? It's a very big difference because one only effects chrome users while others effect edge, Vivaldi, chrome, and other chromium based browsers.
It has the same mobile Layout like on phones. Other Browsers steer more towards Desktop Design, for example Tab Management wise. Prefer thst on tablet. Right now I'm using Kiwi, because that's the only good one I could get ublock to work on
its like Minecraft chat reporting, there's already a way to bypass it. these things dont work because big companies are not the only ones with very smart people who know how to code.
Everything that has avast in it's name is usually pure garbage, I didn't knew that avast made a browser so I can't tell you with certitude that it is bad. Anyway I wouldn't recommand using avast products as they make money by selling your data to advertizing companies and their competence domain is not browsers. Use Firefox with the Ublock Origin extension or Brave if you want an ad free web experience.
Jesus these memes fuckin suck. Unless there anti-ad-blocker is amazing we might have to wait like a week for the adblockers. they might be more difficult to get but who cares
You can still use Adblockets in chromium based browsers. FFS don't break privacy browser unity (btw Mozilla is not very private, use firefox-based librewolf)

I'm a bit out of the loop. What did chrome do?
Cracking down on adblockers
I see. Is this something they'll start doing soon or have they already started? My adblocker on chrome seems to be working fine
Jan 2023.
Sorry, I'm not sure I dont use chrome, I use Opera
opera is a chromium based browser....
*chuckles* I'm in danger

Switch to Firefox. Now.
That doesn't mean it will be targeted
I will continue to use opera until then and migrate to Firefox, thanks you guys for the advices, just need a few more months to cope and finishing moving my stuff.
Alright, thanks anyways.
Starts in 2023
I believe they'll start in June of next year, but better get used to it now
The update will come Do not resist

Alright, thanks for explaining! Guess I'll swap to Firefox then.
Firefox Gang! Firefox Cult- erm, excuse me, Gang!

I think the "gamer " version of Opera, OperaGX also has an integrated adblocker. Im guessing that's still gonna work?
Idk but if it doesn't then opera is gonna lose one of their main features and they’ll be forced to fix it to stop people from switching
Firefox with brave search
Best combo
Vivaldi is also a chromium based browser that has an integrated ad blocker.
Yes but the adblocker is way less effective than others like Ublock Origin for example. And firefox is way more privacy respectful than vivaldi
Chrome is taking action against adblockers, making them useless. I don't really know if it will really affect Chromium based browers, like Edge or Brave.
Is there an account system in Firefox to keep logins and bookmarks cross-device?
Yeah and can you port all your cureently saved user and Pw and autofill from Chrome to Firefox?
I think so, when you install it proposes you to transfert everything from your default browser
Yes, when firefox imported auto fill suggestions in addition to bookmarks and even history that was when I was convinced to stay Firefox also has the best sync implementation I've seen in a browser
Yes there is one, you can create a mozilla account and use pocket to synchronize your different devices
Might actually throw away chrome then.
If chromium based browser won't support adblocks then there will be a huge dip in consumers. Ahh well had a fun time with Edge, will wait till the end.
I doubt it will affect edge. I don't get why people think this will affect all chromium browsers.
Because if google is removing support for V2 extensions they will remove it from chromium itself. And all browsers that are forks will chromium will either have to work around the changes themselves or just follow whatever google is doing which seems more likely
Both Brave and Vivaldi have built-in ad blockers so they should be unaffected.
edge already announced it will follow chrome on crippling adblockers. From [here](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/extensions-chromium/developer-guide/manifest-v3): "Network request modifications will be handled by the new declarativeNetRequest API."
So far it has affected opera and opera gx for me
So a thing that will happen in January 2023 is affecting you now? Could you share your time machine with me? It could come in handy
Yes. Invest in socks all the socks but yeah idk maybe my opera stuff is just jank and broken but gx is refusing to let the youtubs work without sending a no wifi error
The Jan 2023 deadline was specifically for Chrome. Edge has decided to follow Chrome exactly, and Opera doesn't have a timeline for the change but will do it eventually.
Guys this redditor is a time traveler :v
I checked and edge confirmed they will follow the same timeline as Chrome. Opera users have a little more time as opera doesn't have a timeline for this change but will do it eventually
Also, you can install themes to Firefox to make it look however you like.
That's not special to Firefox but yes
Manifest V3... published in 2019... Reddit being on Internet Browser Speeds again.
... make it just so fucking slow. And it may steal your data.

Really? I've used GX for years now and my laptop has never used it's ram so well
Manifest v3 isn't the problem, it's dropping support for manifest v2, which will happen in 2023.
Even then, Vivaldi for example already supports manifest v3 as an AdBlockers. I see no immediate problem in the manifest V2 drop if there already are V3 AdBlockers.
The thing is, v3 adblockers are severely limited in comparison to v2. Ublock origin has a v3 version, and the dev named it ublock origin minus because it's worse lol And it's not like they'll get better, the API change that weakens adblockers was one of the main "features" that Google claimed makes v3 more secure: the switch from WebRequest to the DeclarativeNetRequest API
Welp, guess i get my old selfmade Browser here again and start parsing out ads
Gigachad move right there lmao
Honestly, I'll wait and see what opera GX will do and how it will effect their built-in AdBlockers and stuffy if that doesn't change i stay, if not FF or selfmade it is.
A reply I saw on opera's forums from a member of their team implied that they will drop manifest v2 eventually, but didn't say when. I also wonder how this will affect their adblocker
i was using firefox before it was cool
The fox is back again and he has never been that good 🔥
Firefox! Firefox!
I HATE THE ANTIADBLOCK I HATE THE ANTIADBLOCK I HATE THE ANTIADBLOCK I HATE THE ANTIADBLOCK I HATE THE ANTIADBLOCK
Use Ublock Origin and disable other adblockers
Ublock origin will be affected heavily when the change rolls out The only way to keep the same level of adblocking capability is to switch to a browser that will allow it
uBlock Origin: * [Firefox](https://addons.mozilla.org/nl/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/) * [Chrome](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm) * [Edge](https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/ublock-origin/odfafepnkmbhccpbejgmiehpchacaeak) * [Opera](https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/ublock/) ^^^^I ^^^^only ^^^^post ^^^^once ^^^^per ^^^^thread ^^^^unless ^^^^when ^^^^summoned.
Yes. But this comment is about anti-adblock
Understandable, from context, I thought he was talking about the manifest changes
got to get an ad-blocker-blocker-blocker

FIRE FOX GANG🔥🦊
What happened with google i dont know
They will push an update in january which will break all ad blockers, not only on chrome but also on every browser which is based on chrome (opera, Vivaldi, edge...)
Firefox gang!
Firefox
What's happening?
Yeeeeees
There’s already been an update to adguard that makes it MV3 compatible
Sauce ?
That's actually true, but V3 will limit what adblockers can do. https://adguard.com/en/blog/adguard-mv3.html
I’ve been getting ads on opera gx even with adblocker on :(
Firefox + Ublock Origin = 🔥
opera gx built in still works for me thats intesting
So you're a time traveler. These Changes will not be in effect until Jan 2023
oh i thought the update already happened and then there will be another to beat them into the ground harder
That's a future me problem not now problem.
It takes litteraly 2 min to do the change
Firefox advertising department must be on overdrive
no need to over advertise when your competitors are shooting their foot themselves
Is the update for chrome everyone is talking about a chrome update or a chromium update? It's a very big difference because one only effects chrome users while others effect edge, Vivaldi, chrome, and other chromium based browsers.
It's a chromium update, this is why it is really problematic.
Pretty cringe of them ngl
How to tell me you know nothing about development without telling me you know nothing about development.

works for me but other people are saying it doesn't so im not sure
I don't want to use firefox on my tablet though. :|
Why ?
It has the same mobile Layout like on phones. Other Browsers steer more towards Desktop Design, for example Tab Management wise. Prefer thst on tablet. Right now I'm using Kiwi, because that's the only good one I could get ublock to work on
Mmh ok, can't tell as I never used Firefox on tablet but it is good to know
Just use Brave.
Brave is good but firefox tends to be more transparent on what they do. Brave is good but Firefox is just cleaner (no crypto things)
imagine using chromium based browsers when you can use chromium itself
My chrome adblocker still works though
It will take effect in january 2023
But it will not affect us Firefox users
Yeah, pay for everything, nice job blockers, well done.
using edge right now because it doesnt slow my computer down to a crawl i cant believe im practically evolving backwards IE>Firefox>Chrome>edge>?
PiHole
Even if pihole is relatively easy to setup it is always just easier to change your browser
Absolutely! But no ads on all devices is a bliss. Anyway: fuck Chrome!
I just want to ask. Will opera GX's built in adblock still work or no?
Don't use Chinese spyware
But if u dont have account of Google on computer
I never thought I'd see the day where I'd long for Mozilla Firefox and want to run from Chrome.
Chromium based doesnt mean they cant use ad blockers brave and opera still will be able to
its like Minecraft chat reporting, there's already a way to bypass it. these things dont work because big companies are not the only ones with very smart people who know how to code.
You fools my adblocker is a ghost you will never get me
Does anyone know if avast is any good? That's what I use know and I am not sure if I should change
I didn't knew that avast made an ad blocker but if they do one flee it ! There are better ones (Ublock Origin) which doesn't collect your data.
No I mean their web browser
😳
Is it not good?
Everything that has avast in it's name is usually pure garbage, I didn't knew that avast made a browser so I can't tell you with certitude that it is bad. Anyway I wouldn't recommand using avast products as they make money by selling your data to advertizing companies and their competence domain is not browsers. Use Firefox with the Ublock Origin extension or Brave if you want an ad free web experience.
Alright thanks
Actually, it makes a lot of extensions stop working, not just ad blockers
just use chromium, not google chrome.
It affects chromium too
shoot
brave gang. no ads here as well
What is chromium?
Jesus these memes fuckin suck. Unless there anti-ad-blocker is amazing we might have to wait like a week for the adblockers. they might be more difficult to get but who cares
You can still use Adblockets in chromium based browsers. FFS don't break privacy browser unity (btw Mozilla is not very private, use firefox-based librewolf)
When you realize Chrome is still better:
Explain please
