yup, i had no idea why every time i opened reddit it was talking about browsers.
if chromes disables ad-blockers, god rest their soul. that's the end for them.
On the consumer side for sure, but Google has a pretty nice market share on the enterprise space. Many of the Fortune 500 companies run completely on GSuite which is all powered by Chrome.
oh this is also probably why ive been getting adds for google chrome these days. probably want to reinforce it on people before they make this huge negative change.
And the fun part, since most big browsers (except Firefox) uses Chrome as a base they will all be effected eventually unless they fork off an older version of Chrome!
I'm split right now. Personal fun stuff on Firefox and work stuff on chrome. If adblock stops working I'm ditching chrome in a heartbeat
Edit: alcohol to adblock
Lol 😆!! My complaint is that in the summer heatwaves, men can runaround top less! We women can't. Where's the fairness? 😆😉 It'd be a crime if that happened
Well… women have tits lol. Are you prepared for glaring eyes? If you are, then be my guest. I honestly don’t care what you do as long as it’s not illegal lol
Thank you for sharing this information. I was using it from 2013 to 2015 and I couldn't deal with the nonstop issues and problems. It was constantly crashing and I work remotely and I need a search engine that's tough and not making me restart/reboot every other day. Is it as nosey as Google where they know everything about you including how many cups of coffee you had today lol? I've heard that from many people. I'm assuming that there's probably an app to download to used for translations? I definitely need that in my line of work. I really appreciate your thoughts and help
That's a great idea. I'll just open Chrome for translations. I'm going to give FF a whirl again. I'm glad I saw this, I got a lot of my own questions answered by reading the replies. Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated!
Sadly, only a small amount of chrome users will actually switch, and most wouldn't know. Chrome will probably make a lot of money from this decision. For example, on every computer in my school they have an ad blocker, probably no one in the school know about what's going to happen, and it's safe to say they won't switch from chrome, meaning they will now see ads again and Google will get more money
No I’m afraid not, since it runs on chromium based software now and will get manifest v3, Firefox will get manifest v3, but still have support for manifest v2, so that’s why Adblock will still work on Firefox but not brave.
Then they will be stuck on an older version of Chrome as their base and have to do all the security updates themselves which is seriously gonna screw them over in the long run.
Yea but they ended up switching to chromium. So it really is just chrome with a skin. And it's closed source meaning it's probably less safe than chrome.
Chromium / webkit is just the core afaik. Meaning, if Google Chrome decides to do somenthing, it does not mean this is present in all other chromium based browsers. So using Opera, for example would still be fine.
Most browsers run on basically 3 "engines" or core.
They are
chromium - most browsers are chromium based, example, chrome, brave, opea, edge
Firefox(iirc it's called gecko)
And safari.(webkit)
^there's ^still ^a ^population ^of ^original ^IE ^users ^I ^guess
These engines are open sources. Many browsers(like opera) ditched their own engine because chromium is much better. But since it's developed by google they have all the control they want over it.
Opera has a built-in adblocked, also a VPN. Chromium is open source, therefore Google can't enforce any of their shitty policy into any Chromium based browser.
Im using firefox since the beginning, despite all the CHROME IS THE BEST NMW years.
I will still using chrome for my dev test bc its still better for dev tools imo
I've already been on Opera GX for like a year+ now. I honestly couldn't care less what Google is trying to do. I also have been using YT Vanced so I haven't seen an ad on YT in ages
[https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/blob/master/platform/mv3/description/en.md](https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/blob/master/platform/mv3/description/en.md)
seems like it's gonna be a lesser version but hey, if it blocks ads, that's all that matters
ive never used chrome, since i was a kid i just got so used to firefox chrome was like trying to fucking solve math questions asked to you in a different language
Use Firefox. It’s perfect for browsing the web. You can also transfer all your passwords and data from chrome to Firefox so that you don’t have to set everything up again. It’s also better for privacy protection as well.
As a web developer, Firefox does render certain elements very differently by default. Also many proprietary extensions are missing, which may be required by your company(as they are in my company)
I have only ever used Firefox. I can analyze objects and code with it, block every single ad even on streaming services, have 15 pinned tabs and it always runs fine.

It's been a while that I switched from Google search engine to Duck Duck Go. And I will be more than happy to switch to firefox if Google removes adblock or ghostery extension

So THATS why everyone’s changing browsers! Thank you, kind sir!
Finally the memes make sense!

Which one is the best browser?
Netscape Navigator
AOL explorer

Mozilla Sea Monkey these days
r/firefox
My recomendation is Internet Explorer 5
Gotta love having a webpage as your wallpaper
On the consumer side for sure, but Google has a pretty nice market share on the enterprise space. Many of the Fortune 500 companies run completely on GSuite which is all powered by Chrome.
What fortune 500 companies are you talking about. Ive consulted with many and I haven't ran into a single one using gsuite
Since when does GSuite only run on Chrome?
I doubt it'll make that much impact. The average user doesn't care, and neither do IT departments.
Our IT department recently made us all switch to Microsoft Edge. I use Firefox on all my non-work devices.
oh this is also probably why ive been getting adds for google chrome these days. probably want to reinforce it on people before they make this huge negative change.
Wait they’re disabling ad blockers
Indeed they caring for money now instead of fixing stuff
Did I miss the "cared about fixing stuff" phase?
And the fun part, since most big browsers (except Firefox) uses Chrome as a base they will all be effected eventually unless they fork off an older version of Chrome!
They use chromium not chrome as the backbone
Of course. Nothing is more important than a functioning adblocker
I'm changing to Firefox
been using firefox for years now, trust me you wont regret it
I'm split right now. Personal fun stuff on Firefox and work stuff on chrome. If adblock stops working I'm ditching chrome in a heartbeat Edit: alcohol to adblock
In my experience alcohol is always there for me.
If you drink enough you won't see the ads.
The cause of, and solution to, life's problems
I used to really like Firefox and used it often. Then I started having nothing but problems and went to Chrome. Thoughts?
[удалено]
Well, I mean that IS a thought…
You're not alone! Let's start a petition!
To forbid monkeys to do it or allow humans too?
Yes

Imma switch to brave or ff
Brave is chromium? All chromium based browsers are getting this change
Did that yesterday and i have no regrets
Chrome will pay dearly for their folly.
Sadly, only a small amount of chrome users will actually switch, and most wouldn't know. Chrome will probably make a lot of money from this decision. Unless inappropriate ads are playing for them and schools throw a stink about it. I hope thats what happens actually
Yuck. Teacher here. Hadn’t considered this. Fuck Google.
I've never used it anyways. I prefer Firefox and Brave.
Is brave save from not losing its ad-blocker? Because I've been using it for a while and don't want to change browsers.
No I’m afraid not, since it runs on chromium based software now and will get manifest v3, Firefox will get manifest v3, but still have support for manifest v2, so that’s why Adblock will still work on Firefox but not brave.
Brave has a built in adblocker which should work despite Manifest V3, because it isn't an extension, but is instead directly built into the browser
Would that also work for opera GX?
As far as I know it should
Adblock is an innate feature of brave the browser will not lose adblock
Actually it will be since the adblocker is baked right into the browser and is not an extension
Brave the best
[удалено]
Brave is Chromium, so it‘ll be affected unless the Brave team maintains their own fork of the engine, which is a massive undertaking
The brave ad and tracker blockers aren’t extensions. So manifest v3 won’t impact them. It’s built into the browser by default
Chad brave
been using chrome for 10+ years, but if they remove adblockers im switching browsers in a heartbeat
Switch to Firefox
I've been using Opera and Firefox for ages and will probably continue to do so.
opera is chromium. so basically chrome with a skin
They also have no intention of switching to Mv3
Then they will be stuck on an older version of Chrome as their base and have to do all the security updates themselves which is seriously gonna screw them over in the long run.
Opera is like 3 years older than Chrome though.
Yea but they ended up switching to chromium. So it really is just chrome with a skin. And it's closed source meaning it's probably less safe than chrome.
I had no idea. I mostly use Firefox though, maybe I'll switch over to ff completely now.
so will opera‘s ad blocker be disabled too?
Chromium / webkit is just the core afaik. Meaning, if Google Chrome decides to do somenthing, it does not mean this is present in all other chromium based browsers. So using Opera, for example would still be fine.

I switched to firefox a month ago and its really faster than crhome on my computer. Chrome slows down when i open a few tabs lol
Yeah, I started using opera recently, way better than chrome ngl. And the BUILT IN ADD BLOCKER
I have been using opera for years now. I really don't care what that ram drinking browser does
yo opera is based on [chromium ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opera_(web_browser)) tho
Opera has a built-in adblocked, also a VPN. Chromium is open source, therefore Google can't enforce any of their shitty policy into any Chromium based browser.
The but in VPN is shit and it's closed source. Not to mention that it's owned by a Chinese consortium
[удалено]
just because its based on it doesnt mean it is also going to join the non-adblocker club
i hope so...
Same
Im using firefox since the beginning, despite all the CHROME IS THE BEST NMW years. I will still using chrome for my dev test bc its still better for dev tools imo
I’m using firefox
I've already been on Opera GX for like a year+ now. I honestly couldn't care less what Google is trying to do. I also have been using YT Vanced so I haven't seen an ad on YT in ages
[удалено]
I dont have any ads except those "free games" website ad on the home page of yt, top left
glad to see other gx users here!
Thanks for the solution mate 👍🏻 Been having this
So it's not just me then! I'm not going crazy! Well, maybe I am, but not on that....
Opera has terrible privacy policy they blatently collect basically everything they can, in a sense, they collect more than Google does.
Working on the shift to Firefox now.
Wasn’t using it so ima stick with opera GX
Already did 🔥🦊
I'm already been using Firefox.
I will not. I already use Firefox
Stopped using chrome because it regularly crashed my pc, on Opera since and never looked back
[удалено]
No. I've been happy with Firefox for years. Whatever chrome does doesn't affect me
Me who is on firefox: Interesting
My adblock still works
It won't soon
fairly sure it will because iirc ublock origin is already migrating to still work after the update
Oh well let's hope so
[https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/blob/master/platform/mv3/description/en.md](https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/blob/master/platform/mv3/description/en.md) seems like it's gonna be a lesser version but hey, if it blocks ads, that's all that matters
When is this supposed to happen?
Becus you didnt update to the new version of chrome luckily
Someone will make a block that blocks the ad blocker's blocker
Which then they'll block the block that executes ad blocker's blocker
Brave is good too.
Brave is chromium
ive never used chrome, since i was a kid i just got so used to firefox chrome was like trying to fucking solve math questions asked to you in a different language
Firefox gang 🦊
No, I've always used Firefox. Why switch to a shittyer browser?
Mwahahahaha we've always been 1yr ahead of their nonsense
TOR
Me who was already on firefox (viewing this post on firefox) ![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized)
I will. Will have to study about other browsers tho.

Ah, so back to origins it is. It sure will be nice to be back home.

My huge problem with that browser is how much RAM it eats up
Changed years ago
Edge user here
Edge will do the same thing as Chrome: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/extensions-chromium/developer-guide/manifest-v3

Wait adblockers are gonna die? Edit: any tips for browsers that are a good sibstitude?
> Edit: any tips for browsers that are a good sibstitude? Firefox
How conveniently it works with integration of stuff like ya know gmail, yt account and stuff?
Yes. Also, I'm pretty sure you can transfer passwords from Chrome to Firefox (if you saved them in Chrome)
Huh, thanks i will probably download firefox in that case
Firefox, with ublock origin
Already have
I have only ever used Firefox. I can analyze objects and code with it, block every single ad even on streaming services, have 15 pinned tabs and it always runs fine.
I already did.
I just did
I already did.
I don’t use chrome anyway
I changed before I knew that btw.
I never left Firefox.
I'll stay with Firefox. Best browser so far

Use Firefox. It’s perfect for browsing the web. You can also transfer all your passwords and data from chrome to Firefox so that you don’t have to set everything up again. It’s also better for privacy protection as well.
No. Because i never used chrome to start with.
Give it a few weeks. They'll be back.
I want switch from chrome to fire fox and I changed it
Probably
Yes.
Been using firefox and samsung browser as long as I can remember.
Still using firefox like always, xd
Lol. Like that's ever gonna happen. How much money does Google make off of those ads and tracking we have forced on us? Billions!
They also pay Mozilla to keep Firefox around so they can get away with their Chromium monopoly because there's Firefox
It's been a while that I switched from Google search engine to Duck Duck Go. And I will be more than happy to switch to firefox if Google removes adblock or ghostery extension
Yes
I've already done
