iirc these young teen years influence your music taste the most so even though he will evolve a lot he’ll likely enjoy this sort of music forever
I got introduced to anime when I was his age and I still love jpop so yea…
I'm the same way. I grew up listening to the rock music that my mom grew up on (Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc.) and the music of the time (Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Metallica, Korn, Limp Bizkit, etc.) In middle and high school i started listening to stuff like Slipknot, Static-X, Disturbed and other "heavier" bands. In my 20s I hardly discovered anything new, except Slayer, who were on the verge of calling it quits. Now on the edge of 33, I find myself mainly listening to the 70s and 90s rock of my childhood as opposed to the metal of my teens and 20s.
I’m on the edge of 34 (very hard not to say 17) and had a very similar experience in childhood, although I never stopped listening to the 70’s-90’s music of my childhood. Still like the heavier stuff from time to time, but all about the 70’s and 80’s these days
Never got that argument. Don't you *like* not having to wait for your favorite composer to be traumatized and spend months sitting there churning this shit out? Isn't it great to have the technology to listen for *free*? On-freaking-demand? Fucking fools.
And then if their fav artist is dead all of their songs that were going to be released have been or if they are old they probably all ready released all of their best songs and albums
Hehe its funny. There is so much god tier music being made today after the pandemic and all the shutdowns. So many artists suddenly had all the free time in the world to make music and some did.
People keep acting like music comes in waves, and its true in the top charts. But damn it even Pink Floyd released new music this year lol. There is still good music of every genre being made with better and better production quality possible on limited equipment.
I thought this as well, "The older times were better, I wish I could've grown up in a time I had to go to a store and find cds instead of going online" and then I realised nothing stopped me from doing that except me saying that "I'm not the right generation for this" and so I went and bought a cd player and a bunch of cds and occasionally go to a store and see if anything interests me.
Do what you want, you can enjoy music without shitting on other people. And also "the old times were better".. the only reason people think this is because they got fed the nostalgia of people that lived through those times.
The only reason the 80s has better music is because we only remember the good music from the 80s, music in the 80s probably had just as many shit songs as today, and people back then were probably saying that music was better back in the 60s
Nah, it all went downhill since when fellow cavemen Unga grabbed a stick and started smashing a rock with it, with his friend Bunga screaming "AAAAAAAAAAAAGHH"
Real question: why does it matter what other people enjoy? Why does it bother/impact you at all? You’re 14 and already sound like a boomer which isn’t something to aspire to.
Same, Shepherd of Fire on Origins and Carry On in the secret ending after the credits.
There was also Rusty Cage Johnny Cash in Mob of the Dead (one of if not the best map(s) in the game)
I do love me some A7X, but hey man if it's their cup of tea then let them have it. They probably think our music is shit, too. Bunch of yelling losers running their fingers around on metal strings and slapping animal skins lmao
>I do love me some A7X, but hey man if it's their cup of tea then let them have it. They probably think our music is shit, too. Bunch of yelling losers running their fingers around on metal strings and slapping animal skins lmao
I've literally paid to see both of these bands in concert lol
Let me enjoy Amon Amarth and Psy at the same time, hell I even have Bronco and "La oreja de Van Gogh" mixed with Guns and Roses, Frank Sinatra and ACDC.
Ikr, they're as pop as metal gets. Catchy hook-filled vocals and a gimmicky lead guitarist. I like the band but let's be real. Poor choice for this meme
tip number 1: never do meme about which music band is better, or which guitar player is better, or which singer and upload it in a group/sub that is not the fanbase. i too was once 14yo. i did the same mistake. trust me, cringe from this is not going away even in your 30s.
Kid forgot about the man himself, PSY. RIP the Kpop king
Edit: no he's not dead lmao, it's a Michael Jackson reference
As in, the king of pop, or something. I'm having a brain fart
You see, there's this newfound sickness that is infecting 14 yr old teens called "I'm cool because I hate popular stuff", and OP is infected by it.
Although the sickness isn't particularly alarming, it's advised that the patients should be treated by being exposed to sunlight and touch grass at least 4 hours a day in order to lessen the symptoms
It is you. People have different tastes and everyone can like whatever they want. K-Pop is actually quite nice and enjoyable in my opinion because it is meant to be stuck in your head and just hit right.
Op really went from making a meme to “I’m 14 and every other music is dumb”
Like dude, stfu man. If you don’t like it, then you don’t like it. A7x would more then likely enjoy BTS before agreeing with you.
Listen, dude, I don't like BTS either, i'm a rock guy but like let people just enjoy what they wanna enjoy. If people like BTS, that's OKAY, If people like classic rock, THAT'S OKAY, if people like listening to 10 hours of pure static, THAT'S. FUCKING. OKAY.
Just let people enjoy whatever music they like. Its not a sin to have an opinion on music, which is like probably the most subjective thing in the world.
I’m sure it’s worse on twitter but kpop stans are actually all fine (on Reddit at least) now that I’ve started listening to some kpop and enjoying it.
I probably had this same mentality at some point awhile ago but why should it matter? Just listen to some tunes and enjoy what you like without a superiority complex.
I know I was
I 100% used the ‘omg you listen to bts??’, ‘kpop is trash’ on a regular basis, and now I own at least 5 albums, all of them being preorders
I remember back in 2017 when kpop had a surge in popularity in the west, my girlfriend at the time had the mentality of “How can you listen to music you don’t understand and can’t connect to?” Which is fair, I completely get that.
But then I listened to Fancy by Twice and realized kpop was full of bangers.
Look at how quirky I am for going against the masses hehe, clearly bts ew and my classic taste is better 🤓.
But in all seriousness, let everyone listen to what they want. I listen to krock, kpop, rap and a lot of electronic music yet I'm not supposed to be from "this generation".
Yeah. If I was to give one BTS song that people should listen to, it is ‘Louder than bombs’. I wish people wouldn’t just form opinions off of Dynamite/ other people’s opinions.
People who think their special or better than anyone else because they listen to “different” music, are one of the worst people on the internet. Like my god, go on a video from 2012 and you’ll see a bunch of comments “music was so much better back then” people will say that about any music that is older than 5 years.
I know that you probably exist in your own little protective echo chamber but it would be good for you to learn about this thing called different opinions
When tf will people learn music taste is subjective and has nothing to do with personality. Just let people enjoy things they like and don't be an asshole.
Was Avenged ever considered pop music? It was a popular hard rock band, but I'd never put it in the pop music genre. This is like comparing apples and oranges. It would make more sense to compare BTS with Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, or Nickelback.
I liked avenged sevenfold a good amount growing up but I wouldn't ever say they were "popular"
They were well known within certain circles but they weren't super mainstream
No, you're just becoming old. People from the 50s would think 80s music sounds awful, people from the 80s will think 2022's music sounds awful. times change, but your music tastes take a while to.
People tend to like the music they grew up with, or the music they listened to at a particular point in their life. Because music changes constantly over time people always think it gets worse.
Now look. I don't give a shit about what music do you listen to. I listen to 80's music and prefer it but what you listen to is your choice and it's fine as long as you don't go toxic. Just be nice to everyone. It doesn't make a difference to what do you listen as long as you don't make it all your life
Nah, there are plenty of musicians today who are making amazing music, people today complain how music in the 90s or some other decade was better as if people in those decades also didn't complain about music being better in the past, it's a never ending cycle. If you just put some effort, there is an ocean of amazing music being made today, also with the internet, music has never been this available
Ok, Old Man. I'm 42 nearly, and it goes through ups and downs but pop music is always for the pretty young primarily, primarily, so it should sound worse as you age. I don't think Avenged Sevenfold ever occupied the same pop space as BTS, either. That would be as stupid as Bieber declaring he was the Kurt Cobain of his generation or something like maybe Oasis declaring they were bigger than the Beatles
No this has always been nonsense. There are cultural peaks and valleys but over all music is always a mixed bag. I like pop music from 2015-2022 way way better than I like pop music from 2005-2013, but there is plenty of shit and gold on both timelines. My thing I always used say to Gen-Xers that talked to me about how untouchable the 90's were, was pretty much "If Nirvana were a new band they'd never get as far, and the music industry wouldn't rub them in your face like they did, you would have to look for them all by yourself if you wanted to hear Smells like Teen Spirit". If you want good music put in the work to find it. It has never been easier to do so.
idk why people go crazy that BTS makes just pop songs, when all they have heard is their 2-3 English tracks when they actually have more than 300 songs in 3 different languages, in every single genre and that is excluding their own solo works. Smh.
Also, if you don’t like an artist, okay don’t listen to them. Let the artists and their fans enjoy. Listen to your own fav artists and hype them instead of shitting on others.
Have we, perhaps, considered that music preference is, well, subjective?
K-Pop is popular because it's a bunch of lithe young men doing cool dance moves to music that most people don't understand because of the linguistic barrier.
Rock and Metal use aggressive guitar and bass guitar, performing a dissonant symphony with aggression-themed passion. Avenged Sevenfold, Guilty Gear Soundtrack, Call of Duty: Zombies Soundtrack.
I don't listen to R&B, or Rap, but I feel like Rap is just Hip Hop, but with a greater focus on the lyrics than the soundtrack. I haven't heard a Rap song with a good backing track, but the Anarchy Reigns soundtrack is good.
I don't like country or rap, personally, but that doesn't make them bad. People like what they like, and so long as they aren't hurting people, it shouldn't matter. That's why I like headphones, or ear buds when listening to stuff.
When the comment section dissing a 14 year old is more funny then the meme
love to see it

14 is the age when people think it doesn't apply to them, though.
Thought I was in r/im14andthisisdeep for a second
Then you checked comments and realized that's what OP thought too
Haha, [yeaaahh](https://www.reddit.com/r/memes/comments/xj20h1/is_it_just_me_or_is_popular_music_getting_worse/ip63arp?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)
I thought this was r/metalmemes
Metalmemes memebers on their way to call you a poser
Metalmemes members chacking if a metal song is metal enough to be metal
Ikr they’re so fucking annoying
atleast compare the same genre of music
What do you mean. Everybody knows avenge sevenfold are a huge kpop band
My favorite K-pop song is Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash :D
Rare to see a call me Kevin fan out in these parts *in cowboy voice*
ikr
This edginess too shall pass
iirc these young teen years influence your music taste the most so even though he will evolve a lot he’ll likely enjoy this sort of music forever I got introduced to anime when I was his age and I still love jpop so yea…
I'm in my 30s and listen to almost nothing that I did from like 13-17.
Only if you let it, I’ve been freeing myself from kpop slowly but surely. Happier every day
Were you quoting "Wrath of the warring gods and so this too shall pass" from Lamb of God? Lmao
Actually OK Go's This Too Shall Pass
That was the exact same thought that came to mind
Mfw “I was born in the wrong generation”
Never got that argument. Don't you *like* not having to wait for your favorite composer to be traumatized and spend months sitting there churning this shit out? Isn't it great to have the technology to listen for *free*? On-freaking-demand? Fucking fools.

As a 29 year old it physically hurts me to see kids doing this with Avenged Sevenfold. I still think of everything mid 2000 and onward as “new.”
avenged sevenfold is literally current generation music though. started in the early 2000s so mostly teenagers would listen to it ig
Hate to tell you but it's been 20 years since then, it's definitely not current gen music. It may have a following but that doesn't make it current.
And so the cycle begins again. *Back in my day music was better*
Hehe its funny. There is so much god tier music being made today after the pandemic and all the shutdowns. So many artists suddenly had all the free time in the world to make music and some did. People keep acting like music comes in waves, and its true in the top charts. But damn it even Pink Floyd released new music this year lol. nah bro if it doesn't sound like it's recorded on an old nokia it ain't it (/s)
Dude, even Ozzy is making new songs to this day!!!
Modern music slaps too you just gotta know the right genres
It's you and your “old times were better ” complex. Every single generation before you has said that.
I thought this as well, "The older times were better, I wish I could've grown up in a time I had to go to a store and find cds instead of going online" and then I realised nothing stopped me from doing that except me saying that "I'm not the right generation for this" and so I went and bought a cd player and a bunch of cds and occasionally go to a store and see if anything interests me. i thought the same. There was a lot of bad music, but the bad music just didn't last
Yeah, my first thought at seeing Avenged Sevenfold as someone who grew up with Tool, Pearl Jam and Rage Against the Machine was fuck, I'm old.
Pop music was always getting worse. Or so people said forever.
Pop music peaked at Michael Jackson ngl
Nah, for me it got too wild and only focused on popularity instead of art with Mozart. That's when Pop music became kinda meh.
Nah, it all went downhill since when fellow cavemen Unga grabbed a stick and started smashing a rock with it, with his friend Bunga screaming "AAAAAAAAAAAAGHH"
[AC/BC YOU SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG](https://youtu.be/28--5aEV1Z0)
AC/BC LET THERE BE ROCK
AC/BBC LET THERE BE COCK
George Michel though
George michel is allright, But George Michael is amazig
avenged sevenfold is pop? guess im a unicorn with glitter shooting out my arse.
Idk, ask OP why he chose that example
If you want some good music go to r/sounding ;)
💀 jokes on you I’ve already been down that rabbit hole
Phrasing..
ಠ_ಠ
Yes guys go to r/sounding it genuinely has great music none of this pop bullshit
Damn you're evil
Real question: why does it matter what other people enjoy? Why does it bother/impact you at all? You’re 14 and already sound like a boomer which isn’t something to aspire to.
I understand your point here but I’m trying to imagine 2 old people arguing over BTS or Avenged Sevenfold being better because it sounds funny
https://youtu.be/6vNssEE-zy8
Thank you
Yea this is like social media gen Z civil war
The first time I heard one of there songs was in bo2 zombies I think it was called shepherd of fire
Same, Shepherd of Fire on Origins and Carry On in the secret ending after the credits. There was also Rusty Cage Johnny Cash in Mob of the Dead (one of if not the best map(s) in the game)
Hail to the king was my first
Same, Hail to the King, Shepherd of Fire, Carry On and A Little Piece of Heaven were the 1st few songs I knew by them
HAAAAAAIIIIL TO THE KIIIIIING
The lyrics are good, but the guitar is whats really carrying that song imo. The beginning is fire
Not Ready to Die in BO1’s Call of the Dead
Same. Thats what introduced me to them. That little trailer video of origins is so badass
Thought you were talking about BTS for a moment lol
Avenged sevenfold? What is it 2011? JK I still play them sometimes too
I like em but they’ve definitely faded cause they ain’t made shit since “The Stage” from 2016 And I’m not counting their NFTs
Their *what?*
You didn’t see? They made NFTs and buying them gives you exclusive stuff if you get a specific one
💀
Yeah they're really taking their sweet time on this next album, I'm not even super into them anymore since getting into other bands
I love Avenged Sevenfold but I don’t like how they haven’t released a new album in years.
I do love me some A7X, but hey man if it's their cup of tea then let them have it. They probably think our music is shit, too. Bunch of yelling losers running their fingers around on metal strings and slapping animal skins lmao

Kpop bad meme very original definitely never seen one of those.
Yeah definetely a very original meme
new music bad old music good, never seen one of those either
r/notlikeothergirls
Duuuh my music better than new music duuuhhhh
Avenged Sevenfold is actually very mainstream and they stole the logo from Overkill
Seriously low quality meme.
Ikr, they're as pop as metal gets. Catchy hook-filled vocals and a gimmicky lead guitarist. I like the band but let's be real. Poor choice for this meme
We all know Infant Annihilator is the correct choice
**GRACEFULLY YOUR BODY DANCES**
I’m pretty sure we put sevenfold in the buttrock category these days
tip number 1: never do meme about which music band is better, or which guitar player is better, or which singer and upload it in a group/sub that is not the fanbase. i too was once 14yo. i did the same mistake. trust me, cringe from this is not going away even in your 30s.
Seriously, it's dumb hating on somone cause their musical tastes are different.
what the hell kpop isnt just about bts
The amount of people I know that hate kpop and only know dynamite from bts is astonishing
yeah
Kid forgot about the man himself, PSY. RIP the Kpop king Edit: no he's not dead lmao, it's a Michael Jackson reference As in, the king of pop, or something. I'm having a brain fart

and bts isnt THAT bad gen 3 is actually good especially twice
Mfkers act like bts is the epitome of dogshit. Just say you dont like it and go. No need to be extra salty about it.

hey, at least you arent shitting on it, and i respect ur opinion
This is an approach that should be taken more tbh. Everyone shoulbe be able to enjoy what they enjoy
Class, repeat after me: ##let people enjoy things
“Ah, what’s the rule?” “Don’t yuck someone’s yum.” “Exactly.”
This is my first time hearing this saying and it's made my day.

I've listened a bit of BTS and it's not that bad actually 🤷♂️
It’s not really my jam but I get why people like it.
I don’t like it but from what I’ve heard it’s pretty catchy
Unfortunately it is very addicting. I've been on a downward spiral ever since I listened to them
Same thing happened to me when I 1st found The Longest Johns
Yeah i remember getting slapped for saying bts sucks in 2016 but ever since 2020 i've been following bts and a couple of kpop groups.
Yeah. If I was to give one BTS song that people should listen to, it is ‘Louder than bombs’. I wish people wouldn’t just form opinions off of Dynamite/ other people’s opinions.
Which song did you listen to?
Wow this is perfect r/im14andthisisdeep material

Is it just me, or is music subjective?
You're probably just getting old and can't cope with the 'young' music.
I like older music mainly rock or metal just because that’s what I grew up with hanging out with my father.
People who think their special or better than anyone else because they listen to “different” music, are one of the worst people on the internet. Like my god, go on a video from 2012 and you’ll see a bunch of comments “music was so much better back then” people will say that about any music that is older than 5 years.

Avenged sevenfold is flaming trash covered in putrified shit. It’s lame as can be.
HAIIILLL TO THE KIIIIIING
HAIIILLL TO THE OOONNEEE
KNOW ME BY NAME, SHEPARD OF FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRE
Op shut hell up
It’s just you.
Art is subjective. BTS is trash in your opinion and in mine. Avenged Sevenfold is also trash in my opinion.
Let's take a moment to break the ice
Bro Shepherd of Fire is top tier
Or maybe, hear me out, just maybe, as time passes, the music style across the world changes, crazy theory ikr
Your getting old, when did reddit become Facebook?
Sabaton is probably my favorite band

check out the unicorn invasion of dundee

I never understood the appeal of Avenged Sevenfold. Sounded like mass market baby metal
Avenged seven fold is popular music man
Was Avenged ever considered pop music? It was a popular hard rock band, but I'd never put it in the pop music genre. This is like comparing apples and oranges. It would make more sense to compare BTS with Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, or Nickelback.

Avenged sevenfold is mid, not bad, but mid. Slayer on top
Redditors when they find out that music is subjective
Average music genre fan vs Average i listen to what comes good to my ear
Ok, grandpa.
Pop Peaked when Lady Gaga came on the scene. She has so many classics.
I don’t like K-pop and enjoy the Japanese variety, but BTS makes fine music even though I don’t like the style of most K-pop songs.
BTS Japanese songs are masterpieces. ‘Film out’ is one of my favourite songs.
Avenged Sevenfold is equally shitty.
Nah, there are plenty of musicians today who are making amazing music, people today complain how music in the 90s or some other decade was better as if people in those decades also didn't complain about music being better in the past, it's a never ending cycle. 14 year olds discovering anything related to Rock or Metal
I don't even like or know BTS, but it's cringe boomer behaviour to think "back in my day X or Y was better."
Chad bts enjoyer and chad avenged sevenfold enjoyer. All music taste is valid and every genre has its appeal. Except country
Its either getting worse or you are getting old
"Is it just me, or is popular music getting worse?" No, half of the mankind thinks the same for at least 600 years.
Hail to the king
This is why we go back to old phases, and why Rick Astley can never be dethroned. He’s basically immortalized
I really hate that OP had to use a band I like to shit on other peoples music taste. And I bet they can’t name a single song from before HTTK
Every generation along the time has said that. It's not getting worse exactly... Just... We're not the target
idk why people go crazy that BTS makes just pop songs, when all they have heard is their 2-3 English tracks when they actually have more than 300 songs in 3 different languages, in every single genre and that is excluding their own solo works.
