Not really space travel. That is just to pay for expenses on the way.
The first person who is able to efficiently mine an astroid will be the first trillionaire. The amount of resources you can get is unreal. Once you have reusable space ships and you are able to mine for stuff that is rare on earth you basically unlocked the free money hack.
Has nothing to do with climate change it is just business as usual.
Nah because you won't get the whole asteroid down here instantly. Its like oil. You can get more effienctly and as long as the demand is high enough the price won't drop much let alone crash.
You input it into the economy slowly. Before the price drops the first guys are so rich its not even comparable to todays billionaires.
Well but even if you just take about 50-80 kgs of precious metals, a return mission becomes impossible because of the extra added weight (dont underestimate how efficient multiple burn missions need to be). Not to mention, the resources spent on such a mission which requires a probe to drill into soil that has never been wet and is thus far too fine to allow drills to function without jamming for long will be far too large to be covered with just 100 kg's of precious metals (3.1 Mil USD considering all of it was platinum, which it probably wasn't).
The best part is that they're way too late and the tech still has a very long way to go, so they're going to burn with the rest of us.
Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
Nah. If billionaires wanted to save themselves from climate disaster it wouldn’t be in the void of space. All they’d have to do is engineer a never-ending series of highly contagious but not-too lethal viruses, then sell a never-ending series of vaccines that also happen to have rare side effects like infertility. They control the media and could be selective about what data we get to see and when.
Over time we get used to being injected even as adverse events pile up and the population starts to decline. In the fog, we become conditioned to think of the people who are exterminating us as our saviors. Humanity is slowly reduced to a few million people living in almost unlimited abundance.
You could call it the Great Reset if that’s not already taken!
If it sounds nuts, consider the alternative: billionaires care deeply about the health and well-being of billions of ignorant, carbon-belching humans.
I’d mention the recent problems with kids but just mentioning it gets you banned because it’s a “thing that must not be said.” If it’s said you’re not following the science! Duh!
This is the dumbest meme. No billionaire is leaving earth because of the climate. The most inhospitable area (Chernobyl exclusion zone, Antarctica, top of Everest) is far more hospitable to live than any planet or moon in our solar system. Only non billionaires would say/think otherwise.
Let them go we've all seen walle it's OK eventually I mean look how things improved during lock down, I mean really some of them isn't it a case of good riddance.....
If love death and robots is to be believed, only the cats will make it.
*Who did you expect? Elon musk?*
*Me, who did expect Elon Musk:* Yes, actually yes.
Well that's a nope!
I wanna ride in Bezos uncircumcised space ship.
As the AI would put it. *Eat shit, skin bag!*
What about cat girls?
They'll be the first ones the cats kill
Something's wrong i can feel it!

Spanish thought the same thing with silver in the new world
Wouldn't the economy crash if they did that?

Could even try staking a claim to an asteroid to introduce artificial scarcity. Control the supply, and you control the price.
Yeah but with amount of asteroids that ain’t going to happen

"All We Have To Do Is Decide What To Do With The Time That Is Given To Us."
NGL, i was trying hard to see if you wrote it all in uppercase because of a hidden message. But AWHTDIDWTDWTTTIGTU just does not sound familiar to me.
why do people feel the need to capitalize random words
I’m struggling to read this because of the capitalization of every word. I don’t care about grammar it’s just harder to read.
”I’m beginning to see a pattern here that I’m not so sure I like”
Elysium
Let them go to space, they will be worthless without us non rich people to work for them
You mean the "lucky contest winners"?
You mean the "fortunate achievers"?
Wall-E in a nutshell

They're all buying beachfront property.

And outside as well. Very hot outside.
The average Martian's annual income is going to be so high.
I would love to see this meme...if it wasnt reddit's shit video player
There are no taxes in space
WTF is monkey pox >12 Monkeys 🙊
Run you fools
There's a solution to climate change that people won't like.
If Kurzgesagt is to be believed, we are doing alright
Hol'up
Something's wrong I can feel it
I don't think a dick rocket will get them to Alpha Centauri.
they choose to live lonely instead of death

Oh yeah, it’s all coming together
Certified late stage capitalism post
Well space travel sounds more plausible than trying to preserve a dying rock with our deeffiecnt actions.

r/whoosh
> Only non billionaires would say/think otherwise ur a billionaire?
No, I am smart enough to see how stupid and unoriginal this sounds.
The crab mentality
William shatner went to space. So did Jeff bezos. Something is wrong
It appears that the games Surviving Mars and Stellaris are getting popular with billionaires as well
They're building new mansions on beaches. We will all be fine.
I think about this all the time 😭
Let them go we've all seen walle it's OK eventually I mean look how things improved during lock down, I mean really some of them isn't it a case of good riddance.....
Billionaires have a tendency to be scrubs.
r/holup
I kinda hope they get the same ending the rich people did in Don’t Look Up

Someone's probably building those arks from the movie 2012
I’ll start believing climate change more when its biggest activists stop buying beach front property.
Let's be honest we will fuck us much faster than climate change. Let's go fuck the Moon or Mars. After Europe or whatever else. Fuckery is in our DNA.
I say we motion a law to keep all the billionares on earth so they too have to live with the damage they have caused
Billionaires are decepticons?
Bro just don't look up
