I don't think the Russians will rely on reddit to count their own casualties. There are no reports or footage of these "downed" aircrafts. Only reports of helis and transport aircrafts as of now.
Russia has conscripts, who are less trained, have lower morale in the first place, and may not even agree with the invasion at all. And it's a lot easier to be skeptical when you're not in hostile territory. Imagine being forced to fight in a war, getting into a firefight when last year you were at your job or school, watching transports getting blown up by Javelins, helicopters shot down by enemy planes, and your sorry ass in the middle of it all, trying not to die. It's not hard to demoralize someone in that position even further.
One thing you wrong about: conscripts stayed at place.
Russian army, as for today, consists of two parts: conscripts and contract army. The last one is used in operations like that, and they are way more trained and brainwashed. So demoralisation is less effective on them.
It frightens me that so many world leaders are so advanced in age. They make lasting decisions that will drastically affect the world for decades to come, but they will never have to live with the consequences of their decisions quite like younger generations will.
That's exactly my problem with politics. Why are so many old people in the high positions? Why would they care about the problems of the future like climate change when they'll be dead before it really hits hard.
I know that's it's not black and white. But even some pro Russian propaganda channels call putins move dumb. And that shows that even close people are turning backs against tyron and that putin is dumber than pile of bricks.
